0 JANUS Tour Continues With New Headlining Shows And Dates With Cavo As “Stains” Continues To Soak Up The Active Rock Charts

  • March 21, 2012

Now that JANUS’ hugely successful tour with Chevelle and Middle Class Rut has come to an end, they’ll head right back out on the road for a handful of headlining shows before joining up with Cavo for a month-long trek.  It all kicks off with a hometown show in Chicago at the Cubby Bear on March 28.  Dates with Cavo begin April 7.

JANUS—singer David Scotney, guitarist Mike Tyranski, bassist Alan Quitman and drummer Johnny Salazar—is touring in support of their highly anticipated sophomore album, NOX AERIS, due out March 27 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).  The album’s first single, “Stains,” has reached the Top 20 on Billboard’s “Active Rock” chart after garnering huge spins on such radio stations as WIIL (Chicago), KPNT (St. Louis), WBUZ (Nashville), WJJO (Madison), WWBN (Flint), KHTQ (Spokane), SiriusXM’s “Octane” and “Hard Drive XL.”

As Outburn magazine recently praised the album (in a 9 out of 10 review):  “NOX AERIS is a visceral sonic document of adventure and the transformation that can result…On the surface an emotionally charged blend of Deftones and Tool, NOX AERIS weaves a complex web of ethereal noise.  Passages of thick, meat-grinding distortion culminate in Meshuggah style spasms and interlock beautifully with an atmospheric blanket of restrained synths…The catchiness of NOX AERIS is deceptive in masking the album’s unpredictable song structures, which speaks to Janus’ collective growth as writers.  Theirs is a nuanced, understated, and powerful heaviness.”

0 JANUS RETURNS WITH ‘NOX AERIS’ ALBUM, DUE OUT MARCH 27 ON REALID RECORDS/ILG; TOUR WITH CHEVELLE AND MIDDLE CLASS RUT STARTS FEBRUARY 24

  • January 19, 2012

JANUS—singer David Scotney, guitarist Mike Tyranski, bassist Alan Quitman and drummer Johnny Salazar—experienced great success with their 2009 debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN, but the band’s new album, NOX AERIS, reveals how far they’ve come.

That musical revelation is the self-produced NOX AERIS, which is due out March 27 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).  The first single, “Stains,” is already getting spins at WIIL (Chicago), KPNT (St. Louis), WBUZ (Nashville), WJJO (Madison), WWBN (Flint), KHTQ (Spokane), as well as SiriusXM’s “Octane” and “Hard Drive XL.”  Early feedback includes Zigz at WBUZ (Nashville), who says, “If ‘Stains’ is a taste of things to come… then 2012 is going to be a great year for Janus.  They’ve hit on a new level with ‘Stains’… this track is righteous.”
“Stains” explores what can happen when you don’t follow your heart, the marks left on your spirit when you become someone you’re not.  “It embodies what I was trying to say on the record,” says singer David Scotney, “it’s a dark point of view, but represents a cathartic process of self-healing.”
In 2012 touring news, the band’s first round of tour dates will be with Chevelle and Middle Class Rut starting February 24 in Grand Rapids, MI.  Additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
The record’s title, which is Latin for “night air,” comes from the 14th Century, a period where a third of the European population was killed off by the plague.  Then, people believed going outdoors at night would cause them to succumb to the Black Death.  While writing NOX AERIS, JANUS found this idea to be an apt metaphor for their own journey, preconceived notions of their own being flipped around as they became a bigger, more established band since the release of RED RIGHT RETURN.  NOX AERIS reveals who JANUS is and what they’ve gone through.
RED RIGHT RETURN came out in September 2009 on REALID Records and spawned the Top 10 Active Rock hit, “Eyesore.”  They spent months on the road touring with Chevelle, Sick Puppies, Sevendust, Pop Evil, Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, and Alice In Chains.  JANUS also sold-out numerous headlining shows of their own, appeared on MTV’s “Headbangers Ball” and performed in the biggest rock festivals in the U.S., including Rock On The Range.  Absolutepunk.net raved about the album:  “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm.  JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band.  If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.”  While Away-team.com hailed in a 9 out of 10 album review:  “Brilliant on many levels and impeccably engineered and produced to perfection.”

JANUS ADDS DATES WITH FRAMING HANLEY AND THE VEER UNION

TO THEIR ONGOING U.S. TOUR

AS THEY PREPARE TO RELEASE

‘RED RIGHT RETURN’ SEPTEMBER 22 ON REALID RECORDS

JANUS hit the road last month to get the buzz started about the September 22 release of their debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN (REALID Records, through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group), which will keep them on the road throughout the remainder of 2009.  Now comes word that new dates for the Chicago band—with Framing Hanley and The Veer Union–have been added to their itinerary, which will last from October 8 through October 27.

The album’s first single, “Eyesore,” is currently spinning on over 20 Rock radio stations nationwide, including KBPI/Denver, KQRC/Kansas City, WJJO/Madison, KXFX/Santa Rosa and KISW/Seattle, and is most requested on Q101/Chicago, KPNT/St. Louis and WWBN/Flint.  A video for the track—directed by Noah Shulman (Sleepless City Productions)–has over a half a million views this summer and can now be seen on the band’s Myspace page (www.myspace.com/janus).

In online news, JANUS has been selected as the “Rock Artist To Watch” on iheartradio.com for the month of September.  The band’s page can be found at http://www.iheartradio.com/new2/featured/f/2288.

RED RIGHT RETURN is a collection of ten seamlessly flowing tracks that showcase the band’s ability to bring the Rock world an intelligent fresh sound. JANUS’ debut harkens back to the days when albums were written as a total piece of work, as opposed to a group of single songs.  The Chicago natives recorded, produced, created all the themes, digital presence, and artwork on their own.  Lyrically, the songs have very strong universal underpinnings to real life experiences.  While they tell a particular story, the end result is left open to interpretation and the listener is free to draw their own conclusions.

In an early review of RED RIGHT RETURN, Absolutepunk.net raved:  “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm.  JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band.  If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.”  The Wildy’s World blog calls it “…a brilliant Rock-based soundscape…” and Blogcritics.org hails it as a “…diamond in the rough.”

JANUS–David Scotney (vocals), Johnny Salazar (percussion), Alan Quitman (bass), Mike Tyranski (guitar/programming)–will be releasing their debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN, September 22 on REALID Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).

The album’s first single, “Eyesore,” has already been added to Rock radio stations nationwide including Q101/Chicago, WJJO/Madison, WWBN/Flint, KXFX/Santa Rosa, and KISW/Seattle.  A video for the track—directed by Noah Shulman (Sleepless City Productions)–will make its world premiere on AOL’s “Noisecreep” (www.noisecreep.com) on Thursday, July 30.

JANUS’ music was previously featured on such TV shows as MTV’s “Road Rules,” “The Real World,” and “Bad Girls Club” and NBC’s “The Science of Love.”

JANUS uses a broad range of dynamics and instruments not often used in the Rock world (violins, cellos, timpani drums, a full choir, air raid sirens and a glockenspiel) to produce a sound of melodic, ethereal backdrops grounded in aggressive, heavy, rhythms.

In an early review of RED RIGHT RETURN, Absolutepunk.net raved:  “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm.  JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band.

JANUS will be on the road non-stop throughout the remainder of 2009, and well into 2010, to promote RED LIGHT RETURN.  The first batch of dates includes shows with Sevendust and Chevelle, as well as various radio stations festival appearances.  Check them out at any of the following shows:

DATE CITY                             VENUE

Wed 8/12                      Chicago, IL                    Angels and Kings

Thu 8/20                        Libertyville, IL                 Austin’s Fuel Room (with Sevendust)

Sun 8/23                       St. Louis, MO                KPNT Pointfest

Thu 9/3                         Chicago, IL                    House of Blues
