0 Vie’s Verses – Summer’s Last Gasp For Concerts
It’s August. The dog days of summer. Baseball is waiting for September when the pennant races get exciting. Football is in pre-season that not many people pay attention too. Hockey and basketball are still weeks away from starting up. The movies are churning out the leftovers that weren’t good enough for early summer. And the summer concerts are winding down. Haven’t had a chance to take in a show this year? Worried that the season may have passed you by? Well, fear not. This edition of Vie’s Verses is dedicated to some great remaining concerts that you can still catch.
Kid Rock/ZZ Top
Want to see a show on the cheap? Do you plan on being in the Detroit area in August? Kid Rock has you covered. Rock is currently touring with ZZ Top and Uncle Kracker and they will take up a week long residence in Detroit, before heading out to other stops on the end of their summer trek. The great thing about the Kid Rock tour is that prices are intentionally low. Every ticket, regardless of where the seat is, is $20. That’s a pretty good price to see ZZ Top and Kid Rock. Rock puts on an energetic performance, and fans definitely get their money’s worth.
Shinedown
The Carnival Of Madness Tour is in full swing featuring Skillet, Papa Roach, and Shinedown as the headline act. This is a great package show that runs through mid-September and tickets are still available for most dates. Papa Roach is an incredible live act, Skillet’s new album is excellent, and Shinedown is a hard rocking band still touring in support of the magnificent Amaryllis. Tickets range between $33 to $85 and for a total of five solid bands (In This Moment and We As Human are also performing) this is a great value for a summer concert.
Alice In Chains/Jane’s Addiction
Two great bands, one great night. Alice In Chains has teamed up with Jane’s Addiction to head out on the road. Throw in Coheed and Cambria, Danko Jones, and Circa Survive and you have one heck of a festival concert. Both Alice In Chains and Jane’s Addiction have a deep catalog of hits to perform, and while I’ve never seen Alice In Chains in concert, I know that Jane’s Addiction puts on an exceptional show. I’ve also heard great things about Danko Jones’ live act. Tickets range between $30 and $128 for this package deal and the tour runs through September 15th.
Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath. The forefathers of heavy metal. One of the most notorious bands in the history of rock and roll. If you’ve never seen Black Sabbath live, now is the time to change that. Sabbath is one of those bands that have to be seen live before you (or they) die. And with the age of this band, who knows how many more (if any) tours they have in them? On their current tour, the band sounds great, they play a set list of hits, and some new songs are featured that are absolutely fabulous live in concert. Ozzy’s vocals are clean and crisp, Geezer Butler sounds great on the bass, and Tony Iommi has never played a better guitar. I was absolutely amazed by the talent this band can still bring to the stage. Tickets for this show range between $47 and $163.
Iron Maiden
Up the irons! Iron Maiden is doing a quick 7 show run through the US with Megadeth as the opening act. The band is hitting specific spots of the country, so some travel may be required, but if you have the time and the desire, Maiden makes for a great summer night live in concert. The band is still performing their Maiden England tour, which means there will be nothing but hits. It’s reliving the late 80s all over again. Words can’t even describe how incredible Iron Maiden is in concert, and if you’ve been longing for a superb summer concert, this is the one to see. Tickets range between $42 and $109. Having seen Maiden in concert several times, I can tell you that the price is worth it.
To see if any of these bands are coming near your town, visit Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com). And if none of these shows are nearby, there is no need to worry. The fall will be here before you know it bringing a great many shows of its own.

0 Vie’s Verses – 25 Years Of Maiden Fan-dom
Vie’s Verses – 25 Years Of Maiden Fan-dom
This April, (April 11th to be precise) will mark 25 years since Iron Maiden’s magnificent Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son was released. To some Iron Maiden fans it is the anniversary of another terrific Iron Maiden album. Others may remember the first time they listened to the big radio hit “Can I Play With Madness,” or heard the pulsating bass lines of “The Clairvoyant” with fond glee. And while those are wonderful memories to look back on, the release of Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son means a whole lot more to me. It marks 25 years since I became an Iron Maiden fan.
Certainly I had heard of the band prior to their 1988 record. I am sure that I heard “Number Of The Beast” or “Ace’s High” once or twice, but I never really paid much attention to them. Prior to 1988 I was still in junior high school thinking the Stray Cats were cool and believing that Van Halen was as heavy as metal music got. Then I entered high school. I discovered Manowar, Guns N Roses, and Iron Maiden. The first time I heard “Can I Play With Madness” on the local rock radio station (WDHA-FM), I was hooked. My jaw dropped. My heart pounded. What the heck was I hearing and who was the wonderful band singing “Can I play with matches?” I loved playing with matches! Yes, that’s a true story, I honestly believed the lyrics were “can I play with matches?”
Mixed up composition aside, I had fallen in love hard for this song and I had to have it. Soon after I got myself a copy of Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and proceeded to play it until it warped. From “Moonchild” to “Only The Good Die Young,” I loved it all. Every song was a gem to me. It was all fresh and unknown. This was much better than Van Halen and light years away from The Stray Cats. Iron Maiden were masters of rock to me and on the same plateau as the legendary Kiss. I had to hear more of them.
Fortunately for me, there was a nice back catalog that I slowly started to collect. Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, and Number Of The Beast were all owned before the year was over. My journey with Iron Maiden had begun. And while the other albums were fantastic, they never quite compared to Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son in my eyes. To this day, they still don’t. I know deep down that Number Of The Beast is a better album overall, but Seventh Son will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the record that made me an Iron Maiden fan. I will always cherish that.
Now, 25 years later, Iron Maiden is gracing us with a remastered DVD from the Seventh Son tour. Maiden England ’88 came out this week and I am excited to get my hands on a copy and watch the magic come to life. Were I a teenager in high school, I would most likely watch this over and over and over again until it was ingrained in my brain. However, I am a full grown adult now, with full grown responsibilities. So while I may not be able to watch it more than once (maybe twice….) the time that I do spend watching it will be a cherished ride down memory lane. It will recall my past and bring back that nostalgic period of my youth where I fell in love with Iron Maiden forever … unto the end.
If you get a chance, pick up a copy of Maiden England ‘88. Not only does it contain the complete concert that has never been available on DVD, but there are a plethora of bonuses as well. Part three of the history of Iron Maiden, the original Twelve Wasted Years documentary, and five videos that you probably watched every time Headbanger’s Ball aired them. It’s the next step in a Maiden lover’s collection and definitely worth the price. (For the record that price is $17 at Amazon and Best Buy).
Up The Irons!!!

4 Alice Cooper & Iron Maiden At The Klipsch Music Center 7/19/12
Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden came to the Klipsch Music Center in Nobelsville, Indiana on Thursday, July 19th. I thought I was going to miss Alice Cooper, as the show was to start at 7:30. The road going into the concert was backed up for two miles. I didn’t hit the parking lot until after 8 P.M. but a Severe Thunderstorm rolled through which prevented this concert from starting on time. I was extremely grateful for mother nature to play her part, as five minutes after I sat down, Alice Cooper took the stage.
This is third time I have seen Alice Cooper in three years, and his show hasn’t changed too much from the previous two times I have seen him, but it didn’t matter as the show Alice and his band put on was outstanding. Alice Cooper’s band consisted of Chuck Garric on bass, Orianthi,, Tommy Henriksen and Ryan Roxie on Guitar and Glen Sobel on drums. The band was excellent, and all of Alice’s normal theatrics (the guillotine, Frankenalice, etc.) were present in this show. I loved every minute of it. I was surprised that two of the songs in Alice’s set came from his 2000 album Brutal Planet, and none from Welcome 2 My Nightmare. I thought his set was way too short, but I would probably think this, if he played for two hours. Alice Cooper’s set list was: The Black Widow, Brutal Planet, I’m Eighteen, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Billion Dollar Babies, Feed My Frankenstein, Poison, Wicked Young Man, Killer, I Love the Dead, and School’s Out.
After a lengthy intermission due to an elaborate stage set up, Iron Maiden took the stage after 9:00 P.M. The digital screens on both sides of the stage showed visions of an Arctic Voyage through several glaciers and icebergs. When the stage was revealed, it looked like the ice age hit Iron Maiden’s stage. It was a very cool look with lots of fog, and blue lights to give it that chilly appearance. Iron Maiden’s stage may have been a little frosty, but their performance was anything but that. Every time I have seen Iron Maiden live, they have absolutely killed it, and this night was no exception. The mighty Bruce Dickinson still has every bit of the powerhouse voice that got him the Maiden gig back in 1981. He was running all over the multi-level stage all night, and absolutely rocking the crowd. I especially loved it, when he called out a guy on the left side of the stage who spent three of the songs texting on her cell phone. He called him a “Wanker!” 🙂
Janick Gers might be 55 years old, but he could give a clinic to most guitar players out there. His guitar acrobatics were a lot of fun to watch. The whole band was on fire, and was constantly in motion all night. There was plenty of pyro, different backdrops and stage theatrics, and of course a 20 foot tall Eddie, and a huge Eddie that came out of the stage.
Iron Maiden’s set list consisted of the songs Moonchild, Can I Play With Madness, The Prisoner, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, The Trooper, The Number of the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Run to the Hills, Wasted Years, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, The Clairvoyant, Fear of the Dark, Iron Maiden, Aces High, The Evil That Men Do and Running Free.
This was easily the best concert I have seen in 2012, and can’t wait to see Iron Maiden again. I was only armed with a point and shoot camera for this show, but I did get a few decent shots. If you get the chance to catch the Maiden England tour do so, you won’t be disappointed.
3 IRON MAIDEN’S TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO THE SOUTH EAST! THE OPENING SHOW OF THE MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR IN CHARLOTTE NC THURSDAY NIGHT
IRON MAIDEN’S TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO THE SOUTH EAST!
THE OPENING SHOW OF THE MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR IN CHARLOTTE NC THURSDAY NIGHT
Close to 14,000 fans turned out in force Thursday night for the opening show of Iron Maiden’s MAIDEN ENGLAND NORTH AMERICAN TOUR in Charlotte NC, setting the spectacular tour off to a flying start.
Singer Bruce Dickinson commented “We haven’t played in Charlotte since 1988 so we really didn’t expect anything like this number of people would come and see us! And what a terrific audience! Truly magical.”
“We had expected this to be a sort of lower key warm-up show to get the production, pyro and stuff into shape, and ourselves too! It was our first show since those at London’s 02 Arena last August so band and crew can all get a bit rusty. But a crowd this loud and supportive soon blew the cobwebs away – thank you Charlotte!”
Bass player Steve Harris added “It was fantastic to see so many fans since we were last here with the original Seventh Son tour 24 years ago. Some of the songs we’ve not performed for many years and the crowd reaction was just amazing, especially among the younger fans hearing them live for the first time. A response like that on the first night was incredible. We’re totally knocked out and can’t wait for the rest of the tour!”
Courtney Devores from The Charlotte Observer commented “The crowd response was that of fans that had been waiting over two decades (and in some cases their entire lives), The reaction to The Trooper..was arguably unparalleled throughout the night.” Read the full review here http://cltsoundbites.blogspot.com/?m=0
Creative Loafing’s Jeff Hahne called the show “A feast for the eyes and ears……Maiden isn’t on a nostalgia trip this time round. They’re putting everything they’ve got into the music, getting the crowd involved at every chance and loving every minute of it.” Read the full review here http://clclt.com/vibes/archives/2012/06/22/live-review-iron-maiden-verizon-wireless-amphitheatre-6212012
The full set list at Charlotte was: Moonchild, Can I Play With Madness, The Prisoner, 2 Minutes To Midnight, Afraid To Shoot Strangers, The Trooper, The Number Of The Beast, Phantom Of The Opera, Run To The Hills, Wasted Years, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, Clairvoyant, Fear Of The Dark, Iron Maiden, Aces High, The Evil That Men Do, Running Free.
The 34 date MAIDEN ENGLAND tour is the band’s most extensive visit to North America for many years and includes a number of other cities the band have not played in a very long time such as Atlanta, Milwaukee, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City and Sacramento, and places like Sarnia (Ontario, Canada) and Cadott, WI where they have never visited before. The tour is based on the band’s “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour” with a set list almost exclusively from the 1980s featuring all the classic songs and hits. The same spectacular stage set as was used on the original 1988 tour has been recreated, complete with a magnificent light show, pyro and a newly reincarnated Eddie!
Fans can check out a sneak peek video at www.ironmaiden.com for a taste of the new Eddies and some truly breathtaking pyro!
Iron Maiden are delighted to announce that the extraordinary and legendary Alice Cooper will be their Very Special Guest on all shows up to July 21. After that date, Special Guest will be Coheed and Cambria, the inspiring, cutting edge band from New York.
TIckets for the MAIDEN ENGLAND tour are on sale now and Fan Club members should check out ironmaiden.com to enter the draw to be ‘First To The Barrier’ which will be run in appropriate venues and allows fans access to the venue on show day before doors open to the public.
Iron Maiden continue to be actively dedicated to ensuring their fans always have full access to the best possible tickets in the fairest possible way. Manager Rod Smallwood comments:
“We are trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want in the prime positions without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. Maiden get infuriated with the way fans sometimes have to pay more than the ticket price to get good positions at our shows. So we will, wherever possible (Festivals excluded), with the assistance of the Promoters, arrange a paperless ticketing system at least for the front sections to try to eliminate as much of the ticket scalping and exchanges as we can. We put this into practice on our North American Tour in 2010; it worked well and we received many positive comments back from our fans, so we intend to increase this where feasible. With paperless ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided (please see the comments from Ticketmaster below). We are also doing everything we can to avoid any drain of prime tickets going to the Secondary Ticketing sites which we feel make unfair profits from music fans.
As we consider all our fans to be VIPs, no tickets will be held specifically for VIP use. At some venues, the Promoter may provide the option for fans to pay extra for “VIP Parking”, early access, access to “VIP Bar” etc. But these will be purely optional for ticket holders only and will not be tied to ticket locations – the ability to get the best tickets should be the same for everybody outside of the usual presales.
TICKETMASTER comments:
Where possible the North American Iron Maiden shows will operate a paperless ticket policy. Select tickets will be sold via Ticketmaster’s Paperless Ticket delivery, which means fans will not receive a physical concert ticket for their entry into the event. Buying paperless helps ensure fans have secure and convenient access to event tickets at the intended original sale price. On the day of show, concert goers just need to bring the credit card they used for the ticket purchase and a government-issued photo ID to the concert. All members of the ticket purchaser’s party must be present at the same time to enter the venue. The venue’s ticket usher will swipe their credit card upon entry and present each person in their party with seat locator slips for quick access into the show. To purchase paperless tickets or for more information, fans should visit www.ticketmaster.com/paperless or call the Ticketmaster charge-by-phone number at 1-800-745-3000.”

0 IRON MAIDEN: NEW BOOK COMING IN JUNE – COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED HISTORY
“The Ultimate Unauthorized History Of The Beast”, a new book by Neil Daniels, will be released in June via Jawbone Books in the U.K. and Voyageur Press in the U.S.
Formed in east London in 1975, IRON MAIDEN went on to become one of the most successful rock acts in history. With more than 85 million album sales to their credit, the legendary metal band remains hugely popular worldwide: Their 2010 album, “The Final Frontier”, debuted at No. 1 in 30 countries and received unanimous critical praise.
In this, the first complete illustrated treatment of IRON MAIDEN, a roster of respected heavy metal journalists — including Ian Christe, Martin Popoff, Mick Wall, Daniel Bukszpan, and more — relate the band’s history, analyze their recordings, and provide a complete discography.
The stories behind the band’s formation, recordings, and tours, are complemented with more than 400 images, including live performance and candid off-stage photographs, as well as memorabilia, gig posters, T-shirts, backstage passes, buttons, and tickets. And with Derek Riggs (the man behind IRON MAIDEN’s iconic mascot, Eddie) having created the book’s exclusive cover art, this really is a must for any serious IRON MAIDEN collector.
Few bands have as widespread global appeal as IRON MAIDEN. Here is the book that gives that history its just treatment.
Neil Daniels has written about classic rock and heavy metal for a wide range of magazines, fanzines, and web sites. He had more than 10 books published between 2007 and 2011, including titles on JUDAS PRIEST, Robert Plant, BON JOVI, and JOURNEY. His reviews, articles, and interviews have appeared in The Guardian, Rock Sound, Record Collector and myriad other publications and web sites.

MAIDEN ON THE CHARGE
Following the massively successful Final Frontier World Tour 2010-11, IRON MAIDEN are back on the road this summer with a series of Arena, Amphitheatre and Festival shows in the U.S.A. and Canada, opening in Charlotte, NC, U.S.A. on June 21, and finishing in Houston, TX, on Aug 18 (dates listed below), to be followed by further dates around the World in 2013. Alice Cooper will be very special guest on all shows to July 21, and inspirational New Yorkers Coheed and Cambria on all shows after July 21.
The Maiden England World Tour will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, the original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour. This opening section of the World Tour is the band’s most extensive visit to North America for many years and includes a number of cities the band have not played in a very long time, such as Charlotte, Atlanta, Buffalo, Indianapolis and Salt Lake City.
MAIDEN ENGLAND marks the third chapter in the History of Iron Maiden, a journey which began in 2004 with The Early Days DVD and subsequent 2005 Early Days Tour. Part Two followed in 2008 with the Live After Death DVD – the seminal 1984 concert recorded at Long Beach Arena (L.A) during the World Slavery Tour – and the band embarking on their groundbreaking Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008/9, which saw them play to over two million fans in almost 40 countries.
Comments vocalist Bruce Dickinson, “We have great fun playing the History of Maiden Tours because it gives us an opportunity between new albums to go out and play songs from our earlier catalogue. It’s always fantastic seeing the crowd reaction from a new generation of fans who have never experienced some of these tracks performed live before, and of course we know our longstanding fans will enjoy seeing the original Seventh Son Tour re-visited – with many other surprises!
“Our intention is to play about two thirds of the original track list of Maiden England (shown below*), including some songs we have not played live in a very, very long time, plus other favourites we just know the fans are going to want to hear! We always try to give our fans a great show musically, but we have always tried to make it as entertaining and memorable an experience as we can visually. And we all feel this show is going to do that splendidly! We can’t wait to get started in Charlotte”.
*Maiden England 1988 Longform Video VHS Tracklisting Moonchild, The Evil That Men Do, The Prisoner, Still Life, Die With Your Boots On, Infinite Dreams, Killers, Can I Play With Madness, Heaven Can Wait, Wasted Years, The Clairvoyant, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, The Number Of The Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Iron Maiden.

1 IRON MAIDEN RELEASE “BLOOD BROTHERS” CLIP TAKEN FROM ‘EN VIVO’
‘EN VIVO’ AVAILABLE ON BLU-RAY, DVD, AND DOUBLE SOUNDTRACK ALBUM ON 3/26/2012
Iron Maiden have just released a live clip of the song “Blood Brothers” which is taken from their upcoming EN VIVO! live release. EN VIVO! features the bands live performance on April 10th, 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago, during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans.
With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of Iron Maiden 2011. Bass player and founding member Steve Harris comments, “For The Final Frontier Tour,it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we’re always so overwhelmed by the fans reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration, we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back, and it’s got better and better each time!”
The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden’s longstanding producer, Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members more closely, and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden’s most recent studio album, 2010’s The Final Frontier, through to classic fan favorites via the band’s vast and varied catalogue (full set listing below).Disc two of the DVD set is a bonus disc containing an 88-minute documentary, Behind The Beast. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden’s own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality “home movie” for their fans to see how Iron Maiden put on a tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking come to life through the day-to-day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live stadium shows around the world out of the belly of a Boeing 757. 2 Iron Maiden Announces Maiden England World Tour
U.K. metal legend Iron Maiden has announced the “Maiden England Tour” with extensive dates in North America this summer. Up to July 21, 2012, the special guest act will be Alice Cooper and after July 21, 2012, the band will be Coheed & Cambria.
In most venues, tickets will go on sale on March 2 and 3 but watch this site or check local venue information for fuller details. Fan Club members should check out ironmaiden.com for exclusive first day ticket pre-sales and contest to be ‘First To The Barrier’.
Our intention is to play about two thirds of the original tracklist of Maiden England (shown below*), including some songs we have not played live in a very, very long time, plus other favourites we just know the fans are going to want to hear! We always try to give our fans a great show musically, but we have always tried to make it as entertaining and memorable an experience as we can visually. And we all feel this show is going to do that splendidly! We can’t wait to get started in Charlotte.”
Iron Maiden are delighted to announce that the extraordinary and legendary ALICE COOPER will be their very special guest on all shows up to July 21st. After that date, special guest will be COHEED AND CAMBRIA, the inspiring, cutting edge band from New York.
Iron Maiden continue to be actively dedicated to ensuring their fans always have full access to the best possible tickets in the fairest possible way.
Manager Rod Smallwood comments: “We are trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want in the prime positions without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers.
Finally, we are of course once again arranging exclusive ticket pre-sales for our fan club members so they can be quick off the mark for great tickets and will also continue to run the contest in appropriate venues for fan club members so they can be ‘First To The Barrier’ prior to the show. We hope that these measures will help our fans as much as possible and ask that they keep checking for details on our website.”
Ticketmaster comments: “Where possible the North American Iron Maiden shows will operate a paperless ticket policy. To purchase paperless tickets or for more information, fans should visit http://www.ticketmaster.com/paperless or call the Ticketmaster charge-by-phone number at 1-800-745-3000.”

3 New Iron Maiden DVD & Blu-Ray “EN VIVO” Coming in March!!
Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) is proud to announce the release of “EN VIVO!,” a new live IRON MAIDEN Blu-ray™, 2-DVDSet and double soundtrack album, on Tuesday, March 27, in the U.S.
“EN VIVO!” was filmed on April 10, 2011, in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago, during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans.
Bass player and founder member Steve Harris comments “For The Final Frontier Tour it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we’re always so overwhelmed by the fans’ reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire Tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back and it’s got better and better each time!
This show also features the gigantic new Eddie. He wasn’t due to make his appearance until our European leg of the tour later in 2011, but we managed to transport him across the sea in a special huge container just in time for the latter end of the South American dates so it was great we were able to immortalize him for the DVD as he really has to be seen to be believed!”
The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden’s longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members closer and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden’s most recent studio album, 2010’s The Final Frontier through to classic fan favourites via the band’s vast and varied catalogue. (full set listing below).
DVD Disc Two is a Bonus Disc containing an 88-minute documentary, BEHIND THE BEAST. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden’s own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality “home movie” for their fans of how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. It illustrates the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking comes to life through the day to day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. The bonus disc also contains an extended version of the promo video “Satellite 15…The Final Frontier”, a video about the making of “Satellite 15…The Final Frontier” plus the opening video sequence to The Final Frontier World Tour.
In addition to the Blu-Ray, the 2DVD will initially be available as a Limited Edition double DVD in Collectors Steel book case and Double Vinyl Picture Disc. As well as a traditional 2CD Soundtrack album, EN VIVO! will also be available as a Digital Download, CD soundtrack album and Digital Download Video.

0 2006 Videos – Iron Maiden – Different World & The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
When thinking back to HRH’s humble beginning in 2006, one metal band stood taller than them all, and that was Iron Maiden. Their album A Matter of Life & Death still stands as one of the band’s best releases.
Check out the two video clips released in support of the album, “Different World” and “A Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg” below!
2 Iron Maiden – From Fear To Eternity (2011)
Their time has come! The classic gems of modern day Iron Maiden are finally being collected on a late era only, 2-disc compilation. Donning their hits from 1990 – 2010, Iron Maiden has released a 2-disc set of powerful songs tilted From Fear To Eternity. The title is a nice word play off two of Iron Maiden’s better known hits from the early 90s. From Fear To Eternity is a great tribute to latter day Iron Maiden songs that seem too often to be ignored.
Obviously the fans love the classic material. If you’re seeking a collection of Maiden’s 80s hits, Somewhere Back In Time was released in 2008 and can be easily found. However, if you’ve been wondering what the band has been up to lately, but haven’t picked up any of their newer albums, this is the collection for you.
Not since 2005’s Essential Iron Maiden set have this many post modern Maiden tunes been available in one collection. Combining classics like “Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter” with modern smashes like “These Colours Don’t Run” is excellent work. And while there are some key tracks that have been excluded (most notably “Futureal” from Virtual IX), the songs that are included pack quite the wallop.
Some of the key moments on this 2-disc collection of hits come from the past decade of Maiden greatness. “Coming Home,” “For The Greater Good Of God,” and “Paschendale” all show the brilliance that Maiden has recently crafted. If you haven’t given the newer music a chance, then this is a fantastic way to reintroduce yourself to the band. The last four Iron Maiden studio albums have all been brilliant and some of the best tracks from each of those discs are captured on From Fear To Eternity.
Another nice inclusion is the rare B-side “Man On The Edge” live with Bruce Dickinson singing lead vocals. I’m not sure what tour this was recorded during, but it was nice to hear Dickinson’s take on the song. However, the decision to not include any songs that Blaze Bayley sang on comes as quite a disappointment. His rendition of “Afraid To Shoot Strangers” is exceptional and it would have been nice to see a few songs with his vocals featured on this set. As it is though, the band opted to only include the Bruce Dickinson versions of all the tracks.
As happens with any greatest hits package, there are bound to be debates over the songs that were not included in the final cut. Both “Wildest Dreams” and “The Final Frontier” are surprising absences on From Fear To Eternity. Other missed opportunities include: “From Here To Eternity,” “The Angel And The Gambler,” and “Journeyman,” just to name a few.
Overall From Fear To Eternity is a great collection of repackaged material. It you own the entire Maiden catalog, feel free to skip over this set. If you’ve missed out on some of the latter material though, then this is the perfect album to catch you up.
U.S. fans can get free downloads of the songs, “The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg, and “The Wicker Man” at this link. Check it out!!

THE RELEASE OF A BRAND NEW COLLECTION FROM IRON MAIDEN
‘FROM FEAR TO ETERNITY: THE BEST OF 1990-2010’
UMe is proud to announce the release of From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010 in the U.S. on June 7, 2011. A double-CD set spanning twenty years, this follows the huge success of 2010’s studio album The Final Frontier which hit the number one spot in 28 countries around the world. It also became the band’s highest-charting album in the USA where Iron Maiden have just been awarded their first Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the song “El Dorado,” taken from The Final Frontier album, and which is included in this collection.
Iron Maiden’s current phenomenal global success has seen the band not only scale new-found heights aided by their unique method of touring, using a customized Boeing 757 – named Ed Force One by their fans – to transport band, crew and all their equipment around the world to many new places, but has meant their ever-expanding fan base now encompasses a brand new generation of metal lovers. From Fear To Eternity is a chance for these new fans to explore the group’s rich history, with the highlights of their last eight studio albums distilled into this handy collection, which follows 2009’s compilation of their earlier work from 1980-1990, the album Somewhere Back In Time.
Perennial favorites found on this album include songs also featured on Maiden’s current “The Final Frontier World Tour” set list; tracks such as “Fear Of The Dark,” “The Wicker Man,” “Blood Brothers” and “Dance Of Death” sit alongside recent classics “El Dorado” and the hauntingly evocative “When The Wild Wind Blows.” It also includes singles like “Holy Smoke” and “Be Quick Or Be Dead” together with more progressive thought-provoking album tracks like “Afraid To Shoot Strangers” and “For The Greater Good Of God.” This new collection charts the musical development of Britain’s most successful metal band as they have evolved their sound, producing longer, more complex songs, while gaining huge critical acclaim in the process. Featuring many of the epics for which the band has become renowned, it is accordingly released as a double-CD, but will retail for the price of a single album.

Iron Maiden’s 2011 “The Final Frontier Tour” is currently underway in an Around The World In 66 Days odyssey aboard Ed Force One, piloted by lead singer and qualified airline captain Bruce Dickinson. Having recently completed a series of shows in Australia and first-ever visits to Singapore, Indonesia and South Korea, they are now on their way to Mexico for concerts in Monterrey and Mexico City. After this they will play shows right across South America, including Argentina and Chile where both shows will be filmed for inclusion in a DVD to be released later this year.
Says bassist and founding member Steve Harris, “The tour has been amazing so far and we’ve been overwhelmed by the reaction from our fans everywhere. We are now on our way to Mexico and South America which the whole band is very excited about! We really enjoy playing there as the fans are so passionate and we always feel a huge responsibility to put on the best show we possibly can for them. For this tour we have a great set list, a brand new stage show, and of course Eddie! This leg of the tour ends with two shows in Florida in April, which is another favorite place for us to play, then we’ll be taking a short break before a series of summer headline festival and stadium shows in Europe, finishing up with our first U.K. arena tour in many years. It’s a great way to round off what has been an incredible time for Maiden these last few years. We are really looking forward to seeing all our loyal fans again and welcoming all the new ones! ”

4 Iron Maiden Wins A Grammy!
Iron Maiden won a Grammy award for ‘Best Metal Performance” for their song “El Dorado” off of their album, The Final Frontier! Iron Maiden was up against some hard rock and metal heavyweights including Megadeth, Slayer, KORN, and Lamb of God.
While I put as much credit into the Grammy’s as I do, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it is cool to see Iron Maiden get an award for the music in the United States, even if it wasn’t televised.
You can check out a live version of “El Dorado” below!
0 Top 10 Videos of 2010 – #1 – Iron Maiden – The Final Frontier (Director’s Cut)
It is not very often when you see a big budget video, like Iron Maiden’s The Final Frontier. I don’t know what the band spent on this clip, but in my opinion, this video is spectacular. It is a mini Sci fi epic, that features every metalhead’s favorite Mascot, Eddie! Check it out below!

4 Ryo Vie’s 10 Best Hard Rock Albums of 2010
It’s that time of the year again. It is time to determine the cream of the crop, the best of the best. It’s time to figure out what were the best hard rock albums for 2010. This year brought some amazing albums to the rock fan. From Buckcherry to Ozzy to the latest from Hinder, it was quite a year. Several exceptional albums were released that will not be mentioned on this list. Alas, it’s a top 10, so only 10 can make the cut. And now without any further blathering, let’s get to the top 10 hard rock albums of 2010.
10. Iron Maiden – The Final Frontier
Sneaking in at number 10 is the latest release from one of the greatest rock bands ever. Iron Maiden put out another solid record this past summer in the form of The Final Frontier. Powerful, progressive, and deep, The Final Frontier shows Maiden evolving even after all this time. Dickinson still has a great voice and the triple guitar attack sounds better than ever. Iron Maiden is still a meaningful band in rock and The Final Frontier shows that this band still has a lot to say.
9. Airbourne – No Guts, No Glory
The sophomore jinx certainly didn’t hit this band. Back with foot stomping, hand clapping, bar room rock, Airbourne released another fantastic CD. With fast rhythm, heavy beats, and a rock and roll attitude, No Guts, No Glory is one of the best in show for 2010. Airbourne delivered more music that is bound to be enjoyed by many a metal head. If you’ve been seeking that hard and heavy AC/DC sound that has your foot stomping the gas, look no further. Airbourne’s No Guts No Glory is where it’s at.
Brand new to the scene, Black Sunshine released their self titled debut in 2010. They are a band that should go far in the industry if they continue making music like this. A modern rock marvel,Black Sunshine is a fantastic debut album that any hard rock fan should own. With themes of rebellion, the desire to rise above, and not wanting to be a wage salve, Black Sunshine sends a message that rock fans can relate to.
7. The Scorpions – Sting In The Tail
The Scorpions released their final studio record this past summer and it’s quite the swan song. Packed with riffs that rock fans have loved over the years, Sting In The Tail is another amazing record from this storied band. Hard rock anthems, meaningful ballads, and guitar driven classics are performed with grace and style. The Scorpions are leaving us with one of the best records they’ve ever recorded. Sting In The Tail has the band going out on top
Formed from the remains of Buckcherry, Black Robot released their eponymous debut with much anticipation. Leaning on blues over metal, Black Robot is a hard rock record that shows the other bands how to make great music. With amazing songs like “Badass”, a magnificent cover of “Cocaine”, and the Black Sabbath-esque “25 Days Of Night”, Black Robot proved their worth. Seeped in a wall of sound that penetrates the eardrums with musical pleasure, this is a record worth adding to your collection. and leaves the fans wanting more.
Another self-titled debut enters the top 10. American Bang’s debut record is another blues filled fun fest. Drawing on their inner Black Crowes, American Bang stunned listeners this year with a quality record. A southern rock sound mixed with a modern flair is what makes American Bang such a memorable disc. If the band continues to churn out strong songs like those on their debut record, they are going to have a long career in rock and roll.
One of the most well known legends of rock released a record this past summer that was so powerful it renewed my faith in both him and heavy metal. Scream is a magnificent album that blends the perfect balance of heavy rock songs, slow ballads, and mid-tempo hits. Scream is shrouded in darkness and power. This is an album where metal fans can feel the power and sing along with their fists in the air. Ozzy released such a strong record that there was no question of should it end up on the best of list, the only question was where. Packed with monster rock songs and outstanding ballads, Scream is a fantastic record from start to finish.
On his first solo album, Slash brought in a plethora of singers to help him craft a record worthy of bearing the guitar god’s name. The right selection was certainly made because Slash is a record that is so grand it’s hard to believe that it took him this long to release a solo album. Spanning all sorts of styles and influences, Slash has something for everybody. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of scream along songs, soulful ballads, blues, heavy metal, or modern rock – they’re all on Slash. With great singers such as Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Iggy Pop, and Chris Cornell,Slash is one of those rare, must-own albums.
2. Hinder – All American Nightmare
Coming out late in the year and almost missing the party, Hinder had to release a monster record to be considered one of the best for 2010. Well, the band accomplished just that, and challenged strong for the best record of 2010. Alas, they fell just short. All American Nightmare is rock and roll done right. From heavy, foot stomping metal to sweet ballads, Hinder covers it all on All American Nightmare. This is the album that will push this band into the next stratosphere. I expect to hear a lot of Hinder on the radio in 2011 as All American Nightmare gets the attention it deserves.
Hitting me over the head like a baseball bat swung by Albert Pujols, Rock N Roll by Social Code is not only the best hard rock record I heard in 2010, it’s one of the best rock albums I’ve ever listened to. Packed with power, Rock N Roll is an album done right. This is what rock music should sound like. It’s also the way all albums should be crafted – no filler, just great music. 5 Iron Maiden – The Final Frontier (2010)
Iron Maiden is back with their follow-up record to 2006’s excellent, A Matter of Life and Death. How does the band’s latest opus The Final Frontier stack up? Read on!
The Final Frontier is one long album. It may only be ten songs, but it over seventy minutes of music crammed on to this CD. The opening track “Satellite 15….The Final Frontier” is pretty much two songs in one, and I don’t know why Iron Maiden didn’t break this up into two pieces. The first half provides a build up for the album, but is a little excessive in my opinion. The drums sound like they were recorded in a live setting, not in a studio. I could have done without the first half all together. The second half is more of a classic sounding Maiden tune. The second half is what you will hear as the radio edit single, “The Final Frontier:. While this song isn’t bad, I question why Iron Maiden chose to use this as the album opener. There is much stronger material to be found on The Final Frontier that would have made a better intro.
Chances are you have heard the first single, “El Dorado” by now, if not, you can get a free download of the song here! I have been listening to “El Dorado” for a few weeks now, and I must admit that I like it a lot. I keep finding myself turning the volume up each time this one comes on. An album just doesn’t seem like an Iron Maiden album without the galloping bass, and heavy riffs. This song has them both.
“Mother of Mercy” is one of the songs that I didn’t care for at first. After multiple listens, I have to now ask myself why. “Mother of Mercy” is a mid-tempo number that has all of the makings of a radio single. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a soldier at war. It is a well written and interesting tune, that will resonate with a lot of people.
“Isle of Avalon” is a monster of a tune on The Final Frontier. The song starts off a little slow, but builds into a truly classic tune albeit a very long one! “Isle of Avalon” might just be the most memorable moment on The Final Frontier.
Overall, casual fans will probably not be very happy with the lack of shorter, radio worthy tunes. Iron Maiden’s long time fans will probably love this, and appreciate the band trying to push the boundaries of their sound. The Final Frontier won’t be considered Iron Maiden’s best effort. Quite honestly, I don’t think this would make their top three. With that being said, it is still a far better disc than most of the stuff that is being released today. The Final Frontier is a grower of an album, and if you give this one multiple spins, you will grow to appreciate this disc as much as I have.

8 VIE’S VERSES – Defending Iron Maiden’s 2010 Setlist
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! SPOILER ALERT! If you do not know what Iron Maiden is playing on their current tour and you do not want to know, please do not read any further. However, if you already know about the setlist, or you don’t mind being spoiled, then read on.
There have been a lot of complaints across the Internet and amongst my inner circle of metal music addicts about the choice of songs for the upcoming Maiden tour. US fans are in an uproar. “How could they?!” they’ve screamed. “What the hell is up with this setlist?” Some fans have been ripping Maiden’s decision to shreds.
To that, I say, hogwash! This Maiden setlist is incredible, and their decision to go out on tour and embrace their newer material should be commended. Iron Maiden is a band that is ever evolving and constantly trying unique things. That’s how a band stays fresh and relevant.
In 2005, the band went on The Early Days tour where they played nothing but songs from their first 4 albums. In 2008 they went out on the Somewhere Back In Time tour playing nothing but their massive hits from the 80s. If the fans wanted nothing but classics, then that was the tour they had to see Maiden on.
Now, Iron Maiden is changing it up. They aren’t Poison. They aren’t going to give you the same setlist every tour. They actually have new music. They’ve actually recorded a few albums in the past 10 years. Why shouldn’t they embrace them by performing songs from those albums live? A true fan of the band is open to the new songs as well as the classics. Yes, the old hits are great, but there is nothing wrong with performing a lot of newer material as well. There are other Iron Maiden albums besides Number of the Beast.
The Wicker Man is an exceptional choice for an opener. It’s a solid, rocking, and powerful song. Personally, I think it’s up there with any classic Maiden track. These Colours Don’t Run is an incredible sing along from A Matter of Life and Death. It’s hard rocking and finds Bruce at his best running around on stage and whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
Blood Brothers live is astonishing. Don’t believe me? Watch Rock In Rio and you will see how mesmerizing that song is live. The same holds true for Brave New World. Both songs are amazing in concert.
Wildest Dreams? Totally rock and roll. This is another powerful and amazing Iron Maiden Song that is going to have the crowd roaring. Wildest Dreams could battle The Wicker Man for concert opener. It’s a short, compact, bursting song that knocks the listener out with abundant energy. And we all know how Bruce Dickinson can deliver as a frontman.
And for the fans crying “Boo Hoo! No one is going to like this concert!” the classics are there. They just happen to come at the end. Sometimes you have to wait to hear the best. You know, save the best for last. It will only make those classics even more powerful. By the time Fear of the Dark is played, the crowd is going to be so juiced in anticipation that they will explode. And when The Number of the Beast is played to open the encore, and the voice comes over the PA, well, it’s going to be an experience.
No matter what songs they choose to play, this is Iron Maiden. Still fronted by Bruce Dickinson. Still led by Steve Harris. The band is magnificent in concert regardless of which album they are featuring. As someone who saw them on their A Matter of Life and Death tour (where they played their brand new album in its entirety) I know firsthand how great they can be even if the material is new. This is going to be a fabulous concert for real Maiden fans. If you’re a fan of the band and you don’t like any songs from their last three albums, then I have news for you – you’re not a fan of the band, you’re a poser.

0 MAIDEN ANNOUNCE RELEASE DATE, ARTWORK AND TRACK LISTING FOR NEW ALBUM “THE FINAL FRONTIER” TOUR STARTS THIS WEEK
The release date for IRON MAIDEN’S new studio album THE FINAL FRONTIER is now confirmed for Monday 16th August. The new album pictured here features artwork illustrated by Melvyn Grant and, to mark the occasion, the band have made special arrangements for one new album track ‘EL DORADO’ to be made available Worldwide as a FREE digital download MP3 with immediate effect. Click here for your free download (US fans, please go here).
Singer Bruce Dickinson explains ‘El Dorado is a preview of the forthcoming studio album. As we will be including it in the set of our Final Frontier World Tour (which opens in Dallas On 9th June – full dates below) we thought it would be great to thank all our fans and get them into The Final Frontier mood by giving them this song up front of the tour and album release’
The band reunited with long-time Maiden producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in early 2010 at Compass Point Studios, Nassau to record the album and then moved to LA to finish the recording and do the mixing. Compass Point Studio is very familiar to the band, it was where they recorded the Piece Of Mind (’83), Powerslave (’84) and Somewhere In Time (’86) albums.
Bruce comments “The studio had the same vibe and it was EXACTLY as it had been in 1983, NOTHING had changed! Even down to the broken shutter in the corner…same carpet….everything… It was really quite spooky. But we felt very relaxed in such a familiar and well-trodden environment and I think this shows in the playing and the atmosphere of the album”
Thirty years on from their eponymous debut album in April 1980, The Final Frontier will be Maiden’s 15th studio album, making a remarkable average of a new album every two years for 30 years and totalling over 80 million album sales during this period.
The full tracklisting for the album (total running time 76:35) is:

Following this the tour will ship over to Europe starting in Dublin on July 30 and playing a few selected major festivals and stadiums , finishing in Valencia, Spain, on Aug 21 and including a concert in Transylvania.
Says bass player and founder member Steve Harris “We’re hugely excited about this tour. I think the fans will really like the brand new stage production and lights and we will also be debuting one of the new album tracks , El Dorado. Our Texan fans will be the very first people anywhere to hear it live, so it will be interesting to see their reaction and how it goes down with the crowd on the night! Eddie has changed a bit for this tour but is possibly the most outrageous one to date… I can’t say too much about him as don’t want to spoil the surprise but I guarantee he will scare the hell out of you!”

0 Iron Maiden Frontman Enjoys Being Airline Pilot
Bruce Dickinson likes to fly some heavy metal — about 240,000 pounds of it — when he’s not performing as Iron Maiden’s frontman.
On the band’s 2008-09 tour — showcased on the new DVD “Flight 666” which was voted best music documentary at the South by Southwest Festival — Dickinson pulled double duty as lead singer and chief pilot on the band’s customized Boeing 757, named “Ed Force One” with Maiden’s zombie mascot “Eddie” on the tail fin.
He’d wear his Astraeus Airlines uniform — white shirt with epaulets and pressed trousers — when flying between tour stops. Then, he’d leap around the stage in outlandish costumes — putting on a red 19th-century British army tunic while singing “The Trooper” or a feathered mask for “Powerslave.”
As the band’s “designated driver,” he’d refrain from late-night carousing, turning in early and avoiding any drinking to meet aviation industry regulations for mandatory rest periods and zero blood-alcohol content.
But Dickinson didn’t mind “being a party pooper” since the tour offered a chance to combine his passions for flying and rock music.
“The only caveat is that I was working much harder than everybody else,” said Dickinson. “But I never get tired of going to work because I just think that singing with Iron Maiden and flying a jet airliner are the two best jobs in the world.”
The British heavy metal band wrapped up its tour in early April after performing before nearly 2 million fans in 38 countries. Maiden’s other members — founder-bassist Steve Harris, drummer Nicko McBrain, and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers — took a monthslong break with plans to begin work later this year on a new album due out in 2010.
But Dickinson quickly returned to his day job as a commercial airline captain for Astraeus, which leases planes to other airlines. He’s been making regular runs to such far-flung locales as Kyrgyzstan, Sierra Leone and Djibouti.
It’s not as if the 51-year-old Dickinson needs his pilot’s salary. Iron Maiden remains one of the most enduring and successful heavy metal bands with record sales of more than 70 million since their 1980 debut album.
But Dickinson finds that being in the cockpit offers a welcome respite from the frenzied life of a touring rock star.
“Music always follows you around. especially when you’re on tour … and I think that comes out on the DVD,” said Dickinson, speaking by telephone from his London home. “There’s no escaping the fury that surrounds Iron Maiden in these places and we are essentially prisoners in our hotel rooms unless we want to go out and cause a riot. …
“But as a pilot one of the nice things is that you get to shut the door,” he said with a laugh. “It’s just you, the airplane and the sky and going where you’re going and it’s quite pleasant. It’s quite a nice little Zen moment.”
Astraeus Chief Executive Mario Fulgoni credits Dickinson for “possessing both a high degree of professionalism and intense enthusiasm for flying.”
“His rock star status in no way detracts from his performance as an airline captain,” Fulgoni said.
Dickinson said his passengers, who recently included the president of Sierra Leone, rarely make the connection with his rock star persona. It’s hard to imagine that the pilot who reassuringly talks about a little turbulence is the singer whose screaming on songs like “Bring Your Daughter … to the Slaughter” earned him the nickname “The Air-Raid Siren.”
Dickinson’s passion for aviation goes back to childhood. His godfather and uncle were engineers in the Royal Air Force, and he’d attend air shows and build model airplanes. But Dickinson became enamored with rock as a teenager and began singing with the first wave of British metal bands in the late ’70s, eventually joining Iron Maiden in 1981.
Dickinson — who had left Maiden in 1993 to pursue a solo career before rejoining the band in 1999 — began taking flying lessons in the early ’90s while on a family vacation in Florida, going on to earn his private pilot’s license and a license to fly commercial jets.
Dickinson landed a pilot’s job with British World Airlines in 2000, and when it folded after 9/11, signed on with the newly formed Astraeus. He continued to fly even though Maiden has enjoyed a resurgence, releasing new albums such as “A Matter of Life and Death” (2006) and putting their old hits on video games like “Rock Band” that have attracted a new generation of fans. On their latest tour, Maiden revisited highlights from their ’80s albums so their young fans could hear them performed live.
“We love what we do and we’ve never compromised with the demands of media industry or musical fashion,” Dickinson said.
Dickinson does see a link in the precise teamwork required to get a plane to its destination or to pull off an intricately staged rock show.
“Obviously as a pilot … everything seems to be in control,” said Dickinson. “But people look at rock musicians and think they’re wild and crazy and it’s all out of control up there. … But you have to be very disciplined to do what we do in Iron Maiden … It just looks like it’s crazy.”

0 ‘IRON MAIDEN: FLIGHT 666’ Available in the USA June 9 on Blu-ray, 2-DVD Set and Live Soundtrack Album
Can you handle 45 days on the road on the most adventurous rock tour ever?
On Tuesday, April 21, 2009 the award winning Film FLIGHT 666 will be screened in more than 450 special digital movie theatres in 42 Countries!
Advance reviews and phenomenal media and fan reaction from private screenings of the first ever full length feature film from Brit award winners IRON MAIDEN have prompted Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) to rush release the film and soundtrack for home-viewing enjoyment.
FLIGHT 666 will be released on extended Blu-ray and DVD formats, alongside a double-CD soundtrack album and limited edition double-vinyl picture disc which will be available Tuesday, June 9, via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) in the USA.
Filmed digitally in Hi Def to provide pristine picture quality, FLIGHT 666 was directed by Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen with the award-winning Banger Productions team (“Metal; A Headbanger’s Story” and “Global Metal”) who take you right inside the Maiden family with almost total access to the band, something which Maiden has never allowed before. The stunning 5.1 soundtrack was specially mixed by Maiden producer Kevin Shirley to complement the picture quality as an ultimate attack on your senses.
FLIGHT 666 documents the first leg of Maiden’s legendary SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR which took them 50,000 miles round the planet playing 23 concerts on five continents in just 45 days. One of the stars of the movie is the band’s customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, which carried the band, all their crew and 12 tons of stage equipment and was piloted by Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a fully qualified and active Airline Captain with Astraeus Airlines.
Taking you on a visual global tour from Mumbai to Sydney, Tokyo to L.A., Mexico City to Costa Rica, Bogota to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago to New York and Toronto and places in-between, you travel with the band and crew on the plane, to and from shows, in the bar and during leisure time, while experiencing the exhaustion and fan pandemonium that comes with such a mission.
FLIGHT 666 (named after the official airways flight call) reveals how the idea for this unique tour actually came about and how complex planning turned it into a reality. The documentary also contains some of the most spectacular live footage yet seen of the band, filmed in all of those locations and beyond. If you have ever wanted to see the inside story of a truly unique and worldwide tour, taking you to places you never imagined, Maiden fan or not, this is your opportunity.
As a very special bonus for the fans, Maiden has included a second disc of the entire set from the 2008 segment of this tour with the DVD (and long-play Blu-ray). Sixteen songs from sixteen different cities in eleven countries around the world, for the first time ever encompassing such varied places and cultures in one concert. (See full track listing below). UMe will release a special souvenir Limited Edition Deluxe DVD with 26-page booklet, after which it will be available as a standard double DVD version. The soundtrack audio version of the live show will be available on a double CD, as a limited edition vinyl set with two picture discs, and a digital download especially for those fans who do not have DVD access or just want to enjoy the show as a great live album. All are lavishly packaged as an ultimate memento of a tour to remember!
To recognize the global phenomenon of Maiden, the Blu-ray/DVD are also subtitled in Hindi, Japanese, Dutch, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, Portuguese and Swedish.
Comments band manager Rod Smallwood; “It’s been a mammoth undertaking. From the first twinkle in Bruce’s eye it’s taken about three years to put band, crew and equipment in a giant flying ‘splitter bus’, to go through all the long and tiresome prep and safety regulations and planning, to the actual filming and of the tour itself, through to post production and right up to putting together all these items in the very best quality possible for our fans.”
“It’s great that with MAIDEN DAY on Tuesday, April 21, we can give our fans the opportunity of seeing this digitally on big screen in Hi Def with full-on 5.1 sound experience with other fans around them. It was also very rewarding that it has won the prestigious SXSW Film Festival Award for Best Music Documentary.”
“The ‘Somewhere Back in Time Tour’ reached almost 2 million fans in 39 countries and, if there is one thing I know from managing Maiden all these years, it’s that our fans are not happy to wait too long, so we are delighted that UMe is rush-releasing the DVD. This closes the chapter on an absolutely brilliant experience delving into the past for the band, myself and my team, the crew and hopefully all of you fans out there. After the summer and some deserved time off, we will concentrate on the ‘new’ with the band starting to put together material for a brand new studio album due sometime later in 2010. And, of course, after that we will look forward to seeing all our fans again!!”
