Charm City Devils – Columbus, Ohio – 4/22/12 – Concert Review

Baltimore rockers Charm City Devils invaded The Basement in Columbus, Ohio Sunday night. I wish I could tell you the band played to a packed house on this chilly Sunday evening, but unfortunately, they did not. This little promoted show had a small turn out, but to the guys in Charm City Devils rocked out as if there were 1,000 people in the building.

Singer John Allen mentioned to me prior to the show that he was getting over a bout with laryngitis. You would have never known this, as his vocals were stronger than ever.  The band performed several songs off of their debut record Lets Rock-N-Roll and their recently released CD Sins.  It was awesome to hear the new songs from Sins played live.  The band played their new cover, and hit single “Man of Constant Sorrow”, “Love & War”,  “Devil Is A Woman”, and “Unstoppable”. I thought their cover of The Black Keys tune “I Got Mine” was pretty cool too.

It  has been nearly three years since I have last seen Charm City Devils play.  The first and only time I seen them prior to this show was at Cruefest in 2009.  I loved their brief set opening for Motley Crue back then, but they were much better this evening.  They rocked the house, and I am hope they will return in “Spite” of the small turnout.

After the show, the band hung around and signed autographs, took pictures and hung out with the fans.  They are easily some of the coolest and nicest musicians I have ever met. It was a great night of rock in Columbus, Ohio, and I am quite glad I went.

Don’t miss Charm City Devils when they come to your town.  You can check out the band’s tour dates at the Charm City Devils website.  Don’t forget to pick up a copy of Sins while you are there!

  1. Nice shots!

  2. The Crue Fest show in 2009 HOOKED me on this band. I’ve been waiting patiently for them to tour again, and FINALLY they hit Columbus. Even though there was a shitty turn out, they still rocked it out. The set was great. The new album is great. I’m so happy I made it to this show! And it was nice seeing you again, Rob! :)

  3. That Crue Fest show in 2009 HOOKED me. I’ve been waiting patiently for them to tour again, and FINALLY they hit Columbus. I am so glad I ventured out on a “school night” to see them. It was well worth it. They were great and their new album is great! It hurt my heart that attendance at this show was so shitty, but there was absolutely no promotion. They certainly deserve better than that, but I’m happy they didn’t let the lack of audience ruin their set! And Rob…it was great seeing you! :)
