This year’s Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth has been cancelled. The festival has released the following statement:
It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.
Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.
We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfill what we set out to do.
Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.

At a press conference at the Grove mall in Los Angeles, just around the corner from the American Idol studio, the members of Aerosmith (minus guitarist Brad Whitford) bravely stepped into the sunshine and proved that they don’t melt in daylight. After being introduced by Jimmy Kimmel – “Aerosmith are literally walking this way” – the band confirmed that their Global Warming tourwill kick off on June 16th in Minneapolis; it’s currently scheduled through August 8th, with Cheap Trick rocking the opening slot.
FEAR FACTORY today reveals cover and package details for their forthcoming new album, The Industrialist. Set for North American release on June 5, The Industrialist is a conceptual record based around a story written by vocalist Burton C. Bell. Lyrics to the album’s ten songs divulge the narrative as discussed recently by Bell with Decibel Magazine. The album’s artwork was created by American designer Anthony Clarkson with additional direction from the band. The album will be available on three formats – standard CD, a limited edition deluxe digi-book (featuring two additional songs), and 180-gram double vinyl.
Bell notes, “the protagonist (The Industrialist) is the incarnation of all industries in the form of an automaton. The mechanical, technological, and scientific advances through the industrial age led to the creation of The Industrialist. In the story, the automaton becomes sentient as it collects memories with each passing day. Through observation and learning, it gains the will to exist. What was meant to help man, will eventually be man’s demise.”
The Industrialist again pairs FEAR FACTORY with producer Rhys Fulber. Mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost/Skinny Puppy), with additional tracking by Logan Mader (Gojira/Divine Heresy), the album is the second written by Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares since reuniting in 2009 after a seven year split. Cazares says, “collaborating with Burton again on the new album was like magic. Everything just fell into place naturally. It felt good to recapture the true sound of FEAR FACTORY, taking it back to where it all started while raising it to new levels.” Regarding Fulber Cazares notes, “Rhys has been our secret member,” shares Cazares. “He is the one producer who has been able to understand what we have been trying to accomplish from the beginning and has opened our eyes to new things without sacrificing our original sound. His production and keyboard talents has made FEAR FACTORY stand out amongst the many bands of our genre.”
The Industrialist follows the 2010 release of Mechanize. Widely regarded, the album was the first release from FEAR FACTORY in six years. Mechanize debuted on Billboard’s Top 100 album chart week of release and topped CMJ’s Loud Rock radio chart as programmers embraced the band’s triumphant return. Sirus XM and Headbangers Ball’s host Jose Mangin noted, “after Mechanize dominated 2010 as Liquid Metal’s Album Of The Year, North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of new FEAR FACTORY. I have no doubt that FEAR FACTORY are going to kick our collective asses in 2012.”

SMILE EMPTY SOUL have revealed the album cover and track list from their upcoming release “3’s” due out May 22nd. “I think we put more thought into this album cover than ever before. There’s a ton of symbolism going on, and the whole package this time really means a lot to us,” says guitarst and lead singer Sean Danielson.
This spring SMILE EMPTY SOUL will hit the road in support of their brand new release, presented by Jägermeister. Jägermeister, the #1 selling imported liqueur in the United States, has a long history of supporting bands, both from a local level to national amphitheater acts. The brand has spent almost two decades developing artists and has seen many go from obscurity to the top of their fields. “We’re thrilled to be working with SMILE EMPTY SOUL again, a band that appreciates our brand and knows how to enjoy it! They’ve grown as a band and Jager’s been with them from the beginning,” says Rick Zeiler, Director of Strategic Marketing at Sidney Frank Importing Company, Inc.

6. Let Go
9. Greatest Hits and Medleys

The band recently signed a brand new world wide deal with eOne Music. “We are very excited to be working with eOne on this record. They’re a label that truly backs their artists, and that’s exactly what we need.” says Danielsen. This new effort will be a followup effort to “More Anxiety” which was released in 2010. Danielsen continues, “‘3’s’ is the best record we’ve made. It’s more musical and mature, yet still has the ‘Smile’ sound that our fans are looking for.”
“3’s” was recorded in the band’s native Southern California, at a handful of studios in the Valley and North Hollywood. Producer Eddie Wohl, who worked with the band on “Consciousness”, also manned the board on the new album at his Babyland Studios. The level of comfort with Wohl helped make “3’s” the consistent, tightly constructed album that it is. “He gets us and our sound,” Danielsen said.
Formed in 1998, SMILE EMPTY SOUL has certainly seen the inside of the music business. With a top 10 hit single like “Bottom of a Bottle,” countless tours and a certified gold record under their belt the band shows no signs of stopping now.

SLASH, the iconic, Grammy-winning rock guitarist and songwriter, is releasing a special video and song to raise awareness for the plight of homeless youth in Los Angeles. Fans can make a donation to the Los Angeles Youth Network (LAYN) by downloading the song–a special mix of “Gotten,” with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 on vocals, from SLASH’s previous 2010 debut solo album.
A comprehensive nonprofit organization, LAYN provides for more than 10,000 runaway and homeless youth on the streets of Los Angeles every night, with emergency shelter and group homes for those 12-17 years old and long term transitional housing for young adults 18-24. The goal is to keep these often neglected, abused and homeless youth off the street and provide them with the basic necessities of life such as safety, food, shelter, counseling and supportive services.
To watch, donate and download “Gotten,” click here: slashonline.com/gotten.
To donate directly to the Los Angeles Youth Network:
Shot in downtown LA, the star-studded cast for “Gotten” features SLASH as himself, as well as Amanda “AJ” Milchalka (“Hellcats,” Super 8), Kristin Bauer (“True Blood”), Clifton Collins Jr. (Traffic, Capote), Jacob Vargas (Next Friday, Traffic), Sevier Crespo (Fast Lane) and Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), among others.
Check out the behind-the-scenes making of the video here: slashonline.com/gotten.
“This video was created to make people take notice of the homeless teen epidemic which is rampant in L.A. as well as in the rest of the country,” explains SLASH. “The story in this video is just one scenario amid millions of potential situations happening at any given time in Los Angeles alone. Everybody involved with the making of this video selflessly donated their time and talents to this cause. I thank them with all my heart.”
“LAYN is extremely grateful to SLASH, Astound Studios, GenAudio and the entire creative force that has come together to support the programs and services of LAYN for homeless and runaway youth often missed by so many systems and who have such limited options for support,” explains Mark Supper Executive Director of the Los Angeles Youth Network. “Your donation helps us prevent the potential harm these youth are vulnerable and at risk for, and assists us in keeping them from being exploited or victimized on the streets of Los Angeles.”
“Gotten” was remixed at Astound Studios (www.astoundstudios.net) from its original version using GenAudio’s unique 3D spatial audio technology, AstoundSound®, which is based on over two decades of R&D into how the brain processes audio information. AstoundSound delivers a deeper and significantly enhanced artist-fan connection that stimulates a powerful artist-fan connection triggering a more intensive emotional response. “The team at Astound Studios and GenAudio were very excited to work on this with SLASH and his people,” said Jerry Mahabub, CEO of GenAudio and Owner of Astound Studios. “SLASH is a visionary, an idol to many, and a friend to me. It was both an honor and a pleasure to work on this project for the benefit of homeless youth that need all of our help.”
