After listening to Steel Panther’s latest opus, Balls Out, I feel like I need to take a long hot shower. Steel Panther’s latest edition of raunch and roll holds back no punches, and delivers 13 more tongue in cheek songs filled with sex and drug filled lyrics that will either make you laugh, or hurl, or both.
I don’t know what it is with Balls Out, but I didn’t find the songs as funny as Steel Panther’s debut Feel the Steel. In most of the songs, the jokes were only somewhat funny the first time around, but not so much after repeat listens. If you are a media darling, chances are you are included in Steel Panther’s lyrics. Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, George Clooney, and Tiger Woods all make Steel Panther’s hit list this time around.
Some songs seem derivative of other works…..the intro “In the Future” for Balls Out gives a strong nod towards the intro “In the Beginning” of Motley Crue’s Shout at the Devil album. “17 Girls In a Row” borrows a riff from Sammy Hagar’s “I Don’t Need Love”. It is a catchy tune, just not very original.
“If You Really Really Love Me” is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really the dumbest song I have heard in 2011. ( You will have to listen to the song, to understand this statement).
“Gold Digging Whore” is another super catchy rocker, which lyrics done in fine cheerleader fashion.
Steel Panther has crafted the biggest power ballad of 2011 with their real tear ( or something else) jerker, “Weenie Ride”.
If you are easily offended, you are definitely need to skip Balls Out. The music is great, and Michael Starr aka Ralph Saenz delivers some killer vocals that sound like they came right out of 1989. Satchel aka Russ Parrish has surprised me with his awesome riffs on Balls Out. The song lyrics on Balls Out are graphically explicit, crude, and particularly offensive to women.
You definitely won’t want to play this in the work place, or around children. Purchase at your own risk….you have been warned!

MARTYR is a pure Heavy Metal force from the Netherlands. During the five years that MARTYR was alive and kicking (1982-1987), the band released two albums that are considered cult in the Metal scene of today! ‘For The Universe’ (1985) and ‘Darkness At Time’s Edge’ (1986) are classic Metal, a delight for those who love strong melodies, speedy riffs and a high level of technicality.
In those years, MARTYR appeared on compilation albums from Roadrunner and Metal Blade, was voted Holland’s best new metal band in Aardschok magazine, has toured with several international acts and appeared on Sky Channel’s Monsters Of Rock.
MARTYR disbanded in 1987, but reunited in 2001 to play the Heavy Metal Maniacs festival. Four years later, the band revived almost the complete 1982 line up to play the Headbangers Open Air and Keep It True festival. The flame has been burning again and the band continued to play live ever since. December 2008 MARTYR supported US Shock Rockers Lizzy Borden on their European tour. But also in 2009 and 2010 MARTYR hit the European stages supporting great acts like Flotsam and Jetsam, Vicious Rumors, Jaguar, Evergrey a.o.
In 2009 the first new MARTYR record in almost 25 years has been released. That’s when the new EP ‘Fear’ was coupled with a re-release of the classic ‘For The Universe’ album as a double digipack entitled ‘Fear The Universe’ on Rusty Cage Records (RCR0017).
In 2010 and 2011 MARTYR re-entered the studio between the live shows, by working on the successor for ‘Fear’. A complete new album called ‘Circle Of 8′, which will be released by Metal Blade Records in November 2011 worldwide, will be a significant impulse in MARTYR‘s revival. And by signing with Metal Blade again, the clan is back home!
‘Circle Of 8′ contains 11 new tracks and one oldie and fans favourite, ‘Speed Of Samurai’, which has been re recorded.

If you like rockin’ guitar riffs, high-energy songs and performances, deadly drums of doom, and ear-shattering screams, we got your rock right here!” He also described the songs as “heavy, interesting, classic sounding, modern sounding, completely rock ‘n’ roll — just how we like it!”

56 Year old Michael Schenker has released a new solo CD, Temple of Rock. I had no expectations for this CD when I picked it up. I didn’t read any reviews or see any press about it. I picked it up solo because Schenker is a legendary guitarist who always delivers quality music. Temple of Rock continues that tradition with more killer fret work, and a band featuring some of the biggest veterans in hard rock, Pete Way, Herman Rarebell, and Michael Voss.
Michael Voss is the singer from Mad Max and Cassanova. I am not familiar with the music from those bands, so the voice of Voss is new to me. His voice definitely works well with the insane licks from Michael Schenker.
“Fallen Angel” almost has a hair metal like vibe to it, but Schenker’s riffs give it a heavy enough spin to made it stand out.
“The End of An Era” is a high-speed rocker that rocks on all counts. Michael Voss delivers a great vocal, and Schenker cranks out another great guitar solo!
I love the middle eastern influence in the Schenker’s riffs on “Miss Claustrophobia”. This song is one of the many highlights on Temple of Rock.
Doogie White handles the vocals on the song “Before the Devil Knows Your Dead”. You won’t want to miss this killer cut.
“Lover’s Sinfony” reunites Schenker with former MSG vocalist Robin McAuley. If there was ever a Yin to the Yang that is Michael Schenker, McAuley would be the one. His voice is the perfect match for Schenker’s stellar playing. I would love to see these two reunite for another MSG Album.
“Saturday Night” is the ultimate weekend anthem that get lots of airplay. This song is catchy as hell!
The CD is closed out with an extended version of “How Long” that features a guitar battle with Michael Schenker, Leslie West and Michael Amott. Very cool stuff indeed!
The Temple of Rock is a must own CD for all Michael Schenker fans. You won’t be disappointed! Check it out! You can pick it up at this link.

Greatest Hits collections can be a dime a dozen. All of the big hard rock acts have them, and bands like Poison, have several of them. What separates Judas Priest’s The Chosen Few from the rest? Judas Priest had some of the biggest names in rock select the songs for this 17 song compilation. The songs on this collection were picked out by Alice Cooper, Slash, David Coverdale, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Joe Elliott, Lemmy, Zakk Wylde and more. Not only will you find some of the biggest hits from Judas Priest, but you will also find deeper cuts like “Dissident Aggressor”, “Delivering The Goods” and “The Sentinel”. There are some tracks that got left out that I would have included. Tracks like “Freewheel Burning”, and “Electric Eye” are obviously missing, but the core of Judas Priest’s best tunes are all represented here.
If you are a casual fan of Judas Priest, and don’t own their entire catalog of music (like me), The Chosen Few offers fans a great collection of Judas Priest’s music. At less than a buck a song, The Chosen Few is definitely a greatest hits collection worth owning.
You can pick up a copy of The Chosen Few at this link.

Funds raised will pay a 60-student orchestra at Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio
Pledging begins: Thursday, November 3, 10AM EST
Kip Winger has kicked off a 45-day on-line fundraising drive to record an orchestral piece intended for ballet using Kickstarter, the crowdfunding platform website.
The $33,000 donation goal will be used to pay the Conservatory orchestra, conductor, and engineer to rehearse and record Conversations With Nijinsky, Winger’s follow-up to his composition Ghosts for Christopher Wheeldon at the San Francisco Ballet. Taking place over a two-day period in January 2012, the rehearsals and recording will also be shot for a future documentary film.
The work was inspired by the life and diary of famed Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky. Winger says: “I conceived the piece as the accompaniment to the unseen dances of Nijinsky, whose career was cut short by schizophrenia.”
Scott Yoo, one of the most buzzed about figures working in classical music today, will conduct the student orchestra. “I’m extremely excited to work with Scott Yoo, he is one of the best musicians in the world,” said Winger.
Rewards for supporters include thanks on the project’s website, Co-producer credit and the opportunity to visit Oberlin, meet the principals, and sit in on rehearsals and recording.
The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, located on the campus of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, was founded in 1865 and is the oldest continuously operating conservatory in the United States. The Conservatory is the only professional music school to be honored by President Obama with the National Medal of Arts, the highest award given by the United States.

RIOTGOD began in spirit through the conversations of Monster Magnet’s Bob Pantella and Jim Baglino while out on tour as early as 2006.
While touring with Monster Magnet provided them with some great times and afforded them the opportunity to perform around the world, each communicated a desire to express their own musical ideas.
During their time off the road, the pair began exploring the possibilities of creating their own band . Bob began to lay down some ideas to get the ball rolling come 2007.
Bob while recording ideas that would become many of the songs on RIOTGOD‘s first CD, also sought out musicians that would fill out the guitar and vocal slots for the then nameless band. Contacted first was Garrett Sweeny for guitar.
For the vocals, many possible names had been discussed, including some notable voices familiar via other established bands yet in the end the local NJ connection would lead to Mark Sunshine.
The band began to look for shows locally booking in NYC, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The venues would range from nationally familiar clubs such as Asbury Park’s Stone Pony to a gig in a Brooklyn loft.
Touring for the band would be another story. Each member still fulfilled their other musical obligations, most notably Jim and Bob being called out to tour with Monster Magnet, However challenging it may always be owing to scheduling — touring is a given.
RIOTGOD did its first mini-tour in 2009, hitting the road with fellow NJ rockers The Friends of Bill Wilson. RIOTGOD would visit the US mid-west and Canada, playing venues such as Chicago’s Double Door, Detroit’s Blondies, Toronto’s Bovine Sex Club as well as some lesser known colorful establishments along the way.
RIOTGOD is now back – with their second album. More straight, more rock, more stoner – more RIOTGOD.

In the world of hard rock music, there are several talented guitarists that could be considered the best of the best by almost anyone. Names that come to mind immediately include Yngwie Malsteen, Joe Satriani, Ted Nugent, and Eddie Van Halen, just to name a few. However, in the midst of all this greatness, there are some guitarists that slip under the radar and fail to get the recognition that they truly deserve. One such guitarist is Brian May.
When you hear a mention of the band Queen, the first thought that is probably conjured in the brain is of Freddie Mercury. Mercury was the flamboyant, incredible, amazing lead singer of Queen. He was one of the best band leaders in the history of rock. There are few that could compare to his showmanship, his style, and his voice. He was the face of Queen and when he passed away, the band went dark for many years. It’s easy to understand how Queen would be synonymous with Mercury. Yet, the brilliance of Freddie Mercury should not overshadow the fantastic work of Brian May on lead guitar. Have you ever really listened to Brian May play guitar on any Queen albums? From A Night At The Opera to Innuendo, the man was a guitar genius.
Brian May does not get the recognition that he deserves. Listen to the first two Queen albums and you can easily identify that before Freddie Mercury stepped up and took over the band, Brian May was the focal point of the music. The dark guitars and ripping solos reign on Queen and Queen II. Even after Queen became the Mercury show, May was still showcasing his amazing talents, as is obvious on the solos for songs such as “We Will Rock You,” “I’m In Love With My Car,” and “Flash.”
It’s easy to forget that Queen was actually May’s band. He started Queen from the ashes of Smile and it was Freddie Mercury who joined the band and pushed them in a new direction. Certainly, Queen would never have been as massive as they were without Freddie Mercury, but Queen would not be as grand without Brian May.
The later Queen albums give a deeper appreciation for his greatness. The solo on “Invisible Man” (from 1988’s The Miracle) is one of the best guitar solos I’ve ever heard on a record. The way that May is able to tap his fingers up and down and all around that guitar neck is unbelievable. He has shown other flashes of brilliance throughout Queen’s body of work as well. Songs like “Bicycle Race,” “Tie Your Mother Down,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” would never be the same without May’s signature guitar work finishing the brilliance on each of those songs.
In the world of guitarists, it’s easy to forget Brian May, especially since he and Queen are not in the limelight that often. However, May is up there with Jimi Hendrix and Edward Van Halen as one of the most talented guitarists to change the way we hear rock music. May’s experimental sound and style helped form the backbone of Queen and led to a new wave of intense show rock. When we stop and think of the greatest guitarists to ever play rock and roll, Brian May’s name has to be mentioned in the conversation. I can’t say exactly what number he would rank, but Brian May is definitely in the top ten. The world of rock music is better off for having had Brian May be a part of it.

Mick Jagger once said, “It’s all right letting yourself go, as long as you can get yourself back!” With THE LAST VEGAS, I went to The Other Side! A good thing never ends!”
Frontman Chad Cherry on working with Sybil Danning:
“Filming the Video with Sybil Danning in Chicago was wicked and another chapter in TLV mayhem. See you all on the Other Side!”
“The Other Side” was recorded and produced by Grammy nominated Johnny K (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Airbourne) at Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, IL along with a full album’s worth of material. While the band puts some finishing touches on the full-length and prepares it for release sometime in 2012, fans should stay tuned for news on where they can get a copy of the new “The Other Side” EP in the very near future.
THE LAST VEGAS’ previous full-length, “Whatever Gets You Off” was one of iTunes Top 15 Rock Albums of the Year (2009) alongside Pearl Jam, The Dead Weather, Them Crooked Vultures and The Black Crowes. The debut single, “I’m Bad”, hit over 300 thousand downloads on iTunes in the first week and was named iTunes Rock Single of the Year.

QUEEN’S ROGER TAYLOR TO ANNOUNCE SEMI-FINALISTS FOR
“THE QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA” TOUR NOVEMBER 9
NATIONWIDE TALENT SEARCH HEATS UP WITH ONE WEEK TO GO
OPEN AUDITIONS END NOVEMBER 7
SEMI-FINALIST ANNOUNCED NOVEMBER 9
PUBLIC VOTING BEGINS NOVEMBER 14
Six weeks ago, Queen drummer Roger Taylor announced the launch of a North American talent search looking for top-tier players to star in “The Queen Extravaganza” tour, an electrifying road show that will celebrate the band’s music and legacy. A plethora of vocalists, guitarists, drummers, bassists and keyboard players auditioned online at queenextravaganza.com, submitting video footage of themselves performing one of four classic Queen songs: “Killer Queen,” “Somebody To Love,” “Seven Seas of Rhye” and “I Want To Break Free.” With one week of open auditions remaining, Taylor continues to pour through the submissions and is preparing for the November 9th announcement of the lucky semi-finalists.
“What an amazing storehouse of talent we have unlocked,” said Taylor. “The standard is mind blowingly high, it’s really a thrill getting to discover some of them, keep them coming!”
The buzz surrounding “The Queen Extravaganza” tour has sparked worldwide interest with video submissions generating more than 6.4 million views to date. Television host Ellen DeGeneres was so impressed with the level of talent, that she invited one hopeful to perform his audition on her show. The contestant, Nashville’s Marc Martel, went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 3rd and gave a stunning rendition of Queen’s “Somebody To Love.” Fans around the country felt the same way, awarding Martel the MTV O Award last night for Best Fan Cover. His performance from The Ellen DeGeneres Show can be viewed here: http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2011/10/marc_martel_performs_somebody_to_love_1003.php
Unlike Round One, in which vocalists and musicians were allowed to audition by performing one of four Queen songs, Round Two will see each semi-finalist assigned a specific track.
* Vocalists must submit a video of themselves performing “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
* Drummers must perform “One Vision.”
* Guitarists must play “Keep Yourself Alive.”
* Bassists must audition to “Another One Bites The Dust.”
* Keyboardists must perform “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
The semi-finalists will have between November 9 and 13 to submit their auditions. In another twist, Round Two auditions will be judged by the public. Between November 14th and 28th, fans can vote for their favorites at www.queenextravaganza.com , casting one vote per category. The top vote-getters will advance to the Final Round.
Those finalists will be flown into Los Angeles in early December, where they will perform live for Taylor and a panel of judges. More information on the final auditions to be announced shortly.
Launching in 2012, “The Queen Extravaganza” tour will feature three vocalists and a five-piece band and will be booked by powerhouse agency CAA. Taylor is fully hands-on, taking the role of producer and music director.
A small sampling from the many standout auditions submitted thus far:
Marc Martel (Nashville, TN)
Tristan Avakian (Toronto, ON)
Andrew Walls (Champlin, MN)
Austin Burcham (Los Angeles, CA)
David Yuter (Carlsbad, CA)

Reckless Love have recently released their new disc, Animal Attraction. I can gladly say that these Finnish rockers have not hit the dreaded sophomore slump with album #2. If you are a fan of 80’s style hard rock and pop metal, you are going to love the new set of tunes on Animal Attraction!
If you picked up the band’s debut, you will be glad to know that the band’s hair metal meets melodic rock sound is well in tact. On Animal Attraction you are going to find a bunch of catchy anthems, with big sing along choruses. It is almost as if Reckless Love stepped right out of 1989, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
While I do like this album a lot, I wouldn’t go so far as comparing Animal Attraction to some of my favorite albums from back in the day. The album isn’t perfect by any means. There are two or three songs that didn’t really work for me. Even the worst songs on Animal Attraction are better than a lot of the stuff I hear on FM rock radio today. You won’t find any lame down tuned guitars on this CD. The tunes are cram packed with lots of rockin’ guitar riffs, and keyboards, and Olli Herman’s cool vocals and high-pitched screams.
The songs remind of a blend of Def Leppard, Shotgun Messiah and Valentine (remember them?). The songs take me back to an era when music was a lot more fun, and not so serious. Some of favorites on this CD included the songs “Speedin”,”Born To Break Your Heart” “Switchblade Babe” and “On the Radio”. (You can check out the songs “Animal Attraction” and “Hot” in the clips below.)
Is Animal Attraction one of the best CD’s I have heard in 2011? No, it isn’t, but it is a whole lot of fun, and I certainly enjoyed it. I recommend picking it up! You can purchase a copy at this link.

From the Times Tribune:
Motley Crue singer Vince Neil will plead guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, pay a $1,000 fine and avoid trial on allegations that he poked his ex-girlfriend in a confrontation last March at a Las Vegas resort lounge, his lawyer said Monday.
A more serious misdemeanor charge of battery constituting domestic violence will be dropped against Neil when the 50-year-old rocker enters his plea next Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court, defense attorney David Chesnoff. He said the allegation of physical contact would be dismissed.
“Mr. Neil is sorry he raised his voice,” Chesnoff said.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal first reported Monday that Clark County District Attorney David Roger also confirmed the agreement.
Roger did not immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press.
Neil, who lives in Las Vegas, could have faced up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted on each charge.
He was accused of poking the chest of Las Vegas entertainment reporter Alicia Jacobs in a casino comedy club March 24, and of cursing and pointing at Jacobs and two friends sitting with her.
Jacobs told the AP she was glad Neil was taking responsibility for his actions.
“I’m glad the story is over and the book is closed,” she said.
Jacobs had told police she received a bruise from the finger-poke, which she said came just weeks she and Neil ended a seven-month relationship. Jacobs has previously given her age to reporters and police as 39 and 45. She declined Monday to correct her age.
The two other people named as victims in the confrontation, Wayne Newton’s sister-in-law and publicist Patricia McCrone, 41, and Las Vegas Sun entertainment columnist John Katsilometes, 45, said they were glad the case was being resolved.
Neil is the front man for a four-member heavy metal band known for bad behavior, hard partying, famous girlfriends and hard-driving hits from the late 1980s like “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Dr. Feelgood.”
He also owns tattoo shops and two bars in Las Vegas, including one at the Las Vegas Hilton where the Shimmer Cabaret comedy club confrontation took place.
Neil served 10 days in the Clark County jail in February for driving drunk in his black Lamborghini in June 2010 near the Las Vegas Strip. He also was fined $585 and ordered to serve 15 days on house arrest as part of a plea deal that avoided trial in that case.
Tyketto is in the studio working on their next album titled Dig in Deep. The band has created a new video channel on Youtube where they will be posting regular video updates during the recording process.

German rockers The New Black released their sophomore effort, Better in Black last January without much fanfare. I dig these guys, and I think you will to. Their videos “The King I Was” and “Ballad of Broken Angels are definitely worth another look. Check ’em out!
Fancy on melodic Power Metal from the United States? Then you will be fan of WIDOW! Founded in 2000 in North Carolina, the band has released three albums: “Midnight Strikes” (2003), “On Fire” (2005) and “Nightlife” (2007). Their new work “Life’s Blood” is the first WIDOW album, which will be released through Pure Steel Records.
Pure Steel Records and WIDOW have just unveiled a special promotional trailer for the new album. Check it out HERE
On the twelve tracks you’ll get a great mixture of fresh heaviness and enthralling melodies. The inclined listener will hit more than a smell of NWoBHM, of course together with some well-known North American Bands, but never forgetting the European origins. Sometimes the guys pound through sublime mid-tempo areas (“Embrace It” and “Behind The Light”), a bit faster they get by twin-guitar-orgies such as “Take Hold Of The Night”, “The Burning Ones” or the last song “The One I Know”. Of course they also offer some calm parts, with the songs “Another Fallen Angel” and “In Dreams”. The production is powerful yet traditional , so you can expect a bold sound, without faceless sterile prodcution.
The clear, very outstanding vocals, which are sometimes a bit emotional too, fits perfect to the majestic twin-guitar-leads, so no follower of this genre will be disappointed! In short: WIDOW is North American Power Metal.

RISE AGAINST has now released the official video for their new single “Satellite,” from their most recent album, Endgame. The video, which was directed by Marc Klasfeld (Foo Fighters, Against Me!, Katy Perry), is dedicated to the loyal fans that have stuck by Rise Against throughout their entire career. The band talked about the idea and inspiration behind the video saying:
“We finished our new video for the song “Satellite” and can’t wait to share with you because, well, it’s about you, our incredible fans! As soon as we started playing this song live this year, it was amazing to see the audience react, come alive, and go nuts. So we thought that this video should be just that, pure and simple. We couldn’t film every single one of you, but we brought a camera crew with us to try to capture a few shows on our last tour. (Thanks for not killing our camera guy in the pit). The video will premiere exclusively at the Rise Against facebook. Thanks to everyone who participated, you rule.”

I am not sure how to classify the Finnish Rock back Leningrad Cowboys. What I can say is, their music is refreshingly different. Check out their new clip, “All We Need is Love” below!
Once known from Aki Kaurismäki’s movies as “the ultimate cult band”, the band’s worldwide respected for their unique live shows. During their 20 plus years, they have performed more than 1000 shows in more than 60 countries. They have produced massive joint concerts with the Red Army Choir, confused audiences at the MTV Music Awards and performed with classical orchestras and played in hundreds of festivals and clubs.
The group has signed an exclusive recording deal with SPV/SPV Recordings, for the World excluding Finland.
Their new studio album “Buena Vodka Social Club” will be released in January 2012 on Lim. Ed. CD, Super Jewel Case and 180g Vinyl LP.
The new album shows a band at the height of their powers and this is their first studio album with original songs since 2000. “Buena Vodka Social Club” is not an ordinary album in any way.
