“Die For You” #28 At Active Rock Radio With Increasing Spins
“Rebel Yell” Single Set For November 11 iTunes Release
In celebration of their fans, Las Vegas rockers OTHERWISE have just released the acoustic ‘ENJOY THE PAIN’ EP for free via the website www.EnjoyThePainEP.com. The ‘ENJOY THE PAIN’ free download was announced this afternoon exclusively on SiriusXM Octane, where the band – frontman Adrian Patrick, guitarists Ryan Patrick and Andrew Pugh, drummer Corky Gainsford and bassist Vassilios Metropoulos – hosted an exclusive station takeover that will repeat daily through November 4. The special features an interview, acoustic performance, and the band taking over the Octane playlist. In early 2012, OTHERWISE became the first unsigned band to reach No. 1 on the Octane Big ‘Uns Countdown – SiriusXM launched the band’s career into the national spotlight, and now they are helping OTHERWISE deliver ‘ENJOY THE PAIN’ to their fans.
The OTHERWISE SiriusXM Octane takeover will repeat at the following times this weekend, and is also available via SiriusXM On Demand:
Friday, November 1 – 12pm ET/9am PT
Saturday, November 2 – 8pm ET/5pm PT
Sunday, November 3 – 2pm ET/11am PT

“‘ENJOY THE PAIN‘ is our gift to you. It’s our way of saying thank you for the success you’ve helped us earn, and a little something to hold you over until our next full length album is released in 2014,” says OTHERWISE of the EP. “We recorded this entirely on our own, on the road, in between shows while out on tour. If we couldn’t find a quiet bedroom or bathroom to track in, we’d record while literally driving down the highway… The process wasn’t easy. It wasn’t slick. It wasn’t normal. It didn’t adhere to any set of rules, guidelines, or industry standards. At times it was painful… And we enjoyed every minute of it. So please, ‘ENJOY THE PAIN’ with us… and enjoy this EP.”
‘ENJOY THE PAIN’ Track Listing:

While rifling through my CD/record/cassette tape/mp3/music collection this past weekend, I happened upon the self-titled debut album from Britny Fox. I quickly decided to dust the cassette off and give it a whirl in the old tape deck. Yes, I still have a cassette deck, and yes, it still works…sometimes. Fortunately, this was one of those times that it worked.
Putting in Britny Fox plastered a smile across my face and brought back a wave of memories. From 1988 – 1990, I was as obsessed with Britny Fox as I am with Pop Evil today. I thought that Britny Fox was one of the greatest bands in rock with the potential to have a huge future. The first time that I heard “Long Way To Love” on MTV, I was hooked. I picked up their debut album not long after that. Packed with gems like “Girlschool,” “Save The Weak,” “In America,” and their magnificent cover of Slade’s “Gudbuy T’Jane,” that tape was fantastic.
The band released an exceptional follow up with 1989’s Boys In Heat. This album contained two of the band’s biggest hits in their cover of Nazareth’s “Hair Of The Dog,” and the ever popular “Dream On,” which spent weeks in the top ten of Dial MTV (which was how bands got their notoriety back then). With Boys In Heat doing so well, I just knew that Britny Fox was going to take over the world. Then something happened within the band, and Dean Davidson, the band’s cherished lead singer, left. He went on to form Blackeyed Susan, while Britny Fox went out to find a new singer in Tommy Paris.
I picked up a copy of Blackeyed Susan’s Electric Rattlebone not long after its release and I loved it. I still have that on cassette to this day and that still plays as well. It was a more southern sounding version of Britny Fox, less metal, more blues, and I liked it a lot. However, when Davidson left Britny Fox, I never went back to them. The band released Bite Down Hard in 1991, but without Davidson, I didn’t bother to pick up the album. Blackeyed Susan never released another record. Their follow up album Just A Taste was recorded, but never put out, which is a shame. So what happened to these guys? Where have they been? What have they been doing? Where are they now?
Dean Davidson – Lead Vocals
After leaving Britny Fox to form Blackeyed Susan, Dean Davidson released one album with that band and recorded a second. When the music genre shifted, Davidson went silent for a while and then reappeared in 1999 when 80s metal was having a resurgence. He would go on to record solo albums, and there were rumors in 2010 that he was getting back together with Britny Fox, but that never happened. These days, Davidson is working on a new country-tinged solo album that is due out in 2014.
Michael Kelly Smith – Lead Guitar
Guitarist Michael Kelly Smith stayed with Britny Fox until the end of their run (1993) when the music scene changed dramatically. In 2003 he performed with a band called Razamanaz and released one album. Smith was involved with the production of the greatest hits and live albums that Britny Fox released, but has not done much in the field of music since his days with them.
Billy Childs – Bass Guitar
Bassist Billy Childs bounced around a lot after 2003. There were a few different lineups of Britny Fox and he was involved in them all, most recently, the 2008 (and last) Britny Fox lineup, which played several club dates throughout the US. These days, Billy Childs is the bassist in a Led Zeppelin cover band called Get The Led Out. The band still tours nationally and they have some Northeast dates scheduled for this November and December.
Johnny Dee – Drums
Drummer Johnny Dee went on to play in Doro’s touring band after the demise of Britny Fox, where he remains to this day. Dee played drums on Doro’s last two albums, Fear No Evil and Raise Your Fist and toured all over Europe and the US with the band. Dee is currently out on the road in Europe for Doro’s 30th anniversary tour.
With festivals like M3 and Rocklahoma happening annually, it would be nice to think that Britny Fox could get back together for a small tour or at least some festival performances, but that is highly unlikely. It appears that Davidson and the rest of the band still don’t speak and it is doubtful that they would be willing to put aside their differences for even one tour. That’s unfortunate, because there are still a lot of fans out there who would love to see Britny Fox play live.

Respect. When I think of the musicians that make up the band The Winery Dogs, I have nothing but respect. Billy Sheehan, Mike Portnoy, and Richie Kotzen are amongst some of the best hard rock musicians to ever grace the stage. When I first heard about the Winery Dogs, I couldn’t wait to hear what the band had to offer. Sometimes when a so called supergroup comes out, the music isn’t quite what you expect it to be. That simply isn’t the case with the Winery Dogs. Every member of the the band shines on this release, and Richie Kotzen is the real X-factor, as his singing is far better than expected. Kotzen pushes his voice to the limit. His vocals are fantastic, and some of the best he has ever done.
The music on this CD oscillates between the decades, and gives the listener a nice voyage from the 70′s & 80′s classic rock, to some bluesier numbers, and some more modern offerings. If you have ever listened to some of Richie Kotzen’s solo releases, The Winery Dogs will seem pretty familiar to you. The music isn’t a far stretch from Kotzen’s solo material, and that is a great thing.
The major difference with The Winery Dogs, is you get the best rhythm section in hard rock, and you get the wicked solos from Mr. Sheehan, Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen.
The Winery Dogs give you great songs, and sophisticated jams that should satisfy even the pickiest hard rock fan. This is one of those albums that you can listen to from beginning to end, without the need to skip any songs. It really is that good.
This CD has been one of my favorites of 2013. If you haven’t picked it up, you should definitely give it a listen. I highly recommend it!!

BOSTON’S HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM
LIFE, LOVE & HOPE RELEASED ON FRONTIERS IN DECEMBER
Band’s First Studio Album in 10-Plus Years to Be
* * * * *
Released Worldwide on Frontiers Records
On December 6th, BOSTON’s latest studio album, Life, Love & Hope will be released in Europe on Frontiers Records. More than a decade in the making, Life, Love & Hope features 11 tracks replete with the classic and beloved BOSTON sound, as well as the latest in the evolution of Tom Scholz’ musical artistry. Diverse yet cohesive, this long-awaited album has something for everyone and will fulfill the expectations of existing fans, while exposing a new generation to one of rock and roll’s great acts. Scholz says, “These are songs from the heart, each of them taking many months of effort to write, arrange, perform and record, always up to the demands of BOSTON’s harshest critic, me. They have all been meticulously recorded to analogue tape on the same machines and equipment used for BOSTON’s hits for the past 35 years.”
BOSTON burst onto the music scene with their eponymous best-selling debut album in 1976, and never looked back. With over 17 million copies sold, Boston generated hits such as “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Smokin’,” rock staples that are still in heavy rotation today. Their second effort, Don’t Look Back was another chart-topper that confirmed their place in rock history, followed by Third Stage, which hit #1 on the charts, with the top single of 1986, “Amanda.” With over 31 million albums sold to date, BOSTON’s music has stood the test of time, as evidenced by live BOSTON audiences that spans generations.
Life, Love & Hope includes lead vocals from Brad Delp and prodigy Tommy DeCarlo, as well as Kimberley Dahme, David Victor, and songwriter Scholz himself. This release features tracks that have the characteristic BOSTON trademark guitars, harmonies, and immaculately-crafted sound. “I intentionally stayed close to the early BOSTON style on some of the songs, even using the same amps and instruments; on others I let my imagination run wild,” says Scholz.
A beautiful full-color booklet with notes from Scholz and detailed song credits accompanies Life, Love & Hope, available now for pre-order on Amazon national shops in UK, Germany, Spain, France and Italy and all other fine retailers across Europe.
Life, Love & Hope track listing includes:
Heaven on Earth; Didn’t Mean to Fall in Love; Last Day of School; Sail Away; Life, Love & Hope; If You Were in Love; Someday; Love Got Away; Someone (2.0); You Gave Up on Love (2.0); The Way You Look Tonight.
Chicago rock band, The Last Vegas released their video for “Come With Me” today. It is the latest song off their upcoming full-length album Sweet Salvation, available Spring 2014. You can download “Come With Me” for free at The Last Vegas’ Facebook page.
JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS PREMIERE OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “ANY WEATHER”
New Album Unvarnished Available Now
Rock n’ roll icon JOAN JETT & her Blackhearts have unveiled the anticipated official music video for the single “Any Weather,” which comes via her newly released album Unvarnished. Joan is fresh off the heels of her surprise performance at iHeartRadio Festival and her intimate record release show at Santos Party House in NYC. The new video – directed by Kevin Kerslake – was shot in Los Angeles, CA, and showcases a never-before-used camera technique to give the production a raw and classic aura.
“Embedding the theme of the video in the form of my approach, cinematically-speaking – my camera crew and I ripped apart two state of the art cameras, exposing their guts and effectively turning them into 21st Century versions of crude, antiquated devices,” explains director Kevin Kerslake on the unique filming techniques used during the video shoot. “They were the digital filmic equivalent of two tin cans and a piece of string.”
Joan has said that Unvarnished is the most introspective album she’s ever done. While still keeping to her signature sound, Jett observes her own life as well as life around her. From applauding the determination of Hurricane Sandy’s victims to lighthearted commentary on today’s trend of over-sharing, the new album touches a variety of subjects. Jett expanded her creative process to work with musicians Dave Grohl and Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, as well as Blackhearts guitarist Dougie Needles and drummer Thommy Price. In addition, Joan has continued her work with longtime writing partner/producer, Kenny Laguna. “It’s a real band album. Everybody was involved,” explains Joan. For more information on Jaon Jett and Unvarnished, visit www.joanjett.com.
When Ronnie Montrose passed away on March 3, 2012, friends and musicians immediately wondered what they could do to pay homage to one of rock’s all-time legendary – and influential – guitarists. The result was some of music’s most renowned artists uniting for a concert only a month and a half later (April 27) and performing Ronnie classics throughout the evening – which will now make its official DVD release on December 10, 2013, ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music.’
Recorded in San Francisco at the historic Regency Ballroom and mixed in 5.1 surround sound, the DVD features performance by Ronnie’s past band members in Montrose (Sammy Hagar, Denny Carmassi, Bill Church with Joe Satriani), Gamma (Davey Pattison, Denny Carmassi and Glenn Letsch with Marc Bonilla), performing both groups’ hits.
Additionally, Ronnie’s colleagues and people he mentored and produced over the 40 years of his career are featured as well, including Neal Schon (Journey), Ricky Phillips (Styx), Steve Smith (ex-Journey), Ed Roth, Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks), Jeff Watson (ex-Night Ranger), Tesla, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer (Kiss), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), and more.
The DVD will also include interviews, bonus features, a photo gallery, and an additional set of Ronnie’s hits by an all-star band featuring Chuck Terpo, Mario Cipollina, Tal Morris, Dave Meniketti and the members of Y&T. This was recorded and filmed at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios.
A trailer can be viewed below.
The iconic and legendary Ronnie Montrose has been called the Father Of American Hard Rock – an innovator and an incendiary guitar genius. In his short time with Van Morrison Ronnie created the iconic guitar riff for the classic song “Wild Nights”. In the Edgar Winter group he left even a bigger Mark with his catchy heavy-handed riffs on songs like “Free Ride” and “Frankenstein”. But it would be his self-titled release, MONTROSE that would become the cornerstone of American hard rock. This debut in 1973 crafted such classics as “Rock the Nation”, “Bad Motor Scooter,” and “Space Station #5.” It laid the ground work and became the template for bands like Van Halen and countless subsequent musicians. His musical Journey lead him to the creation of GAMMA where he crafted songs like “Voyager”, “Thunder And Lighting” and “Ready For Action”. Ronnie was always searching and reinventing himself musically. Venturing through a brief instrumental period he brought us both “Open Fire” and his masterpiece version of “Town Without Pity”.
And now, fans will be able to experience the music of Ronnie once again, with the new DVD, ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music.’

Corey Lowery (Stuck Mojo / Stereomud / Dark New Day), B.C. Kochmit (Switched), Donald Carpenter (Submersed) and Ryan Bennett (Texas Hippie Coalition) all have seen success in the past through other ensembles. With the formation of Eye Empire however, they have proven a commitment to seeing through what they started. Lowery remembers, “BC and I started playing together when he was in Switched, and I knew that he would be the guitar player that I would one day create something special and lasting with. He has a great sense of melody with rhythm and solos and a great understanding of arrangement and what’s best for the song. He knows the difference between shredding and holding one note, and making that one note sing. He truly has his own style as an artist.” He continues, “with DC, when I met him on Halloween four years ago, from the first note he sang, I knew he was something special. He treats his voice like an instrument, always focused, pushing himself to finding new voices with each song. Lyrically, he believes in what he is singing. Never preaching, but expressing what he’s been through or seen in his life on the road. And lastly with the youngest member of the quartet Ryan Bennett, Lowery reflects, “Simply one of the baddest drummers to come to the rock ‘n roll scene in years. Grabbing some of his favorite drummers and making his own style with Eye Empire. He’s the guy that is always smiling staying positive until he gets behind the drums then he explodes.”
Musically, they have established a connection that has witnessed an organic swell. Audiences have grown, and the band is now a bona fide headliner. It has everything to do with chemistry. They push one another to stay fresh. Thus, the chosen title of EVOLVE for the upcoming album which follows the band’s independently released debut IMPACT. As Carpenter shares, “I am deeply connected to this story. You truly have to live by your heart and trust that life will lead you in the direction you are needed. I believed and it led me to Eye Empire. I will never take that for granted.”

This past Tuesday, Pearl Jam released their 10th studio album, Lightning Bolt. Prior to the release of the record, there was a lot of buzz and hype. The two singles that were released over the last three months, “Mind Your Manners” and “Sirens” had me excited that this new record could be their best album since the self-titled avocado release. Not only could it be their best album since then, Lightning Bolt could be their best album since Yield.
If you haven’t checked out Pearl Jam in a while, Lightning Bolt is a great place to get back on board with the band. They are currently on a fall tour of the U.S., and for anyone who has never seen them live, I say this: Pearl Jam is one band that you must see in concert before you die. Most of the shows for this fall tour still have tickets available for purchase, albeit not many and not the best seats. Key venues like Brooklyn and Seattle have been sold out since the minute tickets went on sale, so fans in that area (yep – that’s me) are out of luck unless they take a road trip. And if you’ve never seen the band live before, a road trip is worth the cost, time and effort. Pearl Jam is one of the greatest live acts I’ve ever witnessed.
It’s amazing to see that after 22 years, this band is still making solid, meaningful music. The latest single, “Sirens,” is the new “Black.” It is also the greatest Pearl Jam song ever recorded. Between the emotion with which lead vocalist Eddie Vedder sings, the brilliance of Mike McCready’s guitar solos and the haunting piano chords from Boom Gasper, “Sirens” hits every nerve in the soul of the listener. The lyrics are outstanding, highlighting Vedder’s skill in crafting a masterpiece with meaning. The song is also a perfect example of how well the band has aged over the years.
“Mind Your Manners” is reminiscent of “Spin The Black Circle” (from Vitalogy), but stronger and more enjoyable. “Lightning Bolt” is a phenomenal song that captures the Pearl Jam of today and includes another stupendous solo from McCready. Other notable tracks on the new album include “Let The Records Play” and the beautiful ballad, “Yellow Moon.”
Early era Pearl Jam is well represented on this album, although with a modern twist. Influences from Ten, Vs,, and Vitalogy can all be heard with clarity. Yet they are no longer singing about the youth movement and overtaking the world, Pearl Jam have now looked inward and are starting to feel the effects of aging and mortality. A lot of that emotion shows on Lightning Bolt, and is put to good use by the band. Themes of aging, doubt, uncertainty, and the end of life are all captured and exploited in a manner that only a magnificent veteran rock act like Pearl Jam could manage.
It’s been four years since Pearl Jam released their last studio album (Backspacer), but the long wait was well worth it. Lightning Bolt displays only the best of this storied band. Producer Brendan O’Brien worked closely with the group to ensure that only the highest quality was memorialized for this record. The hard work and long hours paid off, as Lightning Bolt is destined to be a number one album and help Pearl Jam reclaim the title of “most talked about rock band.” Although these days, it won’t be for their boycott of ticketing agencies, or their feuds with other famous musicians—this time it will be all about the performance.
In a couple of months when I am pouring over all of the new releases that I’ve heard this year, trying in earnest to pick my ten favorites of 2013, I can guarantee that Lightning Bolt will be battling for the top spot. If you get one new record this fall, Lightning Bolt should be it. And if you go to see one concert this autumn, Pearl Jam should be your concert of choice. And if you have an extra ticket and need a huge fan to keep you company, feel free to get in touch with me. I’d be happy to attend.

AND CELEBRITY CHEFS EMERIL LAGASSE AND GUY FIERI
Sammy Hagar celebrated his 66th Birthday with an epic jam session that closed out his 23rd annual Birthday Bash at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico last night, Sunday, October 13. Sammy was joined by his band mates past and present including Michael Anthony (Chickenfoot, Van Halen), Denny Carmassi (Montrose) and his band, The Wabos for hits spanning his four decades in music before Alex González, the drummer from legendary, highest-selling Latin American band, Maná surprised him on stage to jam on songs “Poundcake,” “Runaround” and “Best of Both Worlds.”
Also joining Hagar’s Birthday Bash were his celeb Chef buddies Emeril Lagasse and Guy Fieri, who introduced the The Red Rocker to a standing-room-only club of fans who’d lined up hours in advance and braved rain to get prime access to the birthday concert. Fans who were not able to join Sammy in Cabo can watch the exclusive birthday bash special on AXS TV on Oct 27.
Earlier in the week Hagar treated audiences to a surprise show, featuring his first ever album run- through concert. On Saturday, October 5 Sammy and the Wabos rocked through each track, in running order, of his new hit album Sammy Hagar & Friends, released Sept 24 via Frontiers Records. His wife Kari Hagar even joined in singing harmonies on “All We Need Is an Island” to close out the show.
On Saturday, Oct.12 Hagar and Chef Emeril Lagasse hosted their 8th annual auction dinner to benefit Lagasse’s Emeril Lagasse Foundation. This was the duo’s final Cabo Birthday Bash pairing, which to date has raised more than $2 million for the non-profit.
NerVer featuring Casey Daniel from Seven Mary Three is gearing up to release Bullfighter, their debut Pavement Music release on October 29, 2013. Their single “No Cage” is currently being serviced to radio.
NerVer began as a solo studio project in 2004 by Casey Daniel (Seven Mary Three). After writing several records worth of material and honing in on the sound of the band, Casey found lead guitarist CodyMac in 2009, and they began recording the debut NerVer record, “twelve twenty one twenty twelve”. They released their first single, No Cage, in late 2009 gaining regular airplay on KDJE The Edge in Little Rock (even beating chart toppers Skillet and Adelitas Way in their band to band combat), WDIZ, and several other stations. In the fall of 2010, NerVer released their full record “twelve twenty one twenty twelve” to a great critical and fan response.
The band grew quickly in 2011, adding Marshall Hearne on drums and eventually adding Shane Scaramellino on bass. In late 2011, NerVer took their brand of hard rock to the stage booking shows at great venues throughout the Southeast such as House of Blues, The Social, and Wall Street Plaza. The band is now booked by the national booking agency Popular Music, and has shared the stage as direct support for several nationals (Candlebox, 7m3, Nonpoint, Adema, etc.) and played major festivals such as WJRR’s Earthday Birthday 20, Florida Music Festival, Orange Ave Jam, and 96 Rock’s Christmas Part in Cincinnati.
Check out NerVer’s video “No Cage” below.
Tour dates will be announced soon.

Award-winning, legendary guitarist Michael Schenker will release a brand new studio album entitled “Bridge The Gap” in the UK on Monday December 2nd. Released by in-akustik, the album features Schenker’s band Temple of Rock which consists of ex-Scorpions Herman Rarebell (drums) and Francis Buchholz (bass), plus ex-Rainbow’s Doogie White (vocals) and Wayne Findlay (guitar, keyboards).
Listen to the world premiere of new song “Where The Wild Winds Blow” – http://snd.sc/18Rlbs0
The new album features 13 hard-hitting, adrenalin fueled melodic rock’n’roll songs that showcase Schenker’s distinctive and explosive guitar playing, valiantly underpinned by the ferocious rhythm section of Rarebell and Buchholz, marking the first time Schenker, Rarebell and Buchholz appeared on the same album together since the Scorpions’ 1979 “Lovedrive”.
“I wanted to combine the old with the new,” says Schenker. “That’s why the album’s called Bridge The Gap. With Wayne playing 7 string guitar we created some low, heavy modern sounds. Since I play and experiment on a regular basis, I always have some new, fresh sparks to share when I record a new album. I am inspired from within. It’s infinite like a kaleidoscope.
Continues Schenker – “As former members of the Scorpions, Herman, Francis and I have been out of the loop of rock’n’roll for quite a while. Getting together for the first time since the Lovedrive album is an incredible jump. We’re connecting the past with the present. We’re bridging the gap.”

A couple of months ago, when my good friend Ryo Vie was in town, we did what most rabid music fans do. We went binge shopping at the local Cincinnati music stores. While rummaging through one of my favorite local haunts, Shake It Records, I stumbled upon the band Brand New Machine. Shake it Records had a listening station where I could hear the CD, The Devil Made Me Do It. After listening to the first three songs, I knew I wasn’t leaving the store without buying this CD.
I was dumbfounded that I didn’t know about this band already. I thought maybe I overlooked a press release, or got them mixed up with another band. Lets face it, there is Brand New, New Medicine, Machinehead, Brand New Sin, and several other bands with similar sounding names. Brand New Machine sets themselves apart by offering fans a classic sound with a modern twist. On The Devil Made Me Do It, I can hear a mix of KISS, Guns N’ Roses and maybe a little bit of Foo Fighters. This is one of those releases that you can listen to from beginning to end without the need to skip tracks. Their sound really works, and there isn’t a bad song on the CD.
Once I opened the CD booklet, I quickly discovered that Brand New Machine’s guitarist is none other than Michael Thomas. The same Michael Thomas who I have seen play with Faster Pussycat and Beautiful Creatures in the past. Not only does the band have a kickass guitar player, but they have one of the best new hard rock singers I have heard in a while. Front man, Brantly Thompson delivers the goods with his whiskey stained vocals on The Devil Made Me Do It.
One way or another, I was destined to find this CD, I am glad that I did. I love this disc, and I am pretty sure you will too!

10. What Do I Gotta Do
11. Let Me Go

Of his forthcoming new album, Sebastian Bach commented, “I am happy to say we have completed the drums and most of the bass guitar for the new record. It is a pleasure to write songs with Duff, Steve, Bob, and Devin. The album will be mastered by Tom Baker who has mastered my last three albums. This CD will be balls-out, in-your-face high-energy rock ‘n roll which just so happens to be my favorite style of music. I look forward to releasing the record and playing these songs live for you all in 2014!”
Sebastian managed to involve in the writing and recording some very special friends and guest stars, including none other than: Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver, Guns n’Roses), and not one but two top class guitar players: John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie) and Steve Stevens (Billy Idol). Rounding up the lineup on the album are Devin Bronson on guitars and Bobby Jarzombek on drums. Duff and Sebastian have previously collaborated on Duff’s solo album “Believe In Me”.
In the meantime Sebastian has made available a new live video clip of “Big Guns” taken from the recent Live DVD/CD package ABACAHALYPSE NOW released last March on Frontiers. This is the 3rd video from ABACHALYPSE NOW and is now available at Sebastian Bach’s Official YouTube Page. The DVD/CD set includes Bach’s recent explosive performances from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles (originally broadcasted on AXS TV in North America), Hellfest in France, Graspop in Belgium and more. Follow this link to enjoy.
Sebastian Bach has sold in excess of 20 million records worldwide as lead singer with his former band, Skid Row and as a solo artist. Far from just being a multi-platinum recording artist, the singer/songwriter/actor/entertainer has expanded his career over the past decade to include episodic television with a 5-season recurring role on the CW’s hit series “Gilmore Girls”, starring roles on Broadway (“Jekyll & Hyde”, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”) and national touring companies (“Jesus Christ Superstar”), and has appeared regularly on MTV and VH1.

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 This is the bible verse from which Stryper takes it name. And Stryper brought their healing power in the form of awesome rock n’ roll to the BMI Karts Indoor Speedway in Versailles, Ohio last Saturday (9/28/13).
It was far too long since I have seen Stryper perform live, and I was quite to excited to see the band perform once again. The last time I saw Stryper was at the 2012 M3 Rock Festival. They were excellent then, and even better this time around.
Aside from some minor struggles with the band’s monitors, Stryper forged on and never sounded better. Stryper’s set was a heavy one. Their set list included the songs “To Hell With The Devil”, “Soliders Under Command”, “The Rock That Makes Me Roll”, “Calling On You”, “The Way”, “Free”, “Loud N’ Clear”, “Heaven & Hell” & “Shout It Out Loud”. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t do “In God We Trust”, or “Honestly”, and I was really hoping to hear some songs off of their up and coming CD, No More Hell To Pay.
It was a short intimate set from Stryper, in a very unique and cool venue. I was quite glad that a made the trip to see the band play, and hope they return for another show after the new album has been released.
Metal Church “Generation Nothing” marks the bands 10th full length studio release and boasts the return to the band’s classic metal sound, says founding member Kurdt Vanderhoof, “It has elements of both the first album and the “The Dark”, but still embraces the new sound of the band without chasing the past.”
Born out of the West Coast Metal scene in the 80’s, Metal Church quickly became one of the standout talents of their genre. The band’s first release simply entitled “Metal Church” postured the band as one of the pioneers of the thrash/metal scene, while their sophomore release “The Dark” was championed as one of the premier metal releases of the 80’s.
Now with the current band’s line up, Kurdt Vanderhoof (guitar), Ronny Munroe (vox), Jeff Plate (drums), Rick Van Zandt (guitar) and Steve Unger on bass, “Generation Nothing” combines the best elements of the band’s early roots with modern day lyrical content and a revived hunger that delivers an electric assault of anthemic & epic metal songs! Videos for “Generation Nothing” and “Dead City” are currently in the post production stage and a world tour is in the works for 2014. Official release date for “Generation Nothing” is scheduled for October 22, 2013.

Most of you may not be familiar with Butch Walker, and that’s a shame. Yet, it is also understandable. He’s never had a huge radio hit that would push him into the category of one hit wonder. He’s never had an album that was over commercialized and everyone knew. He’s never had negative press that would help push his name into houses of every music fan. Butch Walker is just a regular guy working to pay bills and support his family. The only difference is that his work is music.
These days, Butch Walker may be more known for the bands he has produced (Fall Out Boy, Pink) than for his own music, but make no mistake, Walker is still a musician first. The documentary that I recently watched, Butch Walker: Out Of Focus, discusses that and so much more as it provides a private interior view of a hard rock musician balancing family life, reaching middle age, and still pushing forward his artistic creativity.
Out Of Focus is not just a typical documentary on a rock musician. This poignant look inside one man’s life also has deep insight into father’s relationships with sons, balancing artistic creativity with family needs, and understanding how truly supportive a partner needs to be in order for a marriage to a rock musician to work. Some of the best moments captured on the screen were interviews with Butch Walker’s wife, who admitted that she would never want to compete with his art. She understands that their relationship is not going to have the “normal” family life of come home from work, have dinner, and tuck the kids into bed. She understands it and she accepts it.
Other touching moments in the documentary centered on Butch Walker’s relationship with his son as well as his relationship with his own father and how the two travel down similar paths. The mythos of the name “Butch Walker” is revealed in a very heartfelt moment, and it is easy to see how Walker’s father was always his number one supporter. Walker hopes to be just as supportive to his son as his father was to him. Scenes with Butch and son are well filmed and realistic, as at one point we get to witness Butch’s son complain about having to take a bath. The realism in this documentary is what really makes it special.
Walker started out in a late 80s metal band Southgang before forming The Marvelous 3 and then moving on to a magnificent, albeit not well known, solo career. I first discovered Butch Walker when The Marvelous 3 released Ready, Sex, Go as “Sugarbuzz” was receiving a lot of airplay on my local radio station. After hearing the song a couple of times, I knew that I had to have that album. When I purchased it, I was not disappointed and it provided me a new band to fall in love with. From that point on I continued to follow Walker’s career, not just as a musician, but as a producer as well.
If you have never listened to a Butch Walker record, I highly recommend that you start with his solo album Left Of Self Centered. After that, I would recommend Ready, Sex, Go by The Marvelous 3. Both are amazing records that you can easily get hooked on. After that, there are several albums to check out, including a double live disc. As for learning more about Butch Walker, check out the documentary Butch Walker: Out Of Focus. It is a fantastic documentary that not only captures the life of Butch Walker, but gives an insider look at a working musician and the struggles they lead as they try to make money on their art.
