HalcyonWay

HALCYON WAY are preparing to hit the road in North America with Saxon and Fozzy. The tour kicks off this Thursday September 12th in Patchouge, NY and runs through October 19th in Vancouver, BC.  A complete list of dates can be found below.

HALCYON WAY are currently in the final stages of mixing for their new album.  The band recently completed work on a video for the song “Web Of Lies”.  The video received its exclusive premiere last weekend at the ProgPower USA XIV in Atlanta, GA.  The video can be seen below!

Guitarist Jon Bodan commented on the video and the upcoming tour:

“We are very excited to unleash our first music video on the world!  It’s been a long time coming but we like to do things right, and we think it’s worth the wait.  Check it out, and share it with your friends!  Also be sure to see us on tour with Saxon and Fozzy this month!”

The band’s forthcoming album was produced by Jon Bodan & Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer) with additional vocal production by Seth Von Paulus (Linda Perry, Alicia Keys, Crash Kings, Smashing Pumpkins).  Art will again be handled by the legendary Travis Smith at Seempieces.”

Known for their explosive live shows, instantly catchy melodies, precise vocal harmonies, incendiary guitar work, intricate yet pounding drums, and live props and showmanship hearkening back to the glory days of arena rock, they dominate the live scene.

Aurally combining the heaviness of bands like Testament, the technical prowess of Dream Theater, the power metallic attitude of Evergrey and soaring vocal melodies, HALCYON WAY will leave you awestricken by their punishing riffs and unforgettable hooks.

1 FOZZY SIGNS WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

  • January 18, 2012
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music
Century Media Records are proud to announce the signing of internationally-renowned metal band FOZZY. The brainchild of Chris Jericho and Rich Ward, Fozzy was formed a decade ago out of a passion for hard rock and heavy metal and has transformed into one of North America’s most electrifying bands.”We are so excited and honored to be part of the Century Media family,” says Chris Jericho, an entertainment icon who has achieved legendary status as one of the WWE’s most acclaimed superstars, penned two New York Times best-selling autobiographies, and was a finalist on ABC’s hit television show Dancing with the Stars in 2011. “Fozzy finally has a record company with the firepower and worldwide influence we need and deserve to rise to the next level – Century Media is the perfect home for Fozzy, and we are stoked to release the masterpiece album of our career and conquer the world… and elsewhere!”

Chris Jericho will discuss Fozzy’s signing to Century Media Records tomorrow morning at 9am PST (Thursday, January 19, 2011) on the legendary Los Angeles radio station 95.5 KLOS, where he’ll appear live on the Mark and Brian morning show. To listen live on the internet from around the world, click here.

Fozzy – lead singer Chris Jericho, guitarist Rich Ward, drummer Frank Fontsere, bassist Paul DiLeo and guitarist Billy Grey – will release their Century Media debut worldwide in summer 2012. The album will be the follow-up to their acclaimed 2010 release Chasing The Grail , which saw them tour 15 countries around the world and perform in cities from Los Angeles to Lichtenvoorde, including an appearance alongside metal’s Big 4 – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – on the Knebworth Sonisphere, and a string of dates on the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival headlined by Avenged Sevenfold.

“There are very few musicians I respect more than Rich Ward, and I couldn’t be prouder of bringing him home to Century Media Records, the label that introduced me to Stuck Mojo in 1995,” says Century Media Records product manager Paul Gargano. “Chris is one of the most captivating entertainers and electrifying frontmen I know, and Fozzy have emerged as one of the best-kept secrets in hard rock and metal over the years – now it’s time to let the secret out…”

“Shortly after my 12th Birthday, while air-guitaring to Iron Maiden, I decided that when I grew up, I wanted to ‘pay my bills’ by playing guitar,” says Ward. “In 1995, Century Media Records allowed this seemingly unreachable goal to become a reality with my band Stuck Mojo. When that relationship came to an end in 2001, I continued making and releasing music with several different bands, through several different record companies. There was only one common thread in all my experiences with these other organizations – I wished they were more like Century Media.”

“The truth is, like any ‘first’ relationship, it’s tough to get a real perspective of how good it really is until you’ve had other relationships to compare it to. After having lots of opportunities to gain some perspective, I am honored to return to Century Media Records as they become the home for Fozzy’s music. I’m so grateful to be able to play music for a living, and it is a privilege to continue my career with the label that gave me my start.”

With the new album “HATED” out this summer the only thing we want to do is to hit the roads! Germany has been our “second home” the last years and has except for Sweden been the country we undoubtedly done most gigs. It´s always been a blast down there. Cheers!”

3 Fozzy – Chasing The Grail (2010)

  • February 22, 2010

What started out as a joke has morphed into a solid heavy metal band…

It all started one day in 1999. Professional wrestler Chris Jericho was wrestling at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Rich Ward of Stuck Mojo happened to be at the event and met Jericho backstage. While conversing, they began to discuss their shared love of music and discovered that they had been heavily influenced by many of the same bands. A few months later, Ward invited Jericho to sing with a cover band he had started, and Fozzy was born.

Upon signing a record deal, Ward and Jericho decided that they should do something to differentiate themselves from other cover bands and decided to develop a “Spinal Tap” sort of backstory. The members of the band adopted characters and acted as if the songs they covered were actually their own songs, but the songs had been stolen from them while they had been exiled from America due to a record deal gone wrong. The label took the story and ran with it, filming a 30 minute “mockumentary” which aired on MTV and received rave reviews. Then in October of 2000, the band released it’s self-titled debut that consisted primarily of covers. The last two songs on the album were originals. Fozzy sounded exactly like what they were on that first album…nothing more than a mediocre cover band.

When the band began work on their second album, they had determined that they wanted to progress as a band and worked diligently toward that end. Happenstance was released in 2002, consisting of half covers and half originals. They gained much more notoriety, particularly in Europe. Longing to be taken seriously, the band dropped their storyline.

Fozzy’s third album, All That Remains, was released in 2005. This was the their first collection of all original material, and it was good enough to make the metal world pay attention. Fozzy wasn’t a joke anymore. With this album came confirmation that Fozzy might just have what it takes to become a force to be reckoned with.

Fast forward to 2010 and the release of Chasing The Grail. Fozzy has returned with a fire-breathing vengeance, and there can no longer be any doubt – this band is the real deal. While traces of influences such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest still exist, Fozzy succeeds in making the music their own. From start to finish, the album is energetic and aggressive, incorporating thick guitar riffs, bludgeoning drums, and vocals that deliver ferocity and melody in tandem.

Chasing The Grail is undeniably complex, blending components of both arena and melodic rock, and even taking a progressive turn at the end of the album. The first track, “Under Blackened Skies,” is a double-barreled, relentless, inflammatory assault on your speakers and sets the stage for what’s to come. It’s followed by “Martyr No More,” a heavy yet melodious rock anthem which was used as the theme song for WWE’s 2010 Royal Rumble. “Grail” is next and is my pick for best song on the album. The drum work is literally mind-blowing; Frank Fontsere’s skills on the kit are beyond astounding. The song is purely addictive.

“Broken Soul” is the album’s sole ballad. The guitar riffs give the song an ’80’s feel. Jericho’s vocals are reminiscent of Ozzy, and the band backs him with very tight harmonies. “Let The Madness Begin” follows with a thrashy, powerful groove. “Pray For Blood”….I don’t even know where to start! This song is pummeling, and true metalheads will LOVE it. From a musical standpoint, the song is more than technically sound. After hearing it, Fozzy’s musicianship is simply undeniable. Oh, did I mention that Frank Fontsere is a drum god?!?!

Next is “New Day’s Dawn.” This is my least favorite song on the album. It has a very strange feel. It seriously sounds like something that Adam Lambert would sing, and it makes me feel like I’m listening to a soundtrack from a vampire movie. Thankfully, things pick back up with “God Pounds His Nails” and “Watch Me Shine,” a couple of straight-up hard rock songs, the latter of which is quite melodic.

Metalheads, rejoice!! “Paraskavedekatriaphobia (Friday The 13th)” is riddled with speed metal at its finest. “Revival” is a magnificent, heavy song with complex sounds and crafty key-changes. The final song, “Wormwood,” is a 14 minute progressive rock song composed of more elements than you can imagine….from acoustic guitars to a Hammond organ to a rousing chorus that brings the pain, it is nothing short of amazing.

I first listened to Fozzy because I was a fan of Chris Jericho, and I found the band’s “backstory” to be amusing. I’m listening to Fozzy now and will continue to do so because they’ve just put out a damn good rock album. If the grail equates to rock superiority, Fozzy can stop chasing – they’ve already captured it.

Welcome to the big leagues, boys!!

1 Fozzy – All That Remains (Release Year – 2005)

  • February 25, 2007

  • · CD Reviews A-H

Fozzy - All That RemainsFozzy is the band fronted by WWE wrestler Chris Jericho and Stuck Mojo guitarist Rich Ward. I am not much of a wrestling fan, so I can honestly say that I have never seen Jericho wrestle, but I do know this, he is a good singer and he should be focusing on music, and not wasting his time in wrestling.

All That Remains shows that Fozzy has come along way from their tumultuous beginning as a glorified cover band.

All That Remains blasts off with two awesome hard rock tracks, Nameless and Enemy. Wanderlust is another killer track featuring the heavy guitars of Zakk Wylde. The Title track, All That Remains, maintains the heavy pace of this disc. This track is more subdued, but is a great sounding song.

The Test starts with an ultra heavy guitar riff, and ventures back and forth from a thrash to hard rock sound. This track is growing on me.

Its A Lie is a rap metal fusion featuring rapper Bonecrusher on vocals with Chris Jericho. I have never been a big fan of rap metal, so this track is bascially a throw away to me, but it may appeal to others.

Daze of the Week goes back to the normal Fozzy hard rock formula and kicks ass while doing so. Way I Am is a pretty good headbanger, and Lazarus, which sounds quite similar to Nameless, is one of the better tracks on All That Remains.

Born of Anger ends this disc with a non Fozzy like, Thrash /Death Metal type growler featuring former Megadeth guitarist, Marty Friedman. I did not care for this track at all, and it was a total throw away to me.

As a whole, All That Remains is a great Hard Rock disc that should not be missed. You can check out more Fozzy tracks at Fozzy’s MySpace Page. I have attached the video for Enemy below. Check it Out!
