4 Safety Suit, Hoobastank, Seether and 3 Doors Down Concert Review
Broadbent Arena had Louisville music fans out of their seats and in for a long night, with four acts taking the stage last week for a jam packed evening of rock at its finest.
The show opened with Safety Suit, and not knowing much about them I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but these boys from Nashville came ready to perform. When the show started the arena was far from full but Safety Suit played as though it was a packed house, and lead singer Doug Brown had great chemistry on stage. One of the highlights of this set was guitarist Dave Garofalo, who owned the stage with his high energy and skill on his instrument. Safety Suit played a five-song set that closed with one of their more popular songs Something I Said. I came to this show not really knowing anything about this group but I definitely left a fan.
After a brief intermission and set change, Hoobastank was ready to follow Safety Suit and keep the energetic vibes flowing. This set was a great surprise for me because I have been a fan of their music for a while and had no idea they would be performing. Lead singer Doug Robb’s ease on stage and witty banter (encouraging the crowd to procure their album any way possible, even if it meant taking a friends copy) instantly drew me in and my focus never had a chance to wander. Hoobastank performed several songs from their new album FOR(N)EVER, including So Close, So Far and the albums anthem My Turn. I always get a bit nervous when I know I am going to hear a huge hit and favorite song live but I was not disappointed when they closed the set with The Reason, if anything Robb’s strong vocals made me like the song that much more.
The excitement was running high through the crowd at this point in anticipation of Seether taking the stage, and it continued to build throughout their set. To say the front man of a hard rock band has a quiet demeanor is an oxymoron, but that is what intrigued me about lead singer Shaun Morgan. He stood in the middle of the stage rarely moving from his mic stand and hammered out hard core lyrics like the average person having a normal conversation. His presence is almost mesmerizing because performing seems to be second nature to him while the rest of the band fills the stage with energy. Seether performed many crowd favorites such as Rise Above This and Like Suicide, but I was utterly floored when Morgan took the stage to sing an acoustic version of Broken. His voice filled every corner of the arena with perfection and literally left me speechless. This duet with Amy Lee became one of Seether’s most recognizable hits but after hearing Morgan perform it alone on stage with just a guitar, I will never want to hear it any other way. Their hard core music had the crowd on their feet dancing in the isles but it is that beautiful rendition of Broken that I took away with me.
A collective applause rolled through the stands as the lights dimmed and the sound of a train signaled the arrival of 3 Doors Down. The five guys from Mississippi, standing tall above the crowd on silver risers, lit by a red screen, opened the show with The Champion in Me and moved right into Citizen Soldier without pause. Excited fans crowded the sides of the stage and every inch of the isles as 3 Doors Down delivered hit after hit, showing off the bands staying power in today’s difficult music industry. The set list included Be Like that, Loser¸ and Away from the Sun to name a few, and the stage boasted an oversized screen playing videos and special effects that never once distracted from the performance. Lead singer Brad Arnold didn’t allow for much down time as he let each song flow into the next but his vocals were on fire and didn’t waiver throughout the night. The band’s 60 minute set was highlighted with the right energy, the right lighting and the right combination of hard rock hits and some of the crowds’ favorite ballads. These guys crammed in as many songs as their time allowed and put on a show none of us would soon forget.
It is such a cliché to say “that was a great show” but Tuesday night at Broadbent Arena was just that, a great show. Each performance built upon the last to create an exciting concert that I would consider to be one of the best I have attended in a long time. I walked away with a renewed appreciation for some old favorites and a fan of some new music. This was my first time seeing each of these artists live and hopefully it will not be my last.

0 SafetySuit To Join Hinder and 3 Doors Down
Hot on the heels of ultra-successful runs with Theory of a Deadman, Seether and the Puddle of Mudd Tour, Nashville favorites SafetySuit will grace the stage alongside multi-platinum artists 3 Doors Down and Hinder for what is poised to be one of the biggest rock tours of 2009. They’ll be kicking off a month long run on January 22nd in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Nearly a year after their debut single “Someone Like You” hit airwaves SafetySuit have garnered critical acclaim and widespread appeal. “Someone Like You” broke through the Hot A/C Top 30 and Alternative Top 15, while the accompanying music video is steadily climbing the VH1 charts-hitting #8 on the Top 20 Countdown week of 12/22. Their second single “Stay” will be impacting at Top 40 and Hot A/C in February.
“SafetySuit is a fantastic artist development story,” said Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone. “They’ve built up a passionate grassroots following through constant touring, while our team has been working for the past year to seed their music across multiple platforms. They’re a great band with a long career ahead of them, and it’s gratifying to see everything coming together so beautifully.” To date four tracks from their debut album Life Left To Go, including “Someone Like You”, have been featured on the hit MTV reality show “The Hills”. The resulting sales increase is staggering; both mobile and digital track sales are up 1000% and full album sales are up 25%.

First Single From New Self-Titled Album Rock Radio’s #1 Most Added
Fastest Moving Active Rock Record in last Five Years
New Self-Titled Studio Album In-Stores May 27
(New York, NY, March 24, 2008) Universal Republic rock icons 3 Doors Down are putting up massive radio numbers with their first single, “Its Not My Time,” from their soon-to-be released self-titled album, due in-stores on
May 27. Their much anticipated fourth studio album has spawned rock’s biggest radio hit of the year so far, with the debut single becoming the fastest moving song at Active Rock radio in the past five years. The #1 most added song at Alternative radio the past 3 weeks in a row, “It’s Not My
Time” was also the biggest Gainer at the coveted rock radio format, leaping from #20 to #16 as it closes in on the prestigious 50,000 mark in digital sales in less than a month of release.
“The early radio success of “It’s Not My Time” is an incredible indication of more great things to come from this band and this album,” stated Monte Lipman, President & CEO of Universal Republic Records. “3 Doors Down have
become a signature presence in rock through hard work and passionate songwriting that speaks directly to their audience. They have delivered a career-defining album that we cannot wait to get into the hands of fans.”
The new CD has already got internet fans buzzing, with talk of other choice tracks such as the adrenalin-fueled “Train,” and the rousing “It’s The Only One You’ve Got“, pointing to more milestones from the Mississipi fivesome, from a new album steeped in rock anthems and power-driven radio hits.
The follow-up to their #1 debut album, 2005’s Seventeen Days, lead singer Brad Arnold cites this effort as perhaps the most communal band effort. “3 Doors Down has always been about every band member giving everything we’ve got,” says the singer/songwriter. “On this album we really wanted to make every song count. We owe it to our fans who have been there to support us from day one.”
The group’s followers have embraced “It’s Not My Time” in record numbers, making it one of the bigger request records of the new year. The single’s jump from #10 to #4 on the Active rock chart marks one of the fastest launches into the Top Ten of any 3 Doors Down song in their history.
With nearly 13 million albums sold worldwide, the fiery group has rewritten the rock script on maintaining commercial success and securing rabid fan appeal without bowing to trends or compromising their grassroots approach.
Braced by front-man Brad Arnold’s enduring vocal power, 3 Doors Down has put together an amazing streak of powerful albums and chart-topping singles, including their 6 million selling 2000 breakthrough effort, The Better Life,
and epic mega-hit signature songs such as the #1 “Kryptonite,” and “When I’m Gone,” from 2003’s 4 million selling epic, Away From The Sun.
The group also broke with convention when writing the songs for the new album, holing up in a Nashville cabin together until the songs were completed, and then hightailing it down to Orlando, FL, to record the new CD with producer Johnny K. (he also helmed Seventeen Days).
The group kicked off a Spring tour in Panama City Beach, FL. on March 20th, and continue on with promotional stops that include kicking off the Indy Race Car season on March 29th at the Homestead Miami Speedway, and a highly
touted upcoming show in association with the NCAA CokeFest on April 6 in San Antonio, CA. 3 Doors Down will film a Coke commercial during their show on the 6th which will air before the NCAA Championship Game on April 7. The
band are also lined up to appear at the Gridiron Bash in Tempe, AZ on April 18th.
On May 17th Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive his third 3 Doors Down car in NASCAR’s All Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
