The Maryland Jockey Club today announced at a news conference in the Terrace Dining Room at Pimlico Race Course that it is redefining the Infield experience on Preakness day, May 16, 2009. Preakness InfieldFEST will feature a concert with three rock performances, including Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top and Grammy-nominated Buckcherry, along with a pro volleyball tournament and an interactive section prior to the running of the $1 million Preakness® Stakes (Grade I). A new Infield (including the Infield’s Top of the Stretch seating area) policy on alcohol and all beverages will be implemented for the 134th event, the middle jewel of racing’s Triple Crown.
“The Preakness Stakes is the biggest single-day sporting event in the state with attendance figures exceeding 100,000 nine of the last 10 years, including eight straight,” said Maryland Jockey Club president and chief operating officer Tom Chuckas. “In 100 days, the best three-year-old horses will be in Baltimore and we feel it is time for our public Infield customers to enjoy a new way to party. In this year of change it is now time to transform the Preakness Infield experience.”
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, ZZ Top is considered by many to be the premiere party band on the planet. Formed in Houston in 1969, the band still features its original three members: guitarist Billy F Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. The band’s catalog of iconic hits includes such songs as “La Grange,” “Tush”, “Sharp Dressed Man”, “Legs” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and reflects its Texas roots. Their hirsute look, as seen in a string of hit videos at the dawn of the MTV era, has made ZZ Top one of the world’s most instantly recognizable groups over the course of the past 40 hard rocking years.
Dubbed the Next Great American Rock Band, the Multi-Platinum, Grammy-nominated Buckcherry is touring in support of their fourth album, Black Butterfly, which was named iTunes Rock Album of the Year and has produced three multi-format hits including “Don’t Go Away” and “Rescue Me”. The band’s first Top 10 single, “Sorry”, hit the Hot 100 Billboard chart in 2008. The Los Angeles-based band is currently co-headlining a North American arena tour with Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach and Saving Abel.
A third band will be added to the lineup at a later date.
BLACK WATER RISING, the New York-based band featuring former members of STEREOMUD, BOILER ROOM and DUST TO DUST, will release its self-titled debut album on April 7.
“Black Water Rising” is a collection of soul-baring, angst-ridden, riff-heavy material that is proudly anchored in the foundations of traditional hard rock songwriting. Its giant, guitar-driven monster riffs are served up on a bed of crushing grooves with soaring melodic vocals and big hooks. Basically, no-frills riff rock!
Lyrically, the message is socially and politically driven by the dark times we live in. With darkness seemingly growing by the day, BLACK WATER RISING is a name that fits this band like a glove.
After releasing two self-produced albums nationwide with a band called DUST TO DUST, singer songwriter Rob Traynor locked himself away for two years in his Brooklyn, New York recording studio, later emerging with a collection of songs that would become the seeds of BLACK WATER RISING.
Traynor is joined by former BOILER ROOM drummer Mike Meselsohn, former STEREOMUD guitarist Johnny Fattoruso and bassist Oddie McLaughlin.
“After Rob’s last project, he sat down and started writing songs,” saysFattoruso. “Mike was in BOILER ROOM, which had gone belly-up. Robcalled him up and said, ‘Hey, I’ve got some new stuff, let’s record these songs. They needed another guitar player, and found me via MySpace. I heard two riffs and said, ‘I’m in!’ Oddie and I were in our first band together back in high school. I had gotten back in touch with him, he was still playing. I brought him down to the studio, introduced him to the other guys. I brought him back three times, but the other guys loved him from the start. We wanted to give him a little test, ha!”
BLACK WATER RISING’s 11-song, self-titled debut has received major play (power rotation) on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Octane channel (commercial station) for the song “Brother Go On” and was the #6 album in the Top 20 for October (the only unsigned band on the chart!), #2 most requested phones and in the Top 20 weekly chart many times. The single has grown legs and is still receiving spins and requests 40 weeks later.
“It’s got that raw sound,” says Fattoruso. “It’s in your face, no gimmicks, straight-on hard rock/heavy metal, done the classic way. We wanted to get away from the cookie-cutter bands, back to where music was fun again.”
“I’m very proud of this album, because I think I have finally captured the sound and style I have heard in my head for years and always wanted to get out,” adds Traynor. “I believe BWR will appeal to the rock and metal spectrum. This is the type of band that can share a stage with bands likeBUCKCHERRY and DISTURBED, then play with a PANTERA or SLAYER. If you like rock and metal, new or old school, I believe we have you covered. Our fan base demonstrates this. We have the balls, the riffs and the melody to bring it.”
The band worked with director Noah Shulman (SOIL, THE AUTUMN OFFERING) on an MTV-quality music video for their song “Brother Go On” which has been getting stellar reviews on YouTube, MySpace and other media sites.
BLACK WATER RISING will perform at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn, New York on February 17.
the Quireboys have issued the following update:
“Looks like a busy year… a full U.K. major venue tour will shortly be announced for November/December with at least a couple of festival appearances in the summer. Many festivals being booked in Europe… gigs in Germany, Italy, Scandanavia and France will shortly be announced. There are also plans to record an acoustic album and also a live acoustic concert DVD.”
EMI Records last year released “The Best Of” from the Quireboys, a double CD of material from the band’s EMI-era recordings. It contains many previously unreleased tracks and rarities and is available at a budget price.
The Quireboys’ latest album, “Homewreckers & Heartbreakers”, was made available in stores in June 2008 via Townsend Records. The CD was mixed at Good Luck studios in London with Mark Wallis, who has previously worked with Travis and U2. According to a posting on the group’s web site, “this album sees the band returning to their roots with a more varied selection of styles than ‘Well Oiled’ .”
“Homewreckers & Heartbreakers” was also considered by HRH as being one of the best albums released in 2008.
You can check out live videos from the DVD and tracks from “Homewreckers & Heartbreakers” at www.myspace.com/thequireboys

The official tracklisting and running times for Murder by Pride. It is as follows:
‘Eclipse Of The Son’ (4:04)
‘4 Leaf Clover’ (3:42)
‘Peace Of Mind’ (3:58)
‘The Plan’ (3:10)
‘Murder By Pride’ ((3:18)
‘I Believe’ (3:43)
‘Run In You’ (4:15)
‘Love Is Why’ (4:07)
‘Mercy Over Blame’ (4:07)
‘My Love’ (3:14)
About the album, frontman Michael Sweet commented recently: “After years of speaking to fans and hearing comments like ‘more guitars’, ‘more solos’ and ‘more screams’, I decided to keep those comments in mind as I wrote each song. It was important to me to try to get back to that early sound of Stryper yet at the same time, to remain relevant today. It’s certainly not an easy thing to do but as I listen to Murder By Pride, I think that was accomplished.
I got the idea of the title Murder By Pride from seeing pride consume dreams, goals and many times, lives. We all deal with pride and it can be crippling, so I wanted to write a lyric and a theme that would be a constant reminder of that. This record has been in the works for a long, long time and I can only hope that it was worth the wait!”

Sometimes an album is like a punch in the gut to me the very first time I hear it and I have to pick myself up off the floor afterwards. But then other times it takes an album a while before it finally hits me, which was the case with Eden’s Curse “Second Coming”. I love their debut album, I still think it is a pretty amazing album so I was definitely stoked about getting “Second Coming” when it was released. But after getting the album and several listens I was disappointed because it didn’t hit me like their debut, in fact it took almost 4 months before “Second Coming” hit me, but once it did WOW!!! What an amazing album this turned out to be it is filled with excellent well written songs. I already knew vocalist Michael Eden is a phenomenal singer from the debut but he really kicked it up a couple of notches on “Second Coming”. The band which also consist of guitarist Thorsten Koehne, keyboards from Ferdy Doernberg, bassist Paul Logue, and drummer Pete Newdeck are all exceptional musicians but Koehne in particular puts on a guitar playing showcase on this album which is absolutely jaw dropping.
After a short intro titled “Reign of Terror” everything is kicked off by “Masquerade Ball” and right out of the gates there is no holding Koehne back who absolutely blisters this song with his playing along with Newdeck on drums. If there was ever a song to practice your air guitar to or maybe your best metal singer stance while lip syncing with a hair brush this would be the song, absolutely awesome.
“Angels & Demons” follows and it is a duet with Pamela Moore (A.K.A. Sister Mary from Operation: Mindcrime) and it definitely lives up to the album’s pre-release hype. One again there is no holding Koehne or Newdeck back, but truth be told everyone absolutely shines on this song. Eden and Moore are terrific trading lyrics back and forth, I don’t understand how Pamela Moore is not a better known name on her own as she more than holds her own with Eden.
“Just Like Judas” has a heavy thumping groove to it that makes it impossible not to tap your foot along. It also has a great sing a long chorus where Eden’s vocals really shine as once again so does Koehne’s guitar.
“Sail On” is a mid tempo rocker that was my first punch in the gut for “Second Coming”. Awesome song that will have lighters and cell phones around the world lighting up when it is played live. Ferdy Doernberg’s keyboards really set this song off without overpowering it. Definitely my favorite song on this album.
“Lost in Wonderland” was my second punch in the gut and this heavy rocker is another awesome example of the band’s songwriting skills and a great groove from the rhythm section of Newdeck and Logue.
With 13 tracks on this album there is not one song I would consider filler material but some of the other stand out tracks on “Second Coming” are the ballad “Man Against The World”, a mid tempo rockers “West Wind Blows” and “Lost Soul”, and definitely the album’s closer “Ride The Storm”.
I have always heard good things come to those that wait, I am glad I waited for that first punch from Eden’s Curse “Second Coming” it is definitely worth the wait.
When 2009 wraps up this album will be on my best of list and I really wouldn’t be surprised if it was my album of the year. Any hard rock fan out there should have this album in their collection.
1. Reign Of Terror (Intro)
2. Masquerade Ball
3. Angels & Demons
4. Just Like Judas
5. Sail On
6. Lost In Wonderland
7. West Wind Blows
8. Signs Of Your Life
9. Man Against The World
10. Raven’s Revenge
11. Lost Soul
12. Games People Play
13. Ride The Storm
Eden’s Curse is:
Michael Eden – Vocals
Thorsten Koehne – Guitars
Paul Logue – Bass
Ferdy Doernberg – Keyboards
Pete Newdeck – Drums
In a recent interview with Badmouthers Chris LeMon and Randy Joy the Swedish band Marvel came up during the conversation, so of course I had to investigate. What I found out about Marvel is hard to explain. With the sound of 70’s glam mixed with 90’s garage and every imaginable influence between the two Marvel have an original sound and are definitely a band hard to classify into one genre.
This trio from Linkoping, Sweden actually got together here in the U.S. when members John Steen, Ulrik Bostedt and Tony Samuelsson met in 2002 were all exchange students in Colorado. After releasing three singles the band put out their first album “Five Smell City” in ’05 and followed that with an e.p. “Unleashed” in ’06.
The masked musicians newest album “Thunderblood Heart” has been available worldwide since Feb. ’08. You can check out their version of high energy rock ‘n roll at www.myspace.com/marveltheband or by visiting http://www.marvel.nu
You can also purchase “Five Smell City”, “Unleashed”, and “Thunderblood Heart” on I-Tunes.
Words can not do this band justice, Marvel is a band that must be heard to be understood and appreciated.

His partners in the project, Nehst Studios, have put out an open casting call through www.screentest.biz to be a part of the film starring Snider and Robert Englund (Freddie Kruger of the Nightmare On Elm Street series).
“We are conducting a national casting call to find actors and extras to be in the film with Dee,” explains Nehst head Larry Meistrich. “This is the best way for people to audition. The goal of this talent search is to give aspiring actors access to participate and work on a really high-profile project.”
“It’s like a national outreach project,” explains Snider. “We will be looking for talent in the body modification and fetish world. Everywhere I go now, every guy and girl with tattoos and big holes in their ears wants to be in my movie!”
Parts of Strangeland: Disciple will take place in a secret society whose inhabitants party hard and strange at an aptly-named dungeon called The Torture Garden. “It’s a hardcore body modification and fetish scene, filled with all kinds of freaks,” Snider says of the venue. “We’re shooting for an NC-17 rating right out of the box. I want enthusiasts from all over the country to be a part of it!”

According to BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN’s Italian Promoter, Bruce Springsteen and AC/DC are set to be the headliners at this year’s Hyde Park Calling.
According to Teletext, Springsteen’s Italian promoter has confirmed that “The Boss” will headline the annual event on June 28th with AC/DC topping the bill on June 27th. It’s also expected that Springsteen will headline Glastonbury on June 27th which is the Saturday night.
As previously reported, according to Ryan Clark from Wrestling-edge.com, during a recent appearance at the 36th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference, Linda McMahon announced that rock and roll icons AC/DC will be performing the theme to Wrestlemania XXV, which is scheduled to take place on April 5th, 2009 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
There’s no word yet on what song will be used as the theme.
Vince McMahon is said to be a huge fan of AC/DC, getting his first exposure to the band back in 2000 when they were performing on Saturday Night Live the night Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hosted the show for the first time.
My plan in 2009 is to release 2 CD’s if possible. One will be the CD I am working on with Jeffrey Steele & Vicky McGehee, the team that
brought you ‘Battle With The Bottle”. The other CD will be a straight up hard ass rocker , the follow up to ‘Angel Down’. I plan on writing
this record with my band , Roy Z hopefully, & definately Jamey Jasta of the band Hatebreed. Jamey & I are getting together this
month to record some demos. I am not going to make a Hatebreed record, I am going to work on material with Jamey that will be heavy &
anthemic but still make sense next to the other CD’s I have done.
I am also planning on releasing a new DVD in 2009. Can’t go into the details quite yet, but there will be more hi quality live DVD material
coming your way this year, a la ‘Roadrage’. Looks like I will be starting work on the new DVD this month.
Don’t get confused by me doing a ‘country’ album & a ‘rock’ album at the same time. I have
always hated labels. What I have learned over my lifetime is , I don’t make decisions for my voice, my voice makes decisions for me. I have to get out of the way of my own voice so it can be heard loud & clear.
My only objective in making CD’s is to make them ‘good’. Hopefully these 2 new CD’s will fall into this category !
All the best & hope to see you on the road again sometime soon!
HOLLYWOOD, CA – (January 26, 2009) – Hailing from the bowels of Canada, MENDOZZA will release an ear-splitting new album to the U.S. March 17th on Reversed Records.

Devoted MENDOZZA fans are worldwide with the help of the release of their song “Eternal Battle” on the Underworld II Soundtrack.

Here is the simple truth, any band that has the balls to cover David Allan Coe’s “The Ride” is going to get my attention. I am either going to laugh and then curse the band for screwing up one of the best songs in the history of music or I am going to sit in awe and applaud the band for delivering a worthy version. Fortunately for Columbus Ohio’s Snowblynd I am applauding them, not only do they deliver a worthy version, they deliver a killer version. Now until a week ago I had never heard the term “Motor City Dixie”, but it is fast becoming my favorite saying thanks to Snowblynd. These guys maybe from the midwest but they know how to play some great southern rock. Vocalist Brad Williams, guitarists Gregory Wylde and Smitty, along with bassist Joe Viers, drummer Barry Damron, and on Hammond B3 Organ Nate “Ass” Hollman sound like they walked right out of the swamps and into the rock n roll spotlight on their ’07 release “Dirty Water”.
After hearing “Dirty Water”, “Little Miss Misery”, and “Blood, Guts, & Gasoline” on the bands’ myspace page I knew I had to buy this album and damn was I glad I did. It is filled with some damn good sleazy Southern rock from beginning to end and Snowblynd are not afraid to wear their influences on their sleeve. The Black Crowes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, a little Buckcherry, it is all here on “Dirty Water” not only with the four songs I’ve already mentioned but also on tracks like “Carry On”, “Lust N’ Liquor”, “Cryin’ Shame”, “She Believed” & “One Time Ain’t Enough”. There is not one disappointing song on “Dirty Water”, it has me already looking forward to the next Snowblynd album. Hopefully I won’t have to wait long.
You can check the band out at http://www.myspace.com/snowblynd
You can also purchase “Dirty Water” at CDBaby.com http://cdbaby.com/cd/snowblynd
It is also available at I-Tunes.
Snowblynd is one band fans of Southern rock do not want to miss out on.

On Monday, January 19th, Zakk Wylde’s father died peacefully following surgical complications. The following is a statement from Zakk regarding his passing:
My father, Jerome F. Wielandt who served as an inspiration to me and my music throughout my life has passed away. His influence on my life and the life of others has motivated me in ways that have been both unexpected and profound. My father spent his youth as a orphan in New Jersey who was subsequently drafted to serve his country. A World War II veteran, he participated in the events of D-Day at Omaha Beach as well as Normandy. My father meant more than the world to me, and his passing will no doubt influence my direction in life and career as this new year continues to unfold. I am asking fans to allow time for me and my family to grieve in private.
In lieu of flowers, our family would like donations made in Jerome F. Wielandt’s memory to:
DEBORAH HEART AND LUNG CENTER

Lastly, 1919 Eternal was dedicated to dad, and is my legacy to this unique individual I owe nearly everything to. I shall let that album stand the test of time to his greatness.
That Metal Show – VH1 Classic’s new metal-themed 30-minute talk show hosted by Eddie Trunk – will be featuring Boston rockers EXTREME on February 18th. The band are extending a special, complimentary ticket offer to fans. Email email@example.com for more info.
The band’s first studio album in thirteen years, “Saudades de Rock” (pronounced “sow-dodge”) was released in the U.S. on August 12, 2008 on Open E Records and distributed by Fontana. The European version of the CD, which came out on August 1, includes a bonus track, the “Americocaine” demo from 1985, the very first studio recording of the band. The new album sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 78 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD entered the UK chart at position No. 80.
The iconic rock foursome — vocalist Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo — recorded their fifth studio offering at NRG Studios in Los Angeles with Bettencourt at the helm as producer and mixer. “Saudades de Rock” boasts 13 tracks, including the infectious roar of “Star”, the groove-laden, swagger of “King Of The Ladies”, a raw funk rock anthem called “Learn To Love”, and the expressive ballad “Ghost”.
Extreme are planning to continue their Take Us Alive World Tour in support of the new album. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt recently commented: “It’s not easy coming back after so long. But you gave us a hell of a welcome back party in every city and more importantly an incredible boost of confidence. We couldn’t have gone into The UK and Europe and Asia without the love that you showed for us here at home. Being the first audiences to connect with… you basically had the responsibility to get us to believe in ourselves once again. And we are deeply indebted to you. Our fans. Hopefully we can reconnect with you in the New Year to thank you in person. And once again… we haven’t forgotten about you in Australia, S. America, Canada, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and everywhere else that we will try to reach.”
“That Metal Show” features hosts Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine (“Crank Yankers”, “Inside the NFL”, “Meet The Creeps”) and Don Jamieson (“Inside The NFL”, “Dice Undisputed”, “Meet The Creeps”) discussing the latest rock news, share stories and arguing about their favorite bands. Each week they are joined by special guests who weigh in with their opinions and offer their own unique viewpoints to each episode.

For a station near you and for information regarding how to log onto the Internet for the broadcast go to RocklineRadio.com.
American Soldier – due out due this spring from Rhino/Atco – finds Queensrÿche once again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into this epic tale. American Soldier examines American wars from World War II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the frontlines.
“Queensrÿche has always had incredible support from members of the Armed Services,” says Tate. “It seems like after every show, I’d end up speaking with a fan that was or had been involved with the military. The more and more I began to hear their accounts and feelings, the more I really felt a conviction to tell their story. Over the last two years, I’ve conducted dozens of one-on-one interviews with veterans of many different American wars. I listened to their amazing and moving recounts and did my best to examine war through their eyes.”

Former ACCEPT/BANGALORE CHOIR and current GYPSY ROSE frontman David Reece is currently recording his first solo album under the banner REECE. Due in early 2009 via AOR Heaven, the CD is being produced byAndy Susemihl (U.D.O.) and will feature Jochen Funders from HOLY MOSES on guitar and bass, and Stefan Schwarzmann (ACCEPT,HELLOWEEN, KROKUS, RUNNING WILD, U.D.O.) on drums.
In other news, Reece has laid down vocals for a track on the upcoming “Voices Of Rock” album, a collaboration between German producers Chris Lausmann (BONFIRE, FRONTLINE, JADED HEART) and Michael Voss (CASANOVA, MAD MAX, SILVER).
After several years under the radar on a ranch in Montana, Reece was contacted by Escape Records in 2007 to see what the chances would be for him to go to Sweden to sing on Swedish band GYPSY ROSE’s next release. Soon after that David found himself in the studio for the next year recording and writing for the new GYPSY ROSE CD, “Another World”, which was released in June 2008.

TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider will reprise his role as Captain Howdy in the 1998 cult horror classic “Strangeland” when“Strangeland: Disciple” goes into production later this year.
Snider wrote and co-produced the original film in 1994, pre-dating the cinematic vogue for torture film franchises like “Saw” and “Hostel”. “At the time, I really wanted to re-invent the wheel of horror,” Dee says. “Horror, traditionally, plays on people’s fears of being chased and dying. That’s totally played out. When you’re being chased, there’s the chance of escape. When you die, there’s peace. What’s much worse than being chased and dying is being helpless and suffering.”
“Strangeland” is the story of a schizophrenic sexual sadist who lures victims via the Internet, forcing them to submit to ancient tribal rituals. “I came up with the idea of Internet crime before anybody had ever committed Internet crime,” says Snider. “And if I am the father of torture films, I’ve got to come back like a sledgehammer to reclaim my crown!” To that end, “Strangeland: Disciple” will come complete with an NC-17 rating right out of the box. Obviously, Snider ain’t kidding around.“Strangeland: Disciple” promises to be ultra-intense, taking place in the underworld of body modification fetishists, amid the secret sado-masochistic freak societies of perverted pleasures that lurk just underneath the veneer of respectable society.
“Strangeland” was produced in conjunction with The Shooting Gallery, the studio for “Sling Blade” and “Croupier”. Larry Meistrich, formerly ofThe Shooting Gallery, now operates Nehst Pictures and says, “I am very excited to be back in business with Dee Snider again! ‘Strangeland’was a great experience and I know the sequel is going to be better than the original. In these days of various platforms merging, it is great to be able to work with someone like Dee who is so multi-faceted.”
The 1998 soundtrack included an incredible array of bands — SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SEVENDUST, SOULFLY, SLIPKNOT, KID ROCK, COAL CHAMBER, TWISTED SISTER, MEGADETH, MARILYN MANSON and PANTERA — handpicked by Snider. The success of the soundtrack led to a “Strangeland” tour, which Snider hopes to resurrect once again for“Strangeland: Disciple”, in an effort to grace the contours of his demented vision. “Music was intrinsic to me in the first one. We really tried to create the ultimate heavy soundtrack. Music will be important to me again for the sequel,” adds Snider.
Returning for revenge in the sequel is Robert Englund (“Nightmare On Elm Street”‘s Freddie Krueger), who called “Strangeland” a “bona-fide cult hit.” In the original, he played Jackson Roth, one of Captain Howdy‘s victims.

What would you get if John Bush was the lead singer for Corrosion of Conformity and Monster Magnet’s Dave Wyndorf was the lead songwriter?? The answer very well could sound like Columbus OH’s Robot Lords of Toyko. The duo of Rick Ritzler – Drums/Guitar and Paul Jones – Lead Vocals/Guitar have been playing together for almost 15 years and as Robot Lords of Toyko for the last four years. They released their second album “Whiskey, Blood, & Napalm” in Oct ’08 after employing a virtual list of who’s who from the Midwestern rock and metal scene, including Joe Viers (Snowblynd), Beau Van Bibber (Deflagration), Steve Theado (American Dog), Rob Johnson (Magnitude 9/Solo), Steve Pollick (ex-Icarus Witch/Order of Nine), and instrumental guitar great Neil Zaza, among others to record the album. The guys were able to pull of the nearly impossible trick of making an album that sounds like a band album. The songs are all solid and concise from start to finish with the sound of a seasoned band that has more than a couple of tours together under their belts instead of a project put together and played by a dozen or so individuals.
Taking their cue from influences such as Black Sabbath, the aforementioned C.O.C., King’s X, and Motorhead RLoT is not pretty boy music, it is thick, sludgey, heavy in your face music. If you don’t believe me give songs such as “Princess of Hollywood”, “Deathwagon”, or “Burn the Sky” a listen they will make you a believer.
After years of touring the Midwest, “Whiskey, Blood, & Napalm” should be the album that finally gets Robot Lords of Toyko known nationally. You can check them out for yourself at http://www.robotlordsoftokyo.com/. You can preview RLoT music at http://www.myspace.com/robotlords
Their self titled debut and “Whiskey, Blood, & Napalm” are both available for purchase at CDBaby http://cdbaby.com/found?allsearch=Robot+Lords+of+Tokyo&submit=
For the fans of a rifftastic brew of stoner/doom groove anthems with alcohol-fueled riffage, guitar hero shredding, and more groove-metal swagger than you can shake a stick at Robot Lords of Toyko will be right up your alley.
Since this past summer when I started writing reviews here at HRH there has been so much good music that it became impossible to keep up with everything that was being released. Now I am going to try and catch up with some of the albums I missed. I can not think of a better band to start with than H.E.A.T. of course they are another kick ass Swedish band, but where the majority of Swedish bands are following the sleaze glam route H.E.A.T. decided to follow a different path from their counter-parts. This six man band from Stockholm decided to take a more melodic approach to their music in the vein of such bands as Europe, Giant, Unruly Child, Bangalore Choir, and Hardline. There are 13 tracks but 12 actual songs on this album and every one of them are stellar.
Vocalist Kenny Leckremo reminds me a lot of former Unruly Child vocalist Mark Free mixed with Bangalore Choir’s David Reece thrown in with his approach and delivery of the songs. His voice is powerful without being overbearing to the music, I don’t think he has even began to test the limits of his vocal range. The twin guitar attack of Dave Dalone and Eric Rivers also stand out both could stand their own ground against many players both from today and the past. Keyboardist Jona Tee probably made the best impression on me out of anyone in the band simply because he playing is outstanding and it enhances the songs instead of overpowering them which tends to happen quite a lot with melodic rock. Bassist Jimmy Jay and drummer Crash round out the band and are an extremely capable rhythm section that keep everyone else tight and in line.
After a short intro everything gets started with “There For You” which is a great song to kick off the album, as it is a prime example of what H.E.A.T. has in store for the listeners on this album. Straight up perfect arena rock anthem, a great solo from Dave Dalone, and a very solid performance from the rhythm section that will have you tapping your feet and bobbing your head as you sing along. Second track “Never Let Go” follows the same recipe with the same great results.
If H.E.A.T. are able to hit the arenas here in the States “Keep On Dreaming” will have everyone flicking their Bics and lighting up their cell phones for this outstanding anthem. “Follow Me” slows things down a bit with it nice piano entrance before it picks up at the chrous with soaring vocals both lead and background “Straight For Your Heart” is another kick ass song with a great performance from the entire band but drummer Crash really stands out with his playing. “Cry” and “Feel It Again” are two more outstanding songs “Cry” is mid tempo while “Feel It Again” is a more rocking song. “Straight Up” starts out with a slow burning bluesy groove to it before it kicks in at the chrous. “Bring The Stars” besides being my favorite song on the album is another arena ready anthem with a great performance from both Jimmy Jay and Jona Tee.
“You’re Lying” and “Feel The Heat” finish up the album on a very strong note. For any fans of the bands mentioned above this album is an absolute must have but for fans of just straight up arena ready melodic rock you can’t go wrong with purchasing this album either. I got H.E.A.T. to late for them to be included on my best of ’08 but they will definitely be on my best of ’09 list.
