Sandalinas release new album “Fly To The Sun” on January 18th, 2008
Spanish/ Swedish Melodic Metal band SANDALINAS has found a new home on Metal Heaven. Their new CD is called “Fly To The Sun” and next to mainman Jordi Sandalinas also features the great vocal talents of singer Rick Altzi (AT VANCE), Patrik Johansson (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on drums, Mick Cervino (BLACKMORE’s NIGHT) on bass guitar and Elias Holmild (DRAGONLAND) on keyboards. The album furthermore includes various guests such as Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER) on keyboards on the track “Seasons In The Sand” as well as Chris Caffery (SAVATAGE) and Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND) at various guitar solos.
Listen to some advance music:
The tracklist goes as follows:
Fly To The Sun
Never Seen Before
Back From The Light
No Matter What
As The Rain Falls
Ring of Fire
The Wrong Side of Me
Shadows In The Rain
The Healer Talks
Seasons In The Sand
Landing the opening slot for the Poison/Ratt tour has increased their fan base, and the constant touring with groups like Cradle of Filth, CKY and GWAR has exposed the band to a whole new group of listeners.
Is Lit Up/Let Down the best Glam Metal CD that I have heard. No. Not by a longshot, but there are some solid and enjoyable cuts on this disc worth giving it a few spins.
I am a sucker for enhanced CD’s and VOJ’s new disc has the following video, No One’s Gonna Do It For You, and a Making of Video. It is a nice addition for VOJ fans.
I think Lit Up/Let Down is a CD that takes a few listens to get its hooks into you, but once it does, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I hear little bits of Poison, and Guns ‘N Roses fused into their music.
I think Vains of Jenna has loads of potential, and they will definitely be one of the bands carrying the glam metal torch well into the next decade.

I didn’t have a whole lot of expectations for this record to be honest. I have always liked Hanoi Rocks fairly well, but it has been a while since I listened to them with the exception of a song or two.
Once I found out that Electric Boys alumni Conny Bloom and Andy Christell were in this band, I immediately wanted to check out the new album. The Electric Boys are a late 80′s glam band that I thought were extremely under rated, and I knew the addition of Conny and Andy would greatly enhance Hanoi’s sound.
I must say that Street Poetry is a pleasant surprise. This record has more in common with 70′s glam than anything from the 80′s, but that is ok. The songs sound fresh, and most importantly, they rock!
There are plenty of tunes worth talking about here, and there isn’t a stinker in the bunch. My favorites so far are This One’s For Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tootin’ Star, Street Poetry, Fashion and Powertrip. Each and everytime I play this record, I feel the need to play it again. This is a very positive and upbeat feel good type of record.
Street Poetry is without a doubt one of the strongest records of 2007. If you have ever been a fan of Hanoi Rocks before, you need to get this. If you haven’t ever checked them out before, give the tunes on the band’s myspace page a whirl. I guarantee you will want a copy of Street Poetry for yourself afterwards.

Frontiers Records is excited to announce all details related to LEVERAGE highly anticipated second album entitled “Blind Fire”.
Leverage is a Top Level Melodic Metal band which came out of nowhere in 2006, causing a stir with the release of their debut album “Tides”. Their blend of modern metal sound and old school melody-based songwriting earned rave reviews from the media and created a fanbase both in Finland and throughout the rock community in many countries.
One highlight of the ratings was melodicrock.com naming ‘Tides’ as the best Metal/Prog album of 2006, with 2 songs at the top of their heavy rock song listing. The band’s frontman Pekka Heino (also singer for Brother Firetribe) was also named the vocalist of the year!
“The warm welcome for ‘Tides’ was a pleasant surprise for us” says the band’s guitar player and main composer Tuomas Heikkinen. “We got good radio airplay in Finland, even climbed to the charts, all before our very first gig with our own material! Since then, we’ve played throughout Finland at clubs and festivals. Our music has been described as melodic metal or melodic heavy rock, which is fine by us”. Rock and Metal lovers will easily recognize influences from Rainbow, Magnum, Stratovarius and Masterplan with a light Progressive Metal edge.
“We wanted to plan the second album and the second step of our career carefully” continues Heikkinen “ As a big part of that, we were happy to sign with Frontiers. The songs were all written between the release of ‘Tides’ and entering the studio in July 07. Right from the first demos we knew that the second album will be a great step forward for Leverage. Here’s why: we’re tighter as a band, we know what our own style is and what we might be capable of, and we’re busting our butts to make as solid music as we ever can. We recorded and mixed (Torsti Spoof and Jari Mikkola) the album at Studio Audio, Jyväskylä, Finland between the beginning of July and halfway of September. It was mastered at Chartmakers, Helsinki”
“Blind Fire” will be released in Europe (minus Finland) on Frontiers Records on January 25th 2007. The first reactions to the material are enthusiastic and there are already plans for the band to play live outside their homeland.
Tracklisting of “Blind Fire” includes:

“All in all, we are really proud of ‘Blind Fire’” concludes Tuomas Heikkinen. “We worked hard to make the most of the relatively short time between ‘Tides’ and the new one, and we feel we accomplished what we set out to do”.
Frontiers will also release at the same time of the new album a new edition of “Tides” which will also include two exclusive bonus tracks: Superstition (live) and Twilight Symphony (live). Click here to enjoy a sample of “Superstition” from “Tides” !

With so much great sleazy glam rock coming out of Sweden it’s a pleasant change to find something like this coming from the US. I’m not sure where to start with this delicious sleazy offering from Californian band, Dirty Penny. If I compiled a list of my top CDs for 2007 this would be high at the top of that list.
Think Crashdiet leaning more towards the dirty side of sleaze.
Things start off in suitably suggestive style with the first track “Midnight Ride” and follow with tunes that are all perfect slabs of glam rock just the way it should be. At first I thought “Black n’ Blue” was a bit out of place on this, it’s almost jazz rock n’ roll but even that fits. “Vendetta” is probably the cream of the crop. Hell, all of these songs are gems. The disc closes with an acoustic version of Sleeze Disease. It’s a fantastic rendition and sounds like a completely different song to the heavier version.
Binge Daniels has a voice made for this type of music, the backing vocals are massive and the hooks huge.
If you are looking for lyrics that resemble complex rocket science, you won’t find it here. The lyrics are simple and sometimes cheesy, (“Take a Bite” being a classic example of this) but perfect for what this music is about. “Scream and Shout” may be the exception to the cliché lyrics that the rest of the tunes have; but this kind of rock is meant to be mindless, sexy and fun and Dirty Penny deliver exactly that.
Although nothing is perfect, I can’t find a filler or dud song on this. This is worth every Dirty Penny you have and simply a must have for sleaze rock lovers. Absolutely killer.

The New York Post has The Cult’s – I Assassin, and Endeverafter’s Road to Destruction available as free downloads, now through Friday, November 9th!
Passion For Power is the debut release for this Swedish five piece band.
Hell N’ Diesel has a sound that I would describe as one part Skid Row, another part Guns ‘N Roses, and maybe a dash of Motley Crue and Shotgun Messiah. Even though their sound may represent some of the bigger bands of the late 80′s, I can tell you that Passion For Power is a record that delivers big!
Passion for Power is the kind of album that you want to turn on, and crank the volume up on!
Sweet Sister is a song full of attitude, sleaze and a huge guitar sound. This is the way you open up an album. Awesome!
Any song that has you breaking out the air guitar is usually a good omen. You Shook Me made me break out the Air Les Paul. This is another fun, and upbeat song.
J. Sledge has a guitar sound that mimics Slash heavily on the tune Crosses. This is another catchy, foot tapping good song. Sexual Suicide is sleazy good fun, and another great party rock tune. Fallin’ is a power ballad of massive proportions. Every glam related radio station will be playing this song before long.
Miss Cocaine is a heavy Skid Row type of rocker that is one of the many highlights on this disc. I liked this song the first time I heard it. Wow!…..Attitude flat out kicks ass! This song has a sleazy cock rock feel to it. This is one of my favorites on this record.
S.O.Y.L. or Speed of Your Love, if you prefer, is a song that borrow some elements from Motley Crue, but I don’t care. This song rocks! Love Me Hard has a killer groove and a good beat. This song has a definite 80′s hard rock feel to it, but it is quite infectious.
Ride Away is a sleazy rocker that immediately bring Guns ‘N Roses, Appetite For Destruction to mind. Headbanging is not optional with this track. Sweat It is a ballsy tune that flat out rocks. What a way to close out this disc!
I am a fan of 80′s glam rock, so without question, I love Passion For Power. There are a ton of good hard rock / glam records in 2007. Passion For Power is one of the better ones.
You can land a copy of this disc at Impulse Music.com.

I have known about these Cruefest veterans for quite a while and have listened to them quite a bit over the last couple of years. Most people are surprised when they find out that 30 Seconds Over You is the bands’ fifth release!
To me, 30 Seconds Over You is the band’s best effort yet. My favorite cuts are All-American Catholic Boy, Teenage Drag Queen, Baby Rock Out and Don’t Make Me Make You.
What does the band sound like? Imagine the bastard child of Alice Cooper singing for L.A. Guns. It is a sound that is dirty, sleazy, and most importantly kicks ass! The songs sound even better live!
30 Seconds Over You rocks hard all the way through. The production is top notch, and the band is captured in fine form on every tune!

Joel O’keefe, Ryan O’keefe, David Roads and Justin Street of the Australian band Airbourne gave us THE rock event of the year on Friday November 2nd when the club Sonar and 98ROCK in Baltimore, Maryland hosted a Rock concert that we will certainly never forget!
From the very first chord of “Stand Up” Airbourne let us know that they were going to Rock all 250 of us like we’ve never been Rocked before. And that total Rock assault was such that we were all exhausted from pumping our fists and screaming at the top of our lungs…..when it was over. We fed off Airbourne’s energy as they obviously fed off of ours.
Airbourne lives for and loves to perform. That much is so completely obvious by their constant interaction with the crowd and each other. Rock is Airbourne’s chosen life, and we, the Rock fans of the world, are the beneficiaries!
Their show is non-stop motion! We took a ton of pictures, but they just wouldn’t stand still, so please don’t be too critical…..we did the best that we could.
Doesn’t matter though, because we were there…..we witnessed the greatest new rock show in the world….up close and in personal!
Their set list consisted of “Stand Up”, “Hell Fire”, “Fat City”, “What’s Eating You”, “Girls In Black”, “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast”, “Heartbreaker”, “Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women”, “Runnin’ Wild” and “Black Jack”. Make no mistake here Rock fans…..every song that Airbourne plays is a great song! There are no duds or fillers here! That is not part of Airboune’s nature, they want every song to be perfect and they are!
And, when the set was over, and the crowd started chanting “Airbourne! Airbourne! Airbourne!”….they came back out and played “Ready to Rock” for a fitting encore.
For those of you who already own the non-USA release of Runnin’ Wild, you probably don’t recognize “Hell Fire” or “Ready To Rock”
“Hell Fire” is a new recording that will be put on the USA release coming out in January of 2008. It is replacing “Let’s Ride”.
And “Ready To Rock” if from the 2 year old Australia-only released cd by the same name. Only 1000 of those bad boys were ever pressed, and according to their manager, Gregg Donovan, it will NEVER be re-released! So if you own a copy of “Ready to Rock” hang on to it for dear life, and if you find a copy of “Ready to Rock” on Ebay….Good Luck Trying To Buy It! Talk about rare!
Airbourne is a “Must See” show for all rock fans. And if you are reading this and you are not a Rock fan….go to their show and you will instantly be an Airbourne fan, guaranteed!
This is Gregg…..he is one of the nicest and most dedicated folks that you will ever meet! He too loves what he does and it shows in his constant, infectious smile and enthusiasm while talking to everyone who wants to learn about Airbourne….(He is second from left)
Sadly, this is Airbourne’s last performance in the USA for this year. They are traveling back to Australia almost immediately.
But wait, this is also good news in that the reason they are going home is to pack! That’s right…..we said pack! They are moving to New Jersey in January! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!
And to all you folks in New Jersey……if you feel the ground start to shake some evening….not to worry….it is just the boys practicing for their next show…..Airbourne may just be coming to a town near YOU!
After the show, and after we got to talk to the band and get a few pictures, we met Ron Burman of Roadrunner Records. He is the man who signed Airbourne and will be responsible for their USA release. We got to listen as he and Gregg talked marketing tactics and strategies. And when they started talking about merchandise, Ron said that there should be an Airbourne tube-top produced for the women. After hearing that we’re guessing that Airbourne is going to be solely responsible for the elusive tube-top coming back into vogue! Every female on the planet is gonna want one!
(Sidebar – Ron is also responsible for signing Nickelback….How’s that for credentials?)
We’d like to thank Stash of 98Rock for coming to the show and introducing the band.
We did not get to meet or talk to Stash, but we did have the pleasure of tuning in to his afternoon show (once we got in broadcast range) and listened to the last part of his live interview with Joel and Ryan. The part that we listened to did not cover much of the music aspects of the band, but did touch on sports. Such as the sports of Australia and the USA and their differences. Football was the primary subject and their comments were hilarious. Aussie humor ROCKS!
Stash also were asked why they were moving to the USA, and that answer was one for the ages…..It turns out that 21 of the 25 most poisonous snakes in the world live in Australia. What better reason would they need to move? LOL
This was a great show and we were lucky enough to put ourselves in position to take some fair photos. This link will take you to the whole sequence from the show…
If you would like to learn more about Airbourne you can go to these links…
Lastly, we’d like to give a big Shout Out to Shawn and Kim, fellow Pennsylvanians who made the trek to Baltimore and Rocked out side by side with us all night. Hope you two made it home safely!
Fellow Rockers….go see an Airbourne show! Airbourne will ROCK your world!!!!!
And be sure to buy their cd from Roadrunner Records when it is released in January! It’s the next best thing to being there!
Special Thanks to Bic & Que for this superb Airbourne recap!
Burn’s style of melodic hard rock sounds like a cross between Whitesnake and Gotthard. The musicianship on Global Warning is second to none.
The first that that impressed me was the guitar playing by Julian Nicholas. Nicholas adds plenty of ear pleasing solos all throughout Global Warning. His fret work is well complimented by the rhythm guitar of Phil Hammond and the keyboards of Barney Stackhouse.
This is the first Burn album that I have heard, and I am extremely impressed with the tunes that I have heard here. This is my first experience hearing Jeff Ogden sing . I believe he has one of the best undiscovered voices rock.
By the time this review is finished, I will be seeking out the band’s first two releases So Far So Bad, and Spark To A Flame.
What Burn has managed to do is craft eleven nearly perfect melodic rock tracks. This is a CD that will be played over and over at the Hard Rock Hideout. Burn joins the likes of Sacred Heart, and Redline with superb rock discs from the United Kingdom in 2007. Don’t miss this!

Quite a few fans are upset over the sound of Kittie’s new song, Funeral For Yesterday.
Kittie is a metal band that usually enlists the screaming of singer Morgan Lander. On this album, she uses her pure singing voice, as well as some metalcore like screams.
Which one do you prefer?
Watch the video and let us know what you think!
Crashdïet’s debut effort Rest in Sleaze from 2005, is a disc that I consider one of the best releases in this new era of glam.
The band hit a few bumps in the road after the debut disc. Original singer Dave Lepard took his own life in 2006. The band was without their singer who helped them craft one amazing CD.
They eventually found a replacement with singer Olliver Twisted from the Finnish band Reckless Love, and forged ahead to create new music.
On “Unattractive Revolution” the band got a helping hand from Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars on a couple of tracks, which immediately raised the bar for this record somewhat. So the $25,000 question is, has Crashdïet hit the sophomore slump, or have they surpassed their debut disc.
I wasn’t immediately impressed with “In the Raw”, as much as I was with some of the bands previous tunes. Successive listens to this song found me in foot tapping euphoria. Watch the video yourself, and see what you think!
“Like a Sin” grabbed me immediately. This is the type of song that you want to get into your car and drive…..FAST!
“Falling Rain” is the first song from this album that I thought Crashdïet could have a hit with. This song has definite radio potential.
“I Don’t Care” is the first cut featuring Mick Mars. This is a high speed rocker that kicks ass. This song proves to me that Mr. Mars still rocks. The song itself is catchy, cool, and to this listener pure bliss!
“Die Another Day” is another extremely catchy tune that you will find yourself singing along with.
“Alone” is the second track with Mick Mars. This is a mid tempo track that sounds like it could have been left over from the Corabi era of Mötley Crüe. It is an OK song, but not what I would call essential.
The music on the song “Thrill Me” is pretty good, but this song is missing something. The lyrics just don’t do it for me.
“Overnight” is a move in the right direction. I would have like a little more repetition in the chorus on this song, to make it a little more memorable, but that is just me.
“XTC Overdrive” is one of my favorites on this record. This reminds me of the tunes on Rest In Sleaze quite a bit. “Bound to Be Enslaved” does a pretty good job capturing that Rest in Sleaze style as well.
“The Buried Song” has an almost punk flavor to it. The first song that came to mind when I heard this was Anarchy in the U.K., with a heavier riffs towards the center of the song. Once again, this is another song that is missing something. I can’t quite place my finger on it.
The Bottom line: “The Unattractive Revolution” does not meet or surpass “Rest In Sleaze”. There is no doubt in my mind that Crashdïet can play their asses off. The music is not the problem here. This album could use some stronger song writing. There are a few stand out cuts worth checking out. The album starts pretty strong, but starts to taper off in the middle, and does finish off in a solid fashion. The Unattractive Revolution is a solid record and will appeal to quite a few glam and Crashdïet fans out there.

LA’s Trigger Point has begun pre production on their new album tentatively titled “GIVING UP THE GHOST” with Producer (and Far/Revolution Smile) guitarist Shaun Lopez (Deftones, Will Haven, Demon Hunter) at the helm. Says vocalist Taylor Wallace, “We are all very excited about making this record. It pretty much captures everything we have been through in the last three years. The music is epic to say the least. We have been working on it just about everyday for the last year, and are finally ready to get in the studio and bring it to life.”
The band is set to begin recording on November 3rd at LA’s Bomb Shelter Studios.

Louisville, Kentucky’s Velcro Pygmies have been playing and touring clubs in the south for a few years now.
American Muscle is the band’s second CD, and a pretty good one at that. I can hear some definite Def Leppard and Van Halen influences in the band’s tunes.
Fans of 80′s style hard rock are going to love American Muscle. There isn’t a bad song on the disc. American Muscle is filled with songs that have infectious sing along choruses, and heavy guitar riffs. This is an 80′s style glam metal CD disc that simply delivers!
This CD hasn’t left my playlist since I picked up! This CD reminds of an era where music was supposed to be fun. The Velcro Pygmies may not be original, but they most certainly do 80′s style hard rock right! I think most hard rock fans are going to love this disc.
The band also has a brand new website, VelcroPygmies.com. Go check them out, you will be glad you did!

Metal Blade Records has just inked a deal with Bay Area thrashers Hatchet! Hatchet is an onslaught of 5 thrash metal fanatics from the San Francisco Bay Area; a starting point for infamous thrash bands like METALLICA, EXODUS, TESTAMENT, and VIO-LENCE just to name a few. Formed by Julz on guitar and Slave behind the drum kit in January 2005, Hatchet was started as the two were fed up with the stale metal scene in their home town. Their desire to create music filled with substance and driving aggression would be enough to help revive a genre that had slowly began to fade away over the years in their hometown.Hatchet will be playing various one off dates until they release their new album in spring/summer 2008 and will then be on a heavy touring schedule. Head over to the band’s MySpace page to check out some tracks to get a taste of what’s to come!
“It is an honor to be working with Metal Blade, and to be a part of the legacy of amazing artists they have worked with over the years! Together we will help bring Thrash Metal back to the top where it belongs!” – Hatchet
“In a time where thrash is making an awesome comeback, we are stoked to be working with bands that are a part of the rebirth. These guys are young, ruthless and talented and we can’t wait till they rock you like its 1984!” – Metal Blade.

I have been looking forward to the new Lizzy Borden disc for a while. As soon as I seen some of the guest musicians giving Lizzy a hand on this disc (George Lynch, Dave Meniketti, Ira Black), I knew without a doubt I would pick this up. There hasn’t been a ton of hype about this release, so my only hope going in, is that Appointment With Death with this record is that it would surprass the last Lizzy Borden effort, Deal With The Devil.
In 2007, Lizzy Borden returns with a new band, and a brand new look that will scare your grandparents.
Appointment With Death is a concept album, but that shouldn’t scare you away. This release is pure heavy metal.
Lizzy’s voice hasn’t changed one bit. He can still hit those high pitched notes with ease. He is in fine vocal form on this record. Ira Black’s guitar work is a definite upgrade for this Lizzy Borden fan’s ears. His chugging guitar riffs combined with Marten Anderssen’s heavy bass work, and Joey Scott’s excellent skin bashing seem to compliment each other quite well.
There are two or three cuts that I couldn’t get into very much but I do have some early favorites. The title track, Appointment With Death, is a hard driving tune that I want to keep playing over and over. Live Forever is a metal beast that is forcing its way into my head whether I like it or not. I am a sucker for guitar solos, and Bloody Tears is a metal anthem that has a lot of excellent guitar work. Tomorrow Never Comes has an Iron Maiden type of guitar sound to it, and has catchy lyrics that get into your head quickly. Under Your Skin is quite possibly the most modern sounding metal track on this record. This is a good song that could have some hit potential. Somethin’s Crawlin is the perfect Halloween Anthem. This song kind of reminds me of something that Alice Cooper would do, and that is quite cool. (We Are) The Only Ones has great sing along quality and neck-snapping, head-banging quality.
Is Appointment With Death Lizzy Borden’s best work? If it isn’t, it is very close! This is the kind of disc that will take multiple listens to fully absorb and appreciate. The songs are well written, and the music is a step above any heavy metal discs that have been released recently. It is a very solid metal offering, and is one that should appeal to Lizzy fans every where. Go Get It!
