Hard Rock Hideout Listen to four new songs off of Poison’s Upcoming Cover Disc, Poison’d now!

POISON has posted four songs from its upcoming album of cover songs, featuring many of their favorite rock classics. “Poison’d”, the band’s first new studio album since 2002, will be released June 5 on CD and digitally by EMI America Records/Capitol.

Go to POISON’s official MySpace page to hear the groups’ versions of THE ROMANTICS’ “What I Like About You”, DAVID BOWIE’s “Suffragette City”, SWEET’s “Little Willy” and THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND’s “Can’t You See”.

Featuring POISON’s original members, Bret Michaels (vocals), C.C. DeVille (guitar), Rikki Rockett (drums) and Bobby Dall (bass), “Poison’d” presents the band’s first new studio recordings since 2002’s “Hollyweird”. Produced by Don Was at Hensen Recording Studios in Hollywood, “Poison’d” packs 13 explosive tracks, including new recordings of DAVID BOWIE’s “Suffragette City”, THE CARS’ “You’re Just What I Needed”, THE ROMANTICS’ “What I Like About You”, SWEET’s “Little Willy”, THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND’s “Can’t You See” and THE ROLLING STONES’ “Dead Flowers”. Some of POISON’s best previously recorded covers are also featured on “Poison’d”, including KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite”, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD’s “We’re An American Band” and LOGGINS AND MESSINA’s “Your Mama Don’t Dance”.

“POISON is one of the greatest rock ‘n roll bands in the world and, after 20 years, they can slam better than ever,” says “Poison’d” producer Don Was. “They’re powerful musicians and very cool guys. We had a lot of fun making this album and I think you can hear it in the grooves — it’s got the jive and is truly alive! I urge everyone to listen to it!”

Following the release of “Poison’d”, POISON will hit the road again on June 12 for a major North American summer concert tour. Tour dates and details will be announced and posted to the band’s official website as they are confirmed.

In July, VH1 will premiere a new reality show, “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels”. VH1’s description of the show has “the hard-rockin’ POISON front man looking for a woman who can truly keep up with his rock-n-roll lifestyle and not become jealous of his one true passion — performing, which has been the reason for and destruction of most of his relationships.”

TWISTED SISTER TO HEADLINE ROCKLAHOMA!!

Today heavy metal fans across the nation heard the news they’ve been hoping for from “House of Hair” nationally syndicated radio host and TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider.

“It is my distinct pleasure to announce that TWISTED SISTER will once again be involved with a show that will go down in history. On July 15th, TWISTED has just been confirmed as the headliner for the Rocklahoma festival,” Snider said during his weekly radio show. “Rocklahoma will go down as one of the most momentous concerts of all time.”

TWISTED SISTER‘s Rocklahoma appearance is the band’s only announced North American show for 2007.

TWISTED SISTER, full on with costume, make-up and all five original members — Dee Snider, Jay Jay French, Mark “The Animal” Mendoza, Eddie “Fingers” Ojedaand AJ Pero — along with 22 bands from that era will appear at Rocklahoma, the largest rock festival of its kind to ever be organized. To date, Rocklahoma‘s three-day line-up includes:

Snider added: “When I tell you that this will be the most incredible lineup ever, you have to believe me. Check it out. Over three days, you’ll have the chance to see so many bands that your head might explode — like that dude in the JUDAS PRIEST [1982] video for ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Comin.’]”

Although rumors have been circulating about whether or not band members might retire TWISTED SISTER, Snider recently put an end to those rumors by discussing Rocklahoma.

“On the TWISTED SISTER retirement front: Ain’t happening,” he said. “We’re strappin’ on the spandex one more time.”

TED NUGENT – “Gun-Free Zones are a Recipe for Disaster

By Ted Nugent Special to CNN

WACO, Texas (CNN) — Zero tolerance, huh? Gun-free zones, huh? Try this on for size: Columbine gun-free zone, New York City pizza shop gun-free zone, Luby’s Cafeteria gun-free zone, Amish school in Pennsylvania gun-free zone and now Virginia Tech gun-free zone.

Anybody see what the evil Brady Campaign and other anti-gun cults have created? I personally have zero tolerance for evil and denial. And America had best wake up real fast that the brain-dead celebration of unarmed helplessness will get you killed every time, and I’ve about had enough of it.

Nearly a decade ago, a Springfield, Oregon, high schooler, a hunter familiar with firearms, was able to bring an unfolding rampage to an abrupt end when he identified a gunman attempting to reload his .22-caliber rifle, made the tactical decision to make a move and tackled the shooter.

A few years back, an assistant principal at Pearl High School in Mississippi, which was a gun-free zone, retrieved his legally owned Colt .45 from his car and stopped a Columbine wannabe from continuing his massacre at another school after he had killed two and wounded more at Pearl.

At an eighth-grade school dance in Pennsylvania, a boy fatally shot a teacher and wounded two students before the owner of the dance hall brought the killing to a halt with his own gun.

More recently, just a few miles up the road from Virginia Tech, two law school students ran to fetch their legally owned firearm to stop a madman from slaughtering anybody and everybody he pleased. These brave, average, armed citizens neutralized him pronto.

My hero, Dr. Suzanne Gratia Hupp, was not allowed by Texas law to carry her handgun into Luby’s Cafeteria that fateful day in 1991, when due to bureaucrat-forced unarmed helplessness she could do nothing to stop satanic George Hennard from killing 23 people and wounding more than 20 others before he shot himself. Hupp was unarmed for no other reason than denial-ridden “feel good” politics.

She has since led the charge for concealed weapon upgrade in Texas, where we can now stop evil. Yet, there are still the mindless puppets of the Brady Campaign and other anti-gun organizations insisting on continuing the gun-free zone insanity by which innocents are forced into unarmed helplessness. Shame on them. Shame on America. Shame on the anti-gunners all.

No one was foolish enough to debate Ryder truck regulations or ammonia nitrate restrictions or a “cult of agriculture fertilizer” following the unabashed evil of Timothy McVeigh’s heinous crime against America on that fateful day in Oklahoma City. No one faulted kitchen utensils or other hardware of choice after Jeffrey Dahmer was caught drugging, mutilating, raping, murdering and cannibalizing his victims. Nobody wanted “steak knife control” as they autopsied the dead nurses in Chicago, Illinois, as Richard Speck went on trial for mass murder.

Evil is as evil does, and laws disarming guaranteed victims make evil people very, very happy. Shame on us.

Already spineless gun control advocates are squawking like chickens with their tiny-brained heads chopped off, making political hay over this most recent, devastating Virginia Tech massacre, when in fact it is their own forced gun-free zone policy that enabled the unchallenged methodical murder of 32 people.

Thirty-two people dead on a U.S. college campus pursuing their American Dream, mowed-down over an extended period of time by a lone, non-American gunman in possession of a firearm on campus in defiance of a zero-tolerance gun ban. Feel better yet? Didn’t think so.

Who doesn’t get this? Who has the audacity to demand unarmed helplessness? Who likes dead good guys?

I’ll tell you who. People who tramp on the Second Amendment, that’s who. People who refuse to accept the self-evident truth that free people have the God-given right to keep and bear arms, to defend themselves and their loved ones. People who are so desperate in their drive to control others, so mindless in their denial that they pretend access to gas causes arson, Ryder trucks and fertilizer cause terrorism, water causes drowning, forks and spoons cause obesity, dialing 911 will somehow save your life, and that their greedy clamoring to “feel good” is more important than admitting that armed citizens are much better equipped to stop evil than unarmed, helpless ones.

Pray for the families of victims everywhere, America. Study the methodology of evil. It has a profile, a system, a preferred environment where victims cannot fight back. Embrace the facts, demand upgrade and be certain that your children’s school has a better plan than Virginia Tech or Columbine. Eliminate the insanity of gun-free zones, which will never, ever be gun-free zones. They will only be good guy gun-free zones, and that is a recipe for disaster written in blood on the altar of denial. I, for one, refuse to genuflect there.

BlackRainThe final artwork for OZZY OSBOURNE‘s new album, “Black Rain”, is pictured to the left.

“Black Rain” track listing:

01. Not Going Away
02. I Don’t Wanna Stop
03. Black Rain
04. Lay Your World on Me
05. The Almighty Dollar
06. 11 Silver
07. Civilize the Universe
08. Here For You
09. Countdown’s Begun
10. Trap Door

A full-length audio stream of Ozzy‘s new single, “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, is available at the following links: Windows Media, Quicktime, Shockwave Flash.

You can tell by looking at many of the song titles on “Black Rain” — Ozzy Osbourne‘s first album with new studio material in six years — that the rock legend took a good look at his own life and the world around him. He also salutes his fans—among the most devoted in the world — with such songs as “Here For You” and “Lay Your World On Me”.

“Black Rain” finds the two-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee as vital, creative and evocative as ever. You also get the clear sense that he’s operating at the peak of powers, as a singer and songwriter.
Ozzy co-produced the album with Kevin Churko and recorded it with his touring band: Zakk Wylde (guitar), Mike Bordin (drums) and Blasko (bass). Ozzy says that he felt a new freedom while recording the album at his home studio in Los Angeles. The result: songs that are not only hard-hitting but adventurously arranged and sonically fresh. Explains Ozzy, “It’s a well-put together album. I think it’s evident that it hasn’t been just slapped out and put down. I took my time on the album and Zakk plays some amazing stuff as always”. Ozzy feels “Black Rain” is the true follow-up to his classic “No More Tears”, the 1991 album that also challenged the expectations of what an Ozzy Osbourne album should sound like.

Some of the songs on “Black Rain” are ominous in their emotional tone — they examine a world teeming with greed, war, deception, bad drugs (“11 Silver”, about crystal meth) and environmental havoc. Ozzy also zooms in on the overriding sense of fear and dread that define our times — perpetrated, he feels, by news programs that make “entertainment” out of terrible news events.

Says Ozzy: “I just thought there’s so much fucking bad news, the only way I can release it is to put it in a song”. On the other hand, the new track “Civilize The Universe” offers a sense of hope, as Ozzy sings: “I’m alive/Watching better turn to worse/One more time/Try to civilize the universe”.

Ozzy will support “Black Rain” with a world tour beginning in Moscow on May 27 which continues through July 6. Then starting July 12 in Seattle, he’ll headline the 12th annual Ozzfest tour throughout America.

The pioneer and trendsetter has pulled the plug on ticket prices in America and given the power back to the fans, calling this summer’s Ozzfest “FreeFest”. That’s right, this year’s Ozzfest is entirely free for fans, an unprecedented move for an artist and tour of this stature.

Ozzy is being honored in May on VH1‘s “Rock Honors” telecast. He will perform three songs on the broadcast including a track from “Black Rain”. Premiering on Thursday, May 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, “VH1 Rock Honors” will be taped at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 12.

New video available for Megadeth’s “A Tout Le Monde“

MEGADETH‘s video for the new version of the song “A Tout Le Monde”, now retitled “A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)”, is available for viewing at Underground Video Television (Windows Media).

“A Tout Le Monde”, which originally appeared on the 1994 CD “Youthanasia”, has created controversy because the song was cited in an online post by Dawson College killer Kimveer Gill as one of his favorites before his Montreal shooting spree last September. MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine contends that he wanted to give the song a second shot at success, as the original video for it had been banned by MTV, and most radio stations followed suit. The track ended up featuring Cristina Scabbia from Italian alt-metal act LACUNA COIL. “The first singer didn’t work out,” Mustaine told Straight.com, “the second one didn’t work, and the third one was Lisa Marie Presley. She was on the way to the airport, and we had to call and say, ‘Sorry, we changed our minds.’ I would have loved to have heard what Lisa Marie Presley would have done, but because of the demographics of the LACUNA COIL fan base, and Cristina‘s reign in the heavy-metal business, it was the right thing to do.”

A video clip of Cristina Scabbia talking about the video shoot for “A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)”, which took place March 8-9 in Los Angeles, has been posted online at this location.

Commented Cristina: “[Dave Mustaine] actually asked me to be part of this duet, and I was really surprised about it because ‘A Tout Le Monde’ is a song that I’ve always loved, even if it’s not like the new [version] because [the original song] [was released on] the album ‘Youthanasia’. It was a big surprise for me to get this invitation — I was really honored to be part of it. And seriously, when I heard the final result, I was awesomely surprised ’cause I think that the two voices are fitting incredibly [well together]. I think that the version of ‘A Tout le Monde’ 2007 has a stronger attitude. If the original version was for the mellow mood, this one is way more rock, way more powerful. I totally love it. I was surprised myself, and I think that a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised.

“It was recorded, like an hour from Birgmingham [England]. So I flew in and recorded my parts with Andy Sneap [producer]. He’s [Andy] an amazing guy — super professional — and the atmosphere in the studio was so relaxed. It was like a family vibe, and I think that’s the most amazing thing when you have to work. You can work and still smile, you know, and be relaxed.

“I tracked the entire song because we weren’t really sure what we had to do, so we just wanted to be totally sure, so we recorded all the parts that Dave sung with some improvisation with it, double vocals. We basically made anything possible, so they could pick up whatever they wanted to.”

“A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)” will appear on MEGADETH‘s new album, “United Abominations”, due on May 15 via Roadrunner Records.

REVENGE

ALLEN/LANDE Guitarist/Producer Magnus Karlsson Runs Through The Revenge, Track By Track

Magnus Karlsson – songwriter, guitarist and producer of the forthcoming second album from ALLEN/LANDE, The Revenge due out on Frontiers Records on May 11th – has issued the following track by track comments on the songs featured on the album:

‘The Revenge’: “This is the first song I wrote for this album. I wanted to write something that invites the listener to an album that continues were The Battle ended but at the same time take it to another level. It’s not only in the song writing you can hear the difference, both Jörn and Russell shows a more powerful and rougher side this time.”

‘Obsessed’: “My favourite at the moment. A heavy one with Russell on the vocals. The singers got to choose what solo songs they wanted to do and I must say this was a perfect pick for Russell. He sounds greater than ever : ) .”

‘Victory’: “I didn’t think much of this song in the beginning but it came out as one of the best songs in the end (it happens quite often). A duet that starts with a little beep rhythm that the whole song is built around.”

‘Master Of Sorrow’: “This is simply the best ballad I ever written and Jörn does an outstanding job on the vocals. I was sure Jörn was going to choose this one and he did : ) It is made for his voice.”

‘Will You Follow’: “I wanted to do something like ‘Hunters Night’ from The Battle and this is it. A up tempo song with Russell.”

‘Just A Dream’: “A duet with a progressive touch. This is not meant to be a progressive album at all but sometimes I can’t help myself. I love to mix in acoustic instruments in a heavy song and this is a good example of that.”

‘Her Spell’: “A up tempo solo song with Jörn that almost has a power metal sound in the chorus. I prefer to not talk to much about my lyrics but I must mention that this one have to do with marriage… and I wouldn’t let my wife hear it : ) .”

‘Gone Too Far’: “Also a real favourite with Russell. This is far away from the style we are used to hear Russell in but he does this style fantastic as well.”

‘Wake Up Call’: “This duet came out great. I love it when the singers sound this angry. You can hear some Celtic influences here. If you don’t wake up to this one I don’t know what to do : ) .”

‘Under The Waves’: “A heavy song with Jörn. A great example of mixing soft piano with heavy guitars that I like so much.”

‘Who Can You Trust’: “I have listened a lot to Within Temptation lately and got inspiration to do a really heavy song with a lot of choirs and strings like they have. It didn’t end up sounding like them but that’s how I got started.”

‘When Time Doesn’t Heal’: “The second ballad on this album that is a duet. Once more Jörn and Russell shows that they can sing what style they want and it always sounds fantastic. I wanted to have a lot of acoustic guitars on this album but I’m afraid that the most of them ended up on this song.”

Streaming of four songs from the album can be heard at this location.

GUNS N’ ROSES-Influenced “Mr. Brownstone” Among Titles Of “Poison Plays” Penned By Virginia Tech Assassin
New York Post has issued the following report from Leela de Krester and Kate Sheehy:

He penned venomous plays featuring a sicko stepdad and “satanic” teacher he wanted to kill – prompting spooked students to dub him a potential “school shooter” last fall.

“I was even thinking of scenarios of what I would do in case he did come in with a gun, I was that freaked out,” said former student Ian MacFarlane, who took a playwriting class with Virginia Tech assassin Cho Seung-Hui.

“When we read Cho’s plays, it was like something out of a nightmare. The plays had really twisted, macabre violence that used weapons I wouldn’t have even thought of.”

One of the killer’s plays was titled “Mr. Brownstone”, after a druggie GUNS N’ ROSES song sung by Axl Rose on the heavy-metal group’s album Appetite for Destruction. The play centers on three kids’ hatred for an “old, evil” teacher who they say “rapes” students.

Another of Cho’s plays is named “Richard McBeef,” after one of its main characters: a 40-year-old man accused by his stepson, “John,” of murdering the boy’s father to marry his mother – and who then tries to sexually abuse the kid.

“What are you, a Catholic priest? I will not be molested by an aging, balding, overweight pedophilic stepdad named Dick!” John rages.

“Damn you, you Catholic priest. Just stop it, Michael Jackson. Let me guess, you have a pet named Dick in Neverland Ranch and you want me to go with you to pet him, right?”

John’s mother, “Sue,” is portrayed as a pathetic, dimwitted housewife who immediately takes the side of her son and rails at her new husband.

“Are you a bisexual psycho rapist murderer . . . Don’t kill me!” she screams.

Toward the end, John, “in his room, smiles and throws darts on the target that is the face of Richard.”

“I hate him. Must kill Dick. Must kill Dick. Dick must die,” John furiously mutters. “You don’t think I can kill you, Dick? You don’t think I can kill you? Gotcha. Got one eye . . . Got the other eye.”

WHITE LION is rumored to have been added to the POISON/RATT summer tour, which is tentatively scheduled to kick off June 12. This information, however, has not yet been confirmed by an official source.

The current touring version of WHITE LION (a.k.a. TRAMP’S WHITE LION) features original member Mike Tramp (vocals) alongside Claus Longwood (bass), Troy Patrick Farrell (drums), Jamie Law (guitar), and Henning Wanner (keyboards).

WHITE LION is planning a small European tour starting with an appearance at Italy’s Gods of Metal festival on June 2 and including dates in Turkey, Italy and Sweden (where the group will perform at the Sweden Rock Festival on June 8). The band is also working on releasing a new WHITE LION album late summer.

Tramp recently made an appearance on Eddie Trunk’s “Friday Night Rocks” radio show on New York’s Q104.3 FM to respond to an interview with ex-WHITE LION guitarist Vito Bratta in which Vito expressed interest in reuniting with his former band. While Tramp didn’t rule out the possibility of a collaboration with Vito, he made it clear during his appearance on “Friday Night Rocks” that he wanted Bratta to take the first step and stop making excuses for why he has remained musically inactive for the past 15 years.

WHITE LION’s “The Definitive Rock Collection”, a two-disc compilation featuring the band’s hit 1987 single “Wait”, plus “When Children Cry”, “Tell Me”, and several rare rehearsal recordings, came out on January 23 via Rhino.

5 Silent Witness – S/T (Release Year – 1997)

Silent Witness In 2007, Robert Mason is still not a house hold name. He has sung for quite a few bands over the years including Magnum, Lynch Mob, Cry of Love, Silent Witness and currently Big Cock.

Regardless of the band he is singing for, one thing is always constant, his awesome vocals. The great fall out of 80’s hard rock probably prevented any chance of Robert Mason being a household name among music fans, and it is a true shame, because this is one talented hard rock singer.

Silent Witness is one of the lesser known bands that Robert has sung for, and this self titled CD was a great find for me on Ebay recently. Silent Witness features Robert Mason on vocals, John Bushnell on guitar, Hal B. Selzer on bass and Lance Hyland Stark on drums. This is a damn good melodic hard rock CD that very few people ever got to know.

John Bushnell has a guitar sound that reminds me more of Neal Schon than George Lynch. This disc is a little lighter than Lynch Mob, and kind of reminds me of Neal Schon’s former band, Hardline, and another band that I like, Cry Wolf.

I would give a track by track break down, but all of the tracks are worth listening to. This is an all killer, no filler disc that will appeal to the majority of the 80’s hard rock fans out there.

I could gripe over the fact that the music lacks originality, and yes, the song writing could be a little better. Quite frankly, I love to find CD’s like this one that still have that great 80’s hard rock sound. This is still a solid effort from Silent Witness, and is a disc that fits in well with a lot of those classic hard rock CD’s from the late 80’s and early 90’s.

You can still find this disc for reasonable prices on Ebay from time to time. I would recommend grabbing this lost classic, if you see it.

Former Home To DEF LEPPARD, KISS, RUSH – Mercury Records Resurrected
According to Reuters/Billboard, Island Def Jam is reviving the legendary Mercury Records imprint in the United States, eight years after it was mothballed in the wake of a corporate merger.

The label continues to operate overseas, serving as the home for many Island Def Jam acts, such as BON JOVI, ELTON JOHN and LIONEL RICHIE.

The resurrected Mercury will be headed in New York by David Massey, a former executive at Sony Music, where he worked with the likes of SHAKIRA, OASIS, FRANZ FERDINAND and TRAVIS.

Mercury – which over the years has served as the U.S. home to such acts as JOHN MELLENCAMP, DEF LEPPARD, KISS, RUSH, ROD STEWART, CINDERELLA, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS and TEARS FOR FEARS — ceased operating as a frontline label in North America in 1999 in the wake of Seagram Co.’s purchase of Mercury’s PolyGram parent. The deal led to the formation of Universal Music Group, which is now controlled by Vivendi Universal.

Mercury was founded in Chicago in 1945, and found success with such acts as SARAH VAUGHAN, DINAH WASHINGTON, THE PLATTERS and LOUIS ARMSTRONG.

Just how many releases come out this year under the Mercury banner remains to be seen, but the number figures to be a handful. Massey said the plan is to build the imprint slowly.

LIZZY BORDEN Shoot Cover For New Album; Enlist JACK FROST For New England Metal And Hardcore Festival

“Lizzy Borden has shot the cover of the as yet unnamed new recording, due out the end of summer.

Lizzy is working with special effects wizard and make-up artist Ralis Kahn (www.ralisfx.com). Although no details have been revealed, Ralis has designed the set and the look of the band based on the characters in the storyline of the new recording.

Famed ‘Metal’ photographer Alex Solca took well over 1,000 shots in a two-day marathon, involving extras as well as the band (Lizzy, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black). At the end of the two-day shoot the set was literally set a blaze!, with flames shooting 30 feet into the air! And all captured on film.

“Because a lot of music is going straight to itunes, we thought we would pay special attention to both the cover and the back cover and fill the inside of the CD booklet with tons of fun shots from this specialized photo shoot. As we all know, very soon there will no longer be an actual CD to have a cool booklet for. Everything will go straight from the studio to your ipod, so we thought we would really do this one up right!”, commented Lizzy.

Fifteen hours worth of video footage was also filmed during the two day shoot. Stay tuned to http://www.Lizzyborden.com for the ‘Making of’ as well as the cover to be posted soon.

In other news, Lizzy Borden has enlisted the ‘metal guitar’ services of Jack Frost (SEVEN WITCHES, ex-SAVATAGE). Jack is coming on board to play the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival (April 28th) with us as the second guitarist with Ira black. Jack is also one of the ‘special guest’ guitarists playing on the new record due out the end of summer.”

Eddie Trunk interviewed Stephen Pearcy on the Eddie Trunk show last night. Stephen was holding his cards very close to his chest, and would not leak any details about the pending RATT reunion, but did say further details would be breaking within the next week or so.

Also, Eddie debuted one of the new tracks off of the upcoming covers disc by Tesla, Real to Reel, the old Tempations track, Ball of Confusion. Anthrax has covered this tune before, but the Tesla version, was done very well. This has me excited over a covers disc for this first time ever. I found some interesting info online regarding this disc. See below!

Tesla’s Real to Reel CD to be Released June 5, 2007

Tesla’s new CD Real to Reel is a covers
CD that is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!! There are 23 tracks in all so this will be
released as a “volume 1 & 2” but there will be a catch. If you ask me, the
marketing strategy that they are using is brilliant. Here’s the deal.

Volume 1 of Real to Reel will be available in stores on June 5 so make sure you
go and buy it. Tesla will be out on tour this summer…possibly late spring in
support of this CD and they will be performing what they are calling “Two Night
Stands”. Each city will have two back to back performances of Tesla, one night
electric…one night acoustic. Make SURE that you buy tickets to BOTH shows
because your ticket to the FIRST show is also buying you Real to Reel Vol.2!!
That’s right…..Real to Reel Vol.2 will be included in the price of your ticket
and will be handed out as you enter the show. Is that COOL or WHAT?? Now here’s
the kicker…..on the SECOND night of this adventure there will be a BONUS CD
handed out!! That’s right….your ticket for the SECOND night will include a
BONUS CD of acoustic material. These songs were taken from 5 Man Jam and
recorded in the studio so they won’t have the sound of the live audience behind
them. They will have favorites from 5 Man (Signs, Paradise) as well as selected
acoustic versions of songs from the 2005 Five Man Acoustic Jam Revisited Tour (Hang
Tough, etc.) Now, I must report that this is NOT an official press release so
this info is still subject to change but this announcement was made by Mr. Brian
Wheat himself during a radio interview with Rock 94 in Albuquerque, NM last
month.

The track listing for Real to Reel is as follows:

Bad Reputation (Thin Lizzy)

Ball Of Confusion (Temptations)

Beer Drinkers, Hell Raisers (ZZ Top)

Bell Bottom Blues (Eric Clapton/Derek And The Dominoes)

Day Of The Eagle (Robin Trower)

Great White Members Ask To Be Dismissed From Station Fire Civil Suits

According to ww2.wpri.com, Great White band members, whose pyrotechnics ignited a deadly fire at The Station nightclub are asking to be dismissed from lawsuits stemming from the blaze.

The band members say they weren’t involved in the decision to use pyrotechnics and had no role in setting them off the night of the 2003 fire.

The blaze at the West Warwick club killed 100 people and began when the band’s pyrotechnics ignited flammable soundproofing foam.

The band was sued in federal court by fire survivors and victims’ relatives.

Mark Kendall (guitar), David Filice (bass) and Eric Powers (drums) filed court papers yesterday seeking to be removed from the case. Lead singer Jack Russell is among the defendants but did not join in the request.

The band’s tour manager is in prison after pleading guilty to igniting the pyrotechnics.

Funny Money - Stick It If you have been wondering whatever happened to Kix, look no further than the band Funny Money. Funny Money features former Kix members, Steve Whiteman on vocals, and Jimmy Chalfant on drums. The band has gone through some line up changes over the years, but Funny Money has formed a solid four piece lineup with former Centerfold bassist, Mark Schenker and Rob Galpin on lead guitar.

Stick It, is the third studio album by Funny Money, and may be the best one yet. Legendary producer Beau Hill, mixed this disc, and all of the songs flow well as a result of it. Stick It should give Kix fans everything they have been wanting. This is a very strong offering full of AC/DC style, blues infested hard rock.

Check out a couple of tracks below:

About Women is a live video performance by Funny Money.

Slow to Blow is a great track that will give you an idea of what you will hear on Stick It.

If you like either of the tracks above, you need to pick this up. This is a disc that will appeal to 80’s Hard Rock fans, Kix fans, and probably quite a few AC/DC fans as well. It is solid all the way through, and well worth checking out.

You can hear more tracks at CD Baby.com or at the band’s Myspace page here.

Hard Rock Hideout LISTEN TO THE NEW OZZY TRACKS!!
A number of audio clips from OZZY OSBOURNE’s forthcoming album have been posted online at Ozzy.com (Note: You have to scroll over and click on the books and other images on the main page to hear the audio).

The first single, “I Don’t Want to Stop”, from the upcoming CD will receive its online premiere on Friday, April 13.

Ozzy Osbourne recently told Rolling Stone magazine (web site) that the war in Iraq weighed heavily on his mind during the recording sessions for his first album of new material in six years. “Bombs are falling and tears are falling,” Ozzy reportedly sneers across what Rolling Stone described as “a modern metal anthem,” entitled “Countdown’s Begun”. But Osbourne told the magazine that he didn’t set out to write another “War Pigs”, the BLACK SABBATH classic inspired by an earlier generation’s unpopular war. “I don’t want to get political,” said Ozzy, who has visited maimed soldiers in military hospitals during recent tours. “I try to mask it so you can think what you like. The things around you affect you but you don’t realize it. You look at CNN and a fucking car bomb has gone off.”

Among the eleven new tracks Osbourne has recorded is “Not Going Away”, which Rolling Stone describes as “a fiery rocker with ominous riffs from guitarist Zakk Wylde,” and “Lay Your World On Me”, which was inspired by Ozzy’s wife and manager’s recent battle with cancer. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include “The Almighty Dollar” and “Not Going Away”.

The follow-up to 2001’s “Down to Earth”, was recorded with the same band that backed Osbourne on his scattered 2006 Ozzfest dates — Zakk Wylde on guitar, Mike Bordin on drums, and former ROB ZOMBIE bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson. The album has no official producer, although longtime Mutt Lange protégé Kevin Churko is serving as the engineer.

“Kevin’s working the machines and helping me with the songwriting,” Osbourne recently told Revolver magazine. “He really knows what he’s doing with the ProTools, which is good because I can’t work the fucking thing. I can barely work a light switch!”

The new CD is the first to be recorded in Osbourne’s home studio, located in the newly soundproofed guest house behind his Beverly Hills mansion, which he’s outfitted with a mixing desk and a ProTools rig. “If you ever have inspiration, you can put down an idea,” Osbourne told Rolling Stone of recording at home. “The bad thing is your wife can get ahold of you all the time for whatever she wants you to do.”

Former Kiss Guitarist Mark St. John Dead at 51

KNAC.COM is reporting that former KISS guitarist Mark St. John died this morning from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 51 years old.Mark St. John

Acccording to KissFAQ.com, Mark St. John was born Mark Norton, in Hollywood, California, on February 7, 1956. His parents moved in the early 1960s to Garden Grove, CA where Mark was initially more interested in sports than music. In an interview with KISS Strike, Mark recalled, “I played all sports, in fact I played sports before I got into music. Especially basketball, I mean I tried all sports but basketball is what I excelled in. And when I got into high school we started playing CIF with other teams from L.A. and they were all black and I felt that I wasn’t a very good basketball player. I mean they just slip and slide all over you, they jump higher and they run faster and you felt belittled after the first five minutes and I gave it up after that.”

Growing up in Southern California, Mark didn’t start playing guitar until he was a sophomore in highschool in 1972 when he also started to grow his hair longer, undoubtedly part of that age-group’s rebellion from their parents and society. Initially guitar playing started as a hobby, but within a year Mark had become quite serious about it.

As to why he started plaing guitar, Mark recalled, “I guess because the guitar was the new thing happening — it was the sound. I’m from a generation that went through a whole different thing in music, like a culture-type thing. It was the voice of the people. It was a source of rebellion and the guitar was one of the biggest things. I remember watching television and seeing THE BEATLES and THE ROLLING STONES on the ‘Ed Sullivan Show’. They didn’t have tubas, they had guitars and everyone was going crazy and that put a spark in my mind… The guitar is rock ‘n roll. That’s what it’s all about. From the ’50s on, the emphasis was on the guitar sound. Everyone was trying to make the guitar sound like other instruments, but it’s not so easy to make other instruments sound like the guitar. The guitar is what’s happening”

Mark has a brother, Michael (born 1964), who plays bass. The two would be in bands together following Mark’s tenure in KISS. They also have one sister (born 1960).

Mark replaced Vinnie Vincent as lead guitarist for Kiss in April 1984, following Vincent’s falling-out with the band (Mark was suggested to Paul Stanley by Grover Jackson of Jackson Guitars). St. John played on the majority of the band’s 1984 album Animalize (Bruce Kulick was featured on the song, “Lonely Is The Hunter”). During work for the album, St. John clashed with the other members of the band, and eventually developed arthritis (Reiter’s Syndrome), which caused his hands and arms to swell. He was all but unable to perform live as a member of Kiss, and only played three (one in full) shows during the “Animalize” tour, with Kulick filling in for the rest. He was officially replaced by Kulick in December 8, 1984.

St. John’s only video appearance with Kiss is in the video for Heaven’s On Fire”.

After leaving Kiss, St. John formed his new group White Tiger with one-time Black Sabbath vocalist David Donato and released one LP in 1986.

Vince Neil to open DR. FEELGOOD bar in Palm Beach, Florida

According to Florida’s Palm Beach Post, MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil, former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Todd Wade and former Florida Gator southpaw quarterback Bob Hewko just signed a partnership with M&M to open a rock ‘n’ roll themed bar-restaurant in West Palm Beach named Dr. Feelgood’s Rock Bar, after the 1989 album by Neil‘s band. The joint, in the space currently occupied by MonkeyClub, will be stuffed with Neil memorabilia and his Harley collection. The bar area will be designed to look like a pharmacy, the liquor bottles will be displayed between oversized pharmaceuticals and the bartenders will wear sexy nurses’ uniforms.

“Vince has a condo in Miami Beach and we met through a mutual friend,” Mash said. “We’ve been talking to him about this for a while. He wants to give a free concert for the grand opening. He loves the location.”

Next door, former Bravo cable network “Top Chef” star Stephen Asprinio, 24, is scheduled to open Forte Di Asprinio, an Italian joint, with his uncle, Palm Beach moneybags Bob Cuillo. He is founder of the nearby Cuillo Centre for the Arts.

“They’re both putting money into that project,” Mash said. “People go to dinner there, then go for a drink at Dr. Feelgood.”

A third new place with the feel of an NYC-style club, Rebar, and a fourth, Lost Weekend, are also planned at the complex.

Black Sabbath Live!

Together for a short but memorable time—a trio of studio albums, a couple of tours, and countless thundering riffs—the second coming of Black Sabbath began in 1979 when founding members Tony Iommi and Terry “Geezer” Butler were joined by Ronnie James Dio. The former singer of Elf (and later Rainbow and Dio) added his fiery, demonic howl to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group’s crushing mix of iconic riffs, gloomy grooves and doom-soaked imagery.

In late 2006 Dio, Iommi and Butler, joined by drummer Vinny Appice, reunited to record three new songs for Rhino Records’ era-spanning collection The Dio Years. These recording sessions went so well that the quartet—billed as Heaven And Hell—launched a highly anticipated world tour in the spring of 2007.

Released just weeks after The Dio Years, this single-disc Rhino Handmade edition of the original double LP, Live At Hammersmith Odeon, features Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice getting hot one December night in London during Sabbath’s 1981 tour for Mob Rules. Previously unreleased, the concert spotlights Sabbath as they storm through 14 of the Dio-era’s best, including “Neon Knights,” “Heaven And Hell,” “Children Of The Sea” and “Country Girl.” The band also performs several pre-Dio classics including “Paranoid,” “Children Of The Grave” and a white-hot version of “War Pigs.”

Live At Hammersmith Odeon is available as an individually numbered limited edition of 5,000 copies.

Hard Rock Hideout OPEN UP AND SAY….WHAT THE HELL?!

POISON, one of rock’s most iconic and enduring bands, has recorded a new album of cover songs, featuring many of their favorite rock classics. “Poison’d”, the band’s first new studio album since 2002, will be released June 5 on CD and digitally by EMI America Records/Capitol.

“Poison’d” (CD and Digital Album) (not final sequence) track listing:

01. Little Willy (SWEET)
02. Suffragette City (DAVID BOWIE)
03. I Never Cry (ALICE COOPER)
04. I Need to Know (TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS)
05. Can’t You See (THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND)
06. What I Like About You (THE ROMANTICS)
07. Dead Flowers (THE ROLLING STONES)
08. Just What I Needed (THE CARS)
09. Rock and Roll All Nite (KISS)
10. Squeeze Box (THE WHO)
11. Your Mama Don’t Dance (LOGGINS AND MESSINA)
12. You Don’t Mess Around With Jim (JIM CROCE)
13. We’re An American Band (GRAND FUNK RAILROAD)

Personally, I do not like cover albums, but I question Poison’s need to re-release covers that they have had on past discs. So if you buy the new disc, you are getting covers of covers that have been covered. What the Hell! I think I may have to pass this one up.

Mick Mars giving Dilana a hand

According to ChartAttack.com, Dilana Robichaux — known to most as the runner-up to Lukas Rossi in the “Rock Star: Supernova” television series — is collaborating with MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars on a song called “Time is a Wound”, to be included on Dilana‘s debut album.

“I immediately ‘fell in love’ with my new adopted Dad, Mick,” Robichaux wrote in a recent post on her MySpace page. “We instantly had a chemistry and a connection so special that I’m still totally dumb-founded by it!

“I’ve never met someone so beautiful, funny, giving, caring and talented and I’m sooo excited to work with him some more!”

The pair, who got together in mid-March to jam, recently got “pact” tattoos — Mars on his hand and Robichaux on her chest — of the African voodoo symbol for Mars at Sunset Strip Tattoo in Los Angeles. Mars also gave the singer one of his guitars, an ’80s white and gold Gretsch with a penguin on it.

Robichaux made a guest appearance on the recent self-titled album by ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA and former GUNS N’ ROSES member Gilby Clarke.

Hard Rock HideoutFrontiers Sign GREAT WHITE For “25th Anniversary / Reunion” Album

Frontiers Records reports:

“Frontiers Records is proud to announce the signing of GREAT WHITE for the release of the band’s forthcoming “25th Anniversary / Reunion” all-original studio album in August, 2007!

The Southern California blues-rock band first took a bite out of the rock scene in 1984 and since then has achieved worldwide success, encompassing sales of over six million records. They received a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for the song ‘Once Bitten, Twice Shy’ and earned a double platinum certification for the album …Twice Shy.

The soulful, blues-based signature sound that turned songs like ‘Face The Day’, ‘Rock Me’ and ‘Save Your Love’ into international hits, can also be found on the new songs which are currently being mixed by the band’s keyboard player Michael Lardie.

“I don’t feel it’s a record where we have tried to reinvent ourselves”, says guitar player Mark Kendall, “It’s like everything you have liked or disliked over our entire career rolled into 1 record and then some. But everyone has grown musically and I think that will show through”.

The – still untitled – new album, is the first all original in 8 years and was recorded in just three weeks during March, ’07. The process was very spontaneous. According to drummer Audie Desbrow, “The recording experience was a blast. We had a lot of fun doing this one”, while Michael Lardie adds: “The one thing I wanted to make sure of, was that FUN was the signpost for every bit of recording we did, no stress, loose, upbeat, mission accomplished! Egos have been checked at the door and decisions are made as to what is best for each song.”

Bassist Sean McNabb comments, “I think we had creative control on this one and everyone got to give ideas, that made it a band thing,”

Michael Lardie concludes, “The new songs sound fresh to me, very Great White but with an approach of what we sound like in a live performance situation. Kendall and I are having fun channeling our Stones roots and playing off each other in the Richards/Woods tradition.”

Great White has been churning out memorable songs since the early 80’s, when singer Jack Russell and guitarist Mark Kendall joined forces and adopted a blues-based sound that went against the era’s glam rock grain. Their independently released EP Out Of The Night sold 20,000 copies and brought Great White to sign a deal with EMI America, which issued the eponymous Great White in 1984.

Shot In The Dark, their follow-up independent release, marked the arrival of drummer Audie Desbrow. By the time Capitol Records signed the band and reissued Shot In The Dark, keyboardist-guitarist Michael Lardie had come aboard. Great White then hit the road with DOKKEN and was on the verge of even bigger success. The 1987 follow-up Once Bitten…, which featured the hit tracks ‘Rock Me’, ‘Lady Red Light’, and ‘Save Your Love’, went platinum. Their next album …Twice Shy, which featured the Top 5 hit ‘Once Bitten, Twice Shy’, more than doubled that tally.
The late 80’s were boom years for the band, marked by non-stop touring with some of the biggest bands of the era and playing also in Europe and Japan. Great White recorded two more albums for Capitol – Hooked, which was certified gold and Psycho City.

Although Capitol issued a Best Of compilation in 1993, Great White had already departed the label to begin work on their next studio release, Sail Away, released on Zoo Records in 1994 supporting it with relentless touring. Their next release, Let It Rock in 1996.

Great White then signed with Portrait Records, an imprint founded by A&R guru John Kalodner that featured fellow hard rock acts such as RATT. Can’t Get There From Here was released in 1999 and is the band’s last studio opus thus far.

Frontiers Records plans to release the newest album at the end of August, 2007. More details will be released at a later stage.

Hard Rock HideoutAdd White Lion and UDO to the 2007 New Release List!

The 2007 version of WHITE LION (a.k.a. TRAMP’S WHITE LION), featuring original member Mike Tramp (vocals) alongside Claus Longwood (bass), Troy Patrick Farrell (drums), Jamie Law (guitar), and Henning Wanner (keyboards), has inked a North American management agreement with with the California-based Jeff Keller Management LLC (management home for STEPHEN PEARCY, HERMAN RAREBELL, AMERICAN HEARTBREAK, and OMEN, among others).

“Having been a longtime fan of WHITE LION, I am extremely pleased to be working with the band,” stated Keller. “Mike Tramp’s passion for the band is inspiring, and I look forward to working closely with him to build something strong in North America.”

WHITE LION is planning a small European tour starting with an appearance at Italy’s Gods of Metal festival on June 2 and including dates in Turkey, Italy and Sweden (where the group will perform at the Sweden Rock Festival on June 8). The band is also planning on releasing a new WHITE LION album late summer with a possible U.S. tour to take place mid-summer.

Tramp recently stated: “After much thought and consideration, I have decided to give TRAMP’S WHITE LION a second shot and make it a good one. I never felt good about giving up after our last agent messed up our plans for 2006 and we were left with nothing. Hard Rock Hideout

Gene Simmons does not want the original KISS lineup to reunite again.

A new Gene Simmons interview appears in the April issue of England’s Classic Rock magazine. Gene discusses his reality series “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” and “Gene Simmons Rock School”, (non-)marriage, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss and Paul Stanley. On the topic of Ace, Gene says, “I love him dearly, he’s a sweetheart, but he’s his own worst enemy. He’s great with lots of people around but when he’s alone he doesn’t like himself. And he numbs himself. He’s been numbing himself for 34 years that I know of. I don’t know how often I’ve seen him straight, but it’s almost never.”

As for Paul, there happened to be a spelling mistake in the advertisement for Paul’s solo album “Live to Win” in Classic Rock a few issues ago that some readers found very amusing. Instead of “Bulletproof”, one of the the album tracks was misspelled “Bulletpoof”. Says Gene, “That’s okay. Are you saying Paul pitches for the other side? It happens not to be the case, but I don’t hink there’d be any problems if he did. Some of your biggest heroes are on the other side. Halford and Freddie and Elton, for example. You English make more of that than any country in the world. In fact, the preconceived notion of the English male is gay. You know that. It’s based on the public schoolboy system. Sir Richard Branson told me all about it. The bullying often turns sexual. It’s rampant.”

Gene also talks about the possibility of the original band getting back together again. ‘I personally don’t want to,” he says. “I love Ace and Peter, always have, and because of my tough love thing I’ve never been shy about saying they’ve been drug addicts and alcoholics, and they’ve destroyed themselves.”

Is KISS now more of a heritage center than an actual band? “You can ask the STONES or Elton or anybody who’s been around for 30 years or more the same question,” Gene replies. “It’s valid to say it is; it’s valid to say it isn’t. You want to know when we’re going to do a new KISS record? The answer is: when we feel like it. And by the way, no matter what I said earlier, I reserve the right to change my mind about Ace and Peter any time I choose. ‘Never say never’ is true. How much did you say you want to pay is to get back together? How many hundreds of millions? People say you can’t be bought. Fucking-A right you can. Even God passes the hat around at the end of the sermon.”

11 2007 Hard Rock Releases

  • March 23, 2007

  • · Hard Rock News · Music

Hard Rock Hideout2007 is shaping up to be a quality release year on the Hard Rock Front.

January brought us 2 quality discs by JORN – The Gathering and Unlocking the Past, and Mask of Sanity from Sinner.

February was a brutally slow release month. The only thing I have picked up from February so far is Cornerstone – Two Tales Of One Tomorrow. I plan to check out the new discs from Rhino Bucket – Pain and Suffering and No Song Left Behind.

March on the other hand is bringing new discs from Masterplan – MKII, Pink Cream 69 – In10sity – I am anxiously awaiting both of those discs.
Shaw/Blades – Influence is also one I plan to check out, as well as the new Dokken – From Conception: Live 1981 ( with new unreleased studio tracks from George Lynch era Dokken and the Winger – Demo Anthology.

April is going to be a big release month. A new disc by Saxon called Inner Sanctum is on the way, as well as the debut by former Pantera Vinnie Paul’s new band Hell Yeah, a new disc by Gotthard called Domino Effect, and the new Night Ranger disc Hole in the Sun. W.A.S.P will release their latest effort, Dominator. The Black Sabbath – The Dio Years will also be released in April. This collection has 3 new tracks with Dio on vocals. You can hear one of these tracks now, by making a trip to the Hard Rock Hideout Forum. Black ‘N Blue will release their Rarities disc on April 24th.

May is going to bring a bunch of new tunes! Yea!!
Tesla’s cover disc Real to Reel, Megadeth’s highly anticipated United Abominations, Ozzy’s yet untitled disc and the new Rush disc, Snakes and Arrows. Scorpions is also releasing their new disc Humanity, Hour 1. A new Michael Bormann, ex-Jaded Heart led metal band named Bloodbound, will release Book of the Dead at the end of May. One release I am quite anxious for that the release date was recently annouced for is the new Russel Allen/ Jorn Lande disc called the Revenge! This is now coming in May!

June should bring a new disc by Velvet Revolver – Libertad. I have been hearing some great stuff about this one. It may turn out ot be one of the biggest discs of 2007, but time will tell. Dokken is also planning on releasing their new studio disc, Lightning Strikes Again. TNT will be releasing The New Territory with their new singer, former Shy vocalist, Tony Mills.

In the second half of 2007, we should see a new covers disc by Poison, a brand new disc from Lillian Axe and quite possibly some disc called Chinese Democracy (holding breath now) from Guns ‘N Roses. A new disc from the band that opened up for the Poison/Cinderella tour last year, Endeverafter, should be hitting around summer time. Lizzy Borden is promising a new disc by summer time

Sebastian Bach has a new solo effort called Angel Down that is supposed to be coming out in 2007. Baz has been silent as far as talking about the release date, but I am guessing that it wont be too much longer down the road.

Whitesnake’s new effort, tenatively titled Good to be Bad should hit around October.

Def Leppard is promising that their new disc, tentative titled Sparkle Lounge (does this title scare anyone else?) will hit before the end of the year.

Great White is expected to release their new studio album later this year.

Judas Priest will return with their monster release Nostrodamus!

I am sure their will be more to come, but these are the top discs on the way so far. Hard Rock is far from dead in 2007!
