Another Animal and Alter Bridge came to Cincinnati Wednesday Night. A late work night kept me from getting to the show on time, and I missed Another Animal all together! I was looking forward to seeing the band featuring Whitfield Crane on vocals. I have listened to Another Animal and Alter Bridge quite a bit as of late, and was also interested in seeing what the AB boys had to offer.
I am very impressed with the new Alter Bridge CD, Blackbird, and I am happy to report that band is doing a ton of songs off of the new disc.
I can’t recall the entire list, but the set list included: Before Tomorrow Comes, Brand New Start, Buried Alive, Broken Wings, Coming Home, Blackbird, White Knuckles and the first time the band has every played Break Me Down live.
The band did an Encore with a Led Zeppelin cover of Traveling Riverside Blues and an the songs Rise Today and Open Your Eyes.
I wondered if Myles Kennedy could handle some of the higher pitched vocals live, and let me tell you, this guy is the real deal. He hit every note, and was quite impressive. He is great singer, that is second to very few. Mark Tremonti was kicking everyone’s ass on the lead guitar. I think this guy must have a guitar for every new song that Alter Bridge plays.
Alter Bridge played an incredibly tight set, and had the crowd of 300 people singing along all night. It was a very good live show, and one that I would definitely go see again.
Here is a video so you can see what you are missing!
The band has a ton of dates left on this tour! Don’t miss them if they hit your town!

Legendary ex KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, was asked by Silent Rage to perform on a new song called “Man Or Machine” for the bands upcoming fourth studio release on Frontiers Records. Check it out as Bruce Kulick ignites the fury with his guitar solo performances on this track.
This song was originally written by Jesse Damon for the KISS “Revenge” era and was re-worked and recorded by the band for their new Silent Rage CD titled, “Four Letter Word.” Due out early 2008! More news to come.
The new album is a melodic rock feast that showcases Lana’s legendary vocals with timeless songwriting, all produced in a modern symphonic rock environment. The atmosphere of the album is both spacious and grand, soaring melodies and intimate phrases play against lush arrangements of guitar and keyboards, all intertwining in a compelling tango of orchestration that is pure Lana Lane.
Recorded in The Netherlands and in San Francisco, California, “Red Planet Boulevard” combines the feeling of European precision and old world mystery with the Bay Area’s legendary style and mood that is pure Northern California magic. The melange of locations shows in the album’s production that is both bombastic and moody, clear and heavy, intimate and extroverted. Producer / keyboardist Erik Norlander took on bass guitar duties as well for this release continuing in the role he played on the 2007 “Lady Macbeth” tour. Long time collaborators, Dutchmen Peer Verschuren (guitar) and Ernst Van Ee (drums), complete the instrumental trio in what Norlander calls “a sort of ‘Led Zeppelin’ instrumentation where we have guitar, drums and a bass playing keyboardist.”
The “Red Planet Boulevard” musician line-up is indeed the most compact to appear on a Lana Lane album, but the trio does not falter in creating the massive Symphonic Rock sound for which Lana Lane is so well known. Walls of guitars, landscapes of keyboards and tectonic plates of bass and drums drive the arrangements with the energy and exuberance of a band that indeed went straight from the road into the studio. That touring seasoning shows in the subtle complexities of “Red Planet Boulevard”. This is a band that is experienced and skilled in their craft all supporting a legendary vocalist who is at the top of her game.
Twelve all original songs compose “Red Planet Boulevard”. The heavy rockers “Into the Fire”, “Capture the Sun” and “Angels and Magicians” along with the power ballad “Jessica” harken back to Lana’s 1995 debut release, “Love is an Illusion”, while in contrast, the anthemic “Shine”, “The Frozen Sea” and “No Tears Left” have a distinctly 21st century sound that fits perfectly with today’s iPod generation. The uptempo “Stepford, USA” re-tells the story of the quiet rural town with a dark secret, while “The Sheltering Sorrow” is a heart wrenching ballad that is epic in scale with links back to the late 60s majesty of early symphonic rock. The album concludes with the finale and title track, “Red Planet Boulevard”, where themes from each of the album’s songs is reprised in a grand orchestral rock style.
Artwork is once again provided by Polish surrealist Jacek Yerka who has painted the covers for Lana’s many past masterworks. Photos for the album were shot by noted San Francisco photographer Mark Leialoha who brings his own style and vision to the Lana Lane production team. Fans of melodic rock, symphonic style and the amazing female rock voice, your light is green: make the turn onto “Red Planet Boulevard”!
You can sample three of the new songs below!
If you are a fan of the band Creed, then Alter Bridge probably needs no introduction. Alter Bridge consists of 3 former members of platinum recording artist Creed, and ex-Mayfield Four singer, Myles Kennedy.
With the new CD Blackbird, not only has the band crafted their finest work since the breakup of Creed, but they have also created what could be one of the best new hard rock records of 2007. Yes, It really is that good!
Blackbird starts off with a crushing rocker, Ties That Bind. This song sets the stage immediately for what I knew was going to be an incredible listening experience.
Come To Life has a cool groove, a heavy bass line, sing along lyrics, and killer guitar work. GREAT!!
The pace slows down a bit with Brand New Start. Myles Kennedy excellent voice shines almost as much as his guitar work on this track. More Great Stuff!
I have listened to Buried Alive a few times now and this song hasn’t impressed me as much as some of the others. It is slowly growing on me.
Coming Home has a very heavy bass line. This is another headbanging track that has a Tool like feel about it. Cool!
Before Tomorrow Comes will be a monster radio hit! This song is exactly the type of tune that Creed had some hits off. Soaring vocals and sing along lyrics. I love this song!
Rise Today is the first single and video from Blackbird. If you like this song, you are going to love this disc. This was the first song that I heard, and I knew that I had to hear more after listening to this one. Check out the video below:
Blackbird is the longest song on this disc, clocking in at nearly 8 minutes in length. This is like 2 or 3 songs wrapped up in one. At times, it has a stoner rock like feel, but then the music slows down, and Myles Kennedy’s voice takes off. The guitars really howl on this track. This is an extremely cool song that does not feel too long. In fact, you will find yourself replaying this one to pick up on things that you didn’t catch the first time around. Amazing!
The bass riff that starts off on One By One sounds like something that Tony Iommi would write. The song itself has a slightly darker feel to it, but once again the voice of Myles Kennedy powers this song to new heights. This song has some hit potential.
Watch Over You slows the tempo back down again. At this point Myles Kennedy has me saying Scott who? This guy has a killer voice!
Break Me Down is a song that I think could have had much more potential with a little different arrangement on the music. It is still a solid tune though.
White Knuckles is one of the heavier songs on Blackbird. Be prepared to headbang to this one!
Wayward One is a mid tempo, moody sounding song. It is a solid track, but not the strongest one on Blackbird. I probably would have mixed this song higher in the playing order, but that is just my personal taste.
Don’t even hesitate in picking this disc up! Blackbird is nothing short of a brilliant listening experience. You don’t even have to take my word for it! Alter Bridge have launched a special listening party for their fans a chance to check out the album in its entirety. Click this link to listen to Blackbird in its entirety. Warning…..you will be heading to store to purchase this one, if you take the time out to preview it!

Black Tide burst onto the metal scene with a month long stint opening up the main stage of Ozzfest. Now with sights set on an early 2008 release of Light From Above, their major label debut on Interscope Records, Black Tide will call the road home over the coming months as they rock the stage with Avenged Sevenfold. Black Tide is a band you have to see to believe with members ranging in age from 14-19 who shred like the legends who inspired them.
Black Tide not only embrace the charisma, character and unwavering attitude of those who shredded before them, but they do so in a manner that would make the virtuosos that inspired them proud. The results are a renegade metallic assault that America hasn’t encountered since Metallica killed ‘em all in ’83. Black Tide are not only bringing music back from the dead, but they’re returning the power to metal. The meltdown is long overdue…

Tigertailz fans have been excited about this new 10 song CD, Thrill Pistol with disc two being Wazbonez ’92. I have to admit being a fan of cover art, this one didn’t get me very excited. The chick with the stick on Clint tattoo just doesn’t do it for me. But I’m a girl so what do I know about apparently hot chicks with fake tattoos. Anyway that is irrelevant because it’s the music that is the main thing.
On first listen I wasn’t that keen on this disc, but on the third spin I am actually liking it quite a bit. For me it’s a grow-on-you type album and not one I instantly liked. These seem to be Tigertaliz’s heavier songs to date. Kim Hooker’s vocals sound quite different in places which I’m not saying is a bad thing, just different. The first 6 songs are the strongest on here, although title track “Thrill Pistol” is quite a change in style after the first 3 songs, its almost honky tonk piano sounding, complete with female vocals (courtesy of the wonderful sounding Suzy Chunk), but it’s catchy and likeable even if its not what you expect after hearing the rest of this disc.
The two ballad type songs “Milez Away” and “Only You” are just plain weak and awful. But that might be because I’m just not a fan of ballads in general, unless its Great White! “Natural Born Animal” is my pick for the best track on here. It has the potential to become the new “Love Bomb Baby”.
I won’t comment on Wazbones ’92 too much, suffice to say it is a great album and probably superior to Thrill Pistol, so it’s a bonus and nice addition to get Wazbones thrown in with Thrill Pistol. Thrill Pistol is not brilliant but it is good heavy glam. Tigertaliz fans should be pretty happy with this release.

When I Was A Planet is a somewhat entertaining fusion of Punk and Metal.
This sound of Invitro kind of reminds me of Suicidal Tendencies at times. There is a lot of humor in the lyrics which will certainly crack a few smiles with even the toughest hard rock fan.
The heavy sound of this record may not appeal to everyone. Fans of the genre will probably like this, but those looking for a more mainstream hard rock effort, are probably not going to enjoy this record. This album does however have a noteworthy moment.
When I was a Planet is pretty good. The video below is pretty funny! This is the least heavy song on the record, and I like this one quite a bit.
As a whole, I found the album, When I Was A Planet a little too heavy for my taste. If you like your music on the heavier side, check out Invitro. You can find more info on Invitro at this link.

Canadian rock band Evans Blue does not have a name that would necessarily bring Hard Rock or Heavy Metal to mind. The band has crafted a very good modern hard rock release that sounds like a cross between Tool and Atreyu.
Singer Kevin Matisyn has a strong and very good, clean singing voice. His voice drives the tunes on “The Pursuit” which range from heavy rockers like Red Dress, Shine Your Cadillac and The Pursuit to more mainstream sounding tracks like Q, Kiss the Flag, Pin-Up, and Fear. It is a nice variety of songs that make for a very good listen.
The bands’ sound has matured quite a bit since the debut record, The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume. I will be anxious to see how the bands’ sound continues to evolve on the next release.
Until then “The Pursuit Begins When This Portrayal Of Life Ends” is another release that these Canadian rockers can be proud of.

Recently Drowning Pool traveled to Washington DC, to deliver a petition to support the Lane Evans Mental Health Reform Bill. The petition was meant to encourage congress to fast track the bill to a vote, so that the troops returning home from battle can get the care they desperately need. While in Washington the band met with Presidential candidate Barack Obama to educate him on the bill and to get his support. The band had a bunch of leftover songs in the Godsmack writing sessions and thus Another Animal was born.
Another Animal also features the perilous pipes of former Ugly Kid Joe singer, Whitfield Crane.
It has been quite a while since I have heard Whitfield Crane sing, and I must admit that after hearing this CD, it made me want to seek out the W.C. discology. Whitfield’s voice is in top form here.
Broken Again is the first single off of this record, and if you have checked it out at the previous article at the Hard Rock Hideout, then you already know it is killer stuff. Chances are if you like the song Broken, Again you are going to love this CD.
Some of my other favorite cuts off this record are Left Behind, Black Coffee Blues and Fade Away. Fade Away is the least heavy song on this record, but Whit Crane’s voice really shines on this tune. This is going to be a massive hit for the band with a little bit of luck.
If you are a Godsmack fan, you are going to enjoy this disc. Fans of Whitfield Crane out to check this disc out as well!

Whit Crane from Ugly Kid Joe joins Tony Rombola, Lee Richards, Robbie Merrill and Shannon Larkin from Godsmack to become Another Animal. When Shannon and the guys from Godsmack needed a singer for their new band, he called on his old friend Whit Crane to step in. Shannon and Whit had previously played together on Ugly Kid Joe’s album Menace to Sobriety.
Another Animal’s name is a perfect description for what the new band has become. By incorporating elements of hard rock, metal, punk, and grunge, Another Animal is an eclectic tribute to the sounds the members grew up with. “It was so organic and fun to do,” says Rombola. “It was a great experience because there were no preconceptions. We just did what we felt like in order to create some really cool songs without worrying about what audience it was for.”
With the new record in stores today and the first show of their US tour kicking off tonight, Another Animal are playing the music they love and enjoying the ride. The new record is on sale at Best Buy this week for the paltry sum of $7.99. GO GET IT!! Hard Rock Hideout will posting a review of the new disc tomorrow!
The Cult returns in 2007 with a different band lineup. That really shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Cult has more former members than Bang Camaro has singers.
The Cult in 2007 is Ian Astbury vocals, Billy Duffy on lead guitar, John Tempesta on drums, Mike Dimkitch on rhythm guitar, and Chris Wyse on bass guitar.
Personally, I am glad to get some new hard rock tunes by the Cult in 2007. It has been far too long since 2001′s Beyond Good and Evil. There are quite a few stand out tracks on Born Into This including the title track Born Into This, Dirty Little Rockstar, I Assassin, Illuminated and Savages.
Ian Astbury’s vocals are as strong as ever, and Billy Duffy’s playing on this record is excellent.
Check out the Cult at their myspace page here!

LILLIAN AXE TO SUPPORT SHOCK ROCK LEGEND ALICE COOPER – IN SUPPORT OF NEW ACCLAIMED RELEASE, ‘WATERS RISING’
Think of ‘theatrical rock legend,’ and Alice Cooper immediately comes to mind for many. And the shock rock godfather couldn’t have picked a more deserving band to support him on a string of upcoming southern dates – Lillian Axe. After an extended hiatus, the group – which is
comprised of Derrick LeFevre (lead vocals), Steve Blaze (lead guitars/vocals), Sam Poitevent (guitars/vocals), Eric Morris (bass), and Ken Koudelka (drums) – recently unleashed their first new studio album in nearly fifteen years (and first for the Metro City Records label),
Originally formed in 1983, the New Orleans-based group soon caught the attention of Ratt manager Marshall Berle and MCA Records, leading to the release of the group’s self-titled 1988 release (produced by late Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby), 1989’s ‘Love and War’ (produced by Tony
Platt, who previously worked with AC/DC), 1991’s ‘Out of the Darkness Into the Light,,’ 1992’s ‘Poetic Justice,’ and 1993’s ‘Psycho-Schizophrenia’ (the last two of which were produced by Leif Mases, who previously worked with Led Zeppelin). Additionally, such Lillian Axe tracks as “Dream of a Lifetime,” “Show A Little Love,” “True Believer,” and a cover of Badfinger’s “No Matter What” received attention from rock radio and MTV.
By the middle of the ‘90s, Lillian Axe opted to take a break, although a collection of previously unreleased material was issued in 1999, ‘Fields of Yesterday.’ With metal once more ruling the charts and the airwaves by the early 21st century, Lillian Axe was back in business with live shows, resulting in the release of their first-ever live album, ‘Live 2002,’ recorded in Houston, Texas. Roadwork has continued for the band – including playing to 27,000 fans at Germany’s Bang Your Head Festival in 2004, as well as an extensive European tour a year later. With new singer LeFevre recently replacing longtime frontman Ron Taylor, ‘Waters Rising’ sees a whole new metallic chapter
unfolding for Lillian Axe.
Despite the long break between studio albums, ‘Waters Rising’ has been steadily receiving its share of accolades, including a write-up by All Music Guide, which raves “If ‘Waters Rising’ were released in the late 80s, there’s little doubt that its video clips would have done battle – and held their own – alongside Iron Maiden and Queensrÿche on
Headbangers Ball.” Additionally, KNAC.com gave the album a four and a half star rating, saying “[Steve Blaze] is the visionary of what he wants the band to be, and as long as he’s a part of any musical endeavor, you KNOW to expect nothing but the best!”
Dates for the Alice Cooper/Lillian Axe tour:
10/20 Birmingham, AL Alabama Theatre
10/21 Mobile, AL Saenger Theatre
10/22 Houston, TX Verizon Wireless Theatre
10/23 Dallas, TX Majestic Theatre
Nick Oliveri is no stranger to Ozzfest. He first took the stage in Ozzfest as the bassist for Queens of the Stone Age.
On Dead Planet, Nick handles the lead vocals and bass playing. Nick Oliveri’s razor sharp voice is one that takes a couple of listens to get used to, but I find his sound refreshingly different from so many of the singers that I have listened to as of late.
Mondo Generator has a punk/metal sound that I describe as Motorhead meets Velvet Revolver. The music on Dead Planet is extremely tight. The dual guitars of Ian Taylor and Spud are far better than I could have imagined.
Dead Planet gives you a wide selection of tunes. 17 songs averaging about 3 minutes in length. The cool thing about the short song length on Dead Planet is, if you find a song not to your liking, chances are 3 minutes later you will.
Stand out tracks are All The Way Down, Lie Detector, So High, Take Me Away, and Paper Thin.
I had no expectations when I first listened to this CD, and surprisingly liked this one a lot. If you are a fan of Nick’s former work in Queens of the Stone Age, get Dead Planet, you will love it. If you like the video above, for Lie Detector above, check out Mondo Generator, I think you will like them! You can hear more tracks at the band’s myspace page here.

The Rock of Love finale was earlier this evening. Poison front man Bret Michaels made the decision between Heather and Jes.
Who did he Pick?
The winner is Jes. At the last minute, Bret sent Heather packing. Jes seemed to be the popular choice based on people’s comments at the Hard Rock Hideout. I am sure there are quite a few people happy in TV land tonight!
Next week, VH1 will Air the Rock of Love Reunion show!
