Motorhead2013

Silence, silence
Silence when you speak to me!

-Lemmy Kilmister

Like the juggernaut you prayed would keep on crushing you, like the friend that still royally pisses off your parents and like a loyal standard of crunchy, greasy, punky, bluesy, gutsy screw-you rock’n’roll, MOTÖRHEAD stride out through their 38th year brandishing more swagger and attitude then your ears could begin to comprehend.

On October 22, 2013, MOTÖRHEAD will deliver their 21st studio album, an enormous and prophetic Aftershock. Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, it is a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything MOTÖRHEAD stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see MOTÖRHEAD in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that MOTÖRHEAD is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

That genre, more than ever, resonates with hearty independence and swashbuckle. Whether it’s “Heartbreaker” throwing hooks and riffs into your head, the double-kick concussiveness of “Paralyzed” with Campbell’s fuelled attack, or the thunderous ride-off-the-Rickenbacker Motörcharge of “Going To Mexico”, Aftershock takes gleeful twists and turns which re-announce the Motörlegend. There’s the smoky biker bar blues in the shape of “Dust And Glass”, Lemmy’s late-night vocals evoking last-call and melancholy, the pogo-powered punk-spiked stab of “Queen Of The Damned” and the deliciously steamy, humid mournful “Lost Woman Blues” which midway through decides to kick over the stool and stomp out the saloon door.

Lost Woman Blues
End Of Time
Do You Believe

Aftershock is available in four different formats, wherever music is sold! The album can be purchased in CD (limited edition digipack), CD (jewel case), Vinyl (gatefold – 180-Gram Single LP), and digital formats. A North American pre-order will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Steal it if you must, buy it if you can!” says Lemmy, who’s pride in the album is so immense that guests to his home and dressing room in the last couple of months have been treated to extremely loud airings of the rough mixes, while Phil Campbell adds, “I really think the variation on the album shows that we’ve dug deep and produced some of our best work for a long time.”
“It is,” says Mikkey Dee, “a really, really strong MOTÖRHEAD album, one that really does define everything this band stands for.”
He’s not wrong. Because MOTÖRHEAD are MOTÖRHEAD are MOTÖRHEAD…and their Aftershock will be felt worldwide…

0 CLEOPATRA TO RELEASE MOTÖRHEAD: LIVE TO WIN – THE DEFINITIVE MOTÖRHEAD BIOGRAPHY

  • August 22, 2012
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

The nearly forty-year career of the epic heavy music band Motörhead  is chronicled in an amazing and collectable book, MOTÖRHEAD: LIVE TO WIN by Alan Burridge (Cleopatra, August 28).

LIVE TO WIN is the full, in-depth Motörhead story, with previously unpublished, revealing facts, rare and early photos, and is fully approved and endorsed by Lemmy (who also contributes to the introduction).

Motörhead formed in England in 1975 by bassist/singer/songwriter Lemmy Kilmister, and was an early part of the NWOBHM, the movement to reinvigorate loud music.  With a big dose of punk, Motörhead’s sound pioneered speed metal, and continues with consistency to support, elevate, and encourage the genre around the world.  The band has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and just finished a North American tour.

The book starts in those early days in the 1970s, when the rocky start and personal struggles of the band threatened to keep it on the ground.  But with Lemmy’s focus and gutsy determination, the late part of the decade showed success in the UK.  The Motörhead world domination of the 1980s and 1990s, including the release of ACES OF SPADES, BASTARDS and more, is chronicled with stories from nearly twenty years of heavy touring with everyone from Dio to Ozzy.  The book concludes present day, with Lemmy cemented as a rock icon beside long-time bandmates Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, and still driving that Motörhead train in music history.

Alan Burridge (also known as Professor Motörhead) is the official biographer of Motörhead.  He started a fanzine for the band in 1980, which became the band’s endorsed fan magazine, Motörheadbangers. He has written numerous articles, interviews, reviews, and liner notes about the band, as well as more than two dozen other fiction and nonfiction books.

MOTÖRHEAD:  LIVE TO WIN will be available in stores and at online retailers for MSRP $36.98.  The book is 220 full-color glossy pages with shiny silver trim, and includes a collectible full-color bookmark.  The cover features a gorgeous red and silver foil logo on black leatherette.

0 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival – Cincinnati, Oh Review & Photo Gallery

  • August 6, 2012
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music · Photo Galleries · Photo Gallery

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival came to the Riverbend Music Center in July.  This tour is easily the biggest Metal festival of 2012, and the lineup this year is pretty incredible.  You have two of the Big Four thrash bands, Anthrax and Slayer, as well as Motorhead, Slipknot, As I Lay Dying, Asking Alexandra, The Devil Wears Prada, Whitechapel & more.  Work commitments kept me from making it to the venue for the 2 P.M. start time, but I did manage to make in for the start of Anthrax’s blistering set.

This was the second time I have seen Anthrax in 2012, and much like the first time, the bodies started flying as soon as the music began.  The security guys in the pit were having a time keeping up with all of the crowd surfers.  Anthrax was incredible as always, but as good as they were, they weren’t the best band of the evening. I watched the conclusion of Anthrax’s set, and made my way to the main stage for As I Lay Dying.

This was a night of many firsts for me.  I haven’t ever seen As I Lay Dying, Slayer or Motorhead, so I was excited to see these bands play for the first time.  I have to admit, I am not much of a metalcore fan, but As I Lay Dying was very good at what they do.  They hair was flying, and lead singer Tim Lambesis never stayed in place for a minute.  My neck hurt just watching him perform.  Lots of headbanging and hair flying fun!

Next up was the mighty Motorhead.  I can’t believe that I haven’t seen the band play before now, but Lemmy Kilmister and company were excellent.  Lemmy is still getting it done at the nice young age of 66. Of course, Motorhead closed out their set with the one and only “Ace of Spades” and it was as awesome as I expected it to be.

To my ears, the best band of the evening without question was Slayer.  I readily admit that I haven’t been a big Slayer fan, but they blew me away.  The band was on fire all night (as was their stage, with tons of pyro.) Kerry King might just be the most metal looking musician ever!  I enjoyed watching him play.

I wasn’t able to photograph Slipknot, so I grabbed my seat for their set.  I saw the band in the inaugural Mayhem festival back in 2008, so I already knew that they put on an in incredible show.  They didn’t disappoint.  Their is always something going on the stage during a Slipknot show.  From Clown’s hydraulic drum kit, to the masks, random crowd surfing, and pyro you never know where to look during their set.  I can’t remember Slipknot coming to Cincinnati before, but I am pretty sure this was their first time here.  Judging from the people who raised their hand when Corey Taylor asked if it was their first time seeing Slipknot, there were thousands of people who have not seen them play before.  They got their money’s worth at the 2012 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. This is a great festival for fans of metal music.  I can’t wait until the next one.

0 2006 Videos – Motörhead – Be My Baby

In 2006, that little band featuring Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, aka Motörhead released their eighteenth studio album, Kiss of Death.

The band released one video in support of the album.  The video clip, “Be My Baby” is pretty damn cool in my opinion.

Check it out below!!

1 Motörhead – March or Die (1992)

  • April 15, 2011
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · CD Reviews I-P · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock Videos · Music · Video

In 1992, on Motörhead’s 10th album, March or Die, Lemmy Kilmister took Motörhead in a different direction, and attempted the mainstream approach with the band.  Many long time Motörhead fans were disappointed with this direction and unhappy with this album.  The heavy punk edged feel of Motörhead is definitely missing on some of the songs on March or Die, but this album is not the stinker that many folks make it out to be. It is just different.

On this disc, you have a few of  guest stars.  Ozzy and Slash join Lemmy on the song “I Ain’t No Nice Guy”.  Slash also adds some guitars on the song “You Better Run”. Tommy Aldridge from Whitesnake handles most of the drums on this disc.

“Hellraiser” first showed up on the Ozzy Osbourne disc No More Tears in 1991.  Lemmy had a partial writing credit on this song and rightfully used this song here.  I like the more raw feel of the Motörhead version of the song.

Lemmy does a solid job covering the Ted Nugent classic, “Cat Scratch Fever”.  The Motörhead version doesn’t surpass the original, but it isn’t bad either.

The songs “Stand”, “Bad Religion”, “Jack the Ripper”, “Too Good To Be True” and “Name in Vain” all rock hard, and are amongst my favorites on the CD!

Overall, March or Die is a solid album, and worth another look, if you haven’t listened to it in a long time.  If you haven’t picked this one up, you should definitely do so.  You can pick this CD up for next to nothing at this link.

Rating: Out of 10

There are two types of hard rock fans in the world. Those who love Motörhead, and everyone else!  The thing I love about Motörhead is you always know what you are going to get with each and every release.  Motörhead always deliver with short, heavy songs that rock. and that is exactly what you are going to find on Motörhead’s 20th release, The Wörld is Yours. What amazes me about Motörhead, or more importantly, Lemmy Kilmister, is they show no sign of slowing down. Lemmy celebrated his 65th birthday in December, but he still rocks with the best of them. To my ears The Wörld is Yours is one of the strongest Motörhead albums in several years! Lemmy will probably never win an award for vocalist of the year, but if you like Lemmy’s vocals, you will be proud to know that Mr. Kilmister hasn’t lost a thing in 2011. His coarse vocals haven’t changed one bit!

The album starts off with a lot of promise, with the opening song “Born to Lose”, Mikkey Dee sounds like he is going to pound his drums into the floor!  This is a great, yet dangerous song to play while driving! You may find yourself speeding down the road, rocking to the high speed rhythm of this tune!

I am a sucker for a cool riff, and long time Motörhead axeman Phil Campbell dishes out a pretty cool one, on “Devil’s In My Head”. This is a good catchy rocker that will sound great live!  “Rock ‘N’ Roll Music” is more of a bluesy rocker, that brings AC/DC to mind every time I hear it.

Mikkey Dee takes the song “Outlaw” to the next level for me.  His awesome drumming really takes this song up a notch.

If you aren’t head banging after the first minute of “I Know What You Need”, then you need to turn in hard rock fan membership card.  This song flat out rocks!

Overall, the strongest tracks on The Wörld is Yours are “Born To Lose”, “The Devil’s In My Head”, “Outlaw”and “I Know What You Need”.  There isn’t one song on this CD that doesn’t rock hard. If you are a fan of Motörhead, you will definitely enjoy The Wörld is Yours. If you aren’t a fan, go back to listening to your Lady Ga Ga CD’s. Lemmy and company will keep the rest of us rocking happily!

0 ONSLAUGHT Reveal New Cover Artwork, New Song Streaming on Myspace

  • November 27, 2010
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

U.K. cult thrashers ONSLAUGHT have just unveiled the cover artwork of their new album “Sounds Of Violence” (to be released on January 28th). They will release a double single “The Sound of Violence” / “Bomber” on December 17th. The song “Bomber” (Motörhead cover) is already available for streaming on ONSLAUGHT’s MySpace.

Onslaught guitarist Nige Rockett comments:

“We’re really stoked to finally be getting some new material out in the public domain, its been such a long time since the ‘Killing Peace’ album and this will be a great little sampler for the upcoming album release in early 2011..

‘The Sound of Violence’ track is a cool representation of things to come, its got a real old school Onslaught feel but its very contemporary at the same time… a real angry no nonsense thrasher…..

Regarding the ‘Bomber’ cover: Motorhead have always been a huge influence on Onslaught and our relationship goes back a long long way.. So when we decided to have some fun and do a cover song in the studio, this track immediately sprang to mind, especially as its relative to the theme of the new album… We’ve given it a pretty aggressive Onslaught slant and thrashed it up little, but still very much retaining the original identity of the song..

To make things a little more interesting, we thought we would like to add some very special guests into the mix….

We asked Phil (Campbell) if he would like to come and thrash out with us and play some guitar on the track… the answer was an undoubted ‘Yes’…

Things we’re sounding pretty cool in rehearsal but just missing that tiny piece of magic / the icing on the cake… Then Phil came in and played that awesome riff in his style and everything just fell right into place…

We also had the idea that our friend ‘Tom Angelripper (Sodom) would sound perfect sharing the vocal duties with our own Mr Keeler, we knew Tom Was in the studio recording the new Sodom record so the timing was perfect….we sent over the tracks and Tom did the rest, he laid down some great fucking vocals as you will hear and its really added something special to the final result…

As you can tell really I’m buzzing about all this… its an exciting time to be in Onslaught right now……….”

4 Slash – S/T (2010)

  • April 7, 2010
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · CD Reviews Q-Z · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

From Guns N’ Roses, to Slash’s Snake Pit, to Velvet Revolver, Slash has had one hell of a career so far. One thing is for certain, if you have lived on the planet Earth for the last few months, you have heard a lot of  hype about Slash’s new solo album.  I must admit that although I like Slash, I didn’t have high hopes for this CD.  Usually when there is such a hodgepodge of musicians on a release like this, the end result is typically a couple of good songs a but not much more. This is NOT the case with Slash’s CD.

First and foremost, Slash plays his ass off on this CD.  His guitar work is superb all the way through.  It is going to take a few more plays before I fully realize the full effort that Mr. Hudson has put into this disc. If anything, I am quite impressed.

The opening song “Ghost” has made me hungry for some new Cult songs.  This is no phone in performance from Ian Astbury.  This is a great vocal, and an awesome song!

I love Ozzy Osbourne, and I thought his appearance might be one of the lone highlights on this CD.  I would have to say that Slash’s playing on “Crucify the Dead” is better than Ozzy’s vocals.  All in all, it is a decent song, but not one of my favorites.

Fergie’s appearance on this disc, took quite a few people by surprise.  I am not a Black Eyed Peas fan by any means, but I have heard Fergie sing enough rock songs to know that she has some vocal talent. (Take a look on youtube and check out her rendition of Heart’s Barracuda.) With that being said, I didn’t have an issue with her appearance here.  Fergie turns in a very good vocal performance, and seems to be a good match for Slash’s playing. I found “Beautiful Dangerous” surprisingly refreshing.

I have been anxiously awaiting to hear Slash’s song with Myles Kennedy for quite some time.  Myles has made quite an impression on me with the last Alter Bridge album.  This guy is one hell of a singer. He is also Slash’s singer on tour, so it is important that his vocals are top-notch here.  I am pleased to say that both “Back to Cali” and “Starlight” are highlights on this disc. Myles Kennedy may just be one of the most under rated vocalists today.

Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell turns in a solid vocal on “Promise”.  This song has single written all over it.  This is going to get a lot of radio play without question.

The first single from this CD, is “By The Sword” with Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale.  I am not sure why this song was released as the single.  It is not the best song on this CD.  It isn’t even close.  The song almost has a Led Zeppelin like vibe. Although it is not one of my favorites, it has grown on me after a few spins.  The song does work to break up the pace on the album.

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine takes the mic on the song “Gotten”. With no surprise, this song is more of a pop tune, than a rock song, but it isn’t bad.  I can’t say that I have ever heard Slash play like this.  His playing is rather light until about two-thirds of the way through the tune, when he breaks out with some cool bluesy licks.

Thank God for Motorhead’s Lemmy!  You know exactly what you are going to get with a vocal from Lemmy.  He always dishes out razor-sharp vocals with Motorhead, and while “Doctor Alibi” may not be as heavy as a Motorhead tune, he does turn in a pretty good vocal. I like this song a lot.

“Watch This” became an instrumental tune when Dave Grohl decided that he did not want to SING on Slash’s album.  Grohl does play the drums on watch this, and it turns out to be a pretty cool tune.  This is easily one of the heaviest songs on this CD. I don’t think Grohl’s vocals would have improved this.  You can download “Watch This” for free, here!

Kid Rock offers no surprises on “I Hold On”. This song has a very southern rock like vibe to it.  I am not a big Kid Rock fan either, but I  must admit, Kid Rock sounds 100% better with Slash.

After hearing Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows on “Nothing To Say” I thought myself, could this be the singer that Velvet Revolver needs?  This is an up tempo rocker, and Slash’s playing is awesome here.  I love hearing him cut loose like this!  M. Shadows and Slash seems to complement each other well.  Who knew this one would work?  Very cool indeed!!

Out of all of the musicians on Slash’s solo CD, I am least familiar with Rocco DeLuca.  Much like the song, with Adam Levine, Slash shows another side of his six string prowess. Even though this style of song is not what I would expect from Slash, it does sound like a million bucks.  The production is top notch.

The album closes out with the legendary Iggy Pop signing “We’re All Gonna Die”.  This is a very catchy rocker, even though it does have some silly lyrics.  It is a pretty solid way to close out this album.

Overall, I am very pleased with Slash’s new album.  There are a ton of great tunes on this CD on this disc, and it seems to get better with every listen. Don’t miss out on this CD! You can preview the songs at Slash’s website at this link.

0 LEMMY KICKS OFF THE NEW YEAR GETTING INKED

lemmy

What a way for Lemmy Kilmister, Motörhead’s legendary frontman, to start the new year: making an an indelible impression on national TV, with the band’s new song from /Motörizer/, “Rock Out” as the soundtrack.

The national cable TV show, LA INK, one of The Learning Channel’s most talked about programs, will be featuring Lemmy getting his three current tattoos touched up by ink vixen, Kat Von D.

As noted on the TLC website:
LA INK- this Thursday, January 8, 2009 – 10:00 PM

This TV feature is a companion piece to the recent Lemmy/Motörhead article in the January, 2009 issue of INKED Magazine, their best-selling issue ever. In it, Lemmy discusses:

– the three tattoos: The Ace of Spades (left forearm), a Capricorn sign (left shoulder) and an Indian shield (right forearm).

– his first tattoo: In 1973 in Dayton, Ohio when he was in Hawkwind. It was a marijuana leaf, which he’s since had covered up because it looked like “a pizza with wings.” It’s now an Indian shield.

– the biggest tattoo disaster he’s seen: A friend of theirs was getting “Born to Lose” tattooed on her arm, and the guy was about to spell it with two o’s – “Born to Loose.” Lemmy saved her just in time.

– some wild Motörhead tattoos he’s seen: Says Lemmy, “A friend of ours in Germany has his entire back covered with the logo and he’s got us tattooed on the sides of his head and chest. He’s got our faces on the calves of his legs.” Now that’s a fan!

**side bar – many of the band’s fans have sent in pix of their very own beloved Motörhead tats. Check ’em out and send in yours: http://imotorhead.com/mh_for_life.cfm

The hard-livin’ Englishman goes on to talk about politics, strippers, UFOs, sex, gambling, ghosts, porn stars and being a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. Just the normal interview stuff. Oh, and a bit about the Lemmy movie that’s in the works.

TV, film and print. Lemmy…he’s just your typical all-around guy.

Punk veterans Social Distortion and metal legends Motorhead will headline a North American traveling festival created by popular tattoo artist and cable TV personality Kat Von D.

An official itinerary is still in the works for the 25-city Musink Tattoo and Music Festival, but it begins January 30 in San Francisco and is expected to wrap March 15 in Los Angeles. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Along with live music, the festival will host a number of other tattoo artists from around the world, and showcase various extreme sports. Kat Von D will also sign copies of her new book “High Voltage Tattoo,” due January 20. Staffers from festival sponsor Samsung will demonstrate new mobile phones.

The Musink festival concept was first realized last February with a three-day music and tattoo event at the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. In addition to more than 300 tattoo artists, the festival featured performances by the Used, Tiger Army and Metal Skool.
