Monster Truck is confirmed to appear with Alice in Chains for a run beginning on May 6 in North Charleston, SC at the North Charleston Coliseum.  The quartet will make these eleven arena appearances alongside just confirmed festival performances at Welcome To Rockville in Jacksonville, FL (4/26), Sun Fest in West Palm Beach, FL (5/04) and Rock On The Range in Columbus, OH (5/18). The band has been touring extensively across the globe for the last year, and look poised to rise with the increased audience exposure.

This follows an extensive coast-to-coast tour with Alter Bridge through many of the major markets across the U.S.  That 11-date tour will begin on April 14 in Dallas, TX and end on May 2 in Kansas City, MO.  All confirmed U.S. appearances are cited below.

Artists have long supported the rise of Monster Truck, and this heavy touring activity is a testament to their collective passion for the band.  The relationship the band cultivated with singer Myles Kennedy, who enjoys a prolific career as front man in Slash’s ensemble as well as being the vocalist of Alter Bridge, was the primary driver in delivering the April run.  Monster Truck toured extensively with Slash in 2013.  Alice In Chains Mike Inez offers, “Monster Truck is the real deal.  Familiar. Comfortable. Like an old pair of gig boots or sweaty pig sex with an ex girlfriend.  I wish them all the success in the World, but it’s not ALL because they are such great human beings and hardworking guys.  It is for a totally selfish reason too.  I just wanna jam the fuck out with ’em again sometime!  Cya out there on the road fellas.”

Monster Truck and Dine Alone Records have selected “The Lion” as the follow-up single to their debut hit “Sweet Mountain River” from the album, FURIOSITY.  The music video for that track premieres today on Billboard.com and can be screened here:  http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/5923176/monster-truck-the-lion-exclusive-video-premiere

The debut single “Sweet Mountain River” received substantial support in the U.S. from rock stations across the country.  In Canada, the song achieved the milestone of becoming #1 at the Active Rock, and Mainstream Rock, for eight consecutive weeks.  The follow-up track, “The Lion” stood at the top of the Canadian rock charts for six weeks, with the song impacting U.S. rock radio now.

The band was recently honored with a Juno Award Nomination for Rock Album of the Year for FURIOSITY.  The award will be presented to the winner on March 30 in Winnipeg.  Monster Truck took home the 2013 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of The Year, toured their home country of Canada with Alice In Chains, and established themselves as a major headlining attraction.  In the U.S., the band has been very active, appearing with Kid Rock, Slash, Guns ‘n Roses, Sevendust, and others, performing for hundreds of thousands of rock fans over the course of this year.  Overseas, the band appeared on a 29-date run of Europe supporting Vista Chino (formerly Kyuss).  This March, 2014, Monster Truck return to Europe as headliners of the “Lords of the Riff, Volume 1” tour in association with Classic Rock and Metal Hammer Magazines.  A short-form documentary capturing their essence as they travel the globe can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/IYLkY4mxcdk

Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Monster Truck was formed in 2009 by Jon Harvey (bass, lead vocals), Jeremy Widerman (guitar, vocals), Brandon Bliss (organ, vocals) and Steve Kiely (drums, vocals). What began as a side-project to their other more ‘serious’ bands quickly gained momentum and took on a life of its own.  The band has released 2 EPs since their inception; a self-titled, and notably self-released EP produced by Gus Van Go & Werner F (The Stills, Priestess, Hollerado) and The Brown EP (also produced by Ratz) on Dine Alone Records.

AliceinChains2014

ALICE IN CHAINS have announced the first leg of their 2014 headlining tour of North America, set to kick off April 25th at the Brady Theatre in Tulsa (itinerary beow). It’ll be a busy year for the band, who are also playing a slew of international festivals, including Soundwave in Australia, the Singapore Rock Festival, Italy’s Rock in Roma, France’s Main Square Festival, the Sonisphere Festival (sharing the stage with Metallica) in Switzerland, Warsaw and London, the Czech Republic’s Aerodrome Festival and Vienna’s Krieau Rocks.

In other words, they’re picking up where they left off in 2013, which saw them traveling the world on a sold-out tour that included dates in the US, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico, the UK and Canada. The band (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez) is touring in support of Grammy-nominated album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, which entered Billboard’s Top 200 chart at No. 2 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums Chart, Top Rock Albums Chart, Hard Rock Albums Chart and iTunes Rock Album Chart. The album’s first two singles, “Stone” and “Hollow,” both hit No. 1 on the rock charts with their companion videos racking up close to 5 million combined YouTube views.

Rolling Stone gave The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here three stars, as did USA Today, who praised it as an album of “undeniable power.” Spin called it “an assured, diverse, heated record with galvanized hooks, ”Pitchfork said it’s “as insistent as [1992’s landmark album] Dirt,” and the Seattle Times wrote, “Jerry Cantrell, William DuVall, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney continue to defy expectations” and that “Alice In Chains is better than ever.”

AliceinChains2013

As they gear up for the spring release of their much-anticipated new album, multi-platinum rock band ALICE IN CHAINS have announced a North American tour set to kick off April 25th at the Fillmore in Miami Beach (see itinerary below).

This past Thursday, the band teamed with VEVO to premiere the official companion clip for new track “Hollow.” Shot by award-winning director Roboshobo (Metallica, Mastodon, GreenDay), the hypnotically mind-trippy “Hollow” captures a man closed off and losing himself in an empty repetition of daily tasks until his last thread with reality is completely severed. The video can be seen at http://vevo.ly/U7WPDg and the song, which hit the top 10 on the iTunes Rock Chart, is available at http://t.co/HE12JnVT.

The video follows the recent release of a “Hollow” lyric clip that was created by fans and comprised of images submitted through Instagram.

Set for a spring 2013 release, Alice In Chains’ upcoming album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FooFighters, Deftones), who also produced the band’s hugely successful 2009 release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE. That album entered Billboard‘s Top 200 at No. 5, sold over one million copies, spawned two No. 1 hit singles (“Check My Brain” and “Your Decision”) and a third (“Lesson Learned”) that went top 10, earned two Grammy nominations and saw the band (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez) headlining a sold-out international tour that wrapped at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In a recent interview with Guitar World, Cantrell said, “In my opinion, that record stood up to anything else we’ve put out in our career. Hopefully, the new album will connect with people in the same way.”

2 Hard Rock Hideout Salutes the Fallen Rockers of April 5th!

April 5th is a horrible day for hard rock.  On this day, we lost not one, but four hard rock greats that I will not soon forget.

Cozy Powell (Black Sabbath) 1998, Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) 1994, Mark St. John (KISS) 2007, and Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) 2002 all died on this fate filled day.

Far too may rockers have died on this day!  Their incredible legacies have left behind some awesome tunes for us to enjoy.   Check out Black Sabbath’s “Headless Cross”, “Heaven’s on Fire” from KISS, “Man in The Box” from Alice in Chains and “Lithium” from Nirvana in the videos below.

Lead single “Check My Brain” set the album’s pace by blanketing rock and alternative radio and rocketing straight to #1 on Billboard’s Rock Songs Chart and #1 on the R&R Rock Chart. The band maintained chart domination with second single “Your Decision,” which also hit #1 on Billboard’s Rock Songs Chart and stayed there for 8 weeks. “Your Decision” also became the 12th top ten mainstream rock hit of Alice In Chains’ illustrious career.

Both fans and critics alike have responded to Black Gives Way to Blue with rave reviews since its #5 Billboard debut: Playboy gave it four stars, calling it “Alice In Chains’ Back In Black.” The Boston Globe wrote “Alice In Chains is back in business and business is good,” Metal Hammer said, “Alice In Chains are back and every bit as exciting and heavy,” a Guitar World magazine readers’ poll voted Black Gives Way To Blue “Rock Album of the Year” and at the recent Revolver Golden Gods Award show the band walked away with both the “Album of the Year” and “Comeback of the Year” honors.

Last month, Godsmack’s The Oracle debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200, becoming their third #1 album in America. The Grammy Award-winning Stone Temple Pilots are currently the #1 rock ‘n’ roll band in the country, as their first all-new collection in close to a decade, Stone Temple Pilots, now tops the Billboard Rock chart after debuting at #2. Additionally, STP’s raucous first single, “Between The Lines” has proven a rock radio sensation, recently spending three weeks as the #1 track at Modern Rock radio outlets nationwide. Last fall, Creed saw its reunion album, Full Circle, debut at #2 behind only Michael Jackson’s This Is It, while their DC3-produced DVD, Live, reached #4 and earned a Guinness World Record. And 3 Doors Down’s most recent album, 3 Doors Down, also debuted at #1.

With an unrivaled lineup of 20 bands over five nights and spectacular fireworks displays each night in the nation’s largest outdoor amphitheater at the 600-acre Glencoe CampResort, the ROCK ‘N REV FESTIVAL promises to be the hands-down largest party ever thrown at the world’s largest motorcycle event, which annually draws over a half million patrons. World famous showman Jim Rose and his circus are set to emcee the five-day event and give attendees a show they will never forget.

ROCK ‘N REV FESTIVAL also announces the additions of Three Days Grace, Hellyeah, Cage The Elephant, Theft, Sweet Cyanide, Charm City Devils and Rev Theory to the sweltering lineup, joining the likes of Eagles of Death Metal, The Darling Stilettos, Pop Evil, Skillet, and Swayback as just some of the other bands making massive music at this colossal biker bash.

Stay tuned for more major announcements of many more bands being added in the weeks ahead!

Everything about the ROCK ‘N REV FESTIVAL will appeal to the “leather and chrome” sensibilities in everyone who attends, from those who embody the biker life style to the more casually minded weekend warriors and their families. The Vendor Village will be overflowing with an assortment of food, clothing, gear and other accessories, including loads of top tattoo artists and the best barbeque and related cooking specialists from the nation’s sauciest hotspots such as Austin, Memphis, Chicago, and New Orleans. The overall Mardi Gras atmosphere will recall some of Europe’s top festivals, with a decidedly American flair. After all, biking and rock ‘n’ roll are two of America’s greatest heritages.

While live concerts always have been a staple at Sturgis, there never has been such an incredible concentration of high caliber performers being showcased in a five-day stretch. The unstoppable combination of first-class concert promotions in a first-class camping resort facility is unsurpassed anywhere.

Glencoe CampResort is world-renowned for its clean, comfortable camping facilities, complete with full-service bars and restaurants, in close proximity to the city of Sturgis, providing a resort-like experience for people attending the Sturgis Rally. Still family owned and operated, Glencoe is continuing to develop and improve in conjunction with DC3 Global’s new festival initiative ignited by the ROCK ‘N REV FESTIVAL. DC3 Global already is raising the bar with plans to expand its festival presence not only at Glencoe, but around the country. DC3 now is helping to oversee and accelerate the continued expansions and upgrades at Glencoe, already including the purchase of additional shaded acreage for camping, the planting of hundreds of new trees, and everything from roads, and the upgrades of bathrooms, food stands and shower houses.

DC3’s co-founder, Daniel E. Catullo III, has been involved in the Sturgis Rally since 2006, as exclusive producers of TV, pay-per-view and DVD specials for RTR in 2006 and 2007, and an executive producer of the Rock ‘N Rally Festival (2007). He’s combining his years of Sturgis experience with the tremendous resources of DC3 to significantly up the ante at Glencoe and launch an entirely new national brand for years to come with the ROCK ‘N REV FESTIVAL.

ALICE IN CHAINS COLLABORATE WITH FANS ON ONLINE “YOUR DECISION” COMIC CONTEST

CONTEST OFFERS FANS THE CHANCE TO WIN NYC FLYAWAY PLUS HAVE THEIR STORY IDEAS ILLUSTRATED AND IMMORTALIZED, BY POPCULT / DEVIL’S DUE COMICS

ALICE IN CHAINS has teamed with Popcult (in association with Devil’s Due Comics) for a promotion allowing fans to add their chapters to the controversial storyline depicted in the video for current single “Your Decision”.

The “Your Decision” comic picks up where the video leaves off, fans will determine how the story ends.  A tumblelog page featuring a master storyboard with comic’s opening chapter will be laid out at AliceInChains.com/YourDecision.

Fans can then post their suggestions for what they think should be the next chapter (in 150 words or less).  Once approved, all new chapter posts will be viewable to the public. They can be read, commented on and voted for / ‘liked’ by other users.  At each chapter stage, the submission with the most ‘likes’ will be the winner. Each winning submission will be elevated to the master storyboard and guide the path the story takes next. Winning entrants will see their chapter illustrated by Pop Cult / Devil’s Due Comics, and immortalized into the “Make Your Decision” comic book.

Fans are encouraged to share their submissions via Facebook and Twitter to pull extra votes. There will be five new chapters in total, so five opportunities to win.  Sign up to Tumblr to vote.

New single “Your Decision” recently cracked the Billboard charts, making it the 12th top 10 Mainstream Rock hit of Alice In Chains’ career. The track’s debauchery-filled video, inspired in part by the film Eyes Wide Shut, was shot in a Malibu, CA mansion and directed by Stephen Schuster.

1 Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way To Blue (2009)

AliceinChainsBlackGivesWayToBlueI didn’t think we would ever see another album from Alice in Chains after the death of singer Layne Staley.  It has been fourteen long years since the band’s 1995 self titled album.

I must admit that I had some reservations before listening to Black Gives Way to Blue.  Lets face it, Layne Staley left some pretty big shoes to fill.  Is Alice in Chains new singer William DuVall up to the challenge?

DuVall’s voice, mixed with the back up vocals of Jerry Cantrell gives Alice in Chains close to the same sound that helped the band sell millions of albums in the nineties. The big problem is DuVall’s voice is often hidden behind Cantrell’s voice, and the heavy guitars.  He isn’t really given a chance to shine as Alice in Chains new voice.

“Check My Brain” is a doom laden grunge masterpiece that only AIC could make work.  The guitars are tuned down, so that that the whole key of the song sounds utterly creepy, yet cool. The vocals on this song are perfect.  This sounds like classic Alice in Chains.

“Last of My Kind” looses a little bit of the doominess, but is still heavy as hell. This song requires multiple listens to fully appreciate.

“Your Decision” is an acoustic guitar  based track. This is the first song where DuVall’s voice is allowed to shine without the layers of guitar and heavy bass.  It sounds great and ought to be a single for Alice in Chains.

“A Looking In View” is the longest track on this album, but this moody mid-tempo number might be too long for its own good.  This song kind of plods along never really offers the listener a climax.  It is seven minutes of sludgey rock that I could have lived without.

“When the Sun Rose Again” is another acoustic track with some odd percussion thrown in for good measure.  This song doesn’t work for me either.

At this point in the record, I was hoping to stumble upon a hit worthy tune from AIC.  Hopefully somewhere on this disc is a monster song that I could not live without. I wouldn’t call it a monster track, but “Lesson Learned” is more like the AIC of old.  A cool heavy tune.

“Take Her Out” is another heavy mid tempo number that resembles the classic AIC sound.

The closing and title track “Black Gives Way to Blue”  is a tribute to Layne Staley.  The piano on this song is played by none other than Elton John. Yes, you read that correctly. This is a very slow and short tune, but is also quite amazing.  It is a very cool tune that honors Layne Staley well.

Does Black Gives Way To Blue live up to the Alice in Chains legacy?  No, I don’t think it is even close. The vocals are great. The guitar work is great.  So where does the problem lie?

The overall pace of the album is pretty slow, and the songs don’t stick with you. Once upon a time, the band could write some pretty cool grungy rockers with lyrics that were ultimately catchy and memorable. There just aren’t enough of these on this record to make me want to play it a whole bunch.  Yes there are songs that I like on this disc, but even with repeated listens something appears to be missing.  I am glad Alice in Chains is back, but Black Gives Way To Blue is ultimately disappointing.

“We were thinking about adding piano to the track and a friend suggested we call Elton,” recalls guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell. “I remember laughing and saying, ‘Yeah, I’ll get right on that.’ But I decided it was worth trying and wrote Elton an email explaining what that song means to us — that it’s a real, raw openhearted song for Layne. We sent him the track and got a call shortly after saying he thought it was beautiful and that he wanted to play on it. We were blown away. Elton John is a huge influence on me as a songwriter and having him on that song is an amazing honor for us.”

“I’ve long been an admirer of Jerry Cantrell and when he asked me to play on ‘Black Gives Way To Blue,’ I was very flattered and couldn’t resist,” says John. “It was a great recording session with Alice In Chains for a beautiful song. ”

About the collaboration, Cantrell says, “Elton was finishing his Red Piano run in Vegas, so we flew there and hung out for a few hours. Walking into a studio and seeing the sheet music for that song on Elton’s piano made it meaningful on so many different levels. The whole experience was pretty magical.”

BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE is Alice In Chains’ first new studio release in more than 10 years. The quartet (guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez and guitarist/vocalist William DuVall) recorded the album with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters) at Studio 606 in Northridge, CA and Henson Studios in Hollywood.

Alice in ChainsALICE IN CHAINS are giving fans a sneak preview of their highly anticipated upcoming album BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE (Virgin/EMI) by posting a brand-new song online. The seven-minute-long track, titled “A Looking In View,” is currently available for free download on www.aliceinchains.com or for pure listening enjoyment on www.myspace.com/aliceinchains. A companion video for the song is forthcoming and its trailer is available on the band’s official website. “A Looking In View” will appear on BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE, in stores September 29th.

About “A Looking In View,” Alice In Chains vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell says, “The song basically speaks to any number of things that keep you balled up inside. A cell of our own making with an unlocked door that we choose to remain in. Focusing our attention inward instead of reaching out to a much larger world. I think this is common to us all. It’s funny how hard we fight to hang on to a bone we can’t pull through a hole in the fence, or how difficult it is to put down the bag of bricks and move on.”

On July 18th, Alice In Chains will be sharing the stage with Kid Rock at Comerica Park in Detroit, to be followed by festival shows with Metallica overseas, including an August 1 date at Marlay Park in Dublin and an August 2 show at the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth. They’ll wrap up the international trip with a string of headlining dates, set to kick off August 4th with a sold-out performance at London’s Scala. On August 22, they’ll join Tool and Linkin Park for the first-ever Epicenter show at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA, to be followed by a headlining tour set to kick off September 4th at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. Tickets for the U.S. shows will be available Friday, July 10th. For information, please visit www.aliceinchains.com.
