The album artwork and track listing for 13–the first new studio album in 35 years from the original BLACK SABBATH–have now been revealed. In classic SABBATH fashion, the CD, due out June 11, comes in at nearly sixty minutes in just eight songs.
For the recording of 13, BLACK SABBATH–OZZY OSBOURNE, TONY IOMMI and GEEZER BUTLER–were joined at the sessions by drummer Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine). Produced by Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year), the album will be released on Vertigo (worldwide) and Vertigo/Republic in the U.S.
The 13 track listing is as follows:
1. End Of The Beginning (8:07)
2. God Is Dead? (8:54)
3. Loner (5:06)
4. Zeitgeist (4:28)
5. Age Of Reason (7:02)
6. Live Forever (4:49)
7. Damaged Soul (7:43)
8. Dear Father (7:06)
After listening to this album multiple times, I searched and searched for the right words to use in order to describe it to you. There were only two words that kept popping up in my head: Holy shit. I kept listening to it and every time the only words that kept coming out of my mouth were, “Holy shit!”
Let’s just get this part out of the way immediately: The obvious comparison that you are going to notice is AC/DC. Yes, if you didn’t know any better, you’d think this was never before released Bon Scott era AC/DC. But you know better and there are enough slight differences that will make you realize it. Besides, this album is so good, you’ll forget about that comparison pretty quickly.
The album opens with the awesome rock anthem aptly titled “Hallelujah Rock n’ Roll.” After that, it’s just one solid rock song after another. For me, this is exactly what rock and roll is all about: dirty, sweaty tunes that make you move. I couldn’t stop tapping my foot, and I couldn’t wipe the stupid grin off of my face while listening to this album. I’m pretty sure that if anyone would’ve seen me while I was listening to this album, they would’ve thought I was completely insane. Song after song after song and my smile got bigger, my foot pounded harder and the only I could say was, “Holy shit!”
AC/DC may be the strongest influence, but it’s certainly not the only influence you’re going to hear. Go Baby Go will take you back with it’s retro/rockabilly vibe. Hardrocking Man has hints of early Rolling Stones. And bluesy rock is in just about every other nook and cranny of this album.
And then there’s their cover of the Beatles’ “Help.” This one threw me for a loop. Honestly, I didn’t even recognize it the first time I heard it; my husband had to clue me in. Wow. Just wow. I know a lot of people are very particular about cover songs, and I’m one of those people. Most are purists and prefer no one, no matter who the artist, touch or even attempt to cover the catalogue of their favorite band. I’m sure Beatles fans would start a riot over this one. To me, Krokus’ cover was TOTALLY different. They turned this song into one of the most amazing 80’s ballads I’ve ever heard. Like…it would’ve been included on Monster Ballads. Depending on which side of the fence you’re sitting on, this could be a good thing or it could be totally sacrilegious.
Krokus outdid themselves on this one. From start to finish, this album is fantastic. I kept listening to it not only because I had to review it, but also because I wanted to. It’s been a while since I’ve wanted to put an album on repeat all day; this is one of those albums.

We are less than a month away from this year’s M3 music festival. It’s the only festival that revisits all the best from the hair metal days and lets us party like a long lost rock star all weekend long! I really
enjoy the annual Hard Rock Hideout trip to Maryland for this festival and I think 2013 may be our best trip yet.
And while this year’s lineup doesn’t contain much to complain about (how can you complain when WASP, KIX, Jackyl, and Twisted Sister are all on the same bill?), there are a couple of bands missing that I
would really like to see. Perhaps M3 can keep them in mind for 2014.
Stryper got screwed at last year’s festival. They had a lousy time slot, they had to cut their set short due to poor scheduling and they weren’t even allowed to play one additional song despite strong demand
from fans. It does not surprise me that they are not going to be at this year’s M3 after what happened last year. However, they should be there and they should be given a prime slot. Stryper had one of the
best performances in 2012 and had they been allowed to play a little longer, they may have had the performance of the weekend. And while I think that WASP, Twisted Sister, Bret Michaels, and KIX are
all fine headliners, Stryper would fit that bill as well. If Bret Michaels went missing and Stryper took his place, I don’t think anyone would complain. And no, that’s not a knock on Bret, it’s more of a testament
For the love of all that is holy, when are Vito Bratta and Mike Tramp going to make up and get a full on White Lion reunion together? Could it be that hard for these two guys to talk to each other for one tour?
Vito Bratta is one of the greatest guitarists to ever perform in the 80s and I still can’t understand how we haven’t seen him at one of these nostalgic festivals. I don’t think that there is any band that I would
love to see perform at a festival like M3 more than White Lion. I missed them the first time around. I didn’t get to see them tour behind Big Game. So yes, I am being a little selfish here, but White Lion was
a terrific band. If nothing else couldn’t White Lion perform at least one show? How hard would that be to coordinate? It’s not like they have much else going on. Give your fans what they want already!
While they may not have huge, memorable, chart topping hits ala White Lion and Stryper, Vain is an exceptional sleaze metal band that got their start in the 80s. Recently the band released a brand new
album of material titled Enough Rope. It was another solid album from this great band. Yet, with all the fantastic music they’ve recorded, and despite the fact that I saw several Vain T-shirts at M3’s past, Vain
continues to be left off the bill. Now, I don’t know if it’s because the promoters contacted them and Vain is not interested, but I seriously doubt that. Maybe the money isn’t right, but I am only speculating.
I do not know the reason that Vain is not performing at this year’s M3 (or any year’s M3 for that matter),
I just know that they aren’t there. And that is a disappointment. Vain is definitely an act that should be
added to the roster.
Pretty Boy Floyd
Two years ago, Pretty Boy Floyd opened the second stage and put on what I feel is one of the best performances in M3 history. It is still one of my top 5 moments in festival attendance. So why the hell
hasn’t this band been back since? Not only should Pretty Boy Floyd have returned, they should be in a prime slot on the main stage. Perhaps not a headlining slot, but the slot just before that would be good
for this band. They give a solid performance and there is no reason why the fans wouldn’t love them. All of their songs weren’t huge hits, but that doesn’t really matter. Pretty Boy Floyd is so talented as a live
act, fans will love the entire performance by the time it is over, whether they know the songs or not. The only advice that I would have for the band is to make sure they kept copies of their album(s) on hand,
because after dominating the stage, fans would want to scoop them up. Alas, it won’t matter much, because the band is not on the 2013 bill. Again, I reiterate—why the hell not?
Can someone say headliner? M3 is always looking to mix up their headlining acts and bring in bands that will draw fans. Why not reach out to Europe and get them on the bill? The band released a new album
last year and they have plenty of well known, stateside hits that would bring the audience to their feet and leave them screaming for more. “Carrie,” “Superstitious,” “Rock The Night,” and of course, “The
Final Countdown” all qualify this band to be headliners, so why haven’t we seen them at an M3 yet? Warrant has been there. Cinderella has been there. Ratt was there last year. Even Nelson has made it
to the show. Why not Europe? What is it that could be holding them back? Promoters? Demand? Pay? I have no idea, but if M3 really wanted to blow us all away in 2014, they would announce that Europe is
going to be the closer for one of the two nights. Now, I will admit that I’ve never seen the band live and I don’t know how their current live performance is—perhaps it’s not headliner worthy. But, something
tells me that is just not the case.
Those are the missing bands that I think belong at this year’s M3 Festival. What about you? Which bands do you think should be there?
Remember the classic John Carpenter move They Live featuring Roddy Piper? The Biters released a killer new(NOT SAFE FOR WORK) music video “Hallucination Generation” that is a cool take on that often forgotten sci fi flick.

Magnus Karlsson started his cooperation with Frontiers Records in the year 2000 when his band LAST TRIBE was signed by the Italian label. After two more records with this group, Magnus was asked by Serafino Perugino, Frontiers Records label President, to write and produce some of their artists. This started a successful journey of collaborations with some of the greatest singers and musicians in the Hard Rock/Metal world. The list includes the successful ALLEN/LANDE trilogy, STARBREAKER, BOB CATLEY, KISKE/SOMERVILLE and the list goes on and on. He finally joined the German Heavy Metal icons PRIMAL FEAR in 2008 and with them he toured the world and recorded two successful albums that climbed high on the charts in several countries.
This time Magnus created his own album with his strongest melodic metal and hard rock set of songs ever and invited both old and new friends to sing them! The list includes RUSSELL ALLEN (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob), RALF SCHEEPERS (Primal Fear, Gamma Ray), TONY HARNELL (TNT, Starbreaker), MARK BOALS (Yngwie Malmsteen, The Codex), RICK ALTZI (Masterplan, At Vance), MIKE ANDERSSON (Star One, Full Force), RICKARD BENGTSSON (Last Tribe), HERMAN SAMING (A.C.T), DAVID READMAN (Pink Cream 69, Vodoo Circle). Rounding up the line-up on the album is Daniel Flores on drums.
“I’ve had the honour to collaborate with some of the greatest singers and musicians in the world”, says Magnus. “Artists who have made my life richer with their magical music. On this album I got the chance to write tailor made songs for some of my absolute favourite singers. I was thinking, what would I really like to hear from this or that guy and then I wrote the songs. It’s like if I’m missing a song with my favourite singer in my record collection, then I just make that song for him! I listen like a fan and I write like a fan well…I am a fan!”
MAGNUS KARLSSON’S FREE FALL debut album includes the following songs
Free Fall (lead vocals: Russell Allen); Higher (lead vocals: Ralf Scheepers); Heading Out (lead vocals: Magnus Karlsson); Stronger (lead vocals: Tony Harnell); Not My Saviour (lead vocals: Rick Altzi); Us Against The World (lead vocals: David Readman); Our Time Has Come (lead vocals: Mark Boals); Ready or Not (lead vocals: Magnus Karlsson); Last Tribe (lead vocals: Rickard Bengtsson); Fighting (lead vocals: Herman Saming); Dreamers & Hunters (lead vocals: Mike Andersson); On Fire (lead vocals: Magnus Karlsson)

Fans of bluesy hard rock and killer riffs can check out the sexy new video for Burning Rain‘s track “My Lust Your Fate” below. The single is taken from the forthcoming album, EPIC OBSESSION, which will be released on May 21st in North America via Frontiers Records and can be pre-ordered here. Burning Rain is current Whitesnake axeman Doug Aldrich, singer Keith St. John (ex-Montrose), Sean McNabb on bass (ex-Quiet Riot, Dokken, House of Lords) and Mat Starr on drums (Ace Frehley). EPIC OBSESSION comes after a long hiatus from the release of the band’s second album, PLEASURE TO BURN, in 2000.
Frontiers Records will also reissue the long out-of-print first two albums from Burning Rain, the self-titled debut (released in 1999) and the aforementioned PLEASURE TO BURN. Both albums will be repackaged and remastered and will contain two added bonus tracks to each respective album. Burning Rain‘s previous efforts received great acclaim in Japan and the UK prior to Aldrich being tapped as guitarist for Whitesnake in 2002, with Melodic Rock.com declaring, “Great quality song writing…fantastic production that rivals any others out there. For fans of classic blues influenced hard rock there will be few albums to rival this record…”

On May 7, Deadline Music (a subsidiary of Cleopatra Records) will release CRUCIFIED by M:Pire of Evil, the thrash metal project by former Venom members Mantas (guitar), Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan (vocals, bass), and ex-Throwdown drummer JXN.
CRUCIFIED bulldozes through eleven tracks (including nine Venom favorites from the PRIME EVIL era), opening with the driving “Temples of Ice” and not taking its foot off the gas through the closing beast, “Taking It All” (which includes the perfect anti- chant). The riffs are dense and mighty, rhythms propulsive, and the vocals relentlessly intense. The record takes on dystopian themes of destruction, evil, and corruption and in the case of pointed tracks like “Blackened Are The Priests,” all three.
In 1979, guitarist Jeff Dunn took on the name Mantas and created a musical entity that would inspire an entire subgenre of metal. Venom combined dark, heavy and loud with a proficiency that created history with two records, WELCOME TO HELL and BLACK METAL, that are considered the gold standard of thrash. Built on this foundation, M:Pire of Evil formed in the U.K. in 2010. Their debut record displayed musical integrity and prowess befitting of the legacy. CRUCIFIED, MoE’s second full-length record, continues that legacy.
CRUCIFIED TRACK LIST
- Temples of Ice
- Kissing the Beast
- Blackened Are The Priests
- Black Legions
- Need To Kill
- Wolverine (
- Taking It All
CRUCIFIED will be in stores and online retailers for MSRP of $14.98. The booklet includes art by Mantas, lyrics and band pics.
Lita Ford’s song “Close My Eyes Forever”, featuring a duet with Ozzy Osbourne, is one of Lita Ford’s biggest hits. David Draiman’s new project, Device did a cover of this Lita Ford classic. This is one of the songs on Device’s up and coming self titled album, due out April 9th.
The new version of the song features Lzzy Hale from Halestorm on vocals.
I have always liked Disturbed, and I love Lzzy Hale, but this cover just falls flat in my opinion. Check it out below, and let us know what you think.
