GUITAR LEGEND NEAL SCHÖN TEAMS UP WITH MARCO
MENDOZA AND DEEN CASTRONOVO FOR SMOKING NEW
FUSION AND BLUES-INSPIRED HARD ROCK ALBUM
Guitar legend Neal Schön has joined forces with bassist Marco Mendoza (Black Star Riders, Ted Nugent, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy) and drummer Deen Castronovo (Journey, Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, Hardline) to create a unique body of work with jazz and blues-inspired virtuosic hard rock playing, entitled SO U. The new album features Schön, Mendoza and Castronovo splitting vocal and writing duties, with many of the tracks also co-written by Night Ranger/Damn Yankee’s songwriter, singer and bassist Jack Blades. Of SO U, Neal Schön commented, “This is a great new record that features all three of us – Deen, Marco and myself – sharing lead vocals. Enjoy!”
Best known as founding member and lead guitarist of Journey, Neal Schönhas enjoyed a remarkable career as one of rock n’ roll’s top virtuosos, with a hand in creating some of the most popular songs of all time. Beginning his career more than 35 years ago in the San Francisco Bay area, the 15-year-old guitar prodigy left home to join Santana. Schönmoved on in 1973 to form Journey. With Journey and other projects, he has earned 19 Top 40 singles and 25 platinum and gold albums, was awarded the prestigious “Legend Of Live Award” at the 2011 Billboard Touring Awards, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005 and was individually inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall Of Fame in 2013. As the only member to record on all of Journey’s albums, Schöncontinues with the band today in its latest incarnation.
In addition to 6 solo albums and 14 studio albums with Journey, Neal Schön has also performed with Joe Cocker, Sammy Hagar, Paul Rodgers, Larry Graham, Betty Davis, Michael Bolton, fusion legend Jan Hammer, Hardline and supergroup Bad English, as well as a variety of side projects. His latest instrumental solo album, THE CALLING, released in 2012 via Frontiers Records, won rave reviews from fans and the media alike, with Vintage Guitar declaring “THE CALLING is a fine piece of work demonstrating that Schönstill has it going on – and then some…The songs are strong and his guitar tones are absolutely luxurious.” In demand as one of the leading guitarists of his generation, Schönalso worked with Gibson to manufacture his own limited edition “Neal SchönSignature Model Custom Les Paul” guitar, but now uses custom PRS Neal Schon LTD Private Stock guitars, made especially for Neal by Paul Reed Smith.

One will pour some sugar on you, the other will lick it up.
Kiss and Def Leppard will team up this summer for a 42-city North American tour that will “deliver good news and excitement,” says Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley.
The tour begins June 23 in West Valley City, Utah, and wraps up Aug. 31 in Woodlands, Texas. Tickets go on sale starting Friday.
The groups announced the tour Monday at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The press conference was streamed live via the Live Nation website.
Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott says he and Gene Simmons first discussed the idea of the two bands touring together when he and the Kiss bassist played some South American dates two years ago as part of a rock-and-roll all-stars tour. “It’s finally happened, which is fantastic,” Elliott says.
It’ll be the first time the two bands have shared a bill, though Stanley says, “We’ve run into each other at festivals. It just seemed to be a natural fit.” Stanley also noted that one of guitarist Phil Collen’s pre-Def Leppard bands, Girl, opened for Kiss in the U.K. during the early ’80s.
Kiss did a similar co-headlining tour with Motley Crue in 2012.
Kiss released its first album, Hotter Than Hell, 40 years ago, and the band will commemorate the anniversary with a slew of archival releases, including a 34-LP vinyl box set and a two-CD compilation called Kiss 40. The group will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame April 10.
Def Leppard has been writing music for the group’s next album. “We all camped out at my house last month and wrote songs, which you will hear none of this summer,” Elliott says. Collen says he expects that album to come out in 2015.
Simmons says a dollar from each ticket sold on the tour will go to to the Wounded Warrior Project and other military non-profits. Those charitable partners include the USO, Hire a Hero, Project Resiliency/The Raven Drum Foundatio, and The Augusta Warrior Project. “Politicians fart through their mouth,” Simmons says. “Only the military makes freedom possible.”
Stanley adds that the group also plans to hire vets for its crew. “We try to find a couple of vets who want to go out and be part of the team,” he says. “This is a chance for somebody to travel and be part of the Kiss Army.”
Elliot says he doesn’t see any rivalry developing between the groups while they’re on tour. “It’s two great bands that are going to be playing for the same amount of time,” he says. “It’s joint forces. I don’t see it as competitive at all.”

Unplugged and Strung Up is an amazing full-length release of fresh twists on classic tracks. Featuring staple SAXON stormers such as ‘Motorcycle Man’, ‘Strong Arm of the Law’ and ‘Dallas 1pm’, it is a quintessential part of any collection. Recorded, mixed and mastered with Andy Sneap in Derbyshire, UK last year, Biff and co. re-evaluated, re-worked and re-energized the towering likes of ‘The Eagle Has Landed’ and ‘Crusader’ by introducing orchestral dynamics to offer added dimension. ‘Frozen Rainbow’ from the band’s 1979 debut, gets a stunning acoustic reprisal which transports it into a power ballad to be proud of, whilst ‘Red Star Falling’ soars and sweeps the emotions with its orchestrally-arranged dovetail. TENTH ANNIVERSARY MUSICARES MAP FUND® BENEFIT CONCERT TO HONOR GRAMMY®-WINNING SINGER/ SONGWRITER OZZY OSBOURNE AND OWNER/CEO OF THE VILLAGE STUDIOS JEFF GREENBERG TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MUSICARES®‘ ADDICTION RECOVERY SERVICES
Mix Master Mike Will DJ In Memory Of DJ AM
Performance By Osbourne With Special Guest Slash On Guitar
The 10th anniversary MusiCares MAP Fund® benefit concert will honor Black Sabbath’s GRAMMY®-winning singer/songwriter Ozzy Osbourne, and owner/CEO of the Village studios Jeff Greenberg. Taking place at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on May 12, Osbourne will be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund. He is being recognized for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction recovery process. Greenberg will be the recipient of MusiCares®‘ From the Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
Continuing to celebrate the memory of DJ AM, the evening’s DJ will be Mix Master Mike. There will also be a performance by Osbourne and his touring band with special guest Slash on guitar. Additional performers will be announced shortly.
“Ten years ago MusiCares merged with the Musicians’ Assistance Program, originally founded by Buddy Arnold, to create the MusiCares MAP Fund,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy® and MusiCares. “Since then our addiction recovery resources and programs have grown substantially, and this annual benefit provides a meaningful way to recognize artists and industry professionals who are on the front lines in the battle to fight this crippling disease. It’s an honor to celebrate Ozzy and Jeff in our 10th anniversary year, and we know it will be an extraordinary evening filled with heartfelt words and serious rock and roll.”
“I know firsthand about the ravages of addiction and I also know that the MusiCares MAP Fund is a vital safety net for people in the music industry who need help with substance abuse,” said Osbourne. “This organization literally saves lives.”
“I’ve been lucky to spend my life in the music business doing things that I love,” said Greenberg. “But I’ve also seen the serious and, all too often, fatal effects of addiction in our industry, so that’s why I am an ardent supporter of the MusiCares MAP Fund.”
This special dinner and concert offers Living Room Sets that seat 10 for $12,500, Individual Floor Seats for $1,250 per person, and VIP Balcony Seats for $100 per person. Osbourne is a multi-platinum Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter. His career has spanned more than four decades as both a solo artist and as the lead singer of metal icons Black Sabbath, and his music is as relevant today as ever. Since 2011, Osbourne’s focus has been with Black Sabbath. In June 2013 Black Sabbath returned with their critically acclaimed album 13, which debuted at No. 1 in 13 countries. Produced by eight-time GRAMMY-winning producer Rick Rubin, 13 was the first studio album to feature original Black Sabbath members Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Osbourne in 35 years. Earlier this year, the group won a GRAMMY Award for Best Metal Performance for the album’s lead single “God Is Dead?”
Beyond his music career, Osbourne is a best-selling author (I Am Ozzy, 2010; Trust Me, I’m Dr. Ozzy: Advice From Rock’s Ultimate Survivor, 2011), advice columnist (The Sunday Times, The London Times and Rolling Stone) and among the first to have a celebrity reality television program (“The Osbournes,” which won a 2002 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Reality) ). That same year, Osbourne was honored by the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star on Hollywood Boulevard.
Owner and CEO of the Village studios in West Los Angeles, Greenberg is a native Angeleno with music in his blood. At age 19 Greenberg was already managing his first rock band. He went on to produce some of the very first skateboarding events and 1978’s Cal Jam II (one of the biggest one day festivals in history). He also managed the band the Section and Felix Pappalardi, the producer of Cream and the leader of Mountain. Greenberg then booked and promoted concerts for Nederlander venues such as the Greek Theatre. Later he became a talent agent for ICM where, with the legendary Tom Ross, he represented artists such as Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Heart, the Kinks, Barry Manilow, Linda Ronstadt, Santana, and James Taylor, among many others.
The Village has produced many of the most important albums of the past half-century, including those by the Band, Eric Clapton, Coldplay, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Elton John, Janet Jackson, Heart, Lady Gaga, Ozzy Osbourne, Pink Floyd, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, Supertramp, Talking Heads, Usher, and many of T Bone Burnett’s albums and affiliated soundtracks. Soundtracks recorded at the Village include The Bodyguard, Cars, Crazy Heart, The Hunger Games, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Lion King, Moulin Rouge, Saving Mr. Banks, The Shawshank Redemption, There’s Something About Mary, South Park: The Movie, Toy Story, and Walk The Line, among others. The complex, located in a 1922 Masonic Temple, hosts many events for artists and organizations such as The Recording Academy. Greenberg is past president and current director of the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services, a Producers & Engineers Wing Advisory Board member, and Governor and current Secretary of The Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter. Greenberg was also one of the original board members of the Musicians’ Assistance Program.

Since then, GP has honored Duane Eddy, Nokie Edwards, Dick Dale, Larry Carlton, Tommy Emmanuel, Mike Stern, Lee Ritenour, Robben Ford, Joe Perry, and others. “Lita Ford slugged it out with the boys club in an era where female musicians who liked to rock hard had very few heroes,” says GUITAR PLAYER Editor in Chief Michael Molenda. “But Lita was there, and man, did she cut a heroic figure. About Multiple Sclerosis
- Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system.
- MS interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving.
- Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The advancement, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS.
- Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease.
- MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.1 million worldwide.

Band Also Confirms Festival Appearances at Welcome To Rockville,
Rock On The Range, Sunfest and Others
BILLBOARD PREMIERES “THE LION” MUSIC VIDEO FROM JUNO NOMINATED ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR FURIOSITY
Monster Truck is confirmed to appear with Alice in Chains for a run beginning on May 6 in North Charleston, SC at the North Charleston Coliseum. The quartet will make these eleven arena appearances alongside just confirmed festival performances at Welcome To Rockville in Jacksonville, FL (4/26), Sun Fest in West Palm Beach, FL (5/04) and Rock On The Range in Columbus, OH (5/18). The band has been touring extensively across the globe for the last year, and look poised to rise with the increased audience exposure.
This follows an extensive coast-to-coast tour with Alter Bridge through many of the major markets across the U.S. That 11-date tour will begin on April 14 in Dallas, TX and end on May 2 in Kansas City, MO. All confirmed U.S. appearances are cited below.
Artists have long supported the rise of Monster Truck, and this heavy touring activity is a testament to their collective passion for the band. The relationship the band cultivated with singer Myles Kennedy, who enjoys a prolific career as front man in Slash’s ensemble as well as being the vocalist of Alter Bridge, was the primary driver in delivering the April run. Monster Truck toured extensively with Slash in 2013. Alice In Chains Mike Inez offers, “Monster Truck is the real deal. Familiar. Comfortable. Like an old pair of gig boots or sweaty pig sex with an ex girlfriend. I wish them all the success in the World, but it’s not ALL because they are such great human beings and hardworking guys. It is for a totally selfish reason too. I just wanna jam the fuck out with ‘em again sometime! Cya out there on the road fellas.”
Monster Truck and Dine Alone Records have selected “The Lion” as the follow-up single to their debut hit “Sweet Mountain River” from the album, FURIOSITY. The music video for that track premieres today on Billboard.com and can be screened here: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/5923176/monster-truck-the-lion-exclusive-video-premiere
The debut single “Sweet Mountain River” received substantial support in the U.S. from rock stations across the country. In Canada, the song achieved the milestone of becoming #1 at the Active Rock, and Mainstream Rock, for eight consecutive weeks. The follow-up track, “The Lion” stood at the top of the Canadian rock charts for six weeks, with the song impacting U.S. rock radio now.
The band was recently honored with a Juno Award Nomination for Rock Album of the Year for FURIOSITY. The award will be presented to the winner on March 30 in Winnipeg. Monster Truck took home the 2013 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of The Year, toured their home country of Canada with Alice In Chains, and established themselves as a major headlining attraction. In the U.S., the band has been very active, appearing with Kid Rock, Slash, Guns ‘n Roses, Sevendust, and others, performing for hundreds of thousands of rock fans over the course of this year. Overseas, the band appeared on a 29-date run of Europe supporting Vista Chino (formerly Kyuss). This March, 2014, Monster Truck return to Europe as headliners of the “Lords of the Riff, Volume 1″ tour in association with Classic Rock and Metal Hammer Magazines. A short-form documentary capturing their essence as they travel the globe can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/IYLkY4mxcdk
Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Monster Truck was formed in 2009 by Jon Harvey (bass, lead vocals), Jeremy Widerman (guitar, vocals), Brandon Bliss (organ, vocals) and Steve Kiely (drums, vocals). What began as a side-project to their other more ‘serious’ bands quickly gained momentum and took on a life of its own. The band has released 2 EPs since their inception; a self-titled, and notably self-released EP produced by Gus Van Go & Werner F (The Stills, Priestess, Hollerado) and The Brown EP (also produced by Ratz) on Dine Alone Records.

I won’t sugarcoat it. These last few months have been very hard on me. Most of it is stress due to work (my demanding day job, not this awesome gig writing for Hard Rock Hideout), as well as some family issues that I am trying to work through. The rough Northeast winter hasn’t helped my mood, and I keep trying to make more time for friends, but never seem to have enough of it. All of that has added up to some hard months that I have had to endure. On the upside, things appear to be turning around and I believe in the next few weeks, life will turn on its ear and better times will be at my doorstep.
When I go through rough times like I have recently, I find myself diving into music more and more. When I was younger (especially as a teenager) music was my vast escape from the everyday pressures. Metallica, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Posion, and KISS got me through almost anything. In my 20s I branched out and really got into Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers Band, and Pearl Jam. I also re-discovered Iron Maiden at this period in my life, and all of that music really had an impact on me. If I was down, I could play power ballads for hours on end. If I needed to rouse myself into a happier state, “Run To The Hills” or “God Of Thunder” would power me through and leave me with a smile on my face. Music was always there to embrace me, no matter what was happening at the time, and it’s nice to know that it is still there today.
I got my love of music from both of my parents, but it was my father that really hooked me. He had a vast record collection of almost 3,000 vinyl albums, and they, along with his top of the line stereo, were his pride and joy. I would spend endless afternoons just staring at his collection and wishing that one day, I could have a collection that mammoth. My dad was into everything (except rap) and my diversity in music definitely stemmed from him. Dad would rock out to Molly Hatchet and Skynyrd, go crazy over Kiss, and lose himself in The Moody Blues (his favorite band). There were many nights when he and I would stay up late listening to classic rock and what was hot at that time. Those are some of my greatest memories.
And now, here I am, years later, still using music as my escape. Not too long ago I wrote a post about how I was using music during my commute to get me through the rough times. I am still doing that and now I am listening to some great hard rock whenever I can. At the office, in the car, and in the house, the music has been taking me away and making me feel much better. It’s amazing what the power of music can do for the human body and spirit. No matter how down or defeated I am, the right music can always change my mood in an instant. Over the last couple of weeks, the latest Against Me! album has kept me going, but I’ve also found myself revisiting Warrant’s entire catalog (including their lesser known works like Belly To Belly). The modern music hypes me up and the classics leave me nostalgic and smiling. Ahhhh a good song can still brighten any day!
What about you? What music are you listening through to get you through the winter blues? Anything particular song or album that is your go to when you need a pick me up? Drop us a line in the comments and let us know!

Celebrates the Life and Legacy of a Legend
available April 1, 2014 via Rhino
This Is Your Life Pays Tribute To The Late Singer With Covers Of
His Greatest Songs From Rainbow, Black Sabbath, And Dio
Features Newly Recorded Tracks From Anthrax, Halestorm, Rob Halford, Metallica, Motörhead, Scorpions, Corey Taylor, And Tenacious D, Among Others
To Benefit The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund
Ronnie James Dio is one of the most beloved figures in rock history. His gifts, both as a singer and songwriter, are instantly recognizable, whether he was with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, or leading Dio. Sadly, Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer in 2010, but his towering voice and legacy live on.
To celebrate one of rock’s most powerful voices, an all-star group of his friends and fans recorded 13 of their favorite tracks for a tribute album that will raise funds for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund (diocancerfund.org). Produced by his longtime manager and wife Wendy Dio, the album includes contributions by such metal heavyweights as Metallica, Motörhead, Scorpions, Anthrax, and Rob Halford, as well as appearances by many of the musicians who performed with Dio over the years.
This Is Your Life will be available from Rhino on April 1, 2014 for a suggested list price of $18.98. A digital version will also be available.
Although the songs featured on the album touch on the different eras of Dio’s career, several spotlight his time with Rainbow, including Metallica’s epic, nine-minute “Ronnie Rising Medley,” which combines the Rainbow songs “A Light In The Black,” “Tarot Woman,” “Stargazer,” and “Kill The King.” Scorpions add a scorching take on “The Temple Of The King” while Motörhead is joined by Biff Byford from Saxon on “Starstruck.” Rob Halford teams with frequent Dio collaborators Vinny Appice, Doug Aldrich, Jeff Pilson, and Scott Warren for “The Man On The Silver Mountain.” The final line-up of Dio’s solo band – Simon Wright, Craig Goldy, Rudy Sarzo and Scott Warren – are joined by Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) for “Catch The Rainbow,” a track from Rainbow’s 1975 debut.
Anthrax and Adrenaline Mob honor Dio’s memorable stint with Black Sabbath with their takes on “Neon Knights” and “The Mob Rules” respectively, as does a group, led by Oni Logan on vocals along with Jimmy Bain, Rowan Robertson, and Brian Tichy, which performs “I” from Dehumanizer.
This Is Your Life also includes songs from Dio’s back-to-back platinum albums Holy Diver (1983) and The Last In Line (1984), with Doro’s take on “Egypt (The Chains Are On)”, Halestorm tackling “Straight Through The Heart,” Corey Taylor (Stone Sour, Slipknot) covering the classic “Rainbow In The Dark” and Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Glass) putting their signature spin on “The Last In Line.” Killswitch Engage’s cover of “Holy Diver,” a hit in its own right when released in 2006, is also included here.
Fittingly, Ronnie James Dio provides the finale (and the album’s title) with his moving performance of “This Is Your Life.” Originally released on Angry Machines (1996), the song’s lyrics explore mortality and are backed by a stark and beautiful arrangement that features Dio accompanied only by his longtime keyboardist Scott Warren on piano. The song serves as a poignant reminder that we will never hear a voice like Dio’s again.
The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, co-founded by Wendy Dio, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable fund dedicated to supporting cancer-prevention research, raising awareness and educating the public about the vital importance of early detection and prevention when dealing with this deadly disease.

Iconic rock vocalist Sebastian Bach‘s forthcoming album GIVE ‘EM HELL has just been confirmed for an April 22nd North American release via label home Frontiers Records. GIVE ‘EM HELL is the highly-anticipated follow-up to the critically-acclaimed KICKING & SCREAMING.
GIVE ‘EM HELL can be pre-ordered on iTunes here and on Amazon here. Fans who pre-order from iTunes will be able to get the first taste of new music as the pre-order includes an instant download of the song “Hell Inside My Head”, a classic loud and heavy rocker from Bach.
Produced, mixed and recorded by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Alice Cooper) and mastered by Tom Baker (Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, Seether), GIVE ‘EM HELL features writing and playing by very special friends and guest stars: Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver, Guns N’ Roses), John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie) and Steve Stevens (Billy Idol). Rounding up the lineup on the album are Devin Bronson on guitars and Bobby Jarzombek on drums.
Sebastian Bach has sold in excess of 20 million records worldwide as lead singer with his former band, Skid Row and as a solo artist. Far from just being a multi-platinum recording artist, the singer/songwriter/actor/entertainer has expanded his career over the past decade to include episodic television with a 5-season recurring role on the CW’s hit series “Gilmore Girls”, starring roles on Broadway (“Jekyll & Hyde”, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”) and national touring companies (“Jesus Christ Superstar”), and has appeared regularly on MTV and VH1.

Bach on the web:
Emperors and Elephants sound is influenced by 90′s hard rock scene. The band wears their influences on their sleeves, on their new album Devil In The Lake. On the first listen, I immediately noticed the Alice in Chains influence but found their music to be completely refreshing. If you are expecting another album full of down tuned guitars, think again. There are a lot of infectious riffs to be found on this album. Emperors and Elephants recently added Randy “The Arsonist” Cooper from Texas Hippie Coalition to their ranks, and his playing mixed with Jeph Stiph’s gives E+E, a pretty fantastic guitar tandem. If the opening track “Bring It Down” doesn’t make you a quick believer, “Who Are You” will certainly drive the point home.
Devil In The Lake has a bunch of radio ready tracks. Some songs are pretty heavy, some tone it down to allow Jesse Andrews’ voice to shine. When Andrews’ voice is the focal point in the music, you will find that he has a pretty awesome voice, and he can hold his own with some of the best modern rock singers out there today.
My Favorite songs on Devil In the Lake include “Bring It Down”, “Who Are You”, “Hit of Red”, “You and I” and the band’s hard rockin’ cover of the Chris Isaac classic “Wicked Game”.
Emperors and Elephants is easily one of the best new modern hard rock bands I have listened to in 2014. If you are a fan of bands like Alice in Chains, Shinedown and Pop Evil, do yourself a favor, and check out Devil In The Lake. I think you are going to like Emperors and Elephants a lot. I sure do!
01. Bring It Down
02. Who Are You
03. Your Will
04. Man of God
06. Hit of Red
07. Deep Sleep
09. Wicked Game
10. Ghost In The Mirror
11. You And I
12. M.oG. – Dupermang Re-Mix

Fresh off the release of their newest single and video “Faceless,” New York City’s Martyrd has announced that they will be doing several shows with Metal Church – a band that is often considered to be one of the trailblazers of the thrash metal movement, and responsible for penning such headbanging classics as “Watch the Children Pray.”
“I love Metal Church!” exclaims Martyrd guitarist, Michael Andreas. “Their heavy melodic sound has definitely had a huge influence on me as a musician, and I’m really honored to be able to go out and share the stage with them on this tour.” And as singer Aaron Pollard adds, “F*** yeah! I can’t wait to get on the road again in 2014, what better way to do that than with Metal Church!”
Comprised of singer Pollard, guitarists Michael Andreas and Mike Kitsos, bassist Brian Nichols, and drummer Randall Lee, Martyrd has quickly made a name for themselves on the US east coast. And their last album, 2012′s sophomore effort, ‘The Mortal Coil,’ saw the group on tour with six-string legend Yngwie Malmsteen, while gaining praise from the metal press, including Guitar World Magazine, which proclaimed Martyrd was “A melee of blistering riffs and soaring vocal melodies sure to please fans of both Kreator and Symphony X.”
‘The Mortal Coil’ also reached #14 nationally on the CMJ Loud Rock Charts, while the group also completed their successful “Fall of the Faithful” fall-winter tour; and enjoyed a strong performance of the album’s single, “Pain of Reason.” Additionally, Martyrd has shared the stage with countless renowned heavy metal acts, including Children of Bodom, Black Dahlia Murder, Sonata Arctica, God Forbid, Testament, Death Angel, Ensiferum, and many more.
“‘Faceless’ is my new favorite,” explains Andreas about one of the band’s standout new tracks. “We had so much fun writing, recording, and listening to it. We’ve been writing a ton of new material since we released ‘The Mortal Coil,’ but ‘Faceless’ just sort of came together on its own, very quick. Its no-nonsense – it comes in pounding right off the bat, and then makes a statement with that heavy verse riff. There’s definitely a lot of heaviness, in fact, I think Aaron in particular has never sounded so heavy. But there’s also harmony and melody – that chorus is just asking you to sing along. This song is what Martyrd’s all about; it’s heavy and pounding and aggressive, but also melodic and kind of catchy. It’s just really fun to play and listen to. We can’t wait to take it out on the road and really see our friends and fans get into it!”
Fans can view the music video for Faceless below
To purchase the song, visit iTunes at this link.
And from March 2nd through the 9th, Martyrd will be spreading the word throughout the east coast of the U.S. Don’t dare miss this hard-hitting evening
of metal madness!

The first attention grabber from Pretty Wild is the fact that rock a scream this grand hasn’t been heard since Steelheart was in their prime. That sucked me in right away and set a very high expectation level for what was to come. And the good news is that those expectations were exceeded by the fourth song on Pretty Wild. If you’ve been yearning for some exceptional sleaze rock, welcome to Pretty Wild!
Pretty Wild hails from Sweden and upon formation they had one mission in mind: play the best 80s metal possible. They have certainly reached that feat. Their overall style and sound is an exact replica of the greatest 80s metal bands, but Pretty Wild has a unique signature of their own, which means they are more than a just a carbon copy of great 80s metal, they are also a unique force in the world of 80s hard rock music and Swedish metal in general.
The hard rocking tunes are plentiful on Pretty Wild. The album kicks off with the hard rocking “Are You Ready,” which starts with a pounding bass drum and the chants of “Are you ready, are you ready for me?” Once the guitar started to slowly build up just under the surface, I knew it was only a matter of seconds before the song exploded. And at the center of the explosion was the first rock scream from vocalist Ivan Ivve Hoglund. The fun factor just ramped up from there.
“Staring At The Sun” is a great highway song that should be played at maximum volume with the windows down, the sun on the horizon, and your foot pressing the gas pedal hard. It is a song that is very reminiscent of some of the great sounds from my youth, and “Staring At The Sun” made me feel like I was 17 again. Hoglund’s vocals were tight and glorious, while the guitar work from Axl Ludwig was flat out fun.
Ballads are present and accounted for on Pretty Wild and done in the appropriate power ballad fashion. “All I Want” and “High Enough” are the two stand out ballads, with “High Enough” just edging out “All I Want” as the better ballad overall. Both songs are exceptional, showing off the talents of all band members, and make me yearn for a video that would rule the Dial MTV charts. However, the guitar solo on “High Enough” is so amazing that it gives this song the edge for best ballad on the record.
If you’re yearning for the sound of the 80s with a modern flair, or if you’re just looking for some flat out fun hard rock to add to your collection, check out Pretty Wild. These guys are the real deal and I can guarantee that their debut album is going to get a lot off spins from me.

If you counted Saliva out when you heard that they had parted ways with singer Josey Scott, you have been proven dead wrong – all you have to do is give a listen to the group’s upcoming single, “Rise Up” (impacting radio and available for purchase via all digital stores on February 18th), and album of the same name (April 29th, via Rum Bum). And with new singer Bobby Amaru firmly in place, it appears as though there is a bright future for the new-look Saliva line-up, which also includes guitarist Wayne Swinny, bassist Dave Novotny, and drummer Paul Crosby.
“We’re lucky to have found him,” says Swinny about his new band mate. “We discovered him through one of our old crew guys. He really energized the rest of us. He’s a great songwriter, and a top-shelf producer in his own right.”
With acclaimed producer Bobby Huff (Papa Roach, 3 Doors Down, Tim Finn) on board, all the pieces seem to be in place. And Saliva has delivered with their new single, “Rise Up.” “‘Rise Up’ …it’s a statement on where we’re at,” adds Swinny. “The title just has that fire to it.”
And if you are a longtime Saliva fan, you are sure to be extremely pleased with the full-length ‘Rise Up’ – a bold record full of big hooks, swagger and plenty
of guitars. And, outside of the ballad “Lost,” it’s first and foremost a rock record. These are songs that kick hard, from the immediacy of the aforementioned “Rise Up,” to the slow build of “Choke,” and the rollickin’ “Redneck Freakshow,” a song the band seems particularly proud of.
Saliva has already debuted a number of new songs live, with Amaru seamlessly working his way into the line-up. “The audiences have been great,” says the singer. “I think we have a whole new energy on stage.” Expect to see the band on tour the rest of the year and well into next. “It’s definitely a throwback, fun, party rock show,” adds Swinny. “And Bobby’s putting his own spin on the older material.”
Another piece to the puzzle has been uniting with a new independent label, Rum Bum Records, founded by Luis Bacardi, based in Miami, FL. Led by a team of
industry veterans dedicated to finding original talent of all genres, the label offers worldwide distribution, and provides artists with the resources necessary to develop and expand their careers. By utilizing a variety of platforms including imaging, video production, marketing, social media, and publicity, Rum Bum Records is able to create versatile portfolios for talent, opening the doors to as many opportunities as possible. Additionally, the label has a full state of the art HD Film studio to successfully build an artist’s image and brand identity into one that is fully recognized and sought after by the public.
There’s certainly a lot of revitalized energy on display throughout ‘Rise Up.’ And despite his late arrival, Amaru thinks he knows why Saliva in 2014 sounds as vital as they were in 2001. “We’ve just gone back to the basics. You know, /being a rock band.”/

*‘To Hellion And Back’*
*The Anthology- 2CD Anthology 1983-2014*
*Release date – Tuesday, April, 1st 2014*
Los Angeles-based female-fronted metallers HELLION have inked a contract with London-based HNE/CHERRY RED RECORDS. The first of three HELLION albums set for release this year is a 2-disc anthology entitled TO HELLION AND BACK, which will be released on April 1, 2014, and the first 1,000 copies will be autographed by the band’s singer, ANN BOLEYN.
TO HELLION AND BACK chronicles the band’s beginnings from 1982, to the present, and features new music from Hellion. In 1983, when the term “female metal singer” did not exist, HELLION’s demo recordings (released as a self-titled Mini-LP) climbed to Number 6 in England’s rock charts. In America, HELLION however was regarded by the corporate music world as “too heavy” for a band with a female singer. Despite never releasing an album on a major record label, Hellion was the first female-fronted metal band to be featured on MTV and VH-1 and was also the first U.S. metal band to perform in the former-Soviet Union on a MONSTERS OF ROCK festival.
TO HELLION AND BACK features a collection of fan-favourites, hard-to-find recordings, and previously unreleased tracks. Among the collection are also two songs that were produced by RONNIE JAMES DIO at the legendary SOUND CITY recording studio.
The musicians enlisted by powerhouse vocalist Ann Boleyn for the new HELLION include drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, QUEENSRŸCHE, DIO, DIO DISCIPLES), keyboardist Scott Warren (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL), Swedish import bassist Bjorn Englen (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, DIO DISCIPLES), and up-and-coming lead guitarist Maxxxwell Carlisle.
HELLION’s new tracks were produced by legendary British studio icon Ken Scott, who has produced iconic albums, including DAVID BOWIE’s “Hunky Dory”, “The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars”, “Aladdin Sane” and “Pinups”. A top producer at Abbey Road Studios, Scott is also acknowledged as one of the five principal engineers for THE BEATLES. He has engineered countless classic works, including GEORGE HARRISON’s “All Things Must Pass”, ELTON JOHN’s “Madman Across The Water”, “Honky Chateau” and “Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player.” Other credits include gold and platinum albums by SUPERTRAMP, DAVID BOWIE, MISSING PERSONS, KANSAS, and more. Scott recently said of the comparison between working with David Bowie and Ann Boleyn: “Working with Bowie or working with Ann of HELLION, you’ve got sheer talent.” Acknowledging Boleyn as the driving force propelling the band, Scott notes: “Over the years, the musicians have changed. The one musician that has always been the same is Ann. So once again, it’s new musicians. The one constant thing about HELLION is Ann, and her incredible voice.”
Says Wright of working with Boleyn and HELLION: “She’s tried to stay true to that heaviness and a certain darkness. She’s sticking to the same formula, just different musicians though.”
HELLION will tour in Europe, and the UK in 2014 and are expected to appear on a number of major festivals. The cover artwork was designed by Italian artist Gaetano Di Falco and inspired by the photography of P.G. Brunelli.
