Following the release of their acclaimed second album ‘III’, the hottest rock’n’roll band in the world, Chickenfoot, are gearing up to perform two “Road Test” concerts in the UK next week.
As part of a short five-date European tour, Chickenfoot plays Manchester Academy (Sold Out) on Thursday January 12th, followed by London’s O2 Academy Brixton on Saturday January 14th. The Road Test concerts mark the second time Chickenfoot will perform in the UK. Alongside tracks from the eponymous debut album, Chickenfoot will perform songs from ‘III’ for the first time outside of America.
Featuring guitar hero Joe Satriani and ex-Van Halen members bassist Michael Anthony and frontman Sammy Hagar, Chickenfoot’s original drummer, Chad Smith, has temporarily handed his sticks over to the legendary Kenny Aronoff, who will join the band for the European dates. Finally….the official press release from the band:
After years of rumors and teases, iconic high-kicking rockers Van Halen are officially all the way back. Following an intimate club show in New York on Thursday night at Café Wha?, the group revealed that they will hit the road for a 45-date tour beginning February 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The first show will take place less than two weeks after the release of A Different Kind of Truth, VH’s first album of new material with original singer David Lee Roth since 1984. The first single and video from the disc by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act, “Tattoo,” are slated to drop on Tuesday.
The tour will feature support from legendary R&B act Kool & the Gang on select dates, with tickets going on sale on January 14. According to a press release, fans can expect to hear some new songs on the tour alongside some of the band’s most beloved tunes, including “Eruption,” “Running With the Devil,” the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me,” “Everybody Wants Some,” “Jump” and “Hot for Teacher.”
In late December, Van Halen confirmed the reunion tour and album with 57-year-old Roth via a video released on the band’s official site.
Van Halen’s original bass player and backing vocalist, Michael Anthony, was booted from the band in 2006 after 32 years and replaced by guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s teenage son, Wolfgang. After parting ways with Roth in 1985, Van Halen rebooted with singer Sammy Hagar in 1985, enjoying a string of hit albums and songs through 1996, when Hagar was shown the door and briefly replaced by former Extreme singer Gary Cherone, who only lasted three years in the slot. After bringing Hagar back in from 2003 to 2005, Van Halen invited Roth back into the fold several years ago and toured with him in 2007 and 2008.

How We End Up Alone,” the long awaited first single from HURT’s sixth studio album, ‘The Crux,’ is available everywhere today. Produced by HURT, engineered by HURT’s Michael Roberts and mixed by John Kurzweg (Puddle Of Mud, GodSmack), “How We End Up Alone” embodies the introspective lyrics written by J. Loren, Hurt’s singer and founder. Loren, who is known for running a sonic scale that includes a soaring chorus to ‘pin-drop’ whispers resulting in nothing short of anthemic. “How We End Up Alone.” which is already garnering rave reviews from the faithful like “Simply Amazing” and “The wait has been worth it,” will prove to be the culmination of years of road work and the mastering of one’s talents through artistic will and perseverance. Click here to listen and here to purchase.
The release of “How We End Up Alone” and ‘The Crux’ marks a milestone for Loren (vocals/guitar/violin), Michael Roberts (guitar), Rek Mohr (bass) and Victor Ribas (drums) in not only the release of the band’s sixth studio album but also in signing to a new label, Dallas, TX- based Carved Records. Tim Porter, CEO of Carved Records, says; “HURT stepped up and delivered an unparalleled musical experience with ‘The Crux’ and I have no doubt that their years of work in perfecting there art will culminate in the release of their biggest album to date. ‘The Crux’ is going to take HURT to another level!”
J. Loren goes on to describe the motivation behind the album and first single; “The inspiration is the conceptual exploration of the human condition in our eternally doomed struggle for us as creatures to understand ourselves. Fans of our older works will be pleasantly rewarded to hear a return to the sound that they know and love. We took our time and made this right. It is most different in the way that it is closest to the mark of a flawed perfection that is so very hard to achieve. And we did it while capturing more of our natural passion than ever before.”
HURT has been warming up selections from ‘The Crux’ this past fall along with re-imagining their repertoire on the road for their ‘ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE’ tour. “This is the other side of what we do and why we love doing it,” explains J. Loren. Instead of cranking up the electric guitars, the hard-rocking group pulled out their acoustic guitars, banjo, added a cellist and showcased J. Loren on his signature instrument, the violin for these shows as a way to reconnect with their fans and their music as well as introducing the new songs to the folks who matter most…the fans. The result was something both new and familiar. The ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE’s 2-hour-plus shows will continue in late January 2012 TBA and will reveal the many layers of their new and old songs as the band gears up for the release of ‘The Crux.’
ABOUT THE BAND: HURT was formed in 2000 and to date has sold over a quarter million albums and has generated over 150,000 plays at Active Rock, Rock and Alternative radio over several singles. Hurt first released two independent albums Hurt in 2000 and The Consumation in 2003 and many of the songs from these two albums found their way onto their first two major label releases. The band received critical success with their major label debut album, Vol. 1, released on March 21, 2006 and featured the hit singles “Rapture” and “Falls Apart.” Their second album was the critically acclaimed Vol. II, released on September 25, 2007, and they gained their biggest rock hit with the single “Ten Ton Brick.” HURT released their fifth studio album on April 7, 2009, titled Goodbye to the Machine which featured the hit “Wars.” ‘The Crux’ will be the band’s 6th studio album and will be available for sale worldwide on March 27, 2012.
Roadrunner Records is delighted to welcome multi-platinum rock band SHINEDOWN to the family, for all territories excluding the USA (where they remain with Atlantic). In addition, Roadrunner and SHINEDOWN are excited to announce the much anticipated release of their new album, titled “AMARYLLIS”. “AMARYLLIS” will arrive in stores and at all digital retailers on March 26, 2012.
The first chance for fans to hear the “AMARYLLIS” recordings will be the eagerly awaited new single, “Bully” – coming to radio soon and available to buy from 22 January! The track is Shinedown’s first new music since seeing all six singles from 2008’s “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” go to #1 on the US rock radio chart.
SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith comments, “I’ve always seen Shinedown as its own entity – this living thing that’s been growing and developing and evolving over the past 10 years. During the recording, the vision of what Shinedown is and where it’s going became completely clear. ‘AMARYLLIS’ is the manifestation of that vision, the centerpiece of what Shinedown is. It reflects on everything we’ve done and where we’re heading. It’s a message of empowerment, perseverance, and inspiration that I think speaks to fans that have been with us since the beginning as well as those who are just learning about who we are and what we’re about. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
Recorded at Cavallo’s Lightning Sound studios outside of Los Angeles and a pair of Hollywood landmarks, Ocean Way Recording and Capitol Studios, “AMARYLLIS” sees SHINEDOWN joining forces once more with multiple Grammy Award-winning producer Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), who previously collaborated with the band on 2008’s record-breaking “THE SOUND OF MADNESS.” That album proved Shinedown’s mainstream breakthrough, debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200 before spending 120 consecutive weeks on the chart.
Shinedown supported “THE SOUND OF MADNESS” with a wide range of live TV appearances, including performances on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Today Show, CBS’ The Early Show, and the 2010 NHL Awards show. In 2009, the band received an American Music Award nomination for “Best Alternative Rock Band.”

THE DOORS TO DEBUT NEWLY DISCOVERED SONG “SHE SMELLS SO NICE” MONDAY, JANUARY 9 VIA THE GROUP’S FACEBOOK PAGE
“THE YEAR OF THE DOORS” UNDERWAY WITH 40TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OF ICONIC L.A. WOMAN ALBUM
AND NEW DVD/BLU-RAY “MR. MOJO RISIN’: THE STORY OF L.A. WOMAN” JANUARY 24, 2012 VIA RHINO AND EAGLE ROCK ENTERTAINMENT DVD TO BE SCREENED FRIDAY, JANUARY 20 AT THE EGYPTIAN THEATRE IN HOLLYWOOD WITH ELEKTRA RECORDS’ JAC HOLZMAN, ROCK RADIO DJ JIM LADD AND SPECIAL SURPRISE GUESTS
“THE YEAR OF THE DOORS” officially kicks off on Monday, January 9 at noon Eastern when the iconic rock band will officially debut the first new, completely unreleased song in 40 years, “SHE SMELLS SO NICE.” The bluesy track captures the band–organist RAY MANZAREK, guitarist ROBBY KRIEGER, drummer JOHN DENSMORE and late singer JIM MORRISON–joyfully barreling through the full-throttle original. Bruce Botnick, the album’s co-producer with the band, recently made the discovery while reviewing the L.A. WOMAN session tapes. The song will premiere on the band’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/thedoors) on Monday and will then be serviced to radio the following day.
The group’s final album–1971’s L.A. WOMAN, with the signature hits “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm”–is being celebrated with a special 40th anniversary two-CD release from Rhino and a behind-the-scenes DVD/Blu-ray from Eagle Rock Entertainment.
In addition to “She Smells So Nice,” the second disc of the L.A. WOMAN reissue includes eight never-before-heard versions of songs from the album. Alternate takes of “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm” offer a fresh view on this landmark album, which was the group’s sixth straight Top 10. The studio chatter between the songs is a revelation, transporting listeners to The Doors Workshop: the West Hollywood rehearsal space where they recorded the album with Botnick. One segment in particular captures a fascinating moment of inspiration when Morrison suggests they add the now-iconic thunderstorm sound effects to the beginning of “Riders On The Storm.”

Legacy Recordings is proud to announce the domestic release of two essential new titles from the seminal metal band Scorpions: Comeblack, a new album of classic rock covers and fresh performances of signature repertoire recorded earlier this year, and Get Your Sting and Blackout – Live in 3D, available on Blu-ray disc, an 11-camera 3-D concert film recorded in Saarbrucken, Germany on April 15, 2011 during Scorpions current farewell tour.
Launched by guitarist Rudolf Schenker in 1965, Scorpions forged metal, rock and pop into a sound that’s come to signify an entire genre through hard rock anthems like “Rock You Like A Hurricane” and hits like “Send Me An Angel,” “Wind of Change” and “Still Loving You,” selling more than 100 million records in the process.
Last year, Scorpions announced that the group’s Get Your Sting and Blackout tour, an epic ongoing worldwide rock ‘n’ roll odyssey in support of 2010’s Sting in the Tail, would be the group’s last before retirement. The tour is slated to run through 2012 with a string of historic farewell blowouts and festival performances scheduled Europe culminating with shows at the Wacken Open Air festival (August 4, 2012) and Munich’s Olympiahalle (October 13, 2012).
Wanting to create a truly memorable concert film to do justice to power of the live show and the high energy emotional impact of the final tour, Scorpions chronicled the sold-out concert on April 15, 2011 in Saarbrucken, Germany with a state-of-the-art 3D production. Helmed by director Gerd F. Schultze (who’s worked on 3D films with Michael Jackson, Bryan Adams, Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana and German superstar Peter Maffay), Get Your Sting and Blackout – Live in 3D puts the viewer into the VIP box at the ultimate Scorpions concert.

When The Smoke Is Going DownAt some point during the Get Your Sting and Blackout tour (“We can’t remember the day, the month or the hour”), Scorpions, enjoying the success of Sting in the Tail and the emotional rejuvenation of the farewell tour (“Screaming fans everywhere we went!”) decided to record one last classic album. “The idea to go back to the studio was born out of pure excitement,” said the band who cut an album mixing covers of rock ‘n’ roll standards that informed and inspired the Scorpions alongside new productions and performances of the songs in the band’s core catalog that have proved the most meaningful to the members. The result, Comeblack, is, according to the band, “an encore for our die-hard fans, to thank them for all the support for so many years. At the same time, this is a tribute to legendary bands from the sixties, like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, who have inspired us to follow our dreams. We hope you like it as much as we do… Rock on and … Comeblack.”

11. Wasted In Berlin (feat. Fast Eddie Clarke)
A video for the song “At Least I’m Drunk“ was recently completed and will make its online debut later this month. A teaser for the video can be seen HERE.
No more endless studio fakes, sound samples, artificial drum overdubs and computer-controlled corrections of suboptimal lead vocals. The time has come to return to the true values of rock music, namely honesty, solid craftsmanship and real lifeblood. To cut a long story short: the time has come for NITROGODS! The motto of this spectacular new rock trio: three men, three corners, and down-to-earth no-bullshit rock’n’roll!
The band may still be unfamiliar to the public at large, but the three members are renowned musicians with illustrious histories to look back on. Guitarist Henny Wolter founded THUNDERHEAD in 1988, played with PRIMAL FEAR and SINNER for number of years and was part of the Rock Meets Classic touring band. Drummer KlausSperling (FREEDOM CALL) was also with PRIMAL FEAR for a long time. And at the epicenter of the NITROGODS soundquake is a heavyweight who is impressive in every respect: Claus “Oimel” Larcher, a bear of a musician whose bass performance stands for sheer power and whose voice unmistakably reflects countless liters of beer and whiskey.
“I wanted to return to playing the music that I love,” says Henny Wolter, “and that only works if you play it with your best friends.”
Fast Eddie Clarke comments on his collaboration with the NITROGODS: “I first met Claus from the NITROGODS in 2005 when I did a benefit gig for the victims of the tsunami in Indonesia. So I was happy to say yes when asked to do a solo on their new album on the track ‘Wasted In Berlin’. I have to say the tracks they sent me sounded great. The band has great spirit and they all play extremely well together. So if you like fast and furious rock, you should give this a listen. I can assure you you will not be dissapointed…”
Dan McCafferty on NITROGODS: “I have just had the pleasure to record a song with a new band called NITROGODS. Henny and I met and became good friends on the Rock Meets Classic tour 2010. Having heard other material for the album, I think it will be a fine one. Hope you enjoy my contribution on ‘Whiskey Wonderland’. I wish the GODS the best of luck. Welcome to the rock ‘n’ roll world!”

The Scorpions have returned with Comeblack, their last studio album before the band retires. Comeblack is one half re-recorded originals, and one half cover tunes.
How does it stack up? Comeblack shows you just how good the Scorpions original songs are. The versions on Comeblack are not quite as aggressive as the originals. Klaus doesn’t push his voice as much as he did on the original tunes. I have found that the songs are slightly different. The tempo may be a little different on some of the songs. I have heard the original versions of these tunes hundreds of times, so some of the nuances stand out to me quite a bit. To the average fan, they may not notice much of a difference, if any. The cool thing is…all of the songs still work. I prefer the original versions of the songs, but the versions on Comeblack are still very good.
I have never been a big fan of cover song CD’s, but I have to admit the cover songs on this CD, are really good. My favorites of six covers are “Tainted Love”, “All Day and All of the Night” and “Ruby Tuesday”. All of the cover songs are very good. I am convinced that Klaus Meine could sing anything, and make it sound good. To my ears, “Tainted Love” and “All Day and All of the Night” are easily as good, if not better than the originals versions.
Is Comeblack worth picking up? If you are a fan of the Scorpions, you should definitely get this. It is the last studio album the band will ever do. The cover songs are pretty good, and are definitely worth adding to your collection.
My only wish is that someone could talk the Scorpions out of their retirement talk. Comeblack shows me that the band still has plenty of fuel in the tank.

That Metal Show guest-shredder alum Tracii Guns returns to set, this time to take a seat and tell the origin story of G N’ R and speak candidly about the current lineups of L.A. Guns. Then Michael Monroe discusses his latest solo album. Check it out here!
Shinedown has released a lyric video for their song “Bully”. I thought their last album The Sound of Madness was brilliant, and this song gives me high hopes for another strong effort from the Shinedown camp. This song is now available for purchase through iTunes!
I received an email from this Swedish quartet, Love Handles. I thought this was a strange name for a band, but their new video “Save Your Soul” flat-out rocks! Check it out!

Later this month (January 20th in Europe, January 24th in the U.S.), Heavy Metal band Primal Fear will be releasing their 9th studio album, Unbreakable. If you are a metal head, you need to mark this date on your calendar, as Primal Fear has crafted a metal album that no fan should be without.
Unbreakable is packed with great vocals, blazing guitar solos, thundering drums and crank-worthy metal anthems that will blow your mind.
The album starts off with a majestic intro Unbreakable (part 1) that doesn’t come close to preparing you for the next eleven tunes that will fill your head with metal happiness.
“Strike” is a fist-pumping, heavy metal anthem that ought to be a staple in Primal Fear’s live set. What a great tune!
Chances are you may have heard the first single “Bad Guys Wear Black” (see video below). While this is a great tune, it isn’t the best song on Unbreakable. To my ears, the best song is the powerful number “Where Angels Die”. This is an eight minute tune that is arranged with amazing guitar work, excellent keyboards, and the powerful vocals that Ralf Scheepers is known for. This is an amazing tune that needs to be played multiple times to be fully appreciated.
I thought “Metal Nation” would be another blazing rocker in the vein of Primal Fear’s song “Metal is Forever”. Much to my surprise, this is a mid tempo rocker, but another great tune, and a radio worthy rocker at that.
When many people thought heavy metal was deal, Primal Fear continued to fly the Metal flag, and have been doing so for over a decade. The band seems to get better with each album it releases, and Unbreakable is no exception. If Primal Fear’s Unbreakable is a reflection for all of the music that will be released in 2012, this will be a great year for hard rock & metal. It may be too early in 2012 to tell, but I would be surprised if Unbreakable didn’t make a lot of Top 10 lists at the end of the year. Don’t miss this!
