0 Candlelight Red – The Wreckage (2011)

Modern rock fans have a new reason to rejoice and that reason is The Wreckage, the debut album from Candlelight Red. This Pennsylvania quartet has been making their presence known on the hard rock scene, playing several festivals, and opening a number of hot tours in 2012. The Wreckage shows just why Candlelight Red is receiving much attention in the modern rock world. Put simply, Candlelight Red is a hard rock band that makes great music.

Filled with heavy and hard tunes, The Wreckage is a fun-filled album of rock music that satisfies. Any of us that love Three Days Grace, New Medicine, or other similar modern rock darlings are going to enjoy listening to The Wreckage. Candlelight Red have released an album of eight original goodies and one interesting cover song that is getting some airplay as of late.

The band’s original songs are real treasures to the ear. They are not overproduced, and they are not weak, which is usually a winning combination to making great music. And while The Wreckage does not contain any Earth shattering, ground breaking, innovative Pink Floyd-esque tracks, that hardly matters. What The Wreckage does contain is 8 original songs that are immensely enjoyable. And in the end, isn’t that what matters most?

The last track on the record is a cover of “The Look,” a big pop hit for the band Roxette in the late 80s. As a huge fan of the original song, I was curious to see what Candlelight Red would do with this cover. And while I commend them for choosing a more pop-oriented song to cover, I have to admit that I much prefer the band’s original material. I miss the falsetto of Marie Fredriksson, which I always felt made the song such a hit.

That’s not to say that “She’s Got The Look” is unbearable, because it is actually enjoyable from a nostalgic sense. However, it is not something that would have me buying The Wreckage. However, original songs like “The Dirt,” and “Medicated,” would. Perhaps it’s a chance for fans to sing along with the band at concerts while they get their name out there, but I would have much preferred one more original song on The Wreckage.

Cover song aside, Candlelight Red have released a solid album complete with creative, entertaining songs. If you’re looking for some hard rocking new music that will get multiple spins on your IPod, definitely check out Candlelight Red’s The Wreckage.

It seems like Candlelight Red are refusing to take a rest from their breakneck 2012 schedule. In addition to recently issuing their debut full-length disc, The Wreckage (and single, “She’s Got the Look“), the band has secured a spot on the 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival, which they will start a month after wrapping up tours with Lacuna Coil and Crossfade. The group will be rocking on one of two Festival Stages, which will also see sets from Shinedown, Godsmack, Staind, Papa Roach, Adelitas Way, POD, and many more.

Live Nation is the national tour promoter for the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival, and the tour will play more than 30 shows throughout North America during August and September. “We’re really excited about this year’s awesome lineup,” say tour producers John Oakes and John Reese. “It’s incredible to have so many of the biggest bands in rock together with some newer bands that are blowing up. By adding a second stage to the festival area and including even more great talent, we’re stepping things up a notch for the UPROAR fans.”

“Being on UPROAR is a huge honor,” says Candlelight guitarist Jeremy Edge. “To be playing on a tour with some of the biggest bands in rock today is very humbling!” Drummer Brian Dugan added, “This is a tremendous opportunity, a sign of many good things to come for Candlelight Red.”

Look for tour dates, venues and ticket on-sale information to be announced in the coming weeks. 0 CANDLELIGHT RED CONFIRMED FOR A STRING OF DATES WITH SEVENDUST AS DEBUT SINGLE “CLOSER” CONTINUES TO CLIMB RADIO CHARTS

With Candlelight Red’s debut recording for the Imagen label, ‘The Wreckage,’ recently released digitally (September 27th), it has just been confirmed that the group will be supporting metal veterans Sevendust on a string of dates from November 22nd through December 10th. Additionally, Candlelight Red will be headlining their own show on October 29th, before playing a one-off show with Puddle of Mudd on November 16th and as part of 2 Broke To Rock with Texas Hippie Coalition on November 19th.

I would call Candlelight Red’s music heavy, melodic and emotion-driven rock,” guitarist Jeremy Edge recently told the America Online Noisecreep website.  “There are a lot of big hooks, but we’re always aggressive.” Joining Edge in the band is vocalist Ryan Hoke, bassist Jamie Morral, and drummer Josh Hetrick.

The Williamsport, PA-based group has had plenty of road experience this year promoting ‘The Wreckage,’ sharing the concert stage with established and well-known hard rock acts, as Candlelight Red has opened for KISS, 10 Years, Saving Abel, Egypt Central, and Rev Theory.

The quartet has had the good fortune to work with Grammy-nominated producer David Ivory (whose credits include Halestorm and the Roots, among others) on ‘The Wreckage,’ which has resulted in the album’s debut single, “Closer,” flirting with the top 40 active rock radio. Candlelight Red has also received airplay on Octane, Music Choice, and Hard Drive.

And strong reviews have only added to the group’s progress, including the Centredaily site, which raved “If you enjoy your rock ’n’ roll hard, heavy and hummable but aren’t a big fan of Monster Energy drinks or jean shorts, you’ll appreciate Candlelight Red’s welcome twists to the somewhat erroneously named ‘alternative metal’ genre.” Also, the Heyreverb site paid Candlelight Red a compliment about their live show in a review of a recent show they played alongside 10 Years and Novus Folium – “10 Years was paired with bands that matched their sound and style. They weren’t too heavy, too trendy or too pop-punk – every act on the bill was a polished rock band and the progression of music was on point.

And soon, rock fans will be able to experience what the buzz is all about on a concert stage near you, when Candlelight Red hits the road with Sevendust!

Check out the band’s video “Closer” below!
