New Sammy Hagar DVD ‘Livin’ It Up! In St. Louis’ Live DVD
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, June 19 and 20, 2007, Sammy Hagar will spend two days in St. Louis rockin’ the town for the launch of his live DVD, “Livin’ It Up! In St. Louis”. Hagar will be a special guest at the St. Louis Cardinals home game at Busch Stadium on the day of the release. The following night (June 20), Hagar will host a rockin’ red-carpet fiesta and DVD screening at the Pageant Night Club in St. Louis where fans will have the opportunity to view his newly released live DVD and enjoy a very special performance of SAMMY HAGAR AND THE WABOS unplugged. The red-carpet event will have the trademark Cabo Wabo-style that Hagar is known for with Mariachi bands aplenty, tasty Mexican food and the Cabo Wabo tequila flowing. The performance will be simulcast to St.Louis’ KSHE radio and XM radio will broadcast the show the week of June 25 four separate times on its “Boneyard” program.
On “Livin’ It Up! In St. Louis” SAMMY HAGAR AND THE WABOS bring down the house on their sold-out tour in 2006 with songs from their new album, “Livin’ It Up!”, as well as some of Sammy’s famed solo work. Joined on stage for the second half of the show by legendary VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony, the band rips through some of rock radio’s classic tunes.

Also included is the “Sam I Am” music video, the making of “Sam I Am”, the “Tropic of Capricorn” music video, a “Got Cabo?” video tour of Cabo San Lucas and a “Tequila Made Me Do It” tour video.
Typically, I do not like cover albums at all. When I first read that Jorn Lande was releasing an album full of covers, my initial reaction was, “Oh Hell, here we go again.” One look at the material that Jorn is covering on Unlocking the Past, and it has to whet the appetite of any fan of late 70′s classic Rock.
It took about 30 seconds of the MSG track On and On for me to know that this was going to be one killer disc. This track is easily as good, if not better than the original.
Two of the tracks here (Burn and The Day the Earth Caught Fire) were carried over from Jorn’s debut solo disc, Starfire. Both of those tracks were awesome the first time I heard them so their inclusion here is great, especially for those that do not already own the Starfire disc.
For those of you that still think Lande doesn’t sound like David Coverdale. Take one listen to the track Fool For your Loving. Jorn stays true to the original song, and sounds as good as Coverdale ever has.
Cold Sweat is one hell of a cool cover. Metalhead’s can rejoice that this track, while true to its original, is even heavier than than the Thin Lizzy version.
After the excellent double shot Lonely is the Word / Letters from Earth, Jorn Lande gets my vote if Black Sabbath decide to look for another new singer.
Feel Like Making Love is a nice cover with a solid vocal by Jorn.
Kill the King is damn near jaw dropping. This is great stuff, even for a cover!
Perfect Strangers is one of my favorite Deep Purple tracks, so it was important to me that this song if any was done properly. Not only was this well done, Jorn knocked this one out of the park with his spot on vocals!
I must admit that I wasn’t familar with the KISS song, Naked City. This is such a different sounding track, it almost didn’t fit in with all of the hard rock classics above, but Jorn is such an amazing vocalist, he made it work here.
Unlocking the Past is undoubtedly one of the best cover albums you will ever hear. This well produced disc handles the classic rock tracks with care, all featuring the superb vocals by Jorn Lande that we have all come to love. This is one of the best discs released in 2007 so far! You have to get this!
Enjoy the track Cold Sweat below!

Ok, first off, I am an old school Def Leppard fan. I will take Pyromania and Hysteria over anything else that this band has done. I just don’t think they have done better than those two discs.
With that being said, I wanted to hate this disc. I am pretty tired of cover song albums. I prefer new material over rehashed songs any day. Strangely enough, this disc doesn’t suck.
I honestly think this is most guitar playing I have heard out of Vivian Campbell since he joined the band. Joe Elliott and the rest of the guys sound great.
I must admit some of the songs covered here, I am not familiar with. It is almost like hearing a new track for the first time. That is pretty cool.
Of the tracks I am familiar with, I really like the version of 20th Century Boy on here. I swear I have heard another band cover this tune once before but I can’t recall which band it was. This version is great!
20th Century Boy
I have never liked Rock On when it was on the radio back in the 80′s. Def Leppard’s version is definitely better than the original. No Matter What sounds almost exactly like the original Badfinger tune. Stay With Me is a killer track with Phil Collen on vocals.
Stay With Me
For all the tragedies this band has been through, its nice to see them still putting out quality music. It would be a bigger tragedy to not get another original rock CD from this great band!
Yeah! probably wont set your speakers on fire, but I am sure the Def Leppard fans out there will eat it up.
Its a good CD, and a one of the better ones that I have listened to this week.

Mike Tramp Comments On Band’s Withdrawal From POISON/RATT Tour
In response to the recent rumors surrounding WHITE LION and the POISON/RATT summer tour, WHITE LION frontman Mike Tramp has issued the following statement:
“On behalf of myself and WHITE LION, I would like to clear up the many misperceptions and rumors that have been created by Live Nation’s decision to withdraw WHITE LION as the opening act of the summer 2007 POISON tour. While we are limited in what we can say about the issue because of pending litigation, we can inform everyone that Live Nation’s decision was not based on any controversy over whether Mike Tramp has the legal right to perform as WHITE LION. Our information is that Live Nation’s decision was based upon a threatened lawsuit by former WHITE LION guitarist Vito Bratta. Even though Live Nation believed Vito’s lawsuit to be frivolous and had confirmed that Mike Tramp has the legal right to perform as WHITE LION, they did not want to spend ‘one dollar’ on litigation. Faced with the cancellation of a tour that was to begin within weeks, our attorneys went the extra mile to work out a deal with Vito Bratta to drop his threatened lawsuit but even with the threat of litigation eliminated, Live Nation continued on their ill-informed course of dropping WHITE LION from the POISON tour. Like myself, I know that there are many fans across the United States who are extremely disappointed by Live Nation’s decision and we intend to use all options to fight this arbitrary and misinformed decision. Hopefully, there will be a day when decisions about staging a rock n’ roll tour will be more about pleasing the fans and less about conservative and baseless corporate decisions. Unfortunately, as has been the case far too many times, instead of playing rock n’ roll as planned, we are going to end up in court.”
Despite the band’s removal from the POISON/RATT tour, WHITE LION will continue touring and fulfill their many headline shows in the U.S. that were scheduled between the POISON shows, including the Rocklahoma festival. Tramp has also confirmed to MelodicRock.com that the band has just finished recording its new studio album, to be released later this year. The CD will be mixed by Dennis Ward and will be titled “Return of the Pride”.
Said Mike: “WHITE LION just finished a killer show at Gods of Metal festival in Milan/Italy, and will appear on Sweden Rock June 8….It’s only just begun.”
VAINS OF JENNA will take over WHITE LION’s spot on the POISON/RATT summer tour.
A&E Gives Green Light To Third Season Of ‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels
According to Variety, the decision was an easy one: “Jewels” is A&E‘s second-highest-rated series ever in the 18-to-49 and 25-to-54 adult demographics, behind only “Dog the Bounty Hunter”. “Jewels” did even better in its second season than in its first, leaping by 15 percent in total viewers to a 1.5 million average and climbing by 11 percent in adults 18 to 49 and by 8 percent in adults 25 to 54.
A&E‘s relationship with Mr. Simmons started with a one-shot “Biography” hour of the rock legend and KISS bassist/vocalist. That “Biography” episode scored so well in the Nielsens that A&E negotiated with Mr. Simmons and “Jewels” executive producer Leslie Grief to create a 13-episode weekly half-hour series that would delve into the rock star’s life with his common-law partner, former Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed, and their teenage son and daughter.
Ex-KISS Drummer PETER CRISS: ‘One For All’ Cover Artwork Revealed
“One for All” is scheduled for release on July 24 on Silvercat Records, distributed by Sony/RED. The CD will be distributed day-and-date to fans across the globe.
An autobiographical collection of songs that Criss produced and recorded over the course of two years, “One for All” also includes several cover tunes that reflect his outlook on life at this point in his long-standing career.
The lead vocalist and co-writer of what to this day remains KISS‘ biggest Billboard hit, “Beth”, which also went on to win a People’s Choice Award, Criss goes back to his songwriting roots with this new CD. Says Criss: “The most important thing is that my fans and other people will get a whole new outlook on me with this CD. I’m reinventing myself at my own pace, and for me, it’s now, more than ever, about being true.”
“One for All” is the first fully self-produced CD that Criss has recorded — in addition to arranging and writing the lyrics and melodies for most of the material on the CD.
Joined by longtime friends and acclaimed musicians — Grammy award-winning bandleader Paul Shaffer and bassist Will Lee, as well as guitarist Mike McLaughlin — “One for All” is a variously styled project, profoundly rich in ballads that touches on all aspects of Criss‘ life, and draws on his love of rock and R&B. The title track, recorded with the Church of Transfiguration Boys Choir, was written in the wake of 9/11 and sets the tone for the CD. Other songs include: “Doesn’t Get Better Than This”, “Last Night”, “Faces in the Crowd”, “Heart Behind the Hands”, “Send in The Clowns”, and even a tribute song to his longtime bandmate and friend Ace Frehley, titled “Space Ace”.
The opening track, He’s a Woman – She’s a Man is a high speed rocking affair. It is a track that demands several replays. Roland Grapow and Michael Weikath tear it up on the guitar on this song.
The version of Jethro Tull’s Locomotive Breath is far heavier than the original. Helloween has nearly turned this into a thrash song. Very cool!
One of the strangest groups for a metal band to cover would have to be Abba. The progressive metal elements that Helloween adds to the track, Lay All of Your Love on Me, makes this one of the coolest sounding covers in a long time.
He’s a Woman, She’s A Man
Lay All of Your Love on Me
The cover of Space Oddity remains pretty true to the original, and doesn’t really add anything new. It sounds ok, and I do like the original. It would have been cool to see Helloween do something different with it, but they didn’t.
It is interesting to hear Helloween’s version of Faith No More’s From Out of Nowhere. I thought it was strange that Helloween would cover a newer track like this, considering the age of the other songs on this record. Quite frankly, I like the Faith No More version of this song better.
The super fast bass licks on the Beatles, All My Loving turn this into an interesting sounding track. It is very short, and is over in the blink of an eye.
I am sure that you have heard Hocus Pocus a thousand times on mainstream rock radio. Helloween’s version is a little bit heavier than the original. I like this version a lot.
I have not heard the original version of Faith Healer, so I do not know how it compares to the original. It takes far too long for this song to get going, and it doesn’t hold my interest.
Juggernaut is much better than the track preceding. Once again, I am not familiar with Frank Marino’s music. If it sounds anywhere near as good as this Helloween cover, then I need to be finding some of his stuff.
Helloween’s cover of the Cream song White Room, has a much heavier edge than the original version. It is an above average remake of this song. This sound of this song reminds me a bunch of older Leatherwolf tunes. It has that same kind of feel.
The final two tracks, Mexican and Rat Bat Blue didn’t really do anything for me. They are just ok.
Much like the Overkill release, Helloween’s Metal Jukebox is a solid cover disc, but not exciting enough for most fans to pick up. This is a disc that will be essential to Helloween fans only.

Foreigner is eyeing “either the end of this year or early next year” to release a new album, according to group founder Mick Jones. And it’s likely to contain a mix of both brand new and familiar material.
Jones and the reconstituted band — which features Led Zeppelin progeny Jason Bonham on drums, former Dokken bassist Jeff Pilson and Kelly Hansen on vocals — were recently in an Atlanta studio recording new versions of some of its older material, including a “stripped down” take of the 1987 hit “Say You Will.” On top of that, Jones tells Billboard.com there are “about four or five (new) songs that we have pretty much ready to go,” though he’s not yet ready to reveal titles or final recording plans.
“During the fall we’ll take a couple months off to focus in on the writing and get some new product,” Jones says. “Gradually it’s been coming. It’s just been a question of feeling out where I want to go with the music. I want it to flow naturally. I don’t want to sort of do anything consciously to go in a certain direction. I want to be guided by my inner intuitions.”
Jones has other ideas for Foreigner as well. The group is considering filming a concert DVD this year, and he says there are plans to “do a specific concert playing the whole of the ’4′ album in sequence, with a live audience. We wouldn’t play it exactly like the record, but we’d play it in the sequence and change the arrangements a little.”
There are, however, no plans to celebrate this year’s 30th anniversary of the release of Foreigner’s self-titled debut album, which sold more than four million copies and launched the hits “Feel Like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice.”
“Everybody’s conscious of” the anniversary, Jones says, “but I guess I just haven’t been dwelling on it much. I don’t think we’re even talking about it. These days, at a lot of the concerts, the front rows are tons of kids, like 18- to 25-year olds, maybe even younger, and they’re pretty much doing the same kinds of things that kids did 25, 30 years ago … a lot of underwear coming on stage!”
“I think it’s sort of incredible. It’s such a gift to look out and see that the songs have somehow survived and they’ve got almost kind of a rebirth here,” he continues.

WHITE LION To Be Part Of POISON US Tour After All?
According to BW&BK sources, WHITE LION might be on POISON’s US tour this summer after all. An official press release confirming the tour line-up is expected Monday morning (June 4th) at 9am PST. As we reported yesterday (June 2nd), VAINS OF JENNA had been officially tapped as their replacement for the tour. Rumour has it that White Lion’s apparent removal from the bill was the direct result of a cease and desist order, issued by former guitarist Vito Bratta, in regard to the use of the White Lion name.

Heaven And Hell Sets Date For Live CD/DVD
As tipped here this spring, Heaven And Hell’s March 30 concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall is headed to DVD Aug. 28 via Rhino. The aptly named “Heaven And Hell Live From Radio City” marks former Black Sabbath cohorts Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice’s first U.S. show in 15 years.
The project will be available as a two-CD set, a single-disc DVD and a deluxe three-disc edition with both the CDs and the DVD. The latter incarnation, which includes a tour program, a backstage laminate and photos, will only be available via Rhino’s Web site.
At Radio City, the group played fan favorites such as “Neon Knights, “The Mob Rules,” a 15-minute “Heaven and Hell” and two new songs, “The Devil Cried” and “Shadow of the Wind.”
“By calling it Heaven And Hell, you know exactly what you’re getting and it doesn’t interfere with anything,” Iommi told Billboard.com in March. “There’s no, ‘Is it really Black Sabbath?’ and all that rubbish. Of course, we have been out as Black Sabbath with this lineup, so we could do it. But I think it’s best to go as Heaven And Hell
The band is playing summer festivals internationally in the coming weeks, and will return to North America for more shows in early September.
Here is the track list for “Heaven And Hell Live From Radio City”:
“E5150/After All (The Dead)”
“The Mob Rules”
“Children of the Sea”
“The Sign of the Southern Cross”
“The Devil Cried”
“Falling Off the Edge of the World”
“Shadow of the Wind”
“Heaven and Hell”
“Lonely Is the Word”

Produced by Don Was at Hensen Recording Studios in Hollywood, “Poison’d” packs 13 explosive tracks, including new recordings of DAVID BOWIE’s “Suffragette City”, THE CARS’ “You’re Just What I Needed”, THE ROMANTICS’ “What I Like About You”, SWEET’s “Little Willy”, THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND’s “Can’t You See” and THE ROLLING STONES’ “Dead Flowers”. Some of POISON’s best previously recorded covers are also featured on “Poison’d”, including KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite”, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD’s “We’re An American Band” and LOGGINS AND MESSINA’s “Your Mama Don’t Dance”.

MTV Unplugged returns with the Police and Bon Jovi
EW YORK (Billboard) – MTV’s on-again, off-again “Unplugged” program will return in a big way this summer, with new episodes featuring the Police, Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney, Mary J. Blige and John Mayer.
This time around, however, the show will be rolled out on a variety of related channels and platforms, including VH1, CMT and MTV.com.
Bon Jovi will usher in the 2007 edition of the series beginning June 22 on MTV. The next two evenings, VH1 and CMT will air a version of “Unplugged” specifically tailored to those channels’ audiences.
Bon Jovi is credited with inspiring the “Unplugged” format after its stripped-down performance on the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards. The group’s appearance coincides with its new country-tinged album, “Lost Highway,” due in stores June 19.
No information has yet been unveiled about the other tapings, although the Police will reportedly hold their “Unplugged” show in mid-July in Miami.
Kirk Hammett: New CD is the best we have done in 15 Years!
METALLICA’s KIRK HAMMETT: New CD Is ‘Best Album We’ve Done In Fifteen Years’
Austria’s Krone.at recently conducted an interview with METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett. A rough English-language translation of the interview (which was published in German on the Krone.at web site) follows:
Krone.at: We are looking forward to METALLICA‘s “Sick Of The Studio ’07″ tour. Has the itching in your fingers started, yet?
Kirk Hammett: Oh yeah, summer time is always a good time to get out and do some shows. It’s the time of the festivals and the weater is nice and warm, everyone’s in a good mood. It’s really fun for us and really convenient to go out and do some shows in the summer. It isn’t so much that we’re sick of the studio as it is, we just wanna go out and play and have some fun. And not lose touch of what we are, being a live band. It seems we were in the studio for the last two years. Although we did play some shows last year, but it still seems like we’ve been in the studio forever.
Krone.at: So it’s kind of a withdrawal symptom…
Kirk Hammett: Yes, exactly. We need treatment!
Krone.at: I got the pleasure to see the show of yours on last year’s Novarock festival. The one were you had Lemmy Kilmister and that guy from ALICE IN CHAINS on stage…
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, I remember. That was fun…
Krone.at: You know, people still talk about that concert here. Was is that terrific from your point of view as well?
Kirk Hammett: Well, whenever we can get Lemmy on stage and play a couple of songs with him, that’s always a terrific thing. ‘Cause Lemmy, he’s the guy, one of the grandfathers of heavy metal.
Krone.at: Do you remember some other things about Austria or from that day?
Kirk Hammett: Let’s see. Well, we played a series of songs from the “Masters of Puppets” album, we played with Lemmy and then we left. (laugh) But Austria is just a beautiful place, Vienna’s a beautiful city with a lot of history and beautiful museums I must say. I always love coming here for sure…
Krone.at: I can hardly imagine you strolling through a Viennese museum…
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, I’ve been to a couple of them. I am the museum kind of guy, believe it or not!
Krone.at: Okay, got me convinced. Why “Sick Of The Studio” anyway? Would you say that you’re addicted to cheering crowds?
Kirk Hammett: Totally! If I played my guitar and I looked up, do I wanna see the other three guys of the band or do I wanna see 30,000 cheering people? (laugh) It depends on what mood I am in. If I am in the mood to do some creative things, write some songs, record an album, then I’d rather look into the rest of the band. But if I’m in the mood to just rock out and really have fun and play our best material, I’d rather look up and see a 30,000 fans out there.
Krone.at: You’re taking a lot of bands on you tour, most of them are American but all the concerts take place in Europe. So, is our continent a better place to rock your ass off?
Kirk Hammett: Absolutely! You know, Europe in general is a lot more appreciative of heavy metal than other regions. Heavy metal never really went away in Europe, it took kind’a step aside though. Whereas heavy metal in America was popular fifteen years ago, then it ran out of popularity and now it’s just popular again. I mean, you go where people appreciate your music. I don’t wanna say there isn’t anyone who doesn’t appreciate the music in the states — I’d just say that there are more people in Europa appreciating our music and heavy metal itself.
Krone.at: Is there a difference in the temper of the people as well?
Kirk Hammett: When we come over to Europe the audiences usually go nuts! (laughs) They are very passionate about our music. We can tell — it’s very obvious to us, when we play songs how the audience reacts to our music — the Europeans just go nuts! They are a lot more informed about the band, they know more about the band and its history. Also about the music and the lyrics. It’s more than just popularity, in Europe they really go out and try to get to know the band.
Krone.at: Can you tell me some things about the new album you’re working on?
Kirk Hammett: I think it’s the best album we’ve put out in, say, fifteen years.
Krone.at: Oh, but that rules out quite a lot of work you’ve done in the past!
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, it’s our eleventh studio album, but it feels like our sixth. It’s just a really spectacular range of songs. This time we’re not afraid to refer to our past music in order to create future music. People will see that we’ve kind of embraced our old vocabulary again and are using that vocabulary to express new things. I’m super excited to make this album, finish it and release it — ’cause then we can go out and play it to the people. We might have stretched our cores a little too much in the last fifteen years, but we’ve always came back to what we originally are and have been. I think with this album we’re definitely going a little more back into our roots.
Krone.at: Does this mean, you’re heading from “St. Anger” as a start further into, let’s say, the raw meat!?
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, it’s super raw! There are some songs on that album that are so fast, that James and I kinda look at each other and go, “Ouch! Our wrist are gonna fall off.” There are a lot of really, really fast songs, a whole lot of really heavy stuff. We changed our approach to writing the songs, all of us were working on the material this time. We also changed our tuning. With “St. Anger” we had the guitars really low. This time, we tuned the guitars back up to what they originally were for the first five albums. Because we’ve done that, James‘ voice sounds more like it did in the ’80s than it did in the ’90s. There’s a lot of changes that we’ve made, but I believe that they are all for the better.
Krone.at: Was there a need to go back to the roots and avoid melodies and slow stuff because of the rise of bands like 30 SECONDS TO MARS, for example, or some other emo, nu metal, whatever you may call it band?
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, you know. I don’t really understand what emo, the description means…
Krone.at: Well, me neither…
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, every time when I ask my friends about those things, they give me answer that simply doesn’t explain anything. (laugh) I’ll tell you, there are some melodic songs that we’ve written, that do have a lot of melody. I myself would like to see this songs go on the album. But wheter they do or not remains to be seen. We do have a lot of songs, but only nine or ten will make it on the actual album. But there definitely are some songs that are in some ways slower and melodic — but they do get heavy at some point during the song.
Krone.at: Your music often deals with anger, rage and feelings — regarding the emotional side, it probably does more often than a classic opera. Do you think, especially yours, is a good way to express rage, deal with anger and just lose it?
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, right. I totally agree. I know that when I am just really mad, really pissed of and I wanna take it out on something, I know that playing this music just makes me feel so much better, because I can just listen to music and scream and yell an thrash around — and afterwards I feel much better. I feel much better than going to Wal-Mart, picking up a gun and going to a high school shooting thirdy people. You know what I mean? The thereapeutic side of music is so tremendous and valuable, because it keeps people from doing drastic things and drawing measures. You know, if all people would go to a heavy metal concert from time to time, there would be a lot off less crime in the world. People will always have to get rid of their anger, and there will always be heavy metal living with them.
Krone.at: We’re looking forward to you eleventh studio album, like you said. METALLICA turns 26 this year; what is it that still drives you to take on the challenge of pushing the limits, your career and the heavy metal genre itself? What’s the competition?
Kirk Hammett: I think the comepetition is trying to compete with what you’ve done in the past. Competing with yourself. We’ve been doing this for so long, like you said, twenty-five, twenty-six years — I lost count. But I can’t fix a toilet, Lars can’t fix a vehicle — James probably can. (laugh) We make music and we wanna make the best music out there. We wanna make music that holds on his own and is creativly stimulating. To me that’s the challenge, coming up with something new and creative. Creating great music and then go out there and have fun with. To me, that’s the real competition to see if we can do it better than we did last time. In the past, I’ll be the first one to admit, we haven’t done a few times not as good as we used to. At least, we hadn’t done it as good as the previous time. But the fact that we still wanna do it is really important. We still wanna be able to go on tour and make albums and just do the best that we possibly can.
Krone.at: But from this point of view, it’s a neverending story, isn’t it? Can you imagine, just imagine, putting an end to it at some time in the future?
Kirk Hammett: Well, that’s a good question and I don’t know if I can answer that!? THE ROLLING STONES — Keith Richards is sixty years old and is still doing it, and I can tell that he loves doing it. Mick Jagger, Ron Wood — those guys are still having a lot of fund. As long as they can do it — they are pushing the age-limit to do this sort of things. If Keith Richards is sixty years old and still doing it — why can’t I just do when I am sixty years old? It might be kind of funny playing “Seek and Destroy” when you’re sixty. But if people still wanna see us playing “Seek and Destroy” when we’re sixty years old — I’ll do it in a heartbeat!
Krone.at: When was the last day you can think of, when you didn’t touch any guitar?
Kirk Hammett: Mmh… probably last week. And the reason for that was, my baby-son. I was doing baby stuff all day…
Krone.at: At least it’s a good excuse…
Kirk Hammett: Yeah! (laugh) I still try to play as much guitar as I possibly as much as I can. Now that we’re in the studio, I try even harder.
Krone.at: I was standing right in the middle of the crowd during that concert of yours last year on Novarock festival. What I noticed was, that people began to ball up their fist, as soon as you conquered the stage. Before, with all the other acts, people just did this yeah-thing with the two fingers stretched away. Do you have an explanation for this?
Kirk Hammett: They believe in us. That’s the only explanation I can give. They believe in the power of the music, in the fact that we can deliver it. They believe in what he have to say musically and lyrically. I think that’s it. Either that, or they were really mad at us. (laugh) No, I’m joking. They really believe in us and what we have to say. And that’s good, because we’re working really hard and it’s good, seeing other people recognizing what we believe in and at the same time taking on this believe. It’s like the most beautiful and — not only is it beautiful, it has such integritiy. It’s a great and powerful thing. I feel very fortunate to be in a space were complete strangers show you their belief in what you’re doing.
Krone.at: Heavy metal associated or combined with a distinctive style of clothing, of behaviour and appearance. You know, the leather trousers, the band-t-shirts, and so on; what do you think is most fascinating about the genre, the music and the people in heavy metal?
Kirk Hammett: Again, people believe in it. It’s because people are outcasts. There are lot of outcasts, a lot of disaffected people, a lot of people who don’t really fit in for whatever reason or another. You know, becoming a part of a movement or a musical movement like heavy metal gives people who never really fitted in a tense to fit in. Heavy metal provides a look, an attitude, a way of thinking and a way of drinking (laughs) for people who don’t fit into the normal patterns of life. That’s why heavy metal attracts so many different kinds of people. That’s why I think heavy metal is truly understood all over the world. Unlike Latin music, for example, which can hardly be understood if you don’t belong to that culture or at least know it very well. Heavy metal is not attached to any sort of ethnic idea or some sort of tradition; although it is a tradition in itself, but it’s not traditional. You can come from anywhere, Africa, Australia or Argentina and hear heavy metal and unterstand it. Again, that’s the most powerful thing about heavy metal. It’s just an incredible thing for me to watch, to go travel the world and see all these different kinds of people, rushing into one kind of music and one kind of attitude. It’s amazing. Heavy metal is a very human type of music. Human! I just love it!
Krone.at: Since we talked about looks and feel… Last question: How long are you having that haircut of yours? Fifteen years, twenty years?
Kirk Hammett: Are you saying, when am I gonna cut it? No, you mean, if I wanna maintain this look, is that what you’re saying?
Krone.at: Yeah, basically…
Kirk Hammett: Well, I’m wearing long hair since the first day I can think of. No, I’m not gonna cut it! But it starts to fall out…
Krone.at: So, with sixty, you’re gonna play bald — but loud…
Kirk Hammett: Yes, (laugh) bald and loud, loud and bald….
Krone.at: Thank you for the interview, Kirk.
Kirk Hammett: Yeah, see you in Austria!

Nuno Bettencourt writing new songs with Steve Perry!
Former EXTREME and current SATELLITE PARTY guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has told The Boston Herald that he is writing material with legendary JOURNEY frontman Steve Perry. No further information is currently available.
In other news, the original lineup of EXTREME — Gary Cherone (vocals, ex-VAN HALEN), Nuno Bettencourt (guitar), Paul Geary (drums), and Pat Badger (bass) — reunited for a benefit concert and auction in New York City in honor of music manager Steven Hoffman. Hoffman, who worked with RUSH, VAN HALEN and EXTREME, died of lung cancer in 2003. The event took place on May 18 at the 450-capacity Canal. A live and silent auction was also held to raise money for lung cancer research. Some of the items to be auctioned off included an autographed Nuno Bettencourt Washburn guitar, an autographed Geddy Lee bass and other great and rare rock n’ roll memorabilia.
EXTREME surprised members of the audience at the METAL SKOOL concert on April 9, 2007 when they climbed up on stage and performed a cover of LED ZEPPELIN‘s “Communication Breakdown” in Hollywood, California. Check out pictures from WENN.

Rocklahoma Becomes Worldwide Phenomena
According to Easier.com, ticket sales around the world are making the Rocklahoma music festival one of the most successful events of Oklahoma’s Centennial Celebration as ‘80’s rock fans will converge on the state from locations as far away as Japan, Australia and South Africa.
“The eyes of the world are on Rocklahoma,” said Mark Nuessle, General Manager of Catch the Fever Music Festivals. “Rocklahoma has struck a chord that has reverberated around the globe. We have sold tickets to ‘80’s rock fans in all 50 states and across six continents. Rocklahoma has literally become one of the largest music festivals in the world.”
Twenty-three bands are scheduled to play during the three-day festival, making Rocklahoma the largest ‘80’s rock festival of its kind to be organized. Two weeks ago, when Twisted Sister was announced as Rocklahoma’s headliner, word spread like wildfire via satellite radio and the World Wide Web. Rocklahoma’s draw is most likely a combination of the bands’ talents and the sheer number of bands playing at the event, said Dave Giencke, Director of Operations for Catch the Fever Music Festivals.
“The worldwide ticket sales we are seeing with Rocklahoma show the power these bands have held on to over all these years. One of these bands would sell-out an arena in the ‘80’s. They left their fans wanting more. Now those fans are lining up to be a part of history when, for the first time, all these bands are coming together to play in one setting,” Giencke said.
Rocklahoma’s three-day line-up includes:
Friday, July 13: POISON, RATT (NOT full reunion), QUIET RIOT, SLAUGHTER,Y&T, WHITE LION
Saturday, July 14,: VINCE NEIL, DOKKEN, WINGER, SKID ROW, WARRANT, FIREHOUSE, ENUFF Z NUFF, FASTER PUSSYCAT, BULLETBOYS, BANG TANGO
Sunday, July 15: TWISTED SISTER, W.A.S.P., JACKYL, GREAT WHITE, LA GUNS, BRITNY FOX
Rocklahoma will be held July 13-15, at the Catch the Fever Festival Grounds four miles north of Pryor, OK just off highway 69.
Tickets to Rocklahoma are currently on sale and available by calling toll free (866) 310-2288 or online at http://www.rockfeverfest.com. Tickets are:
One Day General Admission: $ 40.00 plus handling fees and tax
Three Days General Admission: $90.00 plus handling fees and tax
VIP Tickets: $275.00 plus handling fees and tax (good all three days, reserved seating, and all the beer and food you can eat).

I own the first two editions of this game and it is addictive as hell. With a playlist this cool, this game is going to be a top seller for sure!
EA Sports revealed that Ozzy’s newly released “I Don’t Wanna Stop” will be the first song on the Madden NFL 08 soundtrack. Each year, the Madden soundtrack proves to be one of the best in gaming. The complete list of songs for the 08 soundtrack will be released in the next few weeks.
This song is on the album ‘Black Rain’, which is Osbourne’s first album release since 2001. Madden was the top selling game in North America last year, and has a great chance of repeating similar sales figures again. I usually listen to songs off my iPod while playing Madden, but I think this addition may make the game music a little more appealing for some. Ozzie has been in a bit of a slump for a couple years with Ozzfest getting worse every year, so perhaps the new album and being on Madden will give him the spark he needed. I look forward to finding out what other songs have made it to the Madden franchise this year.
New Velvet Revolver Video

DEF LEPPARD will be the featured musical guests on ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on the Friday, June 15 episode (which will actually air the morning of June 16 beginning at 12:05 a.m.).
This summer’s DEF LEPPARD tour is causing the band to make some schedule adjustments. They started writing material for a new album while on the road last summer, and guitarist Phil Collen told Launch they have to put that project aside for a bit, in order to get ready for the tour. “We’re actually recording, we’re actually doing a new album in Dublin, so we’re gonna have to take a break from the, the record — it’s a bit weird, ’cause our producer is also our out-front live (sound) guy — so we pack up, fly out to L.A. initially, rehearse there, and then kick off in Ohio,” he said.
DEF LEPPARD is going out this year with STYX and FOREIGNER. The tour starts June 27 in Cincinnati.
The working title for the album is “Sparkle Lounge”, but that could change.

New Great White disc coming in August
Since reuniting in January 2007 to perform at a benefit concert, the original lineup of Southern California’s GREAT WHITE has moved forward and hit the studio for its first album in eight years. “It’s just like old times,” states lead singer Jack Russell. “There’s a bond that forms between people that is very special. I’ve missed my friends.”
To commemorate GREAT WHITE‘s 25th anniversary, original members Russell, Mark Kendall (lead guitar), Audie Desbrow (drums), Michael Lardie (guitar, keyboards) and Sean McNabb (bass) have been in studio the last few months writing and recording. The group’s new CD, “Back to the Rhythm”, is being mixed, produced, and engineered by Michael Lardie with all members contributing to to the final mix.
“The new songs sound fresh to me — very GREAT WHITE, but with an approach of what we sound like in a live performance situation,” explains Lardie. “Kendall and I are having fun channeling our STONES roots and playing off each other in the Richards/Woods tradition.”
With it being the band’s anniversary year, GREAT WHITE is once again ready to rock all summer long. The band will hit the road for summer shows nationwide to support “Back to the Rhythm” (Shrapnel Records).
The Southern California blues-rock band first took a bite out of the rock scene in 1984 and has since achieved worldwide success, amassing sales of over six million records. They received a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for the song “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” and earned a double-platinum certification for the album “…Twice Shy”.
The late ’80s were boom years for the band, marked by non-stop touring with some of the biggest bands of the era and playing also in Europe and Japan. GREAT WHITE recorded two more albums for Capitol — “Hooked”, which was certified gold, and “Psycho City”.
Although Capitol issued a “best-of” compilation in 1993, GREAT WHITE had already left the label to begin work on its next studio release, “Sail Away”, released on Zoo Records in 1994. “Let It Rock” followed in 1996.
GREAT WHITE then signed with Portrait Records, an imprint founded by A&R guru John Kalodner that featured fellow hard rock acts such as RATT. “Can’t Get There from Here” was released in 1999 and is the band’s last studio opus thus far.
Shrapnel Records plans to release the newest album at the end of August 2007.

Sharon Osbourne vs. Gene Simmons?
Entertainmentwise.com reports that more foul-mouthed words have come out of the mouth of Sharon Osbourne, and this time Gene Simmons is the one on the receiving end.
Speaking to Blender magazine, Sharon sums up her feelings towards the KISS bassist: “[Simmons] said that our kids are on drugs and that his aren’t messed up like that. He’ll always be C-list, and his wife’s snatch has been rubbed on every pole in L.A. I’ll fucking tear his head off and stick it up his wife’s cunt!”
Gene‘s reality-TV program “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” has been described as an “Osbournes”-style reality show about the Simmons family, with camera crews tracking their every move as they perform both remarkable and mundane everyday tasks.
When asked in a 2004 interview what he thought about the trend of celebrities sharing their lives through reality TV, Gene said, “It was bound to happen, and every show is only as good as the celebrity that’s involved. Ozzy‘s is still magnificent, because Ozzy‘s not a faker, Ozzy is what he is. Everybody sees it as a comedy, but I see it as very sad. I’ve known Ozzy for twenty-five or thirty years. The one thing nobody ever says at the beginning of a show is, ‘Please don’t use drugs, otherwise you’ll end up like me.’ Because all the shaking and the stuttering and all that — Ozzy‘s come clean on that — it’s because he’s done that to himself. And it’s sad, because when the cameras go away, the same person is a real human being, it’s not just a TV show. And yet, every day of the week, there are new fifteen-year-old kids saying, ‘Let’s get in the car and get high.’ And I’m thinking, ‘Another idiot is born.’”
Rock of Love with Bret Michaels
“Extra” profiled POISON singer Bret Michaels, who is one of the men being offered on the show’s “Eligible Bachelor” contest. Watch a clip, where Bret talks about what he looks for in a woman, here.
As previously reported, Michaels will be looking for love in a new VH1 series from the producers of the network’s hit “Flavor of Love”.
According to Reuters, the cable network is set to debut a 10-episode reality series titled “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels” in July. The show will feature Michaels looking for a woman who can keep up with his rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and not become jealous of his one true passion — performing — which is said to be the reason for and destruction of most of his relationships.
The women, who will live with Michaels in his “Los Angeles rock palace,” will be put through various challenges in a test of their devotion to him as well as their understanding of everything rock ‘n’ roll. Those who win these challenges will join Michaels on “wild and exclusive excursions,” while “those who can’t hang like true backstage VIPs will be escorted out in bona fide rock star fashion,” VH1 said.
Ozzy Osbourne was on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night. He was a guest and performed a couple of songs (I Don’t Wanna Stop, Bark at the Moon) at the end of the show. Ozzy looks to be in very good health and was very upbeat.
Kimmel asked Ozzy about why he decided to make Ozzfest free this year, and he said, “Ask my wife, she is f**king nuts”!
Poison, Police play 80s Guitar Hero Encore
“Synchronicity II” and “Nothing But a Good Time” to be feature on slightly retitled PS2 rhythm game; Billy Squier, Eddie Money, Faster Pussycat, Skid Row, and Extreme also on board.
Just under two weeks ago, Activision officially confirmed that it was prepping a special 1980s-themed Guitar Hero title. Titled Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s, the game is the last in the series to be developed by now-MTV-owned Harmonix, and will ship for the PlayStation 2 this summer. The publisher also announced four songs that would be covered in the game: “Round and Round” by Ratt, “I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow, “Metal Health” by Quiet Riot, “Holy Diver” by Ronnie James Dio, and “Heat of the Moment” by Asia. In addition, Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s will feature two original tracks: Flock of Seagulls’ “I Ran” and “I Wanna Rock” by Twisted Sister.
Today, Activision revealed seven more covers that would be featured in the game: Skid Row’s “18 and Life,” Faster Pussycat’s “Bathroom Wall,” Billy Squier’s “Lonely is the Night,” Poison’s “Nothing But a Good Time,” Extreme’s “Play With Me” Eddie Money’s “Shaken,” and “Synchronicity II” by the recently reformed Police. As of now, 13 of the 30 songs that will be featured in the game are known, with others to be undoubtedly revealed bit by bit over the coming weeks.
Besides unveiling the expanded song list, Activision also tweaked the title of the game formerly known as Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s. Henceforth, it will be known as Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s–perhaps presaging a whole retro “Encore” subfranchise to the Guitar Hero series. However, no such spin-off had been officially confirmed as of press time.

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – Recordings made in May 1983 by Rapidfire, a former Los Angeles rock band that included Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose, will be available on CD.
Attorney for Kevin Lawrence, former guitarist of Rapidfire has been working with Rose’s attorney to reach an acceptable agreement, but the recordings, which have been kept in storage, will be released regardless.
In an interview with The Rock Radio.com, Lawrence had this to say: “I considered Axl a friend, I am trying to work beyond the scope of my legal rights with him, out of my respect and admiration for him. Regardless, though, if in the future he chooses not to cooperate, the CD will come out commercially.” The CD package will also include pictures of Axl Rose that pre-date his tattoos.
When the Rapidfire recordings will be released has not yet been determined, but it may be before the long-delayed Guns N’ Roses, “Chinese Democracy.”
The band, Rapidfire consisted of Axl Rose, Kevin Lawrence, Mike Hammernik, and Chuck Gordon.
The 1983 recorded songs are:
“Ready To Rumble”
“All Night Long”

MEGADETH’s new album, “United Abominations”, has entered the U.K. chart at No. 23, making it the band’s highest-charting LP in the U.K. since 1994′s “Youthanasia”, which peaked at No. 6. MEGADETH’s last album, “The System Has Failed”, debuted at No. 60 on the U.K. chart. “United Abominations” also debuted at No. 23 on the official Australian ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) chart.
You can read the Hard Rock Hideout review here!
In other news, MEGADETH have cracked Amazon.ca’s (Amazon Canada) Top 10 bestseller list. The album peaked at No. 5 and currently sits at No. 8.
According to Hits Daily Double, MEGADETH is on track to sell around 60,000 copies of its latest CD, “United Abominations”, in the United States in its first week of release to land in the Top 10 (possibly Top 5) of the Billboard chart. This is more than the 46,000 first-week tally registered by its predecessor, “The System Has Failed” (which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart), and is in line with the 61,000 opening number of 2001′s “The World Needs A Hero” (No. 16).
On March 25, MEGADETH taped a special “invite-only” set and took part in a question-and-answer session at the Musique Plus studios in Montreal, Quebec. The band played four songs — “Washington Is Next”, “Sleepwalker”, “Gears of War” and “A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)” — for a Musique Plus special that aired yesterday (May 15), the street date of MEGADETH’s new album, “United Abominations”. JON OLIVA’S PAIN Drummer Issues Update On Upcoming Album
Drummer Christopher Kinder of JON OLIVA’S PAIN, the band led by SAVATAGE mastermind Jon Oliva, has issued the following update:
“Now that the spring touring is finally in the can, we thought it was time to update you with some detailed info on JON OLIVA’S PAIN [album] #3…coming soon to a store near you! Actually it will be January/February 2008, but that’s not really that far off. For JON OLIVA’S PAIN, the record has to be delivered by late October so we don’t really have much time to dick around before we begin the high-energy, comedy-filled recording sessions we all live for… (Frode, leave your evil twin in Norway…hehehe).
“Now before we get into the actual record, we’ll fill you in on some of our plans for this CD. AFM has picked up the option for the next release. In other words, we must have sold enough records to put some cash in AFM’s pockets so they’ll try another one with us and see if we can raise the roof even higher this time. We are thrilled to be working with them once again. They believed in the band, and the music and they did their jobs. It is a win-win for everyone, including the fans.
“So in light of that development, Oliva wanted to raise the bar with the packaging of the new disc. We have no say over the number of different releases or decisions that the label has the rights to. What we can do is try to bring something fresh and give you the fans every reason possible to go out and buy JON OLIVA’S PAIN’s music.
‘We have decided on a multi-media presentation that should blow everyone’s minds. Sorry, we can’t give you the sorted details just yet, but if memory serves us right we can only think of one other band that has ever done what we are going to do for all of you. We will say this….there will be plenty of studio footage available for your viewing pleasure as well. It is our sincere intention to bring as much of the recording experience to you as possible. Anyone who has had the chance to witness one of our sessions knows exactly what we are talking about… it’s simply priceless and we could easily make a hit reality TV show out of it!… It’s that funny!
“Now the CD: We have settled on a sort of ‘theme’ and are awaiting the official OK from AFM. It’s not a concept record (yikes!) but each song will tell a story that binds it all together. It’s going to be a very dark presentation! Oliva is not a happy man, and he is going to write all about it. Expect some of the darkest lyrics he has ever written, but the messages are important and real! Experimenting musically a bit more on this record seems logical for us. We all have a great many ideas to add to Oliva’s already brilliant songwriting, and we are purposely going to look at anything and everything we can to make these songs as interesting as possible. Oliva’s music will always sound like Oliva… so no matter what crazy idea or sound we come up with, the end result will never be sacrificed.
“We are working on a 10-minute opening opus that will clearly set the tone for the rest of the CD. Currently we have 15 working titles, more Criss Oliva riffs to add and massive amounts of arrangments left to do. But the framework is there, and tonight Oliva, Kevin and I will begin the daunting task of sifting through everything we have so far… chopping, dicing, and mixing whatever is necessary to achieve another 60 minutes of magic… as best we can. You are going to hear some things from Oliva that you probably never heard before. But that is the genius of his writing skills….he is finding new ways to incorporate different elements but always managing to preserve his unique style.
“Matt and Zahner will probably begin working with us again later this week. Pre-production at Audio should officially commence in the next month or so and once we have the final arrangements and basic recordings, Kevin and I will begin preparing to cut our tracks sometime in July or early August.
“JON OLIVA’S PAIN dealt with a lot of unnecessary turmoil and anxiety during the first few weeks of the recording of ‘Maniacal Renderings’. We will never put ourselves in that position again. Rothney and I want ample time to come up with the best performances we can… because we know it’s not going to be easy matching or beating ‘Maniacal Renderings’… but we sure are going to try!”
“Maniacal Renderings” entered the German national chart at position No. 86 upon its release in September 2006.
New Nikki Sixx CD, SIXX A.M. on the way in August.
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx is putting the finishing touches on “The Heroin Diaries” soundtrack, which will be released on August 21 under the band name SIXX: A.M. According to Sixx, “All 13 tunes are done. James [Michael] is just mixing the last few now and the album will be completely done next week.” He adds, “What a huge body of work we’ve pulled off. We’re all proud to have this album under our wings.”
On Tuesday May 22, Sixx and UGO.com will premiere the video for “Life Is Beautiful”, the first single from “The Heroin Diaries”. The song is performed by Nikki Sixx, DJ Ashba (ex-BEAUTIFUL CREATURES), and James Michael.
“The Heroin Diaries” CD is a precursor to Sixx’s autobiography of the same name, which arrives September 25. The album’s 12 tracks each match up with one chapter in the book; “Life Is Beautiful” can be streamed from the book’s MySpace.com page.
“The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star” offers an unflinching and utterly gripping look at Sixx’s descent into drug addiction with a soundtrack, featuring James Michael and DJ Ashba (ex-BEAUTIFUL CREATURES), to match.
In this candid memoir, Nikki Sixx — MÖTLEY CRÜE’s bassist and main songwriter — recounts the band’s heyday. “The Heroin Diaries” takes readers along on one of the most breathless and harrowing roller coaster rides in the history of pop music. At its heart lies the author’s nightmare come true: a punishing heroin addiction that brought him and the band to the edge of losing much more than just their spot on the charts. Serving up snapshots of rock culture at its most manic, this insider’s look at triumph and tragedy is every bit as explosive as the musical odyssey it chronicles.
“The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star” will come out through MTV Books/Simon & Schuster. The accompanying original concept soundtrack will be released by Eleven Seven Music and distributed by ADA, with a portion of proceeds donated to Nikki’s Running Wild in the Night, a fundraising initiative for Covenant House. The book is a tell-all covering 12 months in Sixx’s battle against addiction, drawn from Nikki’s 1986 and ’87 journals, and reportedly makes CRÜE’s celebrated “Dirt”, now being made into a motion picture, sound like Mary Poppins.

Thanks to Allyson’s photography, I got the shot above. Be sure to check out Allyson’s post on the even at Bring Back Glam!
If you get the chance to check out the cover bands Poser or GNR, please go. Both bands are very kick ass, and worth seeing.

Here is an excerpt from the press release:
Marco is one of the most respected and well known musicians in the Los Angeles music scene. According to Ted Nugent, “Marco is the world’s greatest bass player and he’s got the soul.” He also played with the likes of Thin Lizzy (with whom he’s been recently touring UK and going to appear live during the summer), WHITESNAKE, BLUE MURDER, OZZY OSBOURNE and THE CRANBERRIES.
Though most often recognized for his jaw-dropping 6-string fretless bass chops, Marco is a master of the 4, 5 and 6-string fretted bass, too. But that’s not enough. In Live For Tomorrow, his debut solo album, Marco shows his hidden vocal talent, which just needs to be heard to be believed! Mixing different vocals styles from the bluesy David Coverdale and Paul Rodgers ranges to the Eric Martin-esque overtones, Mendoza shines as a singer that is able to deliver a passionate and strong performance in every song.
Live For Tomorrow was mostly written and produced by Marco during the second half of 2006 and the beginning of 2007, together with former Poison and Mr. Big guitarist Richie Kotzen, who also produced the album. Musically the record offers a sincere and down to earth sound, reminiscing of classic Hard Rock (with hints to AC/DC, MR BIG, DAMN YANKEES etc.) with blues and melodic Rock roots.
Some very special guests appear to tribute the talent of this amazing guy. Among them: Ted Nugent, Doug Aldrich (of Whitesnake) and Steve Lukather of TOTO all offer guitar solos appearances, Tommy Aldridge of Whitesnake and Brian Tichy (PRIDE AND GLORY, OZZY OSBOURNE, FOREIGNER, and BILLY IDOL) play drums while Richie Kotzen of course handles the bulk of guitars and duets on vocals with Marco on ‘I Want You’.
Live For Tomorrow will include the following cuts: ‘Not For Me’, ‘Live For Tomorrow’, ‘Lettin’ Go’, ‘Look Out For The Boys’, ‘I Want You’, ‘Your Touch’, ‘Let The Sun Shine’, ‘You Got Me’, ‘In My Face’, ‘Broken’, ‘Still In Me’, ‘Dance With Me.’
Live For Tomorrow will see a North American release on Locomotive and Japanese release on King.

OZZY OSBOURNE‘s video for his new single, “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, will receive its online premiere this Friday, May 18 at Headbangersblog.com.

There is a lot to talk about, but nothing more important than this:
This is a night I have been hoping for, for many years now; the night before a “fierce new Megadeth release.”
I want to tell you all how much I love you and how many times I have felt like I was going to explode in anticipation just watching you hear United Abominations for the first time.
It’s no secret how much we care about each other here at Megadeth.com and Myspace/Megadeth and I wish I could be there with you, hanging out, to share the moment and chat with you, and hear your excitement when you are done experiencing U.A. for the first time.
But I have a secret for you… it is going to get better every time you listen to it.
I want you to know we thought of every one of you, each time we sang, and we thought of each one of you, each time we played. We were so excited about you hearing this, because WE like it. And that is a kewl thing.
Your love for Megs has fired me up to make a record that I love, beyond just about anything I have ever done.
I would like to say a li’l prayer that each one of you would know how much I love you and appreciate your support…. even the assholes.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
DIO guitarist Craig Goldy has joined West Virginia melodic hard rockers HYDROGYN.
Comments Goldy: “While Ronnie is touring and recording with HEAVEN AND HELL, I am proud to announce my journey with HYDROGYN. I am looking forward to writing, recording and touring with them during the all too often well-known ‘hiatus’ of the band DIO.
Craig continues: “It’s quickly become much more than a ‘one-off’ situation with HYDROGYN. During the negotiation process involved in our mutual desire to work together, we forged a strong bond that I believe will continue well into the future in all aspects of an endevour such as this one has become.
“Upon Ronnie’s return I will be anxiously awaiting the writing, recording and touring that will follow and highly anticipating an awesome CD release alongside my family Ronnie, Rudy, Simon and Scott. Until then I will be operating at my fullest potential with HYDROGYN, with whom I’ve also been honored to form a long-term friendship with and build an alliance with DA Records and my program Destiny Bridge. It is my sincere hope and desire to continue in this capacity long into the future.”
HYDROGYN founding guitarist Jeff Westlake states: “Guitarist Jeff Boggs’s departure is due to family commitments and we totally appreciate and understand it. Craig coming into the band is awesome and I look forward to what is ahead both professionally and personally with Craig. I have had time to get to know him and we click very well. This next CD should be off the hook.”
The band is currently in writing sessions on both the East and West Coast for HYDROGYN’s upcoming third studio album, the follow-up to “Bombshell”.
HYDROGYN will support the release of their new studio CD with major touring worldwide.

The Past is Back to Kick Your Ass, and I am bring a size 12 boot!
Kathy Parker of Oklahoma’s Pryor Daily Times reports: Mayes County is bracing for the big hair invasion.
Rob Rogers, director of productions for Catch the Fever Music Festivals, cannot say enough about Rocklahoma, an ’80s rock festival coming July 13-15.
Rocklahoma will feature hard rock bands popular in the ’80s such as GREAT WHITE, QUIET RIOT, POISON, RATT and WHITE LION.
Although Country Fever will happen first, June 7-10, at the facility between Adair and Pryor, Rogers talked almost exclusively about Rocklahoma when he visited Adair.
“These people do have money and they will put it into the community,” Rogers said. “The first week of sales outsold Country Fever and the VIP sold out first.”
VIP seats are up front and include non-alcoholic drinks, beer, parking, lunch and dinner. To make sure enough VIP seats will be available, Rogers said, a $1 million renovation is being completed at Catch the Fever’s facility.
Rocklahoma is happening in Oklahoma, but it was announced at a press conference in Los Angeles. Since then, Rogers said tickets have been sold to people in 15 countries, four Canadian provinces and all 50 states.
“We expect 50,000 to 60,000 people each day,” Rogers said. “Every hotel room is booked in a 50- to 70-mile radius. People are thinking about renting their houses.
“This isn’t a four-state area thing. This is worldwide. The numbers just keep going daily.”
Rogers said the festival will be broadcast on world-wide pay for view television and the VH1 music channel.
Y&T DVD in the works
Legendary California rockers Y&T have pushed back the projected release date for their first-ever DVD to late June for Europe, July for the U.S., and August for the Pacific Rim and the rest of the world. The two-disc set will include a two-hour concert filmed on October 8, 2006 in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands (at Cultuurpodium Boerderij) on one DVD and a second bonus DVD containing backstage footage, soundcheck, outtakes, Bang Your Head!!! festival 2006 footage, and more. Also included will be a live audio CD of the Zoetermeer concert.
To commemorate Y&T‘s newly remastered, re-released “In Rock We Trust” CD, Karen Alvarez of Tribute Video Productions recently created a cool video for Y&T‘s 1984 song “Rock & Roll’s Gonna Save The World”. Watch it at YouTube.
Y&T celebrated the reissues of “Earthshaker” (1981) and “In Rock We Trust” (1984) by performing both albums in their entirety on March 17 at the Independent in San Francisco.
Re-released in February, “Earthshaker” “was carefully digitally re-mastered in November 2006 at a high sampling rate taken directly from the 1/2″ analog master tape. This new CD captures the sounds of the original mixes like no other version available.” Also reissued in January, “In Rock We Trust” was “carefully digitally re-mastered in November 2006 at a high sampling rate taken directly from the digital master tape,” according to a posting on the band’s site. “This new CD sounds clear and open like no other version previously available. Along with the original songs, there is an additional bonus track of the rarely heard studio recording of ‘Go for the Throat’.”

JOURNEY will premiere a new song this weekend, when the band plays a show commemorating the 400th anniversary of the first British settlement in the US.
The track is called ‘Winds Of Freedom’, and a rough demo version was just laid down last week.
Lead singer Jeff Scott Soto wrote on the Journey message board, “It sounds killer if I might say so, a testament of what’s to come. It starts off kinda like ‘When You Love A Woman’, but it’s not a traditional Journey ballad, especially lyrically.”
The song will have its world premiere on Saturday (May 12th), when Journey performs at the America’s Cup Of Polo match between the US and English teams at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia. The event is being held to mark the 400th anniversary of British settlement in America, on May 14th, 1607, in Jamestown in what is now Virginia.
Journey will open the event with a version of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’, then return after the polo match to play a full set, which will include ‘Winds Of Freedom’. Proceeds will go to the non-profit Journey For The Cure, which supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the MS Society for research into multiple sclerosis.
This will be Journey’s last show for the foreseeable future. Plans are underway to record a new album, with a release possible early next year.

CLAY MILLICAN TO RUN RATT TRIBUTE DRAGSTER
Stephen Pearcy and the rock band RATT enjoyed their 1980s drag racing exposure so much that they are back for more – literally. Two decades later, their name will be emblazoned on the Clay Millican-driven, Evan Knoll dragster for the balance of the 2007 NHRA POWERade tour promoting their upcoming June tour with another popular Eighties icon band Poison.
The RATT – Back for More dragster will make its debut in two weeks at Bristol Dragway’s O’Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, May 18 – 20.
Knoll, an admitted heavy metal and rock and roll aficionado, has been chomping at the bit to get the tour underway.
“I can remember rocking in the Eighties to RATT,” Knoll said. “When I cranked up my stereo, everyone in the neighborhood knew I was listening to RATT. Come to think of it … nothing has changed. I still like it loud. The neighbors still complain about the noise.
“Top Fuel and RATT makes the perfect combination.”
Plans include various appearances at NHRA POWERade events for Pearcy including Bristol. RATT’s last foray into drag racing was during the 1986 season on the side of Dale Pulde’s legendary Buick Somerset Regal Funny Car.
“NHRA Drag racing is like RATT–n-ROLL … colorful, fast, dangerous and exciting,” Pearcy said “To be partnered with such an ‘A’ level program with Evan Knoll, Latrell Preston, Clay Millican and Dan Pikarsky just blows our mind. The band is more than ready to ‘Lay It Down’ with Clay that ‘River-RATT’ from Memphis. We’re all extremely excited to support SKULL GEAR, KNOLL Gas Motorsports and TORCO. The boys and I can’t wait for that first RATT Race at Thunder Valley!”
Millican, like Knoll, considers himself a rock and roll junkie.
“This is going to be fun,” Millican said. “This is an honor to represent a band that I grew up listening to in high school. This is going to be fun. Can this job get any better? You get to drive 300 miles per hour and hang out with really cool people.”
RATT just like many of the veteran drag racers are returning for another North American tour to promote a forthcoming “Best of” CD and DVD through Rhino records. A full itinerary is still being finalized, but Poison and RATT will join forces for a summer trek that is scheduled to begin June 13 at the Bi Lo Center in Greenville, S.C., and wind around the country through September 1st.
The tour, which brings the two bands onstage together for the first time since 1999, will visit major U.S. cities such as Boston, Detroit, New York, Oklahoma City and Los Angeles.
A picture of the design of the dragster is below!

Drummer Wild Mick Brown – “I Am In DOKKEN And Have No Intention Of Leaving That”
DOKKEN crazy man, Wild Mick Brown, has been spending his last few summer vacations on the road with TED NUGENT. This summer, however, both Dokken and Ted will be touring at the same time. That fact has led to many internet rumours about Mick’s status within Dokken. BW&BK sat down with Mick last week to set the record straight.
Mitch Lafon: What is your status with Dokken and Ted Nugent?
Wild Mick Brown: “I am in Dokken and have no intention of leaving that. We’re rushing to get my drum tracks done on a new record (that should be out in September). The problem is that we still have some writing to do before I leave for Ted Nugent in May. The reason I did the Ted Nugent thing is because Dokken had slowed up a bit and playing with Ted is just something else… a real shot in the arm. He’s the Original King of The Wild ‘70s – he’s everything and Superman. This will be my third summer tour with Ted and Dokken is really trying to get busy with touring as well. I wish I could balance them both out and I’m sure it gets frustrating for Don (Dokken) because I’m not going to make some shows. They’ve hired Vic Foxx and they say he’s really good and he fits in well, but I want to be there, you know. And they want me there because I’m the motivator of the band – I’m the engine.”
ML: How does Don react to you being with Ted?
WMB: “It’s a bitter sweet thing. He’s glad I had Ted to be financially secure…and sometimes it’s good to step out. I’ve been in Dokken for 25 years and I’ve never played with anybody else, so this was a good way to gauge where I was as a musician, a person and how you present yourself to a boss rather than being one, so this is really a kick for me. So, Don is really happy for me, but he doesn’t like thinking half of Don’s band is in Ted’s band. Ted’s tour ends in September then Dokken and KINGDOM COME have a package in Europe and once the record is out – Don will get knocking on some doors and get a tour going and remain busy.”
ML: What can you tell me about Dokken’s new album, Lightning Strikes?
WMB: “The band is playing better than it ever has – it’s just kicking butt. Now, Don had been writing some very modern songs and submitted the tapes to the record company and they said ‘we don’t want this. We don’t want your new stuff. We want you to be Dokken. Cheerios are Cheerios – you put raisins in them and it becomes Cheerios Raisin Bran and we want you to be Cheerios’. They want an ‘80s record and I’m looking at my wall right now and the only Gold and Platinum records on there are from the ‘80s. I never put one up after ’89 at all. So, the new songs sound like – pick any number from the ‘80s and that’s what we do. We’re going to give them what they want. There’s a lot of melody and lots of strumming – total Dokken. These songs could have been on any one of our ‘80s records. The songs could be on Back For The Attack, Under Lock & Key, Tooth And Nail. They sound like they came right off those records. It’s amazing how spooky that is.”
ML: I think that’s what the fans want.
WMB: “Well, they do. A lot of people don’t know we have any records after 1989. They think Back For The Attack is our last record. Some of our best work is later. We did a great record with Reb Beach and John Norum did a record with us, but people just don’t know because MTV dictated all that and everybody knew. So when we play, we play the songs that people know and we throw in some new stuff we like to play and you see the big question marks over their face – ‘what record is that from?’ We tried to move ahead and we made some great records after our heyday, but as soon as we were off MTV and our audience grew up and had kids of their own – it was over. We tried to write modern stuff, but it was a very funny time because we didn’t have a big record label or anybody pushing us. It was very awkward and now we just gave in to it. If they (fans) want us for something, then we’ll give them what they want. If people are happy hearing that and it’ll get us some work – I’m all for it.”
ML: You re-recorded your Greatest Hits with Jon and Barry. When will that album be out?
WMB: “Right, we basically did our set list that we’ve been playing for years ‘Breaking The Chains’, ‘It’s Not Love’, ‘Alone Again’, ‘Into The Fire’. We did it in studio, but it came off with a real live feel and it has a new more modern sound unlike those old DEF LEPPARD snare drums sounds. Barry said ‘it sounds aggressive’, but I guess we ran out of money and it just stopped. We were deep into it, but just couldn’t finish it. Don said he’ll hang onto it until we get the money to finish it.”
ML: So, it’s not coming out?
WMB: “I’m hoping so, but right now we’re focused on the new album.”
ML: There’s also the new Live From Conception 1981 album…
WMB: “It sounds great. We were such an aggressive band, but you could tell the song-writing wasn’t all there yet. I remember those shows. We were so excited to be a band and we were giving it everything we had. The energy level was up there and we were just stomping it out. We really did our best and I really got a kick out of that album.”
ML: Any last words?
WMB: “The Dokken band – it’s so wonderful to play with the people that are in it now because the tension is gone. I’ve never played in Dokken without it. It was always so intense. I mean – we had fun, but you had to walk on eggshells. Now, it’s a lot of fun. Also Ted is going to make a new record and I just want to be a part of that.”
