0 LYNCH MOB ANNOUNCES WYNTER 2014 WEST COAST TOUR; THADEUS GONZALEZ (EX-ELECTRIC SISTER) JOINS AS VOCALIST
Lynch Mob will rock the west coast in February, delivering classic favorites and tracks from the latest record while introducing a new vocalist for the diversely-pedigreed band.
For twelve years with Dokken, George Lynch was able to develop a groundbreaking brand of guitar virtuoso that would also earn a Grammy nomination. In the early 1990s, Lynch launched his own project, Lynch Mob, which harnessed the talent of rock’s best players and released several well-received records, from 1990s WICKED SENSATION to the most recent UNPLUGGED. Tracks like “Wicked Sensation,” “River of Love” and “Tangled in the Web” have solidified George Lynch’s position on Guitar World’s list of Greatest Guitarists Of All Time. Live, Lynch Mob is described as desert- infused blues-based rock with a penchant for extended improvising, harkening back to the glorious jam days of the late 60’s and early 70’s.
“…a guitar hero by anyone’s standards.” Legendary Rock Interviews
“…one of the most gifted musicians on the planet…” Rock Music Star
Lynch’s current work also includes the film “Shadow Nation,” which explores a hybrid way of life, merging modern society with the ancient practices of people who have lived in harmony with the land for thousands of years; native American Indians. The film reveals its message through the journey of a group of renowned musical artists as they share their rock music on a road trip through Indian reservations of the southwest. http://shadowtrainmovie.com/synopsis/ He has also teamed with Arcane Inc. to create a new signature series of Mr. Scary guitar pickups http://mrscaryguitars.com/pickups/.
The current iteration of Lynch Mob is an unusual combination of rock backgrounds. Bassist Kevin Baldes is an original member of the Orange County alternative rock band Lit. Lit’s platinum album A PLACE IN THE SUN spawned three top ten hits including “My Own Worst Enemy.” He’s also played with Sugarcult, MEST and Good Man Down. Jimmy D’Anda is on drums. With L.A. based rock band BulletBoys and its hit “Smooth Up In Ya,” he earned a Gold album and toured the world with rock’s biggest acts.
Being introduced on this tour is new vocalist Thadeus Gonzalez. With Oakland-based Electric Sister, Tad enjoyed critical acclaim from not only the release of THE LOST ART OF ROCK & ROLL, but also supporting gigs with KISS/Motley Crue, Slash, Black Label Society, and Danko Jones. He’s been called “a frontman to watch” and “a definitive rock ‘n’ roll voice.”
Confirmed dates for the Lynch Mob Wynter 2014 tour include:

2/14 Whisky A Go Go Hollywood CA

2 Lynch Mob At the M3 Rock Festival
What can I say about George Lynch that hasn’t been said before? I am a huge fan, and it is always a big thrill for me to see him play live. The last time I saw Lynch Mob was in Columbus, Ohio in the summer of 2011. The band had a different line up at the time, and quite frankly, didn’t give the best of performances. This was not the case at M3!
At the M3 Rock Festival, Oni Logan was back in the band, along with Robbie Crane on bass and Scott Coogan on drums. I don’t know
what it is, but when Oni is singing with George, Lynch Mob can do no wrong in my opinion. Lynch was on fire at M3, and Oni Logan’s vocals were spot on perfect. Robbie Crane has been a great addition to the band since joining them last year. He does a great job on bass, and helps out with the background vocals too. Scott Coogan didn’t miss a beat.
Most of the songs in the set were from the Lynch Mob debut album. The set list consisted of “She’s Evil But She’s Mine”, “River of Love”
“Mr. Scary”, “Where Do You Sleep at Night?”, “Sweet Sister Mercy” and “Wicked Sensation”.
Lynch Mob was one of the best two acts on the side stage at M3 in 2012. I hope they return, and hopefully will get a chance to play a longer
set on the main stage next year.
Check out a couple of clips and our photo gallery below!
2 Vie’s Verses – Reflections on M3 2012 – Part Three: The Pleasant Surprises
The Pleasant Surprises
Every year when I attend the M3 music festival, there is always one or two unexpected surprises, and this year was no exception. Last year the biggest and best surprise to me was the performance given by Pretty Boy Floyd. It turned me into a huge fan of the band and has me seeking them out in concert whenever I can. The 2012 incarnation of M3 came with its own pleasant surprises that made me a very happy metal head.
NIGHT RANGER
As part of the Friday night KIX-off party, M3 recruited the likes of Night Ranger to take the stage just before Kix would headline the show. I had never seen Night Ranger perform live before, so I was curious. I also didn’t expect much from them. Their new album wasn’t the greatest and while I loved their early material, I hadn’t listened to much Night Ranger since 1992. I figured they would put on a decent set and I would sing along to some nostalgic songs from my yesteryears.
Holy heck was I wrong! Night Ranger gave one of the best performances of the entire festival. The only band that I think edged them out was Stryper. Night Ranger came out onstage filled with a ton of energy. Jack Blades was running around like a mad-man trading jabs with Kelly Keagy and having the time of his life. Keagy’s drums were set in a unique fashion as well. They were arranged to sit stage left, facing the band as opposed to facing the audience. Where the drums would normally be centered was a ramp that the guitarists used to their advantage, running around and having fun.
Night Ranger was flat out awesome in concert. In addition to playing their best known hits such as Sentimental Street, Don’t Tell Me You Love Me, You Can Still Rock In America, and Sister Christian, Night Ranger also gave a terrific performance of the Damn Yankees classic, High Enough. Jack Blades mentioned how Night Ranger had taken that song and really made it their own. It showed in their performance, because Night Ranger’s version of High Enough was even better than the Damn Yankees version that I recall.
This exceptional M3 surprise left me wanting even more Night Ranger. I can guarantee that if Night Ranger goes on tour and stops anywhere near my town, I will definitely be attending that show.
LOUDNESS
I will be totally honest here. Prior to last Saturday, I knew almost nothing about Loudness. I knew that they were a Japanese glam metal band. I think I may have heard one of their songs back in the day. Other than that, I knew nothing. So, it was a great surprise to see them give such an amazing performance on the second stage. And while I did not know any of the songs that they performed, it didn’t matter. The band’s stage presence and professionalism, combined with the crowd reaction, was enough to make seeing Loudness live a tremendous experience.
Lead vocalist Minoru Niihara has an incredible voice and sings in perfect English. Guitarist Akira Takasaki is a true showman, playing blistering guitar solos and really cutting loose during his performance. Takasaki was so much fun to watch that it wouldn’t have mattered if his guitar playing was subpar. However, his playing was as amazing as his stage presence. Loudness was definitely one of the highlights of the day for me.
And I have to give props and credit to Hard Rock Hideout’s esteemed owner/editor Rob Rockitt. He told me that Loudness was going to put on one hell of a show. He was right.
LYNCH MOB
Yes, I definitely had high expectations for Lynch Mob. Their last album (Smoke & Mirrors) was fantastic and with Oni Logan fronting the band, Lynch Mob was one of the acts that I could not miss during this year’s M3. I actually left Warrant’s set early to get as close to the second stage as I could for Lynch Mob. It was certainly one of the best decisions that I made.
George Lynch was in fantastic form and his guitar playing sounded better than ever. Add in the fact that this was my first time seeing Lynch Mob live and it’s easy to guess that I was a really happy metal head. Oni Logan’s voice was in fine shape, still hitting the notes just right and putting the perfect amount of inflections where needed.
The Lynch Mob performance consisted mostly of songs from their debut album, Wicked Sensation, with one song form Smoke & Mirrors thrown in. George Lynch also got a solo spotlight, giving a rousing rendition of Mr. Scary. It sounded as good as it does on the album, and it was a real treat to see him perform it live. Overall, the Lynch Mob set made me yearn to see the band at a full length concert. I can only hope that they have plans to hit New Jersey as a headliner sometime in the near future.
CHEESE STEAKS
All right, this isn’t really a surprise. Every year I eat the cheese steaks at the Merriweather Post Pavilion and every year they taste better than the year before. This year’s cheese steak was the best yet.
Ahhh, another year of M3 has come and gone. I am already starting to save for next year, which I hope will be even bigger and better than ever.

0 DEADLINE MUSIC TO RELEASE SPECIAL LYNCH MOB A/V COLLECTION
On June 19, Deadline Music/Cleopatra Records will release a special 3-disc audio/video deluxe collection of Lynch Mob’s REvolution.
The set features the full-length studio album Revolution with killer, supercharged renditions of classic Dokken/Lynch Mob tracks such as “Tooth And Nail,” “Breaking The Chains,” “Wicked Sensation,” and more. It also includes professionally filmed live performances recorded during the 2005 REvolution Tour, mixed in 5.1 surround sound.
George “Mr. Scary” Lynch cemented his legendary role in the heavy music community in the early 1980s when he joined forces with Don Dokken. For almost a decade with Dokken, Lynch was able to develop a groundbreaking brand of guitar virtuoso that would also earn a Grammy nomination. In the early 1990s, Lynch launched his own project, Lynch Mob, which released several well-received records in between Lynch’s eclectic other solo works.
But in 2003, the Mob reassembled to rework Dokken and Lynch Mob material. The result was a decidedly darker, heavier, and very experimental reinvention that fans of all iterations of George Lynch appreciated. They took it on the road for a series of fierce concerts that left audiences jaw-dropped at the band’s creative live presentation
“This is a fine slab of metal.” Metal-Reviews
“…some of the heaviest sounding tracks that I have ever heard George Lynch play on.”
Hard Rock Hideout
“The high-octane result is a straight-ahead hard-rock album that manages to sound
neither dated nor contrived.” Sea of Tranquility
Along with the legendary George Lynch on guitar, this iteration of Lynch Mob features the return of Robert Mason on vocals after nearly a decade absence, original bassist Anthony Esposito, and Michael Frowein on drums.
REvolution will be available at record stores and online, MSRP $16.98.

1 Five Great Reasons to Attend the M3 Rock Festival This Week – Reason # 3 – Lynch Mob
It isn’t very often when you get to see Lynch Mob with Oni Logan on vocals. Oni’s relationship with George Lynch seems to be tumultuous at best. I have seen Lynch Mob with and without Oni Logan, and there is no comparison. As awesome as George Lynch is, the band is 100% better with Oni on vocals. At the M3 Rock Festival, Oni Logan will be fronting Lynch Mob. You won’t want to miss this!
1 Set Times Announced for the M3 Rock Festival
The set times have been announced for the 4th Annual M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, MD. Check below for bands and start times. Good Tickets are still available for the M3 Rock Festival at this link.
8 Lynch Mob / Mr. Big – Columbus, Ohio – 8/13/11 – Review
Guitarmaggedon came to the Alrosa Villa Saturday Night. It isn’t very often when you get the chance to see two bands in the same night that have guitarists the caliber of George Lynch, Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert. I have been fortunate enough to see both bands earlier this year, but it is this Mr. Big show I will remember best.
A couple of local bands Karma 10, and Dirty Side Down opened this show, and I have to give Kudos to both of those bands. Karma 10 played some originals as well as covers. This was the first show for Karma 10’s new guitarist Richie Baier. Baier was pretty damn good, and showed a lot of chemistry with the band for being his first show.
Dirty Side Down was up next, and they did a stellar job at getting the crowd revved up for Lynch Mob and Mr. Big. Singer Dan Compton looked like a cross between Disburbed’s David Draiman and Rob Halford from Judas Priest. He had a pretty impressive vocal range, and sang quite a few songs that most bands would dare touch, including Queensryche’s “Queen of the Reich”, Iron Maiden’s “Where Eagles Dare” and RATT’s “The Morning After”. I am usually not big on cover bands, but I would go see Dirty Side Down again in a heartbeat. They were really good.
The same can not be said for Lynch Mob unfortunately. It was an off night for Mr. Lynch and company. The last time I saw Lynch Mob back in January, the band had Oni Logan, and “Wild” Mick Brown drumming. It has been well reported that Oni Logan bailed on the tour at the last minute, and former Lynch Mob singer Chaz West rejoined the band on short notice. Chaz West was not the problem this evening. Chaz sounded pretty good for the most part. It seemed that George, and Lynch Mob’s new drummer, Ray? Brown (Mick’s brother) could not get in sync. George had to cut his infamous tune “Mr. Scary” short. He looked pretty frustrated. Before long, the band packed it up and called it a day. They played for 35 – 40 minutes tops. It seems like to me, the band needed to rehearse a couple of times with the new drummer before playing live. This appearance came across as amateurish at best. I was pretty disappointed with their performance overall. This is the only show, that Lynch Mob was playing with Mr. Big, and lucky for them, Mr. Big made EVERYONE forget about Lynch Mob’s set.
Earlier this year, before this tour was announced, Mr. Big made their only U.S. appearance at the M3 Rock Festival. To me, they were one of the best bands at M3, but they were far better at the Alrosa Villa Saturday night. You see, when Mr. Big plays at a big music festival, their set is condensed, and you don’t get a real Mr. Big show. Saturday night, Mr. Big played for over two hours, and played every Mr. Big tune you would want to hear, and a few you wouldn’t expect. They also played a few songs off of their new album What If…. including “American Beauty” and “Undertow” which sounded great live, and was met with a pretty good reception to the sold out crowd. Both Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan had their chances to shine in this show with cool solos. Paul Gilbert’s guitar solo was easily the best I have seen in 2011. I think he is the first guitarist I have seen to play the guitar with his mouth. He is one incredible musician. Billy’s bass solo was pretty awesome as well. Eric Martin never gets enough credit being stuck between Sheehan and Gilbert, but he was awesome last night. He interacted with the crowd quite a bit, and got a kick out of his on stage antics. His vocals were perfect Saturday Night.
The encore featured two killer Mr. Big tunes “To Be With You”, and “Colorado Bulldog”. The band also did an extremely cool version of Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” where the band changed instruments. Paul Gilbert was playing the drums, Eric Martin lead guitar, Pat Torpey was playing bass, and Billy Sheehan was signing. Mid song, they changed it up again. Eric Martin took over on bass, Pat took over on vocals, and Billy Sheehan was playing lead guitar. I haven’t ever seen an entire band change instruments like this during a show. It was fun and extremely impressive to see. The show closed out with a killer version of the Talas tune “Shyboy”.
If you get a chance to see Mr. Big Live on this tour, you really ought to do so. They put on a whale of a performance, and was easily one of the best shows I have seen in 2011. You can check their tour dates at this link. Check out our photo gallery below!

6 LYNCH MOB Singer Oni Logan Quits Tour
The re-formed LYNCH MOB, featuring George Lynch (ex-DOKKEN), was set to begin their summer US tour on Friday, July 29th in Houston, TX. It was a surprise to the Texas crowd when the dynamic band showed up without singer Oni Logan who decided to sit this tour out at home. Chaz West of Bonham will now be replacing Logon on this tour.
A statement from the band reads: “Oni let the band and our fans down. He quit the band at 5:30 am before our 7:30 am scheduled flight. He left us high and dry and did not fulfill his commitment. We are saddened and disappointed – but as a band, we are committed to honoring our obligations.”
Lynch also stated that he plans on emulating the vocals with his guitar, if necessary!
1 Willie Basse / Lynch Mob Indianapolis Review
Lynch Mob invaded the Rock House in Indianapolis on Thursday, January 27th. Several local bands opened the show including Shadowbox, Caden’s Cry, Smoke Ring. All of the local bands were good, but I was anxiously awaiting to see George Lynch and Company. I haven’t seen Lynch Mob play live since 1991!!
Willie Basse took the stage, and most people from what I could tell were surprised. Not too many people knew about Willie Basse on this bill. It wasn’t well publicized (except for at Hard Rock Hideout). From Facebook, to the Indianapolis Star, no one mentioned Willie Basse, and this is a shame, because Willie Basse’s band is really good. The reason I knew about this show was from the Press Release that I received from Willie Basse, and I am grateful.
Willie Basse’s band was the true surprise of the night. Willie Basse’s (vocals and bass) band featured Troy Patrick Farrell (White Lion) on drums and new comer Patrick Abbate (Kee Marcello and Patrick Abbate band). Before this night, I have never heard of Patrick Abbate before, but he got my attention in a hurry. This Italian axeslinger plays in a style that would do Yngwie Malmsteen proud. Yes, he really is that good. His guitar acrobatics quickly got the attention of everyone at the Rockhouse. Needless to say, Willie Basse and company won the fans over quickly. The band did songs off the Willie Basse CD, “The Money Grind”. A Black Sheep tune, and “Breakway”, Basse’s new single which features George Lynch and James Kottak. “Breakway” is a very kick ass tune. If you haven’t checked it out yet. You can get it here!! I really like Basse’s vocals, and his band is super tight. If you haven’t check him out yet, visit WillieBassse.com. If you would like more information on Abbate, I highly recommend you check out his website at www.bandaner.com.
Lynch Mob was late, and took the stage after midnight. It was a long time of waiting for George, and company, but man oh man was it worth it. Lynch Mob sounded great all night. Oni Logan was in fine form all night. I can’t tell you how good it was to see “Wild” Mick Brown on the drums again. Robbie Crane rounded out the Lynch Mob lineup on bass, and did a fine job, and sang a lot of back up vocals as well. He is a pretty good addition to Lynch Mob in My opinion. If Ratt doesn’t reunite, George needs to keep Robby Crane on board.
The real star of the band, Mr. Furious George Lynch played fantastic, although I have to say, George looked pretty rough this night. His playing is all that really mattered to me though. The band traveled from St. Paul, Minnesota to Indianapolis, so they were in their bus all day, so I am sure they were pretty wiped by the time they got to Indy. Even though they were late, they sounded great. George Lynch busted out a plethora of guitars including my favorite, Mr. Scary.
Lynch Mob”s set included the songs, “She’s Evil”, “River of Love”, “Hell Child”, “21st Century Man”, “Madly Backwards”, “Into the Fire”, “Where Do You Sleep”, “Mr. Scary”, “Rain”, “All I Want”, “Street Fighting Man”, “Music Master”, Tooth N’ Nail”, and “Wicked”.
Overall, it was a great night of rock. I can’t wait to see Lynch Mob play again! Hopefully, it won’t be another 20 years before I get to see them play live!

1 Bassist JAMES LOMENZO Joins LYNCH MOB For The Summer Tour and Europe
James Lomenzo (Megadeth, Black Label Society) joins Lynch Mob for their summer tour in support of their current release “Smoke and Mirrors” on Frontiers Records. The band line-up for this tour consists of George Lynch (shred master), Oni Logan (vox),and Brian Tichy (time-keeper).
After seventeen long years singer Oni Logan and guitar wizard George Lynch found their way back together and again show their amazing abilities in some killer new Hard Rock songs.” I would say this new record “Smoke and Mirrors”, is the record we should have put out as a follow up to “Wicked Sensation”…better late than never I guess…”, says Lynch presenting the new record.
Lynch Mob was formed by George Lynch, one of the few genuine guitar heroes of substance to emerge from the Los Angeles scene, after DOKKEN split up in 1989. The band’s first album” Wicked Sensation” went on to sell over 500,000 units in the US and featured the talents of singer
Oni Logan, Anthony Esposito on bass and another former DOKKEN member Mick Brown on drums. After a tour in support of Queensryche, Logan opted out, with Robert Mason taking his place on the follow up self titled release. However Lynch and Brown eventually returned to Dokken releasing 2 studio albums until he left again in late 1997 putting together a several new incarnations of Lynch Mob and exploring new sounds with different projects.

2 Ryo Vie’s Top 10 of 2009
This week at Hard Rock Hideout we give you not one, but three Top 10 lists for 2009. We will post one each day this week, as well as our top 10 of the decade later this week. Ryo Vie joined HRH’s merry team of rockers this year, and has reviewed some fantastic music for us. Today I give you Ryo’s Top 10 of 2009.
So here we are – at the close of another year. Rob has graciously asked me to put together my top 10 releases for 2009 and I was more than happy to comply. The rock and roll fan got a TON of great music released this year, from Bon Jovi to Winger to Lynch Mob, it was a great year to be into hard rock. However, not everything can make the list (that’s why it’s a top 10) and since this is HARD ROCK HIDEOUT, I kept this list to my ten favorite hard rock records of 2009. If you’d like to see my list of general favorites for 2009, feel free to visit my blog at http://rockandrollguru.blogspot.com
Now without further adieu, here are Ryo Vie’s Top 10 hard rock albums for 2009 !
#10: House of Lords – Cartesian Dreams
Considering that I left this band for dead years ago, I had no expectations whatsoever when House of Lords released Cartesian Dreams. Perhaps that’s why I had an unbiased mind when I first spun this disc. After one play, I was hooked. Holy hell what an exceptional offering this band turned out. Slick with their euro-metal sound, House of Lords came back in a big way this year. I’m hoping that they team up with other hair metal acts to tour, or at least show up at the major festivals. To hear songs like Bangin’ live would be excellent!
#9: Flyleaf – Memento Mori
A sophomore effort that was worth the wait is the best way to describe Flyleaf’s Memento Mori. They were able to overcome the dreaded sophomore jinx by releasing an incredible record that showcases the talent of lead vocalist Lacey Mosley. As I mentioned in my recent review, she sings with emotion that sweeps through the listener, pulls them in, and doesn’t let go. It is her pure energy that makes Memento Mori such an excellent record. Combined with the talents of her other band members, 2010 should be a huge year for this band. As it is, 2009 landed them at number 9 on my list of best rock albums of the year.
#8: Winger – Karma
Winger surprised everyone this year, including their most die-hard fans, by releasing an incredible rock and roll record. Although Kip Winger sounds like David Coverdale on some songs, Karma is a beautiful disc immersed in a thick grunge sound that gives the record power. The ballads are incredible, and the heavier tracks are quality rock songs that will have you shaking your ass (if you’re into that sort of thing). Karma is an absolutely incredible record that any rock and roll fan should own.
#7: U2 – No Line On The Horizon
Shocked. That’s how I was when I listened to No Line On The Horizon. I was skeptical of the new U2 disc. How could they possibly release another great disc after All That You Can’t Leave Behind and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb? Well, somehow, they made it happen again. Another near perfect album came out this year from the Irish rockers beloved the world over. With incredible songs like the title track, Breathe, and Moment Of Surrender U2 continues to dazzle and show us just why they are one of the greatest rock bands in existence.
#6: Chickenfoot – Chickenfoot
Rock supergroups can be hit or miss especially when there are high expectations. (Case in point: Them Crooked Vultures – awful miss). Fortunately for rock fans (and Van Halen fans) Chickenfoot was a huge hit. Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have been working together for years, so there was no doubting their chemistry, but when you add in two other super players (guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Chad Smith) it’s a wild card. These four pulled it off. Satriani showcases some of his best guitar work ever, and Sammy sounds as happy as when he first joined Van Halen. Chickenfoot wins the award for feel good record of the year, and they land in my top 10 for 2009.
#5: Bon Jovi – The Circle
The bad boys from Jersey have grown into the gentle men from New Jersey, but even after all these years they still know how to rock! The Circle delivers the goods in every way imaginable and is more than you’d expect from a Bon Jovi album. Straying away from the country tinged themes of their previous album (Lost Highway), Bon Jovi returns to the rock and roll with this year’s release. Gearing up for a 2010 tour, I can’t wait to hear The Circle live. In the meantime, I’ll be playing this record on a constant loop.
#4: HURT – Goodbye to the Machine
Stunned. That’s a good word to use that describes how I felt after the first few times I listened to this record. I had no expectations going into my review, and after a few listens to Goodbye To The Machine, I was smitten. This record is simply amazing! A heavy, grunge type rock, Hurt delivers exceptional songs backed by intense rhythm, strong lyrics, and a highly talented lead singer. Goodbye To The Machine was probably the best surprise I heard all year, and I’m proud to add it to my top 10.
#3: Pearl Jam – Backspacer
In September, Pearl Jam released their long awaited album Backspacer to the delight of many fans (cousin Ryo included). It had been a long time since their last record (2006’s Pearl Jam) and the new songs were something that fans were crying to get their ears on. Well, the wait was worth it and the time between records paid off. Pearl Jam delivered another fantastic record, and while not quite as good as their self titled previous effort, Backspacer is certainly a worthy disc. A well crafted, well thought, beautifully arranged work of art.
#2: Lynch Mob – Smoke And Mirrors
I’ll be honest, when I heard that this album was coming out featuring original vocalist Oni Logan, I didn’t have much hope for greatness. Don’t get me wrong, I was excited and I wanted the album to do well and sound incredible. However, I’m a realist, and with Logan being MIA for so long, and George being out of the spotlight, I wasn’t sure if they still had that magical chemistry. Am I ever so glad that they erased any doubt that I had. Smoke And Mirrors is a metal classic!
#1: KISS – Sonic Boom
Those who know me will scream bias for picking KISS as my number 1 hard rock record of 2009, but that is not why they are being chosen. Yes, Kiss is my favorite band, but Sonic Boom is a worthy contender for record of the year. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley went into the studio with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer and put together one incredible album. Sonic Boom is so much more than a great Kiss record – it’s a great record. If you played it and had no idea what band it was, you’d still like it. It’s their best work in decades, it’s a strong rock record, and it is the best release of 2009.

0 Lynch Mob Announces New Lineup For Tour
Drummer Brian Tichy (FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL, OZZY OSBOURNE, VELVET REVOLVER) and bassist Michael “Denim” Devin (KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD) have joined LYNCH MOB as the band’s new touring rhythm section.
Commented Tichy: “It will be fun to get loud and powerful with George [Lynch], Oni [Logan] and Denim as I’ve always been a fan and I’d be a liar if I was to say I didn’t attempt to learn all his rhythms and leads on ‘Tooth and Nail’ [DOKKEN] in high school when I was 16! C’mon, he was tearing it up! I was obsessed with guitar back then, as I am now, and he was one of the cats… Well, he still is as so many people nowadays were influenced by him.”
“George is so cool that he came over my house with a little rig and he, myself and Denim had two days of jammin’ the tunes in my bedroom turned drum room. There was barely any space but we had a great time. Total high school vibe! I should have gotten a picture.”

10 Lynch Mob – Smoke & Mirrors (2009)
When I first heard that Lynch Mob was reuniting with Oni Logan to record a new CD, there was extreme excitement in the air. I always thought that Wicked Sensation (Lynch Mob’s debut disc) was underrated and under appreciated. Oni Logan has an amazing voice and coupled with George Lynch’s guitar abilities, Wicked Sensation was everything that solo Don Dokken was not.
After their debut album launched, Logan left the band or was fired, depending on which report you go by. It was assumed that their time together was done. Well now, some 19 years later, they have reunited to record the proper follow up to Wicked Sensation. Their offering is titled Smoke and Mirrors, and quite frankly, it was so worth the wait.
A throwback to the days of great rock and roll, the sound of the 80s with a new millennium twist, Smoke and Mirrors is rock done right. This is the record that all of their peers wished they recorded. Lynch has never sounded better, and Logan’s vocals are still amazing, even after all these years. This is hard rock the way you want it, a touch of blues, a pinch of sleaze, and a lot of fun. Rounding out the band with Lynch and Logan are bassist Marco Mendozza and drummer Scott Coogan (from Brides of Destruction). Together, these four men made quite a record.
Smoke and Mirrors opens with three of the hardest rocking tracks I’ve heard in a long time. They aren’t just great Lynch Mob songs, they’re great rock songs. The disc launches with the hard hitting “21st Century Man”, a kick in the face opening track that blows the mind. Lynch’s guitar work has an immediate impact and 30 seconds into the song when Logan’s vocals kick in, there is a magical feeling oozing from the disc. My only complaint on this song is the band’s decision to use the echo microphone effect currently made popular by Nickelback. That is an overused effect and it did not add any depth to the song, so it was not really necessary. Fortunately, this is the only song they try it on.
The title track follows and delivers a punch that’s just as hard as the opener. A hard rocker with a bluesy backbone, ‘Smoke & Mirrors” is a song that has feet moving and inspires sing-alongs after just two or three listens. Lynch launches the song with a little acoustic guitar riff that bleeds into an Oni Logan moan, and gets the song started. The music and vocals take over from there, producing an excellent track.
“Lucky Man” comes next and delivers the knockout blow. It’s not quite power ballad, not quite hard rocker, just a perfect hybrid of the two. “Lucky Man” shows Logan’s vocal range and proves that he still has what it takes to be a great lead singer. These three songs are reason enough to lay out the cash for this CD, but Lynch Mob is far from finished after ‘Lucky Man”.
Notable tracks include “Smoke and Mirrors”, “Lucky Man”, ‘The Phacist”, and “21st Century Man”. The solo on “Time Keepers’ is some of Lynch’s best work and shows that he is still a master of the guitar, worthy of being mentioned in the same league as Eddie Van Halen, Ace Frehley, and Yngwie Malmsteem. “Let the Music Be Your Master’ may not deliver as quickly as the opening tracks, but after three or four spins, it can be said that this song is as solid as the rest of the disc. The bridge changes and Lynch’s solo make this a worthy contender for top song on the disc. However, there is no clear cut favorite. That’s how good this CD is.
The hard hitting drum work of Coogan adds depth to these solid tracks. Coogan keeps perfect time throughout the album and shows off some of his own talent, even though it may appear that he and Mendozza get buried under the shadow of Lynch’s amazing guitar and Logan’s solid vocal power. That’s simply not true. The rhythm section in this band is the anchor and it’s a huge part of what makes Smoke and Mirrors such an outstanding album.
With a mixture of blues, hard rock, and a smattering of metal, Smoke and Mirrors is a CD sure to get multiple listens on your CD player, IPod, car stereo, house stereo, and wherever else you like to jam the tunes. Coming off the very solid Souls of We record, Lynch certainly has delivered a lot of great music in the past 12 months. Smoke and Mirrors is quite simply a must own disc for any hard rock/metal fan. With a ballsy bluesy, sleaze sound, powerful and outstanding guitar work by Lynch, and riffs that get stuck in your head for days, it’s a no brainer. Smoke and Mirrors is an exceptional CD.

4 Lynch Mob’s Smoke & Mirrors Coming Soon! Audio Samples Available!
Frontiers Records is excited to announce the worldwide release of the LYNCH MOB come back studio album entitled “Smoke And Mirrors” to be released on September 18th in Europe and October 13th in the USA.
After seventeen long years singer Oni Logan and guitar wizard George Lynch found their way back together and again show their amazing abilities in some killer new Hard Rock songs.” I would say this new record “Smoke and Mirrors”, is the record we should have put out as a follow up to “Wicked Sensation”…better late then never I guess...”, says Lynch presenting the new record.
Lynch Mob were formed by George Lynch, one of the few genuine guitar heroes of substance to emerge from the Los Angeles scene, after DOKKEN split up in 1989. The band’s first album” Wicked Sensation” went on to sell over 500,000 units in the US and featured the talents of singer Oni Logan, Anthony Esposito on bass and another former DOKKEN member Mick Brown on drums.
However Oni Logan and George Lynch would found themselves again in a studio in the summer of 07. “We weren’t sure what was going to happen” recalls George, “but as soon as I heard what Oni was coming up with just off the top of his head, I knew the old chemistry was still there. So we spent many months writing. The first batch of songs had almost a Southern Rock feel to them and there was quite a bit of acoustic and slide work on those. They also had a genuine 70’s vibe. These first songs had elements reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, Black Crowes, Stones and it was all very bluesy. We lived with those songs for a while then went in and did a second round of collaboration. We had tightened up as a band after touring over the summer and we consciously wrote the newer material with the “Wicked Sensation” record in mind. So we updated the earlier songs a little and wrote a few more “adventurous” track and went in to start recording”.
Joining the new line-up are bassist Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy) and drummer Scott Coogan (Brides of Destruction, Ace Frehley). More than a band, this team is guaranteed to create one of the most explosive shows you can ever experience and shines big time on the brand new recording which is set to bring back Lynch Mob on the map of the most exciting Hard Rock bands around! “Marco Mendoza is literally a gift from Heaven” continues Lynch. “How they figured out how to stuff all that talent and goodness into one person I’ll never know. they must have made a mistake at the factory! lol… then there’s Scott Coogan on drums…. baby of the band.. he’s very solid, very “Bonhamesque”. not sure if that’s a real word!”
“Smoke and Mirrors” tracklisting includes:
21st Century Man, Smoke and Mirrors, Lucky Man, My Kind Of Healer, Time Keepers, Revolution Hero, Let The Music Be Your Master, The Fascist, Where Do You Sleep at Night?, Madly Backwards, We Will Remain, Before I Close My Eyes, Mansions In The Sky (Bonus Track).
Lynch Mob are ready to embark on a World Tour in the fall 2009 to follow up on the successful performance at the ROCKLAHOMA 2008 and to promote “Smoke and Mirrors”. “We have been expecting to go out in a support situation with a bigger act in the fall of 09 to coincide with the release of “Smoke and Mirrors” and were also expecting to visit Europe as well. It’s been way too long since I’ve played Europe and we need to tour there extensively… last time Lynch Mob toured Europe was with Queensryche… and I think that was 1991!” concludes George Lynch.

5 New Lynch Mob Album in 2009
Cameron Edney from Inside Out Australia spoke to LYNCH MOB’s George Lynch (guitar; ex-DOKKEN) and singer Oni Logan about a number of topics including their new album. An excerpt from the chat is below:
Inside Out: You recently went back into the studio to begin work on the next Lynch Mob album; after so many years of recording what are you hoping to achieve in the studio this time around?
Oni Logan: “We hope to deliver a solid recording, one that will be up to snuff with the first album so to speak.
George Lynch: “Revisiting the wonderful chemistry that Oni and I shared…and building upon the legacy of that first record Wicked Sensation and doing it without the drugs and egos.”
Inside Out: What can you tell us about the new tracks you are currently working on… can you share any working titles with us?
George Lynch: “The album is tentatively entitled Smoke And Mirrors, and some of the track titles are ‘The Phasist’, ‘Mansions In The Sky’ and ‘Hollywood Heroes’. It’s got a nice old-skool four on the floor vibe to it… very honest, bare and raw!”
Oni Logan: “So far the songs that have been written are all different from each other, in some ways it’s been a bit of an adventure, it’s really too early to tell what will end up on the recording.”
Inside Out: Although you are still in the early stages with Smoke And Mirrors, has there been a release date set?
George Lynch: “We’re hoping for early summer 2009.”
Inside Out: When it comes to writing for the new album, have you approached it in the same way as you have done albums in the past or are you guys looking at this from various different angles?
Oni Logan: “The writing process is the same as ever… George comes up with a few riffs we arrange it together then I take it home and write the lyrics and melodies for it.”
Inside Out: George, I have heard that next year you are planning on doing various secret shows and releasing some limited edition albums to commemorate your 30th anniversary, can you shed any light to what it is exactly that you have planned?
George Lynch: “There’s a company called Scenefour that been working on a year and half campaign to commemorate the roughly 30th anniversary. First up is a limited edition art piece that’s really amazing, only two hundred pieces and they’re all unique. One hundred of them will be on display at art shows and the other hundred will be for sale through some retail outlets and the website.”

5 George Lynch on Eddie Trunk Live
Did you hear the George Lynch interview on the Eddie Trunk Live show on XM41 last night.
George was pretty animated, and very honest with his answers with Eddie last night.
George mentioned that they tried to do the Dokken reunion this year, but it didn’t come together. He mentioned that he is still close to Jeff Pilson, and he doesn’t want to do a Dokken reunion without him. Lynch said that Pilson will be busy with Foreigner until at least 2010, so don’t expect a Dokken reunion before then. He also said that Mick Brown is up for it as well, when or if they decide to do it.
Eddie mentioned that Don was holding out for the kind of money for their reunion where they could rent separate buses for him and George Lynch.
George was pretty animated when he heard that. He said that the bus rentals cost so much money that the bus companies end up making all of the profit off of the tours. He thought it was nuts that with them all being in their fifties that they couldn’t get along. He said for that matter, they could just throw him in a trailer on the back of the bus, with a couple of solar panels, for him and his guitar. Throw him an occasional hamburger and he will be fine.
Eddie asked him what he thought about the new Dokken album, Lightning Strikes Again. George said he has listened to the clips of it, and it sounds good. He said that Don is trying to revisit the formula of music that Dokken was known for. He doesn’t want to play that style of music, and it frustrates his fans. He said that is what 50% of the fans want to hear and Don is making a bunch of people happy.
Lynch also mentioned that he is working on a distribution deal for his new CD with London LeGrand, Souls of We. He hopes to have it out for purchase later this summer. (You can buy it now through I-Tunes, and Amazon.com as downloads.) He also hopes to tour this fall with Souls of We.
The Lynch Mob tour is about to start up soon, and he seemed pretty excited about that. He said with the addition of Tommy Aldridge and Marco Mendoza, not too many people will be upset about Mick Brown and Anthony Esposito not playing with him and Oni Logan.
He also mentioned that a new Lynch Mob record is not out of the question, as he has received offers to do another record.
This interview will be available through I-Tunes for free soon. I highly recommend that you check it out. It was one of the better ones on Eddie Trunk Live.

18 My Take on Rocklahoma 2008!

Is Rocklahoma 2008 a big music nostalgia fest? Absolutely! Would I want to attend? Yes, without question.
Many of the bands in this 4 day music extravaganza haven’t released any new tunes in years. Would I still want to see them perform? No question about it.
Enuff Z’Nuff
Vain
House of Lords
Jet Boy
Bret Michaels (headliner)
Looking at the list of acts above, this lineup may not excite a lot of people, but I would still like to see it. I love Tracii Guns, but I make no bones about it, that I prefer the Phil Lewis version of this band. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see their set.
Chip Z’Nuff mentioned in the Rocklahoma that a new Enuff Z’nuff album is on the way with Jake E. Lee on guitar. I am not sure if Jake E. Lee will be with them at Rocklahoma, but if so, this is a show not to be missed.
I haven’t ever seen Vain live, but I have heard a lot of good things about them. I would be happy to check them out.

House of Lords is still putting out new music, and has a new CD that will hit stores in a couple of weeks. Their last album, World Upside Down was quite good. James Christian is a very good singer, and the band features the talent of axe slinger Jimi Bell. Count me in!

I had the pleasure of seeing Jetboy live in Columbus (See this article for the concert review with videos). The band was excellent alive. I wouldn’t miss this their set for anything.
Tracii Guns mentioned in the Rocklahoma press conference that he hated opening for these guys, as they used to blow him off the stage. Jetboy was originally signed to MCA, and as with most acts on that label, never got the proper support they deserved. They are going to open up a lot of eyes at Rocklahoma.

Bret Michaels mentioned at the press conference that this will be a big show with pyro etc when he closes out on Thursday night. It sounds as if he wants to make this every bit of fun as a Poison show. He also mentioned that a special area will be set up where you can meet him in person, get an autograph, and a picture, and talk music with him. With Rock of Love being the #1 show on cable televison, there will be a lot of people waiting in line to meet Bret, without question. I don’t know much of his solo music, so I can’t say if his solo set is something I would want to check out. I will likely check out his solo disc that is supposed to hit in June.
Strangely enough, most of the bands on the Friday schedule, I have not seen live. For them to all be on the same bill together is quite cool. I wouldn’t want to miss one band on the Friday night line up.
XYZ
Armored Saint
Kingdom Come
Night Ranger
TBA
Triumph
Extreme
XYZ was quite similar to Dokken. Terry Ilous said that this will be the first time the band has played together is several years. It should be an interesting set, and it will good to hear some of their tunes again.
Armored Saint is easily the heaviest band on the main stage for the entire 4 day event, and is a no miss act, in my opinion. Their CD, Symbol of Salvation, is still one of my favorites.
Kingdom Come always took a lot of crap for being a Led Zeppelin clone when they first came out. Nonetheless I like their first two CD’s, but I haven’t cared for their more recent material. I am not sure what the lineup will be for this show. I am guessing it will be Lenny Wolf and a bunch of hired hands. I will have to see what I can find out on this one. I have low expectations for this part of the show.
There are plenty of Night Ranger songs that I have enjoyed over the years. They put out a new CD in 2007, which I still haven’t checked out yet. Jack Blades, Brad Gillis and Kelly Keagy are a very talented group. I wouldn’t dare miss this set.
Triumph and Extreme are co-headlining Friday night. This is one of the few appearances that Triumph is making
in 2008. Rik Emmett always puts on a good show. I wouldn’t miss this for anything.

Extreme is back together again with Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, and Pat Badger. They are working on new
material for a 2008 release. I would be happy to see Nuno play live, in any capacity. I am glad to see him return to the band that made him famous.
There is also one band that has not been announced for Friday. I am not sure who this will be, but the lineup is already a solid one.
The Saturday Lineup has a lot of question marks for me, but could turn out to be a solid day of rock.
Pretty Boy Floyd
Every Mothers Nightmare
Tora Tora
Black N Blue
Trixter
Kix
Warrant featuring Jani Lane
Cinderella
My understanding is that Pretty Boy Floyd has completely reunited. This isn’t the watered down version of the band that Steve Summers has been on the road with. If so, then this would be kind of cool to see.
Every Mother’s Nightmare is a complete wild card. The singer, Rick Ruhl, and drummer Jim Phipps are the only remaining members. I like their bluesy Memphis rock, and would like to check them out.
Tora Tora on the other hand is a complete band reunion. I love their two CD’s Surprise Attack, and Wild America.
I have seen them live but it has easily been 18 years ago. They were great then, so I would imagine a solid show by this group. Hopefully their unreleased CD will see the light of day after this.
I never had the opportunity to see Black N’ Blue live, but I have all of their CD’s and would certainly want to check them out. Jamie St. James was pretty good on the last Warrant CD. I don’t know what the lineup will be for this show, but I doubt that Tommy Thayer will be part of it. Gene Simmons owns him now.
I have to admit that I have never been a Trixter fan. I always looked at this band as the New Kids on the Block
with guitars. I thought their music was a little thin back in the day, and seeing them live won’t change my opinion.
I have always liked Kix, and I have seen them live a few times. I have also seen Steve Whiteman’s other band,
Funny Money (which sounds exactly like Kix). It would be cool to hear some Kix tunes live again.
I saw Jani Lane solo in 2007, and he sounded great. I am happy that Warrant is back together again in a full reunion. I have seen them live a few times, and they always put on a good show.
Cinderella is also a band that has always put on an excellent show, each and every time I have seen them. Tom Keifer’s voice is the only thing that is a question mark about this show. The band has been off for a couple of years so I am hopeful that Tom’s voice is back to full strength.
The Sunday lineup is interesting, especially with two times slots still opened. One of these slots is heavily rumored to be Motley Crue. I am not sure of the other one, but wouldn’t be shocked to see Danger Danger get the other slot.
Axe
Beautiful Creatures
Zebra
Lynch Mob
TBA
Tesla
TBA
I doubt a lot of people are going to know Axe. I know the band, but I wouldn’t go out of my to see them play live. I like their tune Rock and Roll Party In the Streets, but that is about it.
Beautiful Creatures have released a couple of CD’s in this decade which is more than a lot of the bands in this music festival can say. Seeing them on the roster has me getting out my CD’s by them again. I would certainly want to check them out.
Zebra is a darkhorse in this lineup. I haven’t seen them live, but I am quite familiar with their music. This could be a good show.
Lynch Mob now features Oni Logan on vocals, Marco Mendoza on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums, and of course George Lynch on guitar. I saw half of this band perform with Whitesnake, and would love to see this lineup in action. Tommy Aldridge is an animal on the drums, and George Lynch needs no introductions. I am interested in hearing his new Scorpion Tales album, but this is a Scorpions cover album. This is quite odd, considering that he hasn’t ever been in the band.

Tesla is the must see band on the Sunday bill. I have seen Tesla twice in the last year, and they were excellent both times. They will easily be the best band on the Sunday lineup (amongst those that have been announced so far.)
The side stages at Rocklahoma has a bunch of darkhorses, and bands that may surprise you.
The lineups look like this:
The Retrospect Records stage includes the following bands: Jester, Sidekixx, air-A-Dice, Front Runner, Tommy Had a Vision, Valor, Gypsy Blue, Whitefoxx, Blue Tiger, Wild August, Messang, Paul Shortino, Mariah, Warryor, Bad Candy,
Lorraine, Nasty Nasty, Real Steel, Cuttlass, Vyper, Mass, Bad Candy, Oney, Strikeforce, Herazz, Reckless, Heartless, Ron Keel, Warryor and Alibi.
I am not familar with most of the bands on the Retrospect stage, aside from: Mariah, Mass, Paul Shortino, Ron Keel, Nasty Nasty and Strikeforce. I would certainly like to
check out some of these acts, although none of these were bands were ever considered A-Listers.
The other stage has Texas Hippie Coalition, Karnevil featuring Dario Lorina, Dirty Penny, Crooked X, Gypsy Pistoleros, Sweet FA, Banshee, Gods of Kansas, Lipstick Magazine, Pownd, Shadowside, Mindflow, Warmachine, Asphalt Valentine, and Krucible featuring Lance King.
The interesting thing about Stage 3 is most of these are all up and coming bands.18 year old Dario Lorina is an amazing guitar player. Look him up on you tube and watch this kid play. He is very good. Karnevil is his new band. I don’t know much about them, but with Lorina on the six string, they will be interesting.
Dirty Penny is one of the better new glam bands out there. They aren’t very original, but their new CD is pretty good.
The Gypsy Pistoleros close out Friday Night on stage three, and they are the must see band in Rocklahoma. The Flamenco twist on their upbeat glam tunes is certainly one that I would like to see.
Sweet FA is the late 80’s/early 90’s hard rock band that reunited in 2007. Their new CD, The Lost Tapes is quite good. I have seen this band live, and I know they are pretty good.
Banshee is another must see band on stage three. They are one of the heavier acts on this stage. If you haven’t heard any of their music, I recommend checking them out. They will surprise you for sure.
Gods of Kansas is a newer band that is starting to make some waves. They are currently playing a bunch of live shows all over the U.S.
Pownd is a newer heavy metal band that is located 2.5 hours down the road from me in Richmond, Kentucky.
Their newest CD is highly rated across the web. I will be reviewing this one soon.
Shadowside and Asphalt Valentine are two of Chavis Records newer bands. Shadowside has one cd out, and one
on the way. Asphalt Valentine is a hard rocking band from Atlanta, GA. Their debut will be released within
the next couple of months. (I will also be checking them out locally in two weeks).
I don’t know the other acts on this stage (Crooked X, Lipstick Magazine, Mindflow, Warmachine, and Krucible) but I will be exploring these bands in the months to come.
As a whole….Rocklahoma offers plenty of Nostalgia, but also a slew of NEW bands trying to make it in the music world. The addition of two more stages in 2008 greatly improves this event over the 2007 show.
I can only hope that I will be able to make the trek there for this show. I can’t imagine missing this event!
