When Ronnie Montrose passed away on March 3, 2012, friends and musicians immediately wondered what they could do to pay homage to one of rock’s all-time legendary – and influential – guitarists. The result was some of music’s most renowned artists uniting for a concert only a month and a half later (April 27) and performing Ronnie classics throughout the evening – which will now make its official DVD release on December 10, 2013, ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music.’

Recorded in San Francisco at the historic Regency Ballroom and mixed in 5.1 surround sound, the DVD features performance by Ronnie’s past band members in Montrose (Sammy Hagar, Denny Carmassi, Bill Church with Joe Satriani), Gamma (Davey Pattison, Denny Carmassi and Glenn Letsch with Marc Bonilla), performing both groups’ hits.

Additionally, Ronnie’s colleagues and people he mentored and produced over the 40 years of his career are featured as well, including Neal Schon (Journey), Ricky Phillips (Styx), Steve Smith (ex-Journey), Ed Roth, Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks), Jeff Watson (ex-Night Ranger), Tesla, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer (Kiss), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), and more.

The DVD will also include interviews, bonus features, a photo gallery, and an additional set of Ronnie’s hits by an all-star band featuring  Chuck Terpo, Mario Cipollina, Tal Morris, Dave Meniketti and the members of Y&T. This was recorded and filmed at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios.

A trailer can be viewed below.

The iconic and legendary Ronnie Montrose has been called the Father Of American Hard Rock – an innovator and an incendiary guitar genius. In his short time with Van Morrison Ronnie created the iconic guitar riff for the classic song “Wild Nights”.  In the Edgar Winter group he left even a bigger Mark with his catchy heavy-handed riffs on songs like “Free Ride” and “Frankenstein”. But it would be his self-titled release, MONTROSE that would become the cornerstone of American hard rock.   This debut in 1973 crafted such classics as “Rock the Nation”, “Bad Motor Scooter,” and “Space Station #5.”  It laid the ground work and became the template for bands like Van Halen and countless subsequent musicians. His musical Journey lead him to the creation of  GAMMA where he crafted songs like “Voyager”, “Thunder And Lighting” and “Ready For Action”.  Ronnie was always searching and reinventing himself musically.  Venturing through a  brief instrumental period he brought us both “Open Fire” and his masterpiece version of “Town Without Pity”.

And now, fans will be able to experience the music of Ronnie once again, with the new DVD, ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music.’

EAGLE ROCK ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS

THE ROLLING STONES CAUGHT LIVE AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME

SOME GIRLS LIVE IN TEXAS 1978

LIVE CONCERT OUT ON DVD AND BLU-RAY NOVEMBER 21

Continuing their partnership with the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world, Eagle Rock Entertainment have announced the DVD and Blu-Ray release of The Rolling Stones Some Girls Live in Texas 1978. Available for the first time ever on November 21, Some Girls Live in Texas 1978 features Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman live in concert during the 1978 US tour which followed the release of their groundbreaking album Some Girls.[Pre-book order date October 28, MSRP $14.98 for DVD, $19.98 for Blu-ray, and TBA for DVD/CD and Blu-ray/CD].

Some Girls Live in Texas 1978 comes hot on the heels of the huge success of 2010’s Stones in Exile and Ladies & Gentlemen and marks the next stage in the Eagle Vision / Rolling Stones enterprise. Some Girls Live in Texas 1978 will be available on four different formats: DVD, Blu-Ray, plus special edition DVD + CD and Blu-Ray + CD digipack presentations including a reproduction tour program. Bonus features on all formats will include a new interview with Mick Jagger. Worldwide theatrical distribution deals including the US (in October 2011) will be announced soon.
Capturing The Rolling Stones at their live best, and fully restored to the highest level of picture and sound quality, Some Girls Live in Texas 1978 was filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Forth Worth, Texas on July 18, 1978 on what many fans consider to be one of the band’s greatest tours. This was due to the band’s ‘back to basics’ approach both musically and visually, as the shows were stripped back compared to previous tours, harnessing the new punk rock attitude of the late 70s.
Showcasing many songs from the Some Girls album, celebrated for being the Rolling Stones’ most direct and diverse collection of music, and which by the time the band arrived in Texas, had gone to the top of the US charts, this concert demonstrates the sheer force and raw energy of The Rolling Stones live on stage.
Some Girls songs like “Miss You,” “Respectable,” “Beast Of Burden,” “When The Whip Comes Down,” and “Shattered,” weave into a set list which also includes “All Down The Line,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Tumbling Dice,”  “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Happy,” and “Brown Sugar.”
Originally shot on 16mm film, the concert footage has been carefully restored with the sound remixed and remastered by Bob Clearmountain from the original multi track tapes.
“Eagle is delighted to once again be working with the Rolling Stones on another landmark release highlighting an outstanding performance from the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll band.”
– Lindsay Brown, Managing Director Operations & International, Eagle Rock Entertainment Ltd

1 EDDIETRUNK.COM TO PREMIERE EXCLUSIVE VIDEO OF UFO’S ROCKPALAST PERFORMANCE FROM 1980

  • September 29, 2010
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

UFO AND MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP ROCKPALAST DVD AND CD IN STORES OCTOBER 25, 2010

Starting today, EddieTrunk.com will be exclusively premiering a clip from UFO’s classic Rockpalast performance which took place November 29, 1980 at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany. The clip being premiered is a classic rendition of the UFO favorite “Doctor, Doctor”. This performance is finally being released from the Rockpalast archives and will be in stores on October 25th from MIG Music. Make sure to head over to http://www.eddietrunk.com and check out the clip today.

From the first notes of “Lettin’ Go” you can hear an experienced band celebrating a compact, homogenic, and straight forward performance. During this show they tore through their hits including: “Lights Out”, “Too Hot to Handle”, “Only You Can Rock Me”, “Cherry” as well as a magnificent cover of Elvis Presely’s “Mystery Train”. Ending the night with a breathtaking encore which included “Rock Bottom” and “Doctor Doctor”, this concert remains a stunning document of the power and perfection of one of the greatest hard rock bands that have ever existed

There are more stories about UFO than actual songs that they have composed. Any band who has been in the music business for 40 plus years are bound to have experienced difficult times, but also dazzling success. UFO’s story began in London way back in 1969, when vocalist Phil Mogg, drummer Andy Parker, guitarist Mick Bolton and bassist Pete Way formed the group, borrowing the band name from a legendary London music club. The band distinguished themselves with their very own, unmistakable style, touching a nerve among their growing following with rock numbers like ‘Prince Kajuku’, ‘Follow You Home’ or ‘C’mon Everybody’ from their albums “UFO 1”, “Flying” and “UFO Live”.

UFO’s global breakthrough came when German guitarist, Michael Schenker, joined the fold in 1973, having left his band the Scorpions to accept an offer from Phil Mogg and Pete Way. UFO released three consecutive rock classics with Schenker (“Phenomenon” (1974), “Force It” (1975) and “No Heavy Pettin'” (1976)), featuring classics such as: ‘Doctor Doctor’, ‘Shoot, Shoot’, and ‘Rock Bottom’. Following the arrival of keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Paul Raymond, UFO released the albums “Lights Out” (1977) and “Obsession” (1978), which included the hit singles ‘Too Hot To Handle’, ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Only You Can Rock Me’. Their live release “Strangers In The Night” came out in 1979 and is still considered to be one of the best live releases of all time, unfortunately, this also brought about the end of the Mogg, Way, Schenker, Parker & Raymond line-up.

Eddie Trunk continues his crusade to keep radio fresh and exciting and play the music he loves. He is currently heard on two national radio shows and seen on VH1 Classic and MSG Networks. He has also appeared on MTV several times and on Fox News Channel, worked as a freelance music journalist, boxing ring announcer, and MC for various concerts and rock events around the USA. He is the host of America’s biggest rock festival Rocklahoma in Pryor OK every July, hosts the events press conference in LA, and also consults on the lineup.

3 Deluxe Edition of Whitesnake’s Self Titled Album Released in U.S.A. Today!

  • April 20, 2010
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

British born vocalist extraordinaire David Coverdale paid his dues early on with superstar band Deep Purple before setting a new musical course with the group he formed & has led thro several incarnations since the late 70s. Though the band had released several platinum selling albums prior to this, the 1987 self-titled Whitesnake, none matched their new musically muscular approach, or the impact that this hit-driven, melodic-yet-heavy-rocking release attained.

Initially the album was given significant attention with the release of the video Still Of The Night, which was the longest promo video MTV ever played on heavy rotation at that time, & introduced the band to millions of unsuspecting viewers who until then had never heard of the British import.

The song, though never released as a single, was a smash at rock radio. Sales then went through the roof with the release of the energetic No. 1 single Here I Go Again followed by soulful ballad Is This Love, which reached No. 2, & fans of Whitesnake both old and especially new embraced the album with open arms as it went on to become a multi-million selling success in the U.S. alone.

The synchronicity of an album loaded with some great classic rock anthems that are as vital today as they were when the were first released, & arriving during an era fuelled by music videos & the monster promotional vehicle that MTV was at that time, proved an irresistible force that could not be ignored.

This DELUXE EDITION offers powerful video footage on Disc Two from various live performances appearing along with those memorable, magical promotional videos mentioned above.

Joining the original album, which has been freshly digitally remastered, are four live stage performances of the memorable songs from this album, which were all Billboard chart hits.

This is a must for any discerning rock fan to have in his, or her collection.

CHICKENFOOT heightens the worldwide buzz from the rock supergroup’s incendiary arrival last year with the Blu-ray and DVD release of CHICKENFOOT: GET YOUR BUZZ ON “LIVE” — one of the most highly anticipated live rock ’n’ roll concert experiences of 2010. The Blu-ray and DVD, including an hysterically innovative bonus documentary, will be released Tuesday, May 4 by DC3 Music Group, LLC, following a series of virtual concert screenings at select theaters nationwide and a live concert webcast from Cabo San Lucas, set for April 24 (10 p.m. CST) at BestBuy.com.

Filmed with 16 hi-definition cameras over three sold out concerts, CHICKENFOOT: GET YOUR BUZZ ON “LIVE” offers fans an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience four rock ’n’ roll legends — vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen, Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani – sharing their explosive musicianship and dynamic chemistry on-stage and off.

As fun as they are on stage, CHICKENFOOT is just plain funny offstage. That’s the uniqueness of the offbeat bonus documentary, jam-packed with exclusive, never-before-seen backstage footage, rare interviews and extra performance video. The band members unconventionally take control of the interviews by instead conducting — or misconducting — them in their own individual styles. Their prank victims are show biz pals Bob Weir, Adam Carolla and Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tufnel, as well as the unsuspecting public, who get ambushed throughout the documentary man-in-the-street-style by Smith, asking whether they’ve ever heard of the band CHICKENFOOT and can recognize their faces in a publicity photo. You’ll be tickled at most of the answers, knowing the band’s debut album went No. 4 in Billboard and gold all over the world.

Hagar drops in on Weir at home by Hagar, and uncovers the last time the former Grateful Dead lead singer dropped acid and what gets his buzz on these days. Anthony shares backstage couch time, CHICKENFOOT merchandise and chicken wings with Carolla. And Satriani buzzes around venues on both sides of the Atlantic with “Joe-Cam” firmly mounted to his head before allowing Nigel Tufnel (alias Christopher Guest) some not-so-serious interview time.

CHICKENFOOT’s self-titled debut album, released in heat sensitive packaging, has sold over 750,000 copies and has been a Top 10 radio mainstay since its release last June. (The fourth single, “My Kinda Girl,” is at classic and mainstream rock radio now). The band embarked on a small North American club tour, performed in Europe in the summer and returned to North America to perform two sold out summer tours, followed by another in the fall.

The electrifying, hi-energy concert performances were filmed in hi-definition last summer by award-winning director Daniel E. Catullo III (Rush, Creed, Godsmack, Smashing Pumpkins) and mixed in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound by Mike Fraser.

The Blu-ray and DVD features one full concert shot at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix on Sept. 23rd, 2009, plus live segments from shows last fall at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, plus a bonus photo gallery.

1 New Saxon DVD Coming Soon!

  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music · Video

A new five-minute trailer for the upcoming documentary on British rock legends SAXON, “Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie”, can be viewed below.

U.K.’s Coolhead Productions is putting the finishing touches on “Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie”. The film, which is expected to be released in December, celebrates the group’s 30th anniversary. Produced by the makers of the critically acclaimed “Ian Gillan: Highway Star” (Universal, 2007), it not only has contributions from members of SAXON, past and present, but also from the likes of Lars Ulrich (METALLICA); Lemmy, “Fast” Eddie Clarke, Phil Campbell, Mikkey Dee (MOTÖRHEAD); Harvey Goldsmith, Danko Jones, Doro Pesch and many, many others. It will also feature plenty of rare archive material and previously unseen concert footage, from the classic 1980s lineup to the brilliant St. George’s Day show in 2008 and Wacken Open Air in 2009. A special limited edition of “Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie” will contain a feature-length documentary, at least two never-before-seen concert films and plenty of revealing extra content.

“It looks good,” singer Biff Byford tells News & Star. “But it has been put back because they have just got a load of new stuff from an interview with an old manager which is quite good. I’m sure I will learn things about me that I did not know…

“I’m looking forward to seeing it,” he says. “I have a right to veto things, but I don’t think I will. I have seen the ANVIL [documentary]; it is funny. I like them, they’re not in my top five bands of all time, but they try hard.”

Once the tour and the DVD launch are out of the way, there’s more work for Biff.

“We’re working on a soundtrack for an American horror film based around snakes, then we start writing a new album in December.”

Meanwhile, he and the family have just moved back to his native Yorkshire after living in Normandy for the past eight years.

“We are renting at the moment, but if you know anyone looking to buy a small chateau in northern France, let me know…” he says.

If you pre-buy a plush special limited edition of “Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie” containing a feature-length documentary, at least TWO never-seen-before concert films and plenty of revealing extra content, you will get your name on the credits and become an associate producer, allowing you to influence the content of the film by sending your suggestions to the filmmakers. You will also have the chance of winning one of five pairs of VIP passes to next year’s Wacken Open Air festival AND the chance to meet SAXON singer Biff Byford and the rest of the band on their next tour.

“We’re relying on our fans here and I know you’ll do us proud,” said Byford. “SAXON have a great story to tell and some bloody fantastic songs to celebrate. I think you’ll agree it needs to be done properly, so get your orders in now. This will be one of the best rock docs you’ll ever see.”

The special limited edition of “Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie” will cost £25 (GBP). It will be shipped out as soon as it’s complete.

3 Tesla – Comin’ Atcha Live! 2008 – DVD Review

  • · DVD Review · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music · Music DVD Reviews

Earlier this year Tesla released a new DVD, “Comin’ Atcha Live! 2008. This is a live concert video taken from the Myth nightclub in Maplewood, MN (near Minneapolis) on February 22, 2008.

If you missed Tesla on tour earlier this year, or even if you haven’t seen them before, and are a fan of the band, you ought to pick this DVD up.

For this concert to be a club show, the video footage, and audio is awesome.  I am not sure how they accomplished some of the shots they did, but I was extremely pleased with the way this was filmed.  This is high quality footage that has to be seen to be believed.

As far as live concert videos go, the band put on an excellent set that featured a ton of Tesla’s hits, as well as their new song “Dear Pvt. Ledbetter” from 2008 CD “Forever More”.

No only is the live footage superb, the behind the scenes footage is pretty cool as well.  I enjoyed getting to see the bands’ arsenal of instruments backstage, as well as some of Frank Hannon’s pedals etc.

I won’t hide the fact that I am a huge Tesla fan, but as far as live concert DVD’s go, this one has to rank close to the top.  No Tesla fan should be without this DVD.

2008 two disc (CD + DVD) release Explicit Version. The legend that is Twisted Sister return with their new live CD/DVD recorded at London’s Astoria Theatre on a very hot summer night in 2004. The critics hailed Twisted Sister’s performance as one of their greatest ever. If you’re an S.M.F. and have wondered what Twisted Sister thought about any of their live shows throughout their 35 year history, you should know this: while certain band members remember certain shows, and relate tales of particular performances as being their favorite, rarely does the band universally agree that any particular show is about as good as it gets. Each band member considered this show to be amongst the most special of their career. This concert was filmed and kept in a vault for the past four years. When the band had the opportunity to look at the footage, it brought back the heat, passion, intensity and audience participation that was a level far above all expectations. We look forward in sharing this magical performance with all of you!

0 New White Lion DVD Gets European Release Date!

  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of WHITE LION “Bang Your Head Festival 2005” DVD on December 5th 2008.

White Lion left its musical mark in the late 80’s with a series of highly acclaimed albums including “Mane Attraction”, “Big Game” and the million seller “Pride” which spawned such hits as “Wait” and “When The Children Cry”. The band was also recognized for its signature album tracks that transcended socio-political themes such as “Lady Of The Valley”, “Cry For Freedom”, “Lights N Thunder” and “Warsong”.

White Lion originally disbanded in 1991 and it wasn’t until 2005 when singer Mike Tramp decided to handpick a handful of musicians (including Jamie Law on guitar, Troy Patrick Farrell on drums, Henning Wanner on keyboards and Claus Langeskov on bass) to carry again the flag of White Lion in a long European tour that culminated in a successful apparition at the “Bang Your Head Festival”. In Tramp’s own words “this concert was the definitive turning point and event that finally convinced me that it was worth going on with the next chapter of White Lion and that rock fans had not forgotten and still appreciated the music of White Lion”.

And indeed this DVD reflects the magic of an unforgettable night with amazing renditions of all the band’s hits and signature songs. A testament of what was and a statement for the future who brought the successful studio return album “Return of the Pride” released in March 2008.

DVD contents include:

Bang Your Head Festival 2005 concert: Lights And Thunder; Hungry; Lonely Nights; Broken Heart; Fight to Survive; Little Fighter; Living on the Edge; Tell Me; Wait; Radar Love.

Full length interview (Mike Tramp)

Slide show (Lady of the Valley)

Lights and Thunder across the USA (Live performance of song from the USA tour)

Easter Eggs: Hungry; It’s Over (Live in the USA)

2 Hanoi Rocks – The Nottingham Tapes DVD (2008)

Before Poison ever unlease Talk Dirty to Me on the world, there was another up and coming glam rock band, Hanoi Rocks, that should have been the next big thing.

The Nottingham Tapes catches Hanoi Rocks in their prime, performing live at the Rock City club in Nottingham, England, back in 1984. The video and audio quality isn’t the greatest, but it is above average. This footage does a good job capturing the live spirit of the band.

It wasn’t too much longer before drummer Razzle, lost his life in the accident with Motley Crue front man Vince Neil. This turn events seemed to make Hanoi Rocks self destruct.

The Nottingham Tapes will make you wonder what would have happened if the band didn’t break up back in the 80’s. The band had all the tools that would bring them success, but split apart before that would happen. This DVD is the best way to catch them in their most popular lineup from ’84.

If you are a fan of Hanoi Rocks, The Nottingham Tapes is must own DVD. It may not be the best footage you have ever seen, but you will be glad to see this part of hard rock history.

1 Jetboy – The Glam Years (Release Year – 2007)

  • April 26, 2008
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Hard Rock Videos · Music · Rocklahoma Reviews · Video

In 2007, the reunited Jetboy released an excellent CD/DVD Compilation, simply titled, The Glam Years.

Jetboy is one the more unappreciated bands of the 80’s hard rock/glam metal era. The CD gives you 21 tracks of hard rocking goodness, that is more of a best of package than it is demos. A couple of the songs are of demo quality, especially On The Lips, but the rest sound like finished versions.

This CD, also includes Jetboy’s killer cover of Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues!

The CD has the best cuts off of Jetboy’s five previously released CD’s Feel the Shake, Damned Nation, Day In the Glamour Life, Lost and Found, Make Some More Noise, One More For Rock and Roll.

This 2 disc package is priced to sell (under 15 dollars at most line retailers) and is worth the money for the CD alone. If you don’t own Jetboy’s out of print discs, Feel the Shake and Damned Nation already, this is the perfect way to reacquire some of the tunes from those records.

The DVD covers a live show the band did at the Whiskey A Go-Go in 1986. The video quality isn’t much to speak of, but it does do a good job of catching Jetboy in their prime. I enjoyed the live show on the DVD, as well as the tunes in this collection. I definitely recommend this to fans of 80’s glam metal.

Iron Maiden LADMy first choice for the Top Hard Rock DVD of 2008 so far is Iron Maiden’s Live After Death DVD.

In this two DVD set, you get one disc that is a full concert from the 1985 Powerslave tour. This was originally released on VHS several years ago, but I never got a copy of it. This new version, is released in 5.1 Surround Sound. This is the way to listen to Iron Maiden Show!!

The Concert Video is worth the price of admission by itself, but this is a two CD set and you get more.

Disc Two bring you the History of Iron Maiden, Part 2, (Part 1 was on the Early Years disc). You also get the Behind the Iron Curtain Documentary, and Live Footage from the 1985 Rock In Rio show.

All in all, this set is over three hours of Iron Maiden for you to enjoy. You will definitely want to replay these DVD’s over and over again.

Live After Death is a must own DVD release for all Iron Maiden Fans! Watching this DVD Set has me anxious for the 2008 tour. I can’t wait to see Iron Maiden Live again! Until then, I will be watching the Live After Death DVD’s.

2 Resident Evil Extinction – DVD Review

  • January 24, 2008
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Horror Movie Trailers · Movie Reviews

REEBack in 1996, I purchased and played the first horror survival game on the Sony Playstation, called Resident Evil.

I thought the game was extremely cool, but never in my wildest imagination, did I think this game would spawn several sequels, and three movies years later.

I have seen all of the movies in The Resident Evil franchise, and enjoyed Resident Evil: Extinction quite a bit. Each movie has plenty of science fiction
action and horror all rolled into one. Resident Evil: Extinction is no exception.

The premise of the movie is this: The Umbrella corporation who created the T-Virus, that turned the population of Raccoon City into a bunch of zombie’s. The Umbrella Corporation thought they controlled the outbreak of the Virus. As we find out in Resident Evil: Extinction, the outbreak of the T-Virus was not
controlled, turning the majority of the world’s population into man eating zombies.

Milla Jojovich resumes her role as Alice, and where Alice goes, you can betAlice RE
there will be plenty of dead zombies as a result.

A small band of survivors fight against all odds to find safe haven, against this
apocalyptic future.

I have always been a fan of Sci-Fi, action flicks, and this movie seems to borrow elements from The Planet of the Apes, Road Warrior, Night of the Living Dead, and Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Although it isn’t completely original, it is a good popcorn flick, and one worth checking out.

Milla Jovovich is joined by a solid cast, which includes Ali Larter (Heroes), Mike Epps, and the R&B singer Ashanti in this final sequel of the Resident Evil Series.

If you enjoyed the first two movies, you are sure to like this one too. Check it Out!

8 Rok Hollywood – DVD – (2007)

Rok Hollywood 3Rok Hollywood is a glam metal band on the rise, from Indianapolis, Indiana. The last couple of years the band has been growing their fan base, by playing at the 2006 Cruefest in Hollywood, CA which featured bands like Vains of Jenna, Antidote (Dirty Penny), Kid Ego, and Miss Crazy. Rok Hollywood has also opened for several marquee acts including: Ratt, Poison, Black Stone Cherry, Cinderella, L.A. Guns and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

They are a band on the rise on MTV2, and with a little luck could become a household name in the glam metal scene before long.

The band has allowed HardRockHideout.com to have a glimpse at their yetGlam Month unreleased DVD. This disc captures a live show by Rok Hollywood, in which they opened for L.A Guns at the 8 Seconds Saloon in Indianapolis. I was at this show, but due to traffic, I missed all but the last few minutes of the band’s performance. Based on what I have watched on this DVD, Rok Hollywood puts on one hell of a show. This DVD captures several of the Rok Hollywood’s original tracks, and a couple of cover tunes that the band performed live. Singer Shawn Merrill has a voice that falls somewhere between Dave Meniketti and Sebastian Bach. Guitarist David Short proves to be a very solid six stringer. His brother, drummer Daren Short is his equal on the skins. The band is rounded out nicely by guitarist Mike Rubadue, and new bass player, Aaron Lanane.

This DVD is not the finished product, as the band is going to capture more live footage, and interviews etc, to enhance this DVD. It is an entertaining set, and will be a worthy pick up for glam metal fans once the final product is released.

Until then, show Rok Hollywood some love, by checking out their myspace page, and pick up a copy of their CD. Just click on the logo below, or visit www.myspace.com/rokhollywood

1 Twisted Sister – A Twisted Christmas Live DVD (2007)

  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Music · Music DVD Reviews · Video

TwistedDVDIn 2006, Twisted Sister took the stage at the Starland Ballroom in Sayersville, NJ to a packed house.

A Twisted Christmas captures a great live show by the band, in which Twisted Sister performed several of their big hits, as well as a few tunes off of their 2006 Christmas CD, A Twisted Christmas.

Twisted Sister is one of the few bands from the 80’s era of rock that I never managed to see live, so I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The band sounds great live, and the concert was a high energy show that the crowd in New Jersey really got into.

Before 2006, Hard Rock fans only had Trans Siberian Orchestra to go to for some harder rocking Christmas tunes. Thank Goodness for Santa Dee and his twisted little elves for bringing this hard rock Christmas DVD.

When you are out spending your hard earned cash on Black Friday, and need something to get you in the mood for Christmas, pick up Twisted Sister’s A Christmas Live DVD, and have yourself a Heavy Metal Christmas!

On a side note, the DVD has some pretty cool extras including the following videos:

1 1408 – DVD Review

  • October 19, 2007
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Horror Movie Trailers · Movie Reviews

1408 It is getting closer to Halloween, and at this time of year, I usually take in a lot more movies of the horror variety.

Just in time for All Hallows Eve, comes the latest big screen adaptation from horror master Stephen King.

Writer Mike Enslin (John Cusack) is a writer about haunted place, and is a major disbeliever in ghosts as he has never seen one.

A mysterious postcard shows up, and warns him not to enter room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York City. Of course, sending a postcard like this to a ghost hunter of sorts is like giving candy to a baby. It is inevitable that he goes to the Dolphin to check out room 1408.

After much tried mass intervention from Hotel Manager, Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson), Mike Enslin checks into 1408.

What happens behind the closed hotel door will amaze you, if not completely creep you out, and a few things that may even make you jump!. It is a good story, and one that fans of Stephen King’s the Shining will likely enjoy.

1408 is the perfect movie to turn out the lights, and prepare for a good scare. Definitely rent worthy, and for horror fans, a worthy purchase.

0 Twisted Sister: The Video Years DVD (Release Year – 2007)

  • · DVD Review · Hard Rock Music · Music DVD Reviews

TS Video YearsJay Jay French was on the Eddie Trunk show last Monday (6/25/07) talking about current Twisted Sister news, and some T.S. history.

He mentioned that when they were requested to Rocklahoma, they would only agree to do the show if they were the Headlining Act. The band got their wish! When Twisted Sister takes the stage to close out the Rocklahoma Music Festival, they wont have any new music to support the show, but they do have a brand new DVD that was released Tuesday (6/26/07).

Twisted Sister, The Video Years is an excellent disc for all 80’s hard rock fans. This disc gives you all of the videos that the band put out over the years, as well as the video, thatRocklahoma Small MTV banned, Be Chrool to your Scuel.

This disc has one of the bands very early performances, (the first in the UK), and well as several live performances, and great interviews.

This disc is a must have for all Twisted Sister fans, and should be essential for all 80’s hard rock fans as well! It is a disc full of great music, and excellent history on one of the biggest hard rock bands in the 80’s.
