4 Johnny Diesel and the Injectors – S/T (Release Year – 1989)
I must admit that I never heard of Johnny Diesel and the Injectors until 2008. After I read about these guys, I felt compelled to seek out their 1989 self titled CD to see what they were all about.
I expected these guys to be a simple pub rock band in the vein of AC/DC. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Johnny Diesel and the Injectors has a sound that probably has more in common with John Mellancamp than with AC/DC. Johnny Diesel has a pretty good voice. His vocals have a slight bit of rasp to them. This really helps drive the harder rocking tunes on this disc.
There aren’t too many rock bands employing a saxophone player in today’s music. I love the saxaphone, and I think it adds a lot of character to the music on this disc. It often takes the emphasis off of the lead guitar, and even though Johnny Diesel is a solid guitar player, Bernie Bremond might be a
better sax player.
There are several good songs on this disc including “Lookin For Love”, “Cry In Shame”, “Soul Revival”, “Don’t Need Love”. I really don’t think there is a bad song on this disc.
Something that surprised me about Johnny Diesel was the fact that there were several music videos released for this album (Check them out below). I don’t recall seeing any of these on MTV back when the station played videos. It is a real shame too. This album could have been huge in the United States, if was given a little bit of support.
You can practically steal this disc off of Amazon.com. If you are looking for something different to enhance your playlist, you ought to give Johnny Diesel & The Injectors a look. This disc was a nice surprise for me. I have enjoyed this disc quite a bit, and I think a bunch of you will to.

1 Hell City Glamours – S/T (Release Year – 2008)
The Hell City Glamours have returned in 2008 with their first full length CD. On this disc, H.C.G. have spread their wings and tapped into their influences of such great Australian acts, Rose Tattoo and The Angels.
While I enjoyed the earlier EP’s by H.C.G., this disc is far superior to anything the band has done yet.
“One Night Only” captured my attention immediately with its rocking bluesy riffs. This is pub rock at its finest.
Can you ever have enough cowbell? “Back To You” has it, and I wish it had more, but this is a fun tune. Their is guitar riff on this song that brings Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to mind.
“Josephine” is a bluesy punk rock tune with a cool Angels meets Midnight Oil type of vibe.
One of my personal favorites is lively rocker “Flying Away”. This is the kind of song that gets your foot tapping, and your cold beers emptied faster.
I am a sucker for a good guitar riff. The opening guitar licks on “Right My Wrongs” pulls me in every time.
Every time I listen to the song “I’m Not Here” I kept thinking to myself, “man this song reminds me of someone”. Finally, I determined it to be the band D-A-D from Denmark. That is pretty cool, as I like that band too.
Some other album highlights are “The Money”, the radio ready “Worst Kind of Man” and the catchy album closer ‘Thankyou”.
I am glad the Hell City Glamours finally put a full length album for the masses to consume. This is a solid release and ought to open up some new doors for these Sydney based rockers.
If you haven’t checked out the Hell CIty Glamours before, pay a visit to their myspace site, and check out their new tunes. Tell them HardRockHideout.com sent you!

0 Fallen Silver – Blood In Blue Eyes (Release Year – 2007)
“Pub Rock” must be an entirely Australian term because the only time I have heard it used is in describing Australian bands. AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, the Angels (aka Angel City), Jet, and Airbourne are just a few of the known “Pub Rock” bands. So being a fan of all five bands I was looking forward to listening to what newcomers Fallen Silver had to offer and needless to say this 5 piece band from Sydney did not disappoint in the least bit.
It all kicks off with “East L.A.” which has a great bass line from Mick Garside and while you can definitely hear an AC/DC influence both this song and the second song “Loaded Gun” automatically made me think of Johnny Crash. I can’t compare singer Matt Chambers to Vicki James Wright but the songs lyrics and groove made me want to hear “Neighbourhood Threat”. I can’t forget guitarist Doug Nekic, he delivers two smokin’ solos for these songs.
Not to stand on AC/DC’s influence alone. The title track “Blood In Blue Eyes” starts out acoustically with Chambers trying to channel a little Robert Plant before the song kicks in to a Bad Company feel. Really how can you go wrong when one song makes a person think of both Led Zeppelin and Bad Company.
Mick Garside shines in the spotlight again on “Fire Walk With Me” with more great bass lines, while the song has a more alternative feel it took me a while to get into it but after a few listens I found myself loving it.
Snake Eyes and Sunset are the other two tracks that really stood out to me more great blues based rock and the album closes the same way it opened with guns blazing on the track “Pissin’ on the Poor Man“.
Without a doubt Mick Garside and Doug Nekic are the stars of this album with great playing from start to finish. Drummer John Duffy and rhythm guitarist Tony Vulic are also solid throughout the album. In all honesty it took me a while to get used to Matt Chambers voice but once I did. I saw how well it fit with the songs.
If you want flashy pretty boys prancing around Fallen Silver is not for you. But if you want sweaty, beer and cigarettes blue collar rock-n-roll they definitely deliver that and more.

9 The Angels – Face to Face (1978)
The Angels’ Face to Face was released in 1978, and in 1980 in the United States under the moniker Angel City (the U.S. already had a band named Angel). This band was influential on several hard rock acts including one of the more recent acts Airbourne. Knowing this, I had to seek out a copy of the Face to Face to see what The Angels had to offer.
The Angels have a sound that is riff-heavy, pub rock similar to but not the same as AC/DC. This band isn’t quite as heavy, and singer Doc Neeson’s voice isn’t as abrasive as Bon Scott’s or Brian Johnson’s voice.
The overall production value on Face to Face definitely sounds a little
dated. Their is no question that this music came from the 70’s. While the music isn’t unlistenable, it is just doesn’t meet the quality of today’s recordings.
I don’t know if I would call Face to Face essential, but there are some good songs to found here. “Take a Long Line”, “Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again”, “Can’t Shake It” (which was later covered by Great White on their 1991 CD, Hooked), and “No Exit” are the best songs in my opinion. All of these tunes sound as if they would translate well live. They are songs that will get you on your feet, and get you rocking. A couple of these songs should have got some radio play in the U.S., but for whatever reason never seemed to crack the U.S. airwaves. It is a shame, as The Angels are solid act, even though they are largely unknown on U.S. soil.
Those of you looking to track down a copy of Face to Face are in luck. You can find new copies of this CD at Amazon.com for under 10 bucks. Check them out!

1 Nobody’s Fool – S/T (Release Year – 2006)
More and more cool rock keeps coming from the land down under.
Sydney, Australia’s Nobody’s Fool has a sound deeply rooted in 80’s style hard rock/ glam metal.
Their self titled record is actually their fourth cd, but the first one that I have been able to listen to. Hair metal fans should rejoice, as you will very likely enjoy what you hear on this disc.
There are quite a few rockers, and some slower tunes to even things out. Milosz Wozniak isn’t the strongest singer I have listened to as of late, but his voice works with this style of music.
There are some solid tunes worth checking out on this record including, Tie Me Up, Scorned, the power ballad Forever, and the hard rocking Temptation.
This CD is a solid slab of 80’s style hair metal. If you like the videos below, definitely seek out a copy of this disc.

3 Airbourne Ebay Insanity Part III

Another copy of Airbourne’s 8 song EP, Ready To Rock showed up on Ebay. I was hopeful to grab this copy as the bidding started out slow. Much to my disappointment, it didnt’s stay that way.
The latest copy of Ready to Rock sold for $330.00. Plus 3.75 shipping. That is $42.09 per song.
Total Insanity!
2 Return of the Angels

FOR almost a decade, the members of The Angels wondered if they would ever see their frontman Doc Neeson’s face again.
After eight years of separation and regular legal stoushes over the rights to use their name, Neeson and his bandmates have decided to reunite.
Neeson left The Angels in 2000 after a near-fatal car accident which almost ended his performance career.
The remaining members of the classic Angels line-up – John and Rick Brewster, Chris Bailey and Buzz Bidstrup – continued to perform the hits under a few different monikers which included their trademark.
When Neeson recovered sufficiently to tour, he formed the band Doc Neeson’s Angels and the legal battle over the title began in 2004.
The charismatic frontman lodged an injunction in the NSW Supreme Court in August last year to stop his former bandmates promoting themselves under the original appellation.
Both parties agreed to mediation and after finally sitting in a room together after several years of “estrangement”, decided to get the old band back together.

3 The Deadthings – Dead Over Heels
Australian band, The Deadthings proclaim themselves to be Australia’s No. 1 glam band. If their look is anything to go by they are off to a good start! There is no doubt these guys have a fantastic image and style that we glam fans appreciate. They look dynamite, complete with lots of hairspray and ghoulish makeup.
‘Dead Over Heels’ follows on from their previous albums ‘When Hell Sleazes Over’ and ‘Who Killed Holly Would’ – you
just have to love the titles to these – and the song monikers are similarly inventive and death related. Lyrically they are very refreshing and clever. Lyrics full of blood, death, sex all done tongue in cheek style. While their previous releases were quite punk influenced, ‘Dead Over Heels’ is going in a more 80s sleazy hair metal direction.
Stand out tracks: ‘Christine’s Curse’ complete with a spooky sounding start. ‘Devil with an Angel’s Kiss’ is pure glam metal and sure to be a crowd pleaser. ‘Crimson Rain’, another fantastic song title and again this has killer metaphoric lyrics. The Real Life cover of ‘Send me an Angel’ is a rocky and good rendition, although the backing vocals could use a bit more punch. This music is like Tigertailz meets Black ‘N Blue.
My only complaint is that this album really doesn’t do The Deadthings justice and that is because of the poor quality of the production. It sounds thin and sometimes tinny. I’d love to hear these great songs with bigger backing, a heavier production style and some polish. It would turn a good release into something great.
The Deadthings have built a strong live following and have had rave reviews about their live performance by putting on a highly visual show that not only sounds good, is fun to watch. Be sure to check them out if get the chance. A band with great potential and one to keep an eye on.

38 Airbourne – Running Wild (Release Year – 2007)
Getting my hands on a copy of Airbourne’s debut, Running Wild has been one of 2007’s biggest ordering challenges. After a month of waiting and a few follow up calls to check on my order, the disc finally arrived in the mail. The $25,000 question is, was this disc worth the wait.
Damn straight it was! Running Wild could end up being one of my top hard rock CD’s of the year.
Airbourne’s style of music is easily compared to AC/DC type of party rock. These Aussie rockers do it right by coming out with a full disc of hard rocking tunes that totally kick ass! Songs that are full of great drumming, guitar solos, sing along choruses and massive energy. What more could you want?
Stand Up for Rock ‘N’ Roll is the type of anthem that will get you off of your Barcalounger, make you throw your fist in the air, and scream “Hell Yeah”! This is a high energy rocker that will make you a new Airbourne fan on the first listen.
Runnin’ Wild is a catchy sing along anthem, that will give you whiplash from all of the headbanging you WILL be doing.
Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast is the first song that I ever heard by Airbourne. It only took one listen for me to start trying to find out more about this group. This is another sing along anthem that rocks hard.
If the first three videos above haven’t made you a fan yet, you have probably clicked on the Hard Rock Hideout address by accident.
Those of you that are still reading are probably asking, “how are the rest of the songs?” Without breaking the songs down any further, every single song on this record rocks. Their are no wimpy power ballads. There are no songs that you will want to skip. This is great party music all the way until the last song Let’s Ride.
WARNING!!After you listen to this disc, the first time, you may find yourself hitting repeat.
I have heard a lot of bands recreate the AC/DC sound over the years, and I think Airbourne does it better than most of them. Running Wild is a compact disc that will surpass the expectations of most hard rock fans. 80’s rock fans and AC/DC fans will love this.
You can pick this up at Impulse Music, CD Inzane, and a through the HRH storefront at Amazon.com. Go Get It!
You can check out Airbourne on the web at their myspace page here, and at AirbourneRock.com.

5 Airbourne signs with Roadrunner records!!
ROADRUNNER RECORDS SIGNS AUSTRALIAN ROCKERS AIRBOURNE:
Press Release / New York, NY- Roadrunner Records is proud to announce the signing of Aussie hard rockers, Airbourne. Forming a genuine brand of fist-pumping, beer-slinging rock ‘n’ roll, Airbourne have established a respectable name for themselves in their native country. Although still very young, the band sonically tears pages from the bible of anthemic rock of the 70’s and 80’s, taking us back to a time where music was loud, fiercely genuine and hook laden. Their dynamic and energetic live performances offer a much-needed cure for the downtrodden vibe of popular music. Much like their forefathers, Airbourne offers nothing but a good time! Airbourne is: brothers Joel O’Keeffe (vocals/lead guitar) and Ryan O’Keeffe (drums), David Roads (guitar) and Justin Street (bass).
Forming out of the musical connection of two brothers, Airbourne was conceived by Joel and Ryan O’Keeffe, and was vested in their mutual love for bands such as Rose Tattoo, Van Halen, Motörhead, AC/DC and The Angels. Later joined by David Roads and Justin Street, the quartet set out to make straightforward rock ‘n’ roll, complete with catchy choruses, decadent themes and the driving rhythm to match.
“It’s hard to explain,” vocalist/guitarist Joel O’Keeffe states, “but that’s what I always wanted to hear – straight-ahead Aussie pub rock.” The resulting product was a stripped down approach to rock with song titles to match the party oriented sentiment. Investing time and money for the love of the music, the band spent years working the local circuit, eventually graduating to national tours and exposure. Years of hard work paid off, catching the attention of music fans throughout Australia and the world.
Roadrunner senior VP of A&R, Ron Burman, instantly fell in love with “their brand of anthemic, catchy, hard rock-n-roll.” He states, “I am so excited that we signed Airbourne. They are a young, fists in the air, high energy, in-your-face type of hard rock band. I saw them play a few times in Austin at South By Southwest and they blew me away.”
Sharing national stages with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Motley Crüe and The Living End, the band has honed in on its performance Zen. A live show is sure to include bursting energy, rowdy crowds singing their hearts out and free-flowing beer. “We always go on-stage and try to prove a point,” O’Keeffe directs, “about how GOOD rock ‘n’ roll is!” The band takes on the mission to spread that infectious love of rock, even performing at Australia’s biggest rock festival in 2006, Big Day Out. They are currently playing dates throughout Australia.
In June the band released Runnin’ Wild, a red-blooded collection of rallying rock anthems with undeniable choruses and feel good momentum in Australia. Scheduled to be released in the US and Europe through Roadrunner Records in early 2008, the album channels the endearing qualities of classic rock while breathing new life through modern production and arrangement. Boasting an all-star team, Runnin’ Wild was produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot) and mixed by Andy Wallace (Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Linkin Park). With lead tracks such as “Runnin’ Wild,” “Stand Up For Rock n Roll,” and “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast,” Runnin’ Wild will be the new soundtrack to all-night partying. Airbourne have risen to the challenge and are ready to bring their authentic brand of power rock to the US in 2008!
