Italian metal band SECRET SPHERE sings worlwide management deal with Germany’s ROCK N GROWL MANAGEMENT.

SECRET SPHERE recently announced new vocalist Michele Luppi to the group’s ranks. Michele Luppi is one of the top class italian singer’s, well known for his past work with Italy’s Vision Divine, finnish power/progessive metal band Thaurorod and Italy’s Killing Touch.

Screenvision, in an alliance with More2Screen and Eagle Rock, brings Queen, one of the world’s most iconic British rock bands, to the big screen with the feature presentation of “Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest ’86.” Originally filmed on July 27, 1986, this Queen concert film has been re-mastered for digital cinema in high definition with 5.1 surround sound and features many of the band’s most popular tracks, including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “I Want to Break Free” and “We Are the Champions.”
Part of the hugely successful Magic Tour, this concert is significant because it was the last time Queen toured with their late lead singer Freddie Mercury. It was also the largest stadium concert ever staged at the Népstadion in Budapest, in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans – three years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
This special performance is introduced with a 25-minute documentary feature including rare footage – some of which has never been seen before – that gives the inside track on events, following the band from just after their historic performance at Live Aid in 1985 through the year leading up to the concert in Budapest. Using archive footage from rehearsals, interviews with the band in studio and on the road during the Magic Tour, this fascinating feature has been specially created for this new cinema release. Fans worldwide can be part of this celebration of Queen’s global appeal as this event is shown in movie theaters across the U.S. in a limited engagement on September 20, 23 and 27, 2012. 1 DEFTONES ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF SEVENTH STUDIO ALBUM: KOI NO YOKAN
Grammy-winning alternative rock band Deftones have announced the November 13th release of their seventh studio album, entitled KOI NO YOKAN. To support the release they will hit the road on a nationwide headlining tour, with special guest Scars On Broadway, which kicks off October 9th in Ventura, CA and will conclude on the West Coast mid November. Tickets on sale next Friday, September 7 via Ticketmaster.com.
KOI NO YOKAN was recorded in Los Angeles, CA with Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Rush) who also produced Diamond Eyes. Front man Chino Moreno summed up Deftones’ sound in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying “Obviously we’re an aggressive band – not the heaviest, but there’s a lot of attack. He continues, “But there’s also this lush beauty that flows within everything that we do, and that’s my favorite part of the band. To me, it’s the epitome of what the Deftones do.”
From their 1994 debut Adrenaline to their platinum-certified, Billboard chart-topping, Grammy-winning breakthrough album White Pony, Deftones have continually crossed-over genres, defied categorization and delivered compelling live performances around the world. Australian rockers Hands Like Houses released a video for “This Ain’t No Place For Animals,” the second single off of the band’s debut album Ground Dweller. The Rise Records act has been actively touring the US since making its debut on the “Freshman Class Tour of ’12” and then the “All Stars Tour.”
Hands Like Houses released Ground Dweller in March which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, #21 on Billboard US Indie Chart, and #141 on Billboard Top 200. The band will be heading out this fall on the “Collide With The Sky Tour,” with Pierce The Veil headlining and Sleeping With Sirens and Tonight Alive rounding out the bill. Dates can be seen below.

0 Black Country Communion Announce New Album “Afterglow”

Black Country Communion the Anglo-American rock group comprising vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Trapeze), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Billy Idol) and blues-rock guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa, release their third album, ‘Afterglow’, via Mascot Records on Monday October 29th.
Like its two predecessors, ‘Afterglow’ was produced by Kevin Shirley, whose catalogue of hit records for Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith and the Black Crowes has made him the hottest producer that rock music has to offer. Shirley – who had the idea of putting Hughes and Bonamassa together in a band after seeing them jam onstage back in 2009 – is the group’s unofficial ‘fifth member’.
The additions of Jason Bonham, esteemed son of Led Zeppelin’s John, who took his father’s place when the legendary group made musical history by reuniting at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007, and the in-demand Derek Sherinian, makes BCC a force to be reckoned with.
Both BCC’s previous offerings (2010’s eponymous debut album and 2011’s “2”) have gone straight in at #1 on the official UK Rock Album Chart. Embraced by the UK’s music press, Black Country Communion were voted “Best New Band” by the listeners of Planet Rock Radio and won “Best Breakthrough” at the prestigious Classic Rock Magazine Roll Of Honour Awards in 2011.

Voodoo Circle’s”Broken Heart Syndrome” album was THE Classic Hard Rock masterpiece of 2011: after sensational chart success and a great tour with SINNER, Alex Beyrodt’s VOODOO CIRCLE has now extended its deal with AFM Records and is working on a new album. It will be titled “More Than One Way Hom” and is expected to be released in early 2013.

Frontiers Records is proud to announce the return of melodic hard rockers, Dokken; the band’s 11th studio album (and their first in North America for the Frontiers Records label), BROKEN BONES, has been confirmed for a September 25th North American street date. The album will be released in two configurations: standard CD and limited edition CD in digipak with a bonus DVD, which features a comprehensive “Making Of The Album” documentary. Dokken exploded out of the hotbed that was the hard rock and heavy metal scene in Los Angeles in the early ’80s. Wind-Up Records has signed hard rock buzz band ARANDA and set an October 16th release date for the group’s new album, STOP THE WORLD.
The Oklahoma City-based duo of brothers Dameon (guitar/vocals) and Gabe Aranda (keyboard/vocals) are already blanketing the airwaves with their Top 20 hit single, “Satisfied,” currently No. 15 and climbing on the Active Rock Chart. Grammy-nominated producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Staind) produced the song (and album), which the band has been playing live during their nationwide tour with Saving Abel and Redlight King, and most recently with Theory of a Dead Man.
Over the course of the past few years, Aranda has built a diehard following with guitar-driven, hook-filled rock tracks and constant touring, including dates with bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, All American Rejects, Staind and Papa Roach, among others. In 2009, multi-platinum artist Kelly Clarkson hand-picked two Aranda songs to cover on her album, All I Ever Wanted — including the high-energy in-your-face song of rebellion, “Whyyawannabringmedown” and “All I Ever Wanted,” which became the title for Clarkson’s album. That same year Aranda’s “Whyyawannabringmedown” was selected by the WWE as the theme song for the pay-per-view event, The Bash.

Papa Roach has been forced to withdraw from the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival. Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix has been diagnosed with a nodule on his left vocal cord, and at the advice of his physician he will undergo corrective surgery to remove the nodule and prevent further damage.
“It’s no secret that I’ve been having issues with my voice lately. I was hoping to be able to go out there and kill it on this tour by resting and doing vocal exercises, but my voice has just gone out on me. I hate to let our fans down, but unfortunately surgery is the only way to fix it,” Shaddix said. “The last thing we want to do is give our fans less than 100% every night. We know they’ll understand and we’ll be back better than ever.”
“It was amazing having Papa Roach on the road with us for the first few UPROAR shows. We’re disappointed that they can’t continue for the rest of the tour, but Jacoby’s health is the priority and we wish him a speedy recovery,” says Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival co-producer John Oakes.
Beginning Friday, August 24, the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival main stage schedule will be adjusted to allow longer performances from Shinedown, Godsmack, Staind and Adelitas Way.

1 Loudness – Eve To Dawn (2012)
Heavy, powerful, dominate: all are good adjectives to describe Eve To Dawn, the latest record from Japan’s Loudness. This album is like a fresh kick to the groin in a world of stagnant metal. This is Iron Maiden meets Anthrax turned up to eleven! Even though they have been rocking the masses since 1981, Loudness proves that they still know how to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up while blowing out your eardrums in style.
If you haven’t followed Loudness in a while, Eve To Dawn is a good record to get you back into the band. If you’ve never listened to Loudness, Eve To Dawn is a great record to get you interested in the band (you may even seek out their back catalog after listening to this record). Innovation and style paint this disc in a musical landscape that is amazing to the ears of even the most seasoned heavy metal lover.
Songs like “Gonna Do It My Way” showcase how superb Eve To Dawn is. With smart lyrics, exceptional guitar solos, and gritty vocals from lead singer Minoru Niihara, “Gonna Do It My Way” reminds us all how much fun hard rock music can be. Blistering solos and fantastic finger work on “Hang Tough” are reminiscent of Nuno Bettencourt in his prime. “Hang Tough” is a hard and heavy rocker complete with some great rock screams, dark riffs, and mesmerizing guitar solos.
Guitarist Akira Takasaki provides chops that would put most modern guitar players to shame. The lead guitar work is some of the best that I’ve heard on any album released in 2012. Takasaki’s fret work is simply astonishing. If you are a fan of guitars, guitar solos, and a crisp thrash metal sound, Eve To Dawn should be added to your “must own” list.
The instrumental track, “Emotions” may be one of the best overall tracks on Eve To Dawn. Once again, it is Akira Takasaki’s guitar work that makes this song stand out. His playing is simply mind blowing on “Emotions.” Throughout Eve To Dawn, I continued to be amazed at the ability of Takasaki as a guitar player. The guitar work, changes, and musical prowess really helps solidify Eve To Dawn and raise it from mediocre levels to outstanding.
Eve To Dawn is a terrific record that I highly recommend for any fans of the hard rock/sleaze metal genre. It could be the biggest surprise of 2012. Just as I was blown away by the band’s M3 performance, I am once again blown away by their latest CD release. Hard rock has been made fun again thanks to Loudness and Eve To Dawn.

In the world of hard rock, there are several great bands that put on amazing live concerts. There are legendary performances that have been talked about for years. There are bands that are so grand live, when fans see them once, they become fans for life. Then there are the bands that you simply must see at least once in your lifetime. Here now are Ryo’s five choices for bands that you absolutely have to see live in concert at least once in your lifetime.
AC/DC
While Brian Johnson is a fantastic front man, and the rhythm section lead by Malcom Young is highly talented, it is the outrageous antics of Angus Young that makes seeing an AC/DC concert a must. Anytime that Angus takes the stage, the audience is in for a real treat. Between his brilliance with a guitar in his hand, high energy level, and boogie-woogie school boy style, Angus IS AC/DC.
Every tour, there are new antics from Angus and great music to be heard. AC/DC hasn’t put out a terrible album in years, if ever (some people didn’t care for Ball Breaker, I thought it was excellent). In addition to new music every time they go out on tour, the band has a back catalog of nothing but hits. “Hells Bells,” “For Those About To Rock,” “You Shook Me All Night Long,” who wouldn’t want to hear those performed live? Add in the amazing performance from Angus Young and you will definitely get your money’s worth.
There is always a playground for Angus while he wails away on his guitar. Elaborate stage settings, long ramps that run into the audience, and second levels above the main stage are all used in style. The highlight of the night, of course, comes when it is time for Angus’ guitar solo. Most live acts these days find the beer lines full when it comes time to the guitar solo, but not AC/DC. When Angus gets ready to let it rip, that’s when the fans rush back from the food lines. And Angus never disappoints. To even try to describe his guitar solo/strip dance, would be a huge injustice, so I will just say that you need to witness it for yourself. Kiss
Regardless of how you feel about the band and their over saturation in the market with gimmicks, games, toys, and gizmos, seeing Kiss in concert at least once during your lifetime is mandatory if you consider yourself a true hard rock fan. Kiss was one of the first bands to provide fans with a truly bombastic live experience. Between their outlandish costumes, makeup, smoke, and explosions, Kiss has always provided an amazing concert experience. Even during the years without makeup, there were still plenty of fireworks to go around.
Now entering their 60’s, like it or not, Kiss is near the end of their career. And while Peter Criss and Ace Frehley are no longer part of the band, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer are pretty good replacements. The bombs, rocket shooting guitars, blood spitting, fire breathing, live concert amazement is also still there. In one night a fan would get to see Gene Simmons spit blood and breathe fire, Paul Stanley fly through the air, Tommy Thayer shoot rockets out of his guitar, and Eric Singer fire a Bazooka.
Add to that great classic hits like “Love Gun,” “Detroit Rock City,” and “Rock And Roll All Nite,” and you have a recipe for one of the greatest concerts that you have ever witnessed. This is a band that every hard rock fan should see live just once. They are currently on tour this fall. If you don’t have a ticket, do yourself a favor and go buy one. Now.
Metallica
Is there anything that compare to the power of Metallica in concert? Between the music, the volume, the energy, and the deep song catalog, Metallica always puts on a spectacular live show. Metallica is also one of the few hard rock bands that doesn’t perform the same songs every night on tour. Instead of mixing up the set list from tour to tour, they mix up the set list from night to night. Having rocked the masses for more than 30 years, Metallica is also a seasoned, veteran band with a real stage presence.
While no longer filled with all original members, Metallica’s current lineup is no laughing matter. And whenever you have James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, you have quite an amazing band. Metallica is all about raw power in concert. Try to sit through a Metallica concert without getting super excited, fists pumping, and your heart racing. It’s more effective than a gallon of coffee for waking up the senses.
With albums such as their self-titled masterpiece (also known as The Black Album), Ride The Lightning, and Master Of Puppets, there is no end to how many fantastic songs this band can perform. Night after night, fans are guaranteed one of the greatest evenings of their lives. Metallica should be on tour in the very near future and you should get on their concert alert list.
Iron Maiden
Up the irons! There is nothing more exciting than when Iron Maiden storms the stage and Bruce Dickinson comes charging out into the night with the energy level of someone half his age. Make no mistake about it Iron Maiden could be the greatest live band ever. Between creative backdrops, a huge mascot that steals the show and the band’s ability to perform like a well oiled machine, Iron Maiden has everything that a fan wants in a concert.
Lead singer Bruce Dickinson leads the charge and by the end of the first song, he has the entire crowd in the palm of his hand. They are his to command and they will do as they are told. If Bruce says scream, the audience screams. If Bruce says rise, the audience rises. If Bruce says jump, the audience jumps. There is almost no one that commands a crowd like Bruce Dickinson.
On top of all that, the rest of the band is so talented that they fit in perfectly. Steve Harris, master craftsman of songs plays an exceptional bass guitar live. Nicko McBrain is a delight behind the drum kit and the three guitar attack of Adrian Smith, Janick Gers, and Dave Murray simply blows the crowd away. Every member of the band has a strong purpose in the live setting and every member of the band delivers on that purpose.
Then at the end of the night, we get to witness the greatest mascot in the world take the stage. Eddie himself pays a visit at each and every Iron Maiden concert. It is a concert experience like no other, and if you don’t walk out of the show sweating and breathless, then you are either dead, or really a fan of Justin Bieber.
Black Sabbath
Let’s face it—this band is on the list because they are truly the Godfathers of heavy metal. How can you have a list of hard rock bands that need to be seen in concert without including the band that started the genre? Black Sabbath is the reason that there are heavy metal concerts. Prior to them (and Led Zeppelin) music was a lot brighter. Black Sabbath brought the darkness in and continue to do so to this day.
Legends. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward (though no longer with the band). They are legends. And to see these legends live in concert, well it is priceless. Think how much people would pay to see Led Zeppelin reunite. Well, here’s your chance to see a band just as legendary, only they are still touring. Black Sabbath is a must see for any fan of heavy metal. To hear songs like Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Iron Man live is simply mind numbing. To see the Godfathers of heavy metal on stage and performing is breath taking. Just for the historical experience of saying, “I was there,” Black Sabbath needs to be seen in concert. It is definitely something that you would tell your grandchildren about.
The good news is that all of these bands are still active, although one or two of them may not be active for much longer. My advice is to buy a ticket the next time they are in your area, or if need be, travel to see them perform. You will not be disappointed, and you can add their concert to your list of greatest hard rock memories. If you’ve seen all of these bands live already, then you are a true hard rock warrior!

“Honey From A Knife,“ rooted in the seductiveness of addiction, was inspired by the following Buddhist precept, and Ian Astbury states that the accompanying film reveals a “desperate descent into a fractured psyche”:
“Wealth and beauty, to a man who will not relinquish them, are like a knife covered with honey which, even before he has had the pleasure of eating the honey, cuts the tongue of the child that licks it”.

Los Angeles-based Southern groove metal outfit ALL HAIL THE YETI recently filmed an incredible new video for the seventh track from their pending self-titled debut LP.
“The Art Of Mourning” is about a gunslinger who wants out of his “deviant” lifestyle, and is trying to settle down with his wife and kids, but the people above him don’t want to lose their best gun. So they murder his kids, rape and hang his wife. and leave them for dead on the porch of his burnt-down ranch. Now this torn man with nothing left, has to decide whether to come to terms with the consequences of a life that he chose. Or take revenge on the men that took everything from him. Filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia with director Rob Cantin, the video combines close-up performance footage of ALL HAIL THE YETI cut into a gritty, Western movie storyline chock full of old-school debauchery, brutal gunfights and gory head-shots utilizing actual .45 revolvers, a full-on lynching and all kinds of high-action entertainment!
Stated ALL HAIL THE YETI vocalist Connor Garritty on the video’s inception and creation: “Rob and I have been friends for many years and we share a love for the Old West and the gunfighters of the late 1800’s. We have done a couple paranormal investigations of hot spots like tombstone’s birdcage theater, and Bisbee Arizona, trying to get some sort of glimpse of what life would have been like back then. We had a blast making this clip and this is just the beginning for us. We are already in talks about the next one. “Over these last years since leaving Deep Purple, I’ve played it over 30 times with different orchestras and conductors all over the world, and, of course, in 2000 I did it well over 30 times with Purple on the Concerto tour, so I’ve been honing the piece live on stage, and I’ve had the opportunity to change things in the score that weren’t sounding quite right. It is therefore a marvellous and exciting prospect to have the definitive recording of the definitive version of the score.” – Jon Lord, May 2012
Jon Lord recorded the rhythm section - Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Madonna) & Brett Morgan (Jon Anderson, Sting) and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (with whom Jon had recorded twice before) in June 2011 in Liverpool, under conductor Paul Mann. The production then moved to Abbey Road Studios in London to record additions from such noted artists as Iron Maiden‘s Bruce Dickinson (on vocals with Steve Balsamo and Kasia Laska) and Joe Bonamassa, Darin Vasilev and Steve Morse.
Happily, Jon got to hear and approve the final mixes a few weeks before he passed away.
The family and earMUSIC decided to proceed with the release of the album in September as scheduled, as this seemed the best way to celebrate and pay tribute to Jon and his beautiful music. Thus this superb studio recording of Concerto For Group And Orchestra is exactly the way Jon wanted us to hear it and will now hopefully become part of Jon’s legacy for generations to come.
JON LORD
(1941-2012)
With his legendary blues-rock sound, Deep Purple’s founder/organist Jon Lord has influenced decades of rock musicians. He is with no doubt the pioneer of fusing rock and classical/baroque forms and became one of the most important composers of the last few decades.
Jon Lord co-wrote many of Deep Purple’s legendary songs including “Smoke On The Water” and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career (Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord, George Harrison). Best known for his orchestral work Concerto For Group And Orchestra first performed and recorded at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969, conducted by the renowned Malcolm Arnold – a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.
Jon’s solo work was universally acclaimed when he eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002 but he continued to tour the Concerto around the world to sell-out crowds and standing ovations.

The nearly forty-year career of the epic heavy music band Motörhead is chronicled in an amazing and collectable book, MOTÖRHEAD: LIVE TO WIN by Alan Burridge (Cleopatra, August 28).
LIVE TO WIN is the full, in-depth Motörhead story, with previously unpublished, revealing facts, rare and early photos, and is fully approved and endorsed by Lemmy (who also contributes to the introduction).
Motörhead formed in England in 1975 by bassist/singer/songwriter Lemmy Kilmister, and was an early part of the NWOBHM, the movement to reinvigorate loud music. With a big dose of punk, Motörhead’s sound pioneered speed metal, and continues with consistency to support, elevate, and encourage the genre around the world. The band has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and just finished a North American tour.
The book starts in those early days in the 1970s, when the rocky start and personal struggles of the band threatened to keep it on the ground. But with Lemmy’s focus and gutsy determination, the late part of the decade showed success in the UK. The Motörhead world domination of the 1980s and 1990s, including the release of ACES OF SPADES, BASTARDS and more, is chronicled with stories from nearly twenty years of heavy touring with everyone from Dio to Ozzy. The book concludes present day, with Lemmy cemented as a rock icon beside long-time bandmates Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, and still driving that Motörhead train in music history.
Alan Burridge (also known as Professor Motörhead) is the official biographer of Motörhead. He started a fanzine for the band in 1980, which became the band’s endorsed fan magazine, Motörheadbangers. He has written numerous articles, interviews, reviews, and liner notes about the band, as well as more than two dozen other fiction and nonfiction books.

0 DC4 HITS THE ROAD FOR A SHORT SOUTHWESTERN RUN
Los Angeles’ hard rock heroes will be taking their “American Megarock Show” on the road for a quick run through the American Southwest from August 23 – August 26 with shows in Nevada and Arizona. ” We haven’t been to Arizona in a while so we are looking forward to killing it out there!” says drummer Shawn Duncan. “We’ve been getting a lot of offers out of California lately so needless to say we are really looking forward to this little adventure and what can be better than starting out in Las Vegas?!”Supporting their Metal Blade Records debut, Electric Ministry, the band will be featuring songs from all three of their releases. The dates are:
Aug. 23 – Las Vegas, NV – Vamp’d
Aug. 24 – Phoenix, AZ – Rip’s
Aug. 25 – Prescott, AZ – The Drunken Lass
DC4 guitarist, Rowan Robertson will not be joining the band on this run as he has a prior commitment to fulfill with Billy Ray Cyrus. Taking his spot for these dates will be the band’s friend and respected session guitarist, Omar Gusmao. Robertson says, “I’m going to be doing some shows with Billy Ray Cyrus in 2013 and, as it turns out, he scheduled some warm up shows for the end of August. This of course means, and I hope everyone will understand, that this leaves me unavailable for the shows in Nevada and Arizona. It’s a shame as I was looking forward to it but I do have to fulfill my obligation with Billy.”
Rowan remains in DC4 and will join the band on future dates. They are currently writing for their Metal Blade sophomore effort.
0 US Thrashers KILL RITUAL signed with Scarlet Records
SF Bay Area Thrashers KILL RITUAL has signed a worldwide deal for the Oct. 30th release of their debut CD “The Serpentine Ritual” with Scarlet Records.
The CD was recorded and engineered by Kill Ritual Lead Guitarist Steve Rice at Fang Studios in San Mateo, CA and Fossil Sound in San Jose, CA. Mix and Mastering was done by Andy LaRocque of King Diamond fame at his Sonic Train Studios in Varberg Sweden. LaRocque also makes a guest appearance on the CD with the ending solo on the track “Coat Of Blood“.
The band has also shot a promo video for the first single “Old School Thrasher” that was directed and edited by Mike Sloat (Testament, Machine Head, Lynyrd Skynyrd…) to be released in conjunction with CD.
The cover art was designed by Jobert Mello for Sledgehammer Graffix (Sabaton, Primal Fear…)
Lead Guitarist Steve Rice comments on the deal: “Well the Kill Ritual debut will at last see the light of day and we are psyched to have Scarlet Records on board for the release of the CD.
