Zero1Zero have managed to seamlessly marry technology and blazing hard rock aggression to forge a truly unique musical matrimony on their debut album “[degreesofseparation]”. Angry yet melodic, the group’s music paints a portrait of the future that is entangled in pain, art and passion. Recorded and mixed at Groundzero studio and OLS Productions (Cincinnati, Ohio) with Engineer Rob Nadler, the album has the sonic wallop of a band not just pushing the envelope but tearing it wide open.
“Most of the material is very dark thematically,” says guitarist and producer Zoe. “Themes dealing with questions- questions people don’t like to ask- questions about the world, your government, religion- questions about the truest motivations of others and ourselves.”
Zero1Zero bassist Aaron adds in describing the music “It is lyrically thought provoking, melodic, ferocious, sonically unique and penetrating. The music is cutting edge, electronically influenced with an emphasis on precision.”
The band’s explosive sound has drawn comparisons to an eclectic mixture of hard rock heavyweights like Nine Inch Nails, Korn and Stabbing Westward among others.

This makes me wish I had tickets for the Reunion show next month!!
Another Animal and Alter Bridge came to Cincinnati Wednesday Night. A late work night kept me from getting to the show on time, and I missed Another Animal all together! I was looking forward to seeing the band featuring Whitfield Crane on vocals. I have listened to Another Animal and Alter Bridge quite a bit as of late, and was also interested in seeing what the AB boys had to offer.
I am very impressed with the new Alter Bridge CD, Blackbird, and I am happy to report that band is doing a ton of songs off of the new disc.
I can’t recall the entire list, but the set list included: Before Tomorrow Comes, Brand New Start, Buried Alive, Broken Wings, Coming Home, Blackbird, White Knuckles and the first time the band has every played Break Me Down live.
The band did an Encore with a Led Zeppelin cover of Traveling Riverside Blues and an the songs Rise Today and Open Your Eyes.
I wondered if Myles Kennedy could handle some of the higher pitched vocals live, and let me tell you, this guy is the real deal. He hit every note, and was quite impressive. He is great singer, that is second to very few. Mark Tremonti was kicking everyone’s ass on the lead guitar. I think this guy must have a guitar for every new song that Alter Bridge plays.
Alter Bridge played an incredibly tight set, and had the crowd of 300 people singing along all night. It was a very good live show, and one that I would definitely go see again.
Here is a video so you can see what you are missing!
The band has a ton of dates left on this tour! Don’t miss them if they hit your town!

This CD mixes both styles in a genre of music that is a dying breed.
This is not a style of music that I enjoy, however I am sure that this band has a younger audience out there.
If you are curious, as far as how the band sounds, check out the video below for the song Suffa.
If you like this song, you may find more to like on Insomnia. The CD does have a couple of solid metal moments. Walk On By will appeal to some metalheads, as will the Buffalo Springfield remake of For What It’s Worth in the song Children.
Atlantis A.D. has a pretty cool guitar riff that I found myself liking somewhat.
If I enjoyed rap metal, I would have probably liked this disc a lot more than the rating below indicates. If you like this style of music, give hed (p.e.) a shot.

If you are a fan of the band Creed, then Alter Bridge probably needs no introduction. Alter Bridge consists of 3 former members of platinum recording artist Creed, and ex-Mayfield Four singer, Myles Kennedy.
With the new CD Blackbird, not only has the band crafted their finest work since the breakup of Creed, but they have also created what could be one of the best new hard rock records of 2007. Yes, It really is that good!
Blackbird starts off with a crushing rocker, Ties That Bind. This song sets the stage immediately for what I knew was going to be an incredible listening experience.
Come To Life has a cool groove, a heavy bass line, sing along lyrics, and killer guitar work. GREAT!!
The pace slows down a bit with Brand New Start. Myles Kennedy excellent voice shines almost as much as his guitar work on this track. More Great Stuff!
I have listened to Buried Alive a few times now and this song hasn’t impressed me as much as some of the others. It is slowly growing on me.
Coming Home has a very heavy bass line. This is another headbanging track that has a Tool like feel about it. Cool!
Before Tomorrow Comes will be a monster radio hit! This song is exactly the type of tune that Creed had some hits off. Soaring vocals and sing along lyrics. I love this song!
Rise Today is the first single and video from Blackbird. If you like this song, you are going to love this disc. This was the first song that I heard, and I knew that I had to hear more after listening to this one. Check out the video below:
Blackbird is the longest song on this disc, clocking in at nearly 8 minutes in length. This is like 2 or 3 songs wrapped up in one. At times, it has a stoner rock like feel, but then the music slows down, and Myles Kennedy’s voice takes off. The guitars really howl on this track. This is an extremely cool song that does not feel too long. In fact, you will find yourself replaying this one to pick up on things that you didn’t catch the first time around. Amazing!
The bass riff that starts off on One By One sounds like something that Tony Iommi would write. The song itself has a slightly darker feel to it, but once again the voice of Myles Kennedy powers this song to new heights. This song has some hit potential.
Watch Over You slows the tempo back down again. At this point Myles Kennedy has me saying Scott who? This guy has a killer voice!
Break Me Down is a song that I think could have had much more potential with a little different arrangement on the music. It is still a solid tune though.
White Knuckles is one of the heavier songs on Blackbird. Be prepared to headbang to this one!
Wayward One is a mid tempo, moody sounding song. It is a solid track, but not the strongest one on Blackbird. I probably would have mixed this song higher in the playing order, but that is just my personal taste.
Don’t even hesitate in picking this disc up! Blackbird is nothing short of a brilliant listening experience. You don’t even have to take my word for it! Alter Bridge have launched a special listening party for their fans a chance to check out the album in its entirety. Click this link to listen to Blackbird in its entirety. Warning…..you will be heading to store to purchase this one, if you take the time out to preview it!

Victory Pill, featuring ex-Pitchshifter and Prodigy guitarist JIM DAVIES and ex-Prodigy drummer KIERON PEPPER, have uploaded the video for the track “Worst Case Scenario” from their forthcoming Corporate Punishment debut below:
“The video was shot by DOSE PRODUCTIONS who did a few Pitchshifter videos. I have worked with them before and they were our first choice,” says Davies. “The video was shot in France in a bunker complex. The concept was just meant to be quite dark and grainy like the song and the guy in the video is basically slowly flipping out after taking a pill of some kind, it’s very claustrophobic. I wanted something quite moody to suit the song, although the end isn’t as uplifting as the end of the song as he blows his head off. Oops!”
“‘Worst Case Scenario’ was one of the first tunes I wrote for this band, it’s the most live sounding too,” continues Davies about the album’s lead single. “We used almost all live drums for this and it’s very bass heavy, not an amazing amount of guitar; in fact it’s quite sparse. Lyrically its very tongue in cheek; it’s about going through life and becoming very cynical about everything where you used to always expect the best outcome. This song is about always expecting the worst, which is almost a way of protecting ourselves from being constantly let down. I think anyone in a band knows what I mean. You have to put your faith in people that very often let you down completely and the music business is a very unfair place. I had quite a dark period musically several years ago when all I did was plan for the worst outcome so I wasn’t surprised when it came. But, I have to say the song isn’t meant to be all doom and gloom; the third verse is meant to be uplifting and to have you stop dwelling on the past and get on with it, it’s all good from now on. I’m not a miserable git, I promise!”
Victory Pill is the brainchild of JIM DAVIES of The Prodigy. His guitars shaped the group’s breakthrough album, Fat Of The Land, which included “Firestarter” and “Breathe”. Jim toured worldwide with the band including a headline slot at Reading 2001. Davies was also a contributing member of electro-metal outfit Pitchshifter who toured alongside Incubus and on Ozzfest. Davies contributed to the groundbreaking album, http://www.pitchshifter.com, as well as co-wrote the subsequent Deviant and PSI records. Davies last gig for Pitchshifter was immortalized in the Bootlegged, Distorted live album.
With that pedigree, it is no surprise then that the result is a mammoth debut album of inventive and infectious sounds, like the explosive songs, “Downfall” and “Another Clone,” as well as the critically acclaimed first single “Worst Case Scenario.”
Victory Pill will release their self-titled debut in North America on October 23rd, 2007 on Corporate Punishment Records. Fans can preview material from their forthcoming debut at
The band is currently offering a 1 of 2 free limited edition t-shirt designs to anyone who pre-orders the album through the Corporate Punishment website at the following location:
When I Was A Planet is a somewhat entertaining fusion of Punk and Metal.
This sound of Invitro kind of reminds me of Suicidal Tendencies at times. There is a lot of humor in the lyrics which will certainly crack a few smiles with even the toughest hard rock fan.
The heavy sound of this record may not appeal to everyone. Fans of the genre will probably like this, but those looking for a more mainstream hard rock effort, are probably not going to enjoy this record. This album does however have a noteworthy moment.
When I was a Planet is pretty good. The video below is pretty funny! This is the least heavy song on the record, and I like this one quite a bit.
As a whole, I found the album, When I Was A Planet a little too heavy for my taste. If you like your music on the heavier side, check out Invitro. You can find more info on Invitro at this link.

Nick Oliveri is no stranger to Ozzfest. He first took the stage in Ozzfest as the bassist for Queens of the Stone Age.
On Dead Planet, Nick handles the lead vocals and bass playing. Nick Oliveri’s razor sharp voice is one that takes a couple of listens to get used to, but I find his sound refreshingly different from so many of the singers that I have listened to as of late.
Mondo Generator has a punk/metal sound that I describe as Motorhead meets Velvet Revolver. The music on Dead Planet is extremely tight. The dual guitars of Ian Taylor and Spud are far better than I could have imagined.
Dead Planet gives you a wide selection of tunes. 17 songs averaging about 3 minutes in length. The cool thing about the short song length on Dead Planet is, if you find a song not to your liking, chances are 3 minutes later you will.
Stand out tracks are All The Way Down, Lie Detector, So High, Take Me Away, and Paper Thin.
I had no expectations when I first listened to this CD, and surprisingly liked this one a lot. If you are a fan of Nick’s former work in Queens of the Stone Age, get Dead Planet, you will love it. If you like the video above, for Lie Detector above, check out Mondo Generator, I think you will like them! You can hear more tracks at the band’s myspace page here.

You are probably asking, why on earth would a disc released in 2007 be in a Rare Rock Rewind segment?! My copy was a numbered edition that was autographed by the Metal God, Rob Halford. By the time you are reading this, the 5000 limited edition autographed copies will be sold out.
Metal God Essentials is a pretty cool package. The version I received came with a bonus CD, and a DVD with promo clips, behind the scenes and live performances in a nice digipak.
This CD is filled with cuts from the first two Halford releases Resurrection and Crucible, a few tracks from Rob’s former band Fight, as well as a couple of new cuts Forgotten Generation and Drop Out.
Metal God Essentials is full of quality cuts. If you don’t own any of Rob Halford’s music outside of Judas Priest, this is a great way to pick up some of the best tunes he ever did.
If Rob Halford continues to put out quality releases like this one, I will certainly be picking up more releases from his label as they arrive. If you are a Rob Halford or Judas Priest fan, you need to pick this up! Highly Recommended!

A hard rock show that neither my wife or I could miss came to Mason, Ohio on Saturday night. I have been a fan of Black Stone Cherry since I first picked up their disc in 2006. I am proud to say these hard rockers are from my homestate of Kentucky. After seeing them live last year, I knew I wouldn’t miss this show. Jackyl is a favorite of my wife’s, so this show was definitely a win-win situation for both of us. The fact that this was a free show didn’t hurt matters either. The stage for this show was erected outside the Aces and Eights Harley Davidson dealership. Live bands played all day to take part in their 7th anniversary celebration. The turnout for this show was pretty amazing. I estimate about 3,000 – 4,000 people were there (It could have been more. The area by the stage was completely packed.)
Black Stone Cherry took the stage around 7:15 or so. The band played several of the tracks from their CD including, Backwoods Gold, Lonely Train, and Hell and High Water. They also threw in a cover of Rick Deringer’s Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo, and a blues song that I was not familiar with.
Drummer John Fred Young is fun to watch playing the drums. His playing and appearance reminds me of a young Tommy Aldridge. The show ended with Ben Wills, Chris Robertson and bassist John Lawhon playing with their guitars behind their necks. Cool Stuff! The band came out and did a meet and greet after the show. I came home with an autographed copy of the CD, and the picture below.
As a whole, Black Stone Cherry’s part of the show was great, and I was glad that I got to see them again. This show was their second to last U.S. date. They are about to embark on their tour of the U.K. and Europe in October. Once they finish up their tour they are coming back home to work on album #2!! For you fans in the United Kingdom that are just catching onto Black Stone Cherry (their debut CD was released in Europe recently) be sure to catch these guys live, you won’t be disappointed!
Here is a video I took of the band performing Hell or High Water!
I have seen Jackyl several times before and they have always been entertaining. Saturday night was no exception. The band was one big part that music just happned to be part of.
Jesse James was loud, rude and somewhat funny last night, and the fans love him for that. He was obviously there to party and have a good time. There was plenty of times that band passed around a bottle of Crown Royal, and it was empty by the time the show was done.
Jackyl performed many of the band’s hits including: Down on Me, Dirty Little Mind, When Will It Rain, I Stand Alone, Secret Of The Bottle and closed out with We’re AnAmerican Band, She Loves My Cock, and the Lumberjack.
During the show, Jesse had a bunch of scantilly clad women join him on the stage to further his birthday part. One of which had a snake around her neck. The crowd full of rowdy bikers seem to enjoy it.
Jackyl was fun to watch, and I almost forgot how good their brand of Southern Rock can be.
Great free hard rock shows like this do not come around very often, and I was glad that my family and I came to this show. Hopefully, I won’t have to wait until 2008 to catch another free one! What a way to close out Live Week at the Hard Rock Hideout!
Here is Jackyl peforming I Stand Alone. Enjoy!
