0 M3 Rock Festival – Day 2 Review – Firehouse
I can’t believe it has been three weeks since M3, but our coverage continues………..
When I last saw Firehouse back in 2007, at the Cherokee, NC they were one of the better bands of the weekend. Needless to say, I was really looking forward to seeing Firehouse play live again. With a short set, but band played everything I expected them to, but it would have been nice to see a song or two off of their last album Primetime. Their set list included the songs “Shake & Tumble”, “All She Wrote”, “When I Look Into Your Eyes”, “Overnight Sensation”,”Love Of A Lifetime”, “Reach For The Sky”, “and Don’t Treat Me Bad”. I thought Firehouse sounded good, but nowhere near as good as the last time I saw them. They still brought it, and that is all I can ask for!
The band did mention that they have a new greatest hits CD, Full Circle (released June 1st; available at iTunes, CDBaby & Amazon.com) so if you are looking for a cool compilation with all of Firehouse’s hit tunes (re-recorded), you may want to check that out. Also CJ Snare has a new side project called Rubicon Cross with Chris Green from Furyon. You can check out the samples here.

0 Bill Leverty To Appear On Hard Rock Nights Radio Show!
Firehouse guitarist speaks about his new solo release, ‘Deep South’
Guitarist Bill Leverty is the special guest on this week’s edition of Hard Rock Nights. Leverty speaks with JT about his new solo record, ‘Deep South,’ as well as his continued work with Firehouse and plans for a new Firehouse album.
With his guitar work as a member of Firehouse, Bill Leverty set the rock world ablaze with his fiery riffs and solos. But Leverty is no one-trick pony, as evidenced by his new solo release, ‘Deep South.’ Instead of focusing on the arena-ready rockers that his full-time band specializes in, ‘Deep South’ is steeped in tough blues and southern rock sounds – bringing to mind such legendary names as ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Allman Brothers.
In addition to supplying guitar, Leverty also handles lead vocal duties, as well as incorporating such uncommon instruments as a guitarelele and dobro into the mix. Featured is the album-opening “Trouble So Hard” (of which was made popular by Moby, who sampled some of the original in his hit single, “Natural Blues”), as well as the album’s first video, “Boll Weevil,” the sweet acoustic strum of “Walk Beside Me,” the muscular blues rock of “Samson and Delilah,” and a finger-snappin’ jazzy reading of the Ray Charles classic, “Hit the Road Jack” (which includes some impressive piano playing from Leverty, as well as vocals from his wife, Kris). Additionally, Leverty’s grandfather’s artwork adjourns the album’s front cover.
The interview can be heard on Hard Rock Nights September 4-10. Hard Rock Nights is a weekly syndicated radio program heard on a number of radio stations in the USA, Canada, and Europe (http://hardrocknights.wordpress.com/affiliates).

6 Monster Ballads Xmas – (Release Year – 2007)
Before 2006, the only band hard rock fans had to turn to at Christmas Time for harder edged X-mas music was Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
In 2006, Twisted Sister released their Christmas Album, and now in 2007, the fine folks at Razor & Tie Records have released a Christmas Compilation CD with some of the biggest stars of the 80’s Hard Rock Era.
Monster Ballads XMas is a tasty feast of reworked Christmas classics, and a song with a unique twist from Danger Danger. Every song on this disc is highly enjoyable, at least until you get to Faster Pussycat’s Silent Night, which is awful.
If you need a disc to get you in the mood for the holiday season, this is the one to pick up. There are only 23 shopping days left before X-Mas. Don’t miss out on this record!
Track Listing:
1. Jingle Bells – Skid Row
2. Happy Christmas (War Is Over) – Winger
3. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Jani Lane Of Warrant
4. I’ll Be Home for Christmas – Twisted Sister with Lita Ford
5. White Christmas – Queensryche
6. Run Rudolph Run – L.A. Guns
7. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Firehouse
8. Naughty Naughty Christmas – Danger Danger
9. Blue Christmas – Tom Keifer of Cinderella
10. Jingle Bell Rock – Nelson
11. Silent Night – Faster Pussycat
12. Twelve Days of Christmas – Dokken
13. Happy Holiday – Enuff Z’Nuff
14. Winter Wonderland – Stryper
15. Christmas Love – Billy Idol
4 Redline – Ignition (Release Year – 2007)
After one listen to the debut effort by United Kingdom’s hard rockers, Redline, I wish I could pack my bags and move to Europe to start up a new Hard Rock Record Label. It is mind blowing to me at times, that so many new hard rock bands can reproduce that great style of ’80’s hard rock. Too many new bands are not getting the exposure they deserve and Redline is one of them!
Redline has a sound that is well rooted in 80’s hard rock. Singer Liam Doherty has a sound that is similar to C.J. Snare from Firehouse, but this band rocks as hard as Lynch era Dokken. Does the sound work? You bet it does!
Ignition rocks hard all the way through, and there isn’t a bad song in the bunch! “King of the Mountain” starts Ignition off right with a good head banging tune that will put a smile on the face of most hard rock fans. By the time you get done listening to “No Limits” and “Twistin’ The Knife”, you may have to put the CD on pause and go find yourself a neck brace.
Lucky for you, the band slows it down with the highly enjoyable ballad “Cold Silence“.
The pace picks back up with “High Price to Pay” and bewilders your senses right through the final cut “Ride“.
I love this CD, and I think both new rock fans and 80’s hard rock fans are going to love this disc! You can pick up a copy of Ignition and preview the tracks through CDBaby. For more information on Redline, check out their myspace page here.
Here is the promotional clip for King of the Mountain. The version on the CD sounds even better than this one.

0 Firehouse – Prime Time (Release Year – 2004)
One of the bands that will be taking the stage late Saturday Afternoon during the Rocklahoma Music Festival, is Firehouse. This is one of the bands that I would love to catch live again, as they always put on a good show.
The last disc Firehouse put out, Prime Time, was a far heavier disc than they have released in recent years, and one of my personal favorites.
The first track Prime Time is a heavy funky number that has a very RATT like bass feel to it. Bill Leverty has a great solo in this song.
The music on Crash is quite infectious and rocks hard!
The first time I heard Door to Door, my first thoughts were Hell Yeah! A hard rock band that wrote a song about NASCAR. I love it when two of my favorite things come together this well. This song was actually sung by drummer, Michael Foster. Great Song!
Perfect Lie is a heavy number that has a keyboard track added in. I love to hear Firehouse rocking out like this! Very Cool!
Bill Leverty takes over the vocals on Holding On. He has a very good Southern Rock style of voice. When paired with this great music, it sounds pretty cool.
Body Language is one of the heaviest, sounding numbers on Prime Time. This is one of my favorite tracks on this disc.
I’m the One features Bill Leverty on vocals and has a very bluesy older Whitesnake feel about it. This song keeps the pace moving nicely, and is quite good.
C.J. Snare takes over the microphone on Take Me Away. This song is a very upbeat, hard track with more great solos by Bill Leverty.
Home Tonight is an up tempo number. To me this is the only song on Prime Time that is average. The pacing of the lyrics is kind of strange at times, but the music kicks ass. I guess its a trade off, but is my least favorite song on this disc.
Let Go is a very nice piano based ballad. I thought it was odd to close the disc out with this track instead of putting it more towards the center of Prime Time.
In Conclusion, Prime Time rocks harder than any recording that Firehouse has released, but stays true to the bands’ sound. Hard rock fans are sure to enjoy this CD and should pick it up. Rocklahoma concert goers are sure to hear some of these kick ass song live in July!
