Since their early nineties inception, Black Label Society, formed and helmed by guitar legend Zakk Wylde, has been at the forefront of hard rock. Their penchant for hard riffs and blazing solos has resulted in a slew of hugely successful albums and a reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation. “Unblackened,” however, unveils another side of the band.
Filmed and recorded earlier this year in high definition at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia, “Unblackened” is Black Label Society presenting their songs in a whole new light, with greater use of acoustic instrumentation. Wylde plays both guitar and piano, with Nick Catanase on guitar, John DeServio on bass/vocals, Chad Szeliga on drums, Derek Sherinian on keyboards/piano, and Greg Locascio providing additional vocals.
Their stripped-down approach highlights the subtler nuances of the songwriting, without losing any of the fire or intensity. Classic tracks like “Stillborn,” “The Blessed Hellride,” “In This River,” “Throwin’ It All Away,” “Losin’ Your Mind,” and many others are still punctuated by the stinging, searing solos that fans know and love, while showcasing the versatility of the band.
In addition to the concert, “Unblackened” is rich in bonus material. A new interview with Zakk, photo gallery, music video for “Losin’ Your Mind,” and a feature with Wylde visiting HM Prison Stocken in the U.K . are all included.
Zakk Wylde, who has been called one of the true guitar heroes of the past 20-plus years, served as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist for over 20 years in addition to his work with BLS. 2 Thin Lizzy, Black Label Society & Judas Priest Photo Gallery – U.S. Bank Arena -Cincinnati, Ohio – November 8th, 2011
Thin Lizzy, Black Label Society & Judas Priest invaded Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena on November 8th. Check out our Photo Gallery, & mini review below.
Thin Lizzy which is now fronted by The Almighty’s Ricky Warwick, sounded amazing. Warwick’s vocals are very similar to the late Phillip Lynott, and he does an excellent job. Damon Johnson (Brother Cane, Alice Cooper Band) is the bands newest guitarist replacing Vivian Campbell, and Richard Fortus. He seems to fit in quite well. I have never seen Thin Lizzy before, and was amazed at how good they sounded. I was thrilled to see this classic band in action. They lineup has changed several times over the years, but Thin Lizzy still rocks.
Black Label Society put on one of the loudest shows in recent memory. I am pretty sure the folks eating wings at Hooters in Newport, KY (that is down the river from U.S. Bank Arena) could hear Zakk Wylde & company. Black Label Society’s sound guy must have had all of their amps set at maximum volume. The only problem with this was, Zakk’s vocals were inaudible. I know all of Black Label Society’s music, and I could watch Zakk Wylde & company play all night. Wylde is a killer guitarist, and as much as I love his playing, I like his vocals even more. I was disappointed that I couldn’t hear them. Aside from that, Black Label Society sounded great.
Judas Priest took the stage and proceeded to play for over two hours. They covered songs from just about every facet of their career. The Metal God, Rob Halford is still getting it done in 2011. The 60 year old front man, may not be able to hit all of the notes he used to, but he still sounds great. Ritchie Faulkner who has replaced the retired KK Downing on lead guitar, not only looks the part, but does an amazing job. KK Downing will always be missed, but Faulkner has injected new life into Judas Priest. The Judas Priest set included the following songs: “Rapid Fire”, “Metal Gods”, “Heading Out to the Highway”, “Judas Rising”,”Starbreaker”, “Victim of Changes”, “Never Satisfied”, “Diamonds & Rust”, “Dawn Of Creation”, “Prophecy”, “Night Crawler”, “Turbo Lover”, “Beyond the Realms of Death”, “The Sentinel”, “Blood Red Skies”, “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)”, “Breaking the Law”, “Painkiller”, “The Hellion”, “Electric Eye”, “Hell Bent for Leather”, “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'” and “Living After Midnight”.
This is Judas Priest’s Epitaph tour, meaning the band will not longer do world tours from here on out. There was only four – five thousand in attendance at the Cincinnati show, which I though was extremely disappointing. This may be the last time we get to see Judas Priest perform in our area. Judas Priest put on an excellent that was a feast for the ears & the eyes. The show filled with pyro, lasers, and more importantly some legendary metal tunes played to perfection.
There are only a few tour dates left on the Epitaph tour. If you live in one of the areas below, you should definitely get a ticket for this show.
30 November 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre, Tampa
1 December Klipsch Amphitheatre at Bayfront Park, Miami, FL
3 December Hard Rock Biloxi Hotel & Casino, Biloxi

“We are honored that Rock On The Range has asked us be one of the headliners,” says M Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. “Not only is it an amazing show to be apart of, but it holds a deep spot in our hearts. 5 New Video – Black Label Society – Overlord (Director’s Cut)
Black Label Society has released a whacky new video ‘Overloard” on their VEVO channel. This video is in support of the new Black Label Society album, Order of the Black.
Check it out below!
1 Black Label Society – Order of the Black (2010)
With eight albums in eleven years, Black Label Society’ has been one of the hardest working bands in heavy metal. Order of the Black may not offer you too many surprises, but it does have a bunch of kick ass metal that BLS has been known for.
The opening track “Crazy Horse” is about the legendary Native American Crazy Horse, who fought against General Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn. This is a ripping track with some cool subject matter. I love the rhythm on this song. The thundering drums and thumping bass is killer. Zakk’s riffs are awesome as well.
According to Zakk Wylde, he broke two blood vessels in his brain singing “Overlord”. Zakk might not be the best vocalist I have ever heard, but you have to have give him credit. I haven’t heard of another singer singing so hard that he caused himself an injury. That is as METAL as it gets. I love the Wah pedal intro on “Overlord”. I wish it would have been used in the song a little more, but this is still very cool.
“Parade of the Dead” is the first single from Order of the Black. For a three and a half minute tune, “Parade of the Dead” is packed with guitar riffs. Zakk plays his ass off, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Darkest Days” is the first of three piano based numbers, and is easily my favorite out of the three. (“Time Waits for No One” and “Shall Grave are the other two.) I love it when Zakk Wylde slows it down, and shows the other side of his talent. His voice might actually be stronger on the slower numbers than on the heavy ones. If he ever decided to pursue something besides metal music, he certainly has the talent to do so. I am a fan of his pre-Black Label CD, Pride & Glory, and this style always brings that southern rock style to mind.
If “Darkest Days” was too slow for you, “Black Sunday” is the face melting tune you were waiting for. Heavy riffs are in abundance in this rocker.
Zakk sounds like he stole a killer riff from Tony Iommi on “Southern Dissolution”. About mid way through this song, their is a guitar lick that is awesome. I believe Zakk should have built this song around that riff. This would have been a much better song. It isn’t bad, but not as catchy as it should be.
If you aren’t headbanging to “Godspeed Hell Bound”, your stereo must be broken. The double bass drums, and galloping bass rock hard on this song. This is easily one of my favorites on Order of the Black.
“War of Heaven” has a doom laden song that reminds me a lot of Black Sabbath. After listening to this song a couple of times, I wonder if Zakk Wylde took his inspiration for this song from the “Book of Revelation”. You have to hear the song to understand what I mean.
“Chupacabra” is Zakk Wylde’s answer to Van Halen’s “Spanish Fly”. It is a brief instrumental track that doesn’t really add much to the album.
Is Order of the Black, Black Label Society’s best release to date? While I have enjoyed this CD, I don’t think it is. I believe Black Label Society have had more memorable songs on their previous albums. Order of the Black is good, and it does rock, it just isn’t the best I have heard from BLS.

2 E1 MUSIC SIGNS BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
BlACK LABEL SOCIETY FEATURING GUITAR ICON ZAKK WYLDE, BLS’S NEW ALBUM IS DUE OUT SUMMER 2010
E1 Music announces the addition of guitar icon Zakk Wylde’s band, Black Label Society, to its rock and metal roster. The two album deal covers North America exclusively.
Wylde formed Black Label Society (BLS) in 1994 as a vehicle for his own artistic vision: uncompromising, unfiltered, no bullshi* rock’n’roll. The band quickly became a touring juggernaut and went on to release seven successful studio albums which have sold well over a million and a half albums total.
Wylde has been no stranger to success over the years. At only 19 years old, he was tapped to join Ozzy Osbourne’s band as lead guitarist and co-writer. He performed with Osbourne for nearly twenty years. While under Osbourne’s tutelage, he formed Black Label Society and in the decade since, BLS has turned the notion of what a rock band should be upside down by inspiring legions of fans (known as Berserkers) all over the world to follow the mantra: Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever. SDMF for short, the Berserkers, along with Wylde have created a heavy metal institution true to his vision of uncompromising, unfiltered and unrestrained rock and roll.
E1 Music VP of Metal Scott Givens comments on the deal, “Rarely does the opportunity come along to sign an artist as talented, influential and important as Zakk Wylde. I am thrilled to welcome him to the E1 Music Group. He is the future of our company and all of us are battle ready to go to the wall for him.”
Zakk Wylde said about the pairing, “I’ve known Scott Givens since I first joined Ozzy, and we’ve always looked for an opportunity to work together…everything came together at E1. I cannot wait to bring new BLS Nationwide on E1!”
Black Label Society will release a new studio album in late summer 2010. The band will also embark on its annual BLACK LABEL BASH tour in the fall.

1 Pedal To The Metal Tour Dates & Info INAUGURAL “PEDAL TO THE METAL TOUR” FEATURING MUDVAYNE AND BLACK LABEL SOCIETY TO LAUNCH THIS SUMMER
This summer just got a whole lot hotter, harder, faster and louder. THE PEDAL TO THE METAL TOUR 2009, featuring MUDVAYNE and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, will kick off July 24 in Portland, ME, and conclude September 9, in Oklahoma City, OK (see complete itinerary below). Joining the two metal juggernauts on the road will be STATIC-X, SUICIDE SILENCE, DOPE, BURY YOUR DEAD, and the extremely twisted HELLZAPOPPIN sideshow review, performing during set changes throughout the evening. Pre-sale tickets are available to all of the bands’ fan club members beginning Wednesday, June 10, at 12pm local time at www.pedaltothemetaltour.com (website will go live June 10), with general public on sale beginning Friday, June 12, at 10am local time. “The tour started as a summer tour with us and Black Label Society, but as we started fleshing out ideas, it transformed into this really cool concept,” says Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray. The final result is the inaugural run of THE PEDAL TO THE METAL TOUR, a road ready and battle-proven assemblage of hard rock and heavy metal bands guaranteed to raise temperatures and melt asphalt over the summer months. “We’re really excited, because this package is a merging of great bands, good people and fucking amazing fans. It’ll be great to bring them all together.” “I was looking forward to a full throttle assault with just Mudvayne this summer, but when Chad said ‘Let’s do more,’ I was all-in.” declares Zakk Wylde, the iconic and self professed General Patton of Black Label Society. Adding, “On behalf of JD, Craig, Nick, the Doom Crew Inc. and myself, we can’t wait to see our Black Label family and the entire Black Label nation once again, rollin’ through hell and destroying everything in our path! Fire up the barbecues, fire up the tunes, and get ready for the rest of your Pedal To The Metal family to fire it up and let the engines roll… Game m-f-’n on!” Says Static-X frontman Wayne Static of the tour: “I’m very picky about who we tour with. I think Static-X slaughter most bands live, and I pride myself in our show – I refuse to open for a band that I don’t think is worthy, so that says a lot about Mudvayne, Zakk Wylde, and this entire package.” THE PEDAL TO THE METAL TOUR is being booked exclusively by TKO [The Kirby Organization], the agents for Mudvayne, and is being promoted nationally by Frank Productions and Knitting Factory Presents. The package will travel more than 12,000 miles of highway across America this summer, stopping in nearly three dozen cities over seven weeks.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
MUDVAYNE Mudvayne are one of the most creative and distinctive bands in the aggressive music world, and one of the only acts in heavy music to hold the distinction of seeing every one of their five studio albums attain at least gold certification by the RIAA. Not bad for a band that never cared about following trends or playing to the masses. Latest release The New Game was released in November ’08, and is a lesson in controlled chaos that tempers hard rock, heavy metal, prog rock and sadistic splatters of pop into an onslaught of metallic highs and emotional lows. Mudvayne have sold more than five million units worldwide, and performed for more than one million fans on every continent. They were nominated for “Best Metal Performance” at the 2005 Grammys, and also shared headlining status on that year’s Ozzfest, performing immediately before Iron Maiden. The Pedal To The Metal Tour marks the next step in Mudvayne’s live evolution.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY In the two decades since Ozzy Osbourne hired him away from his job at a New Jersey gas station to become his new guitarist, Zakk Wylde has established himself as a guitar icon known and revered the world over. He spawned his now legendary Black Label Society in 1994, and in the fifteen years since has turned the outfit into a heavy metal institution true to his vision of uncompromising, unfiltered and unrestrained rock and roll. Inspired by guitarists including Frank Marino, Robin Trower and Al DiMeola, as well as the vocal stylings of Elton John, Gregg Allman and late Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Ronnie VanZant, Wylde has won every guitar award imaginable and is a major influence to the new wave of heavy metal guitarists. Wherever Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society travels, one thing is for certain: brewtality is sure to follow.
STATIC-X Since the release of their Wisconsin Death Trip debut a decade ago, Static-X have sold more than three million records worldwide. Their latest opus, Cult of Static, was released in March and debuted in the Billboard Top 20, marking their most impressive first-week showing since 2001. Known for their high intensity fusion of metal mayhem and industrial fervor, Static-X have one of the most allegiant fan bases in heavy music. “I jokingly call it a cult, but our fans have that kind of loyalty,” says frontman Wayne Static. “We’re one of the biggest underground bands ever.”
SUICIDE SILENCE The winners of the Best New Talent award at the Revolver Golden God Awards in April, Suicide Silence have emerged at the forefront of the new wave of American heavy metal, and have sold more than 70,000 copies of their 2008 debut, The Cleansing. Hailed as one of the “100 bands you need to know about” by Alternative Press, their sophomore release No Time To Bleed will hit stores June 29, just in time for Pedal To The Metal 2009. DOPE Dope aren’t the heaviest band on this summer’s Pedal To The Metal tour, but they can stake a claim at being the most brutal: Their track “Die Mother Fucker Die” was on a short list of songs used by the United States government to aid in the interrogation of enemy combatants in the war against Iraq. They’ve sold more than one million albums in their decade-plus career, their latest release being last year’s No Regrets. BURY YOUR DEAD Written and recorded in the wake of an accident last September that flipped and rolled the Bury Your Dead tour van, there was no shortage of inspiration for the bone-crunching and chest-pounding canons that mark new release It’s Nothing Personal. Armed with grinding music, spitfire lyrics and melodic interludes, the album packs everything fans have come to expect from the New England metal-core veterans – and, as always, a little bit more…
HELLZAPOPPIN Hellzapoppin bill themselves as “The Greatest Show In Hell,” delivering a burlesque and macabre flavored take on Barnum’s more family-friendly sideshow attractions. Featuring a penguin boy, fire eating, sword swallowing and a self-professed torture king amongst their off-center oddities, the Hellzapoppin sideshow review promises to keep fans eerily entertained and darkly amused between sets on the Pedal To The Metal Tour 2009.
TKO (The Kirby Organization) With offices in Los Angeles, New York and London, and a roster of more than 150 artists – including Mudvayne, Buckcherry, The Cult, Motorhead, Hellyeah, Hank III, Papa Roach, Drowning Pool and Anthrax – TKO is one of the entertainment industry’s premier music booking agencies.
1 Enter to Win A Copy of Black Label Society’s Skullage!
0 Black Label Society – Skullage (Release Year – 2009)
Black Label Society has released their new greatest hits package, Skullage. This CD/DVD set is a killer combination of Black Label Society’s best songs, as well as an awesome DVD that collects footage from their Boozed, Broozed and Broken-Boned DVD from 2003, as well as some of Black Label Society’s music videos and acoustic live footage.
Is this collection worth picking up? If you want the acoustic versions of songs like “The Blessed Hellride” and “Stillborn” you need to grab this. The music videos on the DVD are worth the price of admission all by themselves in my opinion. I would have liked to have all of their videos (yes, there are some that are missing) but I am happy to finally have a copy of these on DVD. I must point out though, that there is a video in this collection “New Religion” that I have not see before, and that was a nice bonus.
The Welcome To the Compound is a new segment filmed inside Zakk Wylde’s home. This part of the DVD shows off Wylde’s off the wall sense of humor. Zakk gives you an explanation on what the lyrics are about on several of the songs on Skullage. There is a brief part where Wylde talks about the song “In This River” written about Dimebag Darrell Abbott. In this clip there is some old footage with Dimebag. It was unexpected and yet very cool.
If you have all of Black Label Society’s CD’s (as I do), and you don’t need a greatest hits CD, Black Label Society has given you have the option to purchase the DVD separately. Skullage is available as a CD, DVD or a CD/DVD set.
If you have never picked up any of Black Label Society’s music before, Skullage is an awesome way to acquainted with one of the better metal bands of the last decade. Overall, this is a pretty good collection of music and video, and is definitely worth purchasing!

0 Black Succubi – S/T (Release Year – 2008)
Succubi’s are defined as demons who take the form of beautiful women, in order to seduce men. If the band Black Succubi are demons, they have taken form as metal heads who will tear your world apart with heavy guitar riffs, powerful vocals and hard crashing rhythms.
When I first read about this Scandinavian metal act, I knew they could be something special, but I had no idea they would be this good.
Not only is Black Succubi’s new disc a great new metal album, it will compete with Testament’s The Formation of Damnation for best of 2008. On this CD, I hear heavy riffs that remind me of Pantera, Halford and Black Label Society. I love all of those bands so I found this album very much to my liking.
Jan Lundstrom is one of the best new metal singers that I have heard in a long time. When you hear the combined guitar might of Thomas Pedersen, and Michael Larsen, you will think you have died and gone to metal heaven. Black Succubi has some great guest appearances on this record as well. Mercyful Fate’s Hank Shermann adds a guitar solo on the tune “Cry For Your Brother”, and Iron Fire’s Kirk Bacharach on the song “Psychotic Meltdown”.
Bottom line, this album is heavy as hell, and absolutely killer. No metal fan should be without this!
Go to the Black Succubi myspace page to preview some of the music on this album. For more information on the band, check out their website at this link. You can buy this album from iTunes and Prefueled. Go get it! You will be glad you did!

2 Black Label Society – Shot to Hell (Release Year – 2006)
How does Zakk Wylde do it? Each year he chugs out another quality CD.
Shot to Hell is no exception in the quality dept.
This CD sounds like it could be Mafia part 2 in many cases, with the exception that it has more slower tracks than its predecessor. Aside from that, Zakk’s vocals and guitar style is virtually unchanged, and that is a good thing. I guess if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. The BLS formula seems to work.
Several quality tracks and a only a 2 or 3 that I would consider fillers. If you liked Mafia, chances are you will enjoy Shot to Hell as well. Fans needing a heavy yet melodic hard rock CD should give this one a look. For Black Label Society fans, its a no brainer, pick this up!
