2 Drowning Pool Parts Ways With Ryan McCombs

All-American anthemic rockers Drowning Pool announced today that they will be parting ways with their current singer, Ryan McCombs. The hard working Texas band, who has worked with 3 singers in their 10 year career, issued the following statement:

“We have always been a band who has gained success despite having multiple singers…maybe we suffer from reverse ‘lead singer’s disease,” said C.J. Pierce. “Changing things up has not always been easy, but the band has become re-energized time and time again.  We are looking to find a new singer who will give both us and, and most importantly our fans, the new adrenaline shot they deserve.” He went on to say, “We do wish Ryan great success in his future endeavors.” McCombs, who had been part of the band since 2006, replaced singer Jason Jones, who joined Drowning Pool following the tragic passing of Dave Williams.

Drowning Pool turned the world into believers with their breakthrough single “Bodies” in 2001. Ten years, three singers and four albums later, they’re giving fans a new reason to believe.  “Feel Like I Do,” the lead single from their self-titled fourth studio release [Eleven Seven Music], became the band’s biggest radio hit to date, reaching No. 2 at Active Rock Radio, and remaining in the Top 5 for 12-weeks.  With 2009’s “37 Stitches” off of Full Circle reaching #4 at Active Rock and “Feel Like I Do,” the band had 2 consecutive Top 5 Active Rock smashes and cemented their place as one of the top hard rock acts today. The band’s sophomore album, Desensitized with second singer Jason Jones spawned a Top 10 hit with “Step Up.” Recent successes have paved the way for unique opportunities such as presenting the Lane Evans Mental Health Care Reform to then-senator Barack Obama on Capitol Hill, performing for our troops all over the world and partnering with organizations like The Wounded Warrior Project and the G.I. Film Festival.

Drowning Pool is currently looking to find a suitable replacement for McCombs.  In the meantime, they have already begun writing their 5th studio album in their hometown of Dallas.

Drowning Pool is C.J. Pierce – guitar/ vocals, Stevie Benton – bass/vocals, and Mike Luce – drums/vocals.

0 KYNG CONFIRMS TOUR DATES WITH DROWNING POOL AS FIRST SINGLE, “FALLING DOWN,” CONTINUES TO BUILD A BIG PRESENCE AT RADIO

  • August 8, 2011

  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

The story is building for the Southern California trio KYNG–singer/songwriter/guitarist Eddie Veliz, bassist Tony Castaneda and drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña—whose debut album, TRAMPLED SUN, is due out September 27 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).

KYNG recruited Cam De Leon, the acclaimed artist who’s best known for his work with Tool, to create the cover and booklet artwork for TRAMPLED SUN.
The album’s first two singles, “Falling Down” and “Trails in Veins,” were mixed by Mike Watts (Adelita’s Way, Hopesfall, Quicksand, Brand New).
“Falling Down” is in heavy rotation on SiriusXM’s “Octane” channel, while “Trails In Veins” can be heard on the “Liquid Metal” channel, thanks to the support of Program Director Jose Mangin, who has championed KYNG since hearing early demos a couple of years ago, some of which were played on “Octane” before TRAMPLED SUN was even in the works.  SiriusXM was instrumental in bringing the band to what became their record label (REALID/ILG) and managers (In De Goot, who also represents Shinedown, Chevelle and others).
Fans who’d like to hear another new song before the release date should head over to Revolver magazine’s website, which premiered the album’s title track today.  It can be heard here: http://www.revolvermag.com/news/exclusive-kyng-premiere-trampled-sun.html.
KYNG’s self-proclaimed “California Heavy” sound is a unique and universally appealing combination of heavy and captivating concepts, channeling influences from Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin to Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age.
Reminiscent at times of the metal and hard rock of the late 1970s in style and musical collection, with a presentation that is totally heavy, classic and modern-day all at once, they are sure to refresh the Active Rock and Metal landscapes of today and tomorrow.  As drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña puts it, “I think we’re doing stuff, or a combination of stuff, that has been done before, in a way that has never been done before.”
Before KYNG was a glimmer in the trio’s eyes, bassist Tony Castaneda and drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña were members of the Latino metal band Ankla, which toured across the U.S. with bands such as Ill Nino, Nonpoint, In This Moment, and Hatebreed.  They were also a part of Ozzfest in 2007.
Now that the band has completed dates with The Sword, Black Stone and Cherry and Pop Evil, they’ll be launching a brief jaunt with Drowning Pool before re-teaming with Pop Evil in September, with appearances at WJJO-FM’s Taste of Madison and KPNT-FM’s Pointfest in St. Louis happening along the way.  Next up:  shows with Wayne Static this Fall which are currently being confirmed.  Check out KYNG at any of the following stops:

Drowning Pool is back with their fourth CD in 2010, and the second with vocalist Ryan McCombs. Personally, I have always been on the fence with Drowning Pool. I have liked a lot of their music, but  I have always wondered if they could top their 2001 debut Sinner. Their electric appearance at Cruefest 2 won me over, and I have been looking forward to this CD as a result of that show.

The band has definitely had their share of tragedies, but with this new CD, I thought for sure that Ryan McCombs would be the spark that would help Drowning Pool continue to grow with their music.  Ryan McCombs actually sounds pretty good, and there are some catchy songs, but Drowning Pool’s latest opus is not without its problems.  The grungy guitar sound has always been a staple of Drowning Pool’s music, and for this listener, it no longer works.  Why?  The guitar parts practically sound the same on every song. The song writing is pretty good, but the muddy guitar sound turns good songs into average ones at best.

Some of the highlights include the songs  “Let The Sin Begin”, “Alcohol Blind”, the kick ass stadium anthem “Horns Up”.  I can’t figure out why “Let The Sin Begin” wasn’t released as the first single, it is clearly better than “Feel Like I Do”(See Video Below). This song is an infectious rocker, and has a lot more hit potential, in my opinion.  “Horns Up” might be Drowning Pool’s biggest rocker since “Bodies”.

Sadly, I felt like the middle of the album had too many songs that felt like regurgitated radio rock. There just wasn’t much to distinguish the songs as Drowning Pool.  I was hoping for more growth from the band, and it just isn’t here.  With that being said, the new album isn’t bad.  I didn’t like this one as much as  Full Circle, but there are some good songs to be found here. Chances are, if you liked the last couple of albums from Drowning Pool, you will like this one too.

0 SEVENDUST: ‘Cold Day Memory’ out April 20; “Unraveling” exploding at radio; U.S. headlining tour underway

    SEVENDUST RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM, ‘COLD DAY MEMORY,’ APRIL 20 ON 7BROS. RECORDS/ILG;
    “UNRAVELING” EXPLODING ON ACTIVE/ROCK RADIO;
HEADLINING TOUR WITH DROWNING POOL UNDERWAY WITH MORE DATES AND ROCK ON THE RANGE ON THE WAY

SEVENDUST–Lajon Witherspoon (vocals), Morgan Rose (drums/vocals), Clint Lowery (guitar/vocals), Vince Hornsby (bass/vocals), John Connolly (guitar/vocals)–are set to release their eight studio album, COLD DAY MEMORY, April 20 on their own 7Bros. Records, through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group.  COLD DAY MEMORY—produced by Grammy® Award winner Johnny K (Disturbed, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Plain White T’s)—is the band’s first new album with their original line-up back together with Lowery’s return after his departure in 2003.
The album’s first single, “Unraveling,” is already getting a great reaction at Rock Radio and is currently #20 on the Active Rock charts (it’s jumping to #18 next week).  With back-to-back double-digit add weeks at Active Rock before its actual add date, this is the most well-received Sevendust track in the last decade.  The song is currently available on iTunes and is available to stream on their Myspace page.  A video is currently in the works.
COLD DAY MEMORY capitalizes on all of Sevendust’s chemistry and potential.  While the band’s last few efforts were mainly heavy and rhythmic, the new songs balance brutality with textural passages and infectious counter-melodies.  There are even fleet-fingered guitar solos.  But whether confronting the listener with double-bass drums and staccato power chords or using melodic arpeggios and soft brush strokes to sweeten the sound of Witherspoon’s multi-faceted vocals, Sevendust sound excited, energized and ready to take on the world.
All five band members contributed to the lyrics on COLD DAY MEMORY, and the songs were works in progress up until the moment they were recorded.  In the end, the band crafted songs that encapsulated their experiences with the world and one another.  Witherspoon, who recently became a father, penned some lines about commitment and responsibility, while Rose, who was going through a painful divorce, wrote lyrics about heartbreak and disillusionment.  The album’s first single, “Unraveling,” was co-written by Lowery and Dave Bassett (Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd) and is about the collapse of a relationship, while “Confession” indirectly addresses Lowery quitting and returning to the band.
“Since we all write, it’s hard to tell exactly what each song is about, but we like to leave it up to the listeners to decide for themselves,” Rose says. “It’s funny because in the end you almost don’t know what you wrote. I remember telling John one time, ‘Dude, that was an amazing line you wrote,’ and he went, ‘What are you talking about? You wrote that.’  We wanted to change the template completely from what we did with our last album, HOPE AND SORROW.  We were going, ‘Let’s bring back those other elements Clint brought in that made us what we were.’  So we sort of made a silent agreement that we were going to let Clint run wild.  We said we’ll jump in when it’s time, but if you’ve got an idea let’s go with it.”
There’s something almost intangible about a band with strong chemistry.  When the guitarists vibe off each other just right, the bassist is lock in step with the drummer, the music almost transcends the musicians.  And when the vocalist is feeding off the power of the other players, almost anything is possible.  It’s something Sevendust learned early in their career when guitarist Clint Lowery joined forces with the eclectic Atlanta group.
“I knew once I got him in there that he could definitely change the band fully,” says drummer Morgan Rose. “His background vocals and his writing style and guitar playing were the final ingredients for us to become the band that we needed to be.”
With Lowery as a major contributor, Sevendust released four albums that stretched the limits of hard rock and metal, combining elements of thrash, classic metal, southern rock and soul into songs that were both sinfully tuneful and ruthlessly aggressive.  Then in 2003, after the release of SEASONS, the guitarist quit to focus on his other band Dark New Day.  Sevendust continued for three more albums, and enjoyed considerable success, but something was clearly missing.  So, when the band reunited with Lowery in early 2008, it was like the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle was finally reinserted and the picture was again complete.
“This record personally has been one of the most difficult, but most rewarding records I’ve ever worked on,” explains Lowery. “I put a lot of pressure on myself to contribute good material to the guys after being gone for last three records and that helped me focus more than I ever had.”  Adds Lajon Witherspoon:  “I feel this album shows new growth for the band.  We’re very happy to have Clint back and are looking forward for everyone hearing the magic that’s made when we’re all together!”

To kick off the press conference, MÖTLEY CRÜE stopped lunch-hour traffic in New York City arriving at Fuse in a “Dr. Feelgood”-era ambulance accompanied by scantily clad nurses. As previously announced, the band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first #1 album by playing “Dr. Feelgood” from beginning to end every night of Crüe Fest 2. In addition, fans can expect MÖTLEY CRÜE to bring out hits from their entire catalog through their latest hit, “Saints of Los Angeles”.

Once a week, brand new content from the tour will debut on Imeem, including playlist, video, and audio content, and will be cross promoted across Imeem and band-branded assets.

HRH Comment: Only one change from the previously leaked lineup.  Charm City Devils takes the place of Saving Abel.  While I like the fact that I haven’t seen 3 of the bands in this lineup, I am not so sure that this a better group than last year.

Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Serj Tankian, Hellyeah, Sevendust and Shadows Fall, among others, are scheduled to appear at this year’s one-off Ozzfest, to be held Aug. 9 at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas.

Other main stage acts on the bill are Cavalera Conspiracy, Apocalyptica, In This Moment and an all-star tribute to late Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. Second stage acts are Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis will handle duties on the third stage.

“We’re going to be a stadium destination festival for now — we have gone past doing the sheds every summer,” says Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, who is producing Ozzfest with AEG Live. “We’ve given everyone else the blueprint and we have to keep evolving Ozzfest. This is just the beginning; AEG Live and I have a lot of new ideas for Ozzfest.”

Ozzfest will be Osbourne’s only concert performance this summer. Tickets for the one-day festival will go on sale May 31 via Ozzfest.com; prices have not yet been announced.

Last year, the Osbournes created a stir when they revealed the Live Nation-produced Ozzfest would be a sponsor-driven, free event, and acts would be asked to play without being paid. The 25-date amphitheater tour featured such artists as Lamb Of God, Hatebreed and Lordi, among others

MÖTLEY CRÜE is rumored to be teaming up with several other acts from the Tenth Street Entertainment management stable — BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH and DROWNING POOL — for a U.S. tour that will kick off in early July. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the trek will go out under the moniker Cruefest — which is not to be confused with the association that organizes concerts at various locations around the world throughout the year to raise money for the various CRÜE-affiliated charities (including Skylar Neil Memorial Fund, Nikki Sixx‘s Running Wild in the Night foundation, Tommy Lee‘s charity of choice St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Mick Mars‘ charity Spondylitis Association of America).

CRÜE will officially announce its touring plans on April 15th in Los Angeles, according to a press release. All four members of the group will be present at a location yet to be determined for what the release hyped as “by far…one of the biggest music announcements of the year!!” The band is also launching a contest in which one grand prize winner from each major city in the country will be flown to Los Angeles to cover the announcement, complete with a chance to interview the band and have the interview broadcast live. Details can be found at the official CRÜE site.

The band is currently working on its ninth studio album and first featuring all four original members since 1997’s “Generation Swine”. Bassist Nikki Sixx said in an online posting, “Tommy‘s (Lee, drums) kickin’ ass, Vince (Neil, vocals) sounds insane and (Mick) Mars is shredding on guitars. It doesn’t feel like one song is better or worse than any other. It feels so good to be excited about something you’ve worked on so hard…I’m so excited for you all to hear it.”

The album, titled “The Dirt” after the group’s memoir of the same name, is tentatively due out on July 8.
