0 Video – Nickelback – This Means War

Nickelback is certainly one of those bands that some fans love to hate. I am not a hater by any means. They always deliver every time I see them live, and it was their live show that made me a fan. I didn’t think their latest album Here and Now was their best, but I did like the song “This Means War”. Check it out in the video clip below!

0 Nickelback – Here and Now (2011)
Canada’s über successful rock band, Nickelback is back with their seventh album, Here and Now. With two great albums back to back in All The Right Reasons and Dark Horse, Nickelback is making it harder and harder on themselves to top their previous works.
When I first heard the single “When We Stand Together”, I thought it was a pretty cool tune, but I was kind of fearful, that Here and Now may be a little more on the mellow side. As it turns out, the album is pretty well-balanced with some heavy rockers, and a few mellow numbers. The album is a little on the short side, as it clocks in just shy of 40 minutes.
The album starts off right with an excellent heavy rocker “This Means War”. This is easily one of the best songs on Here and Now. “Bottoms Up” on the other hand, didn’t really do anything for me. This party anthem is a little too grungy for my taste.
“Midnight Queen” is a crunchy up tempo rocker that does not disappoint. This catchy tune might be one of my all time favorite Nickelback tunes.
You won’t need too many guesses to know what the song “Gotta Get Me Some” is about. This sleazy number has some cool riffs, but I don’t care for this song very much.
“Lullaby” starts off with a keyboard sound that is more akin to U2 than Nickelback. This mellow tune will likely get tons of plays on the radio, but it isn’t my cup of tea.
“Kiss It Goodbye” is another rocker that didn’t really excite me very much. It is just an o.k. tune that is a little too grungy in my opinion.
“Trying Not To Love You” is another slower tune, but unlike “Lullaby”, this one is pretty good. I like this one a lot better, and I think it has “hit” written all over it. “Holding On To Heaven” is a low to mid tempo number that is growing on me after multiple plays. This song could be a possible sleeper hit for Nickelback.
Here and Now desperately needed a cool rocker at this stage of the game. “Everything I Wanna Do” is a mid tempo tune that has some big riffs, but just falls flat.
I was hopeful that the album close out strong, and while the song “Don’t Ever Let it End” is a good tune, I was hoping for a little more.
Does Here and Now surpass Dark Horse or All The Right Reasons? No, not by a longshot. It is definitely above average, and is a CD most Nickelback fans will enjoy. You can purchase Here and Now at this link.

0 HRH Live Featuring Nickelback

Earlier this year, I saw Saving Abel, Seether and Nickelback live. My wife is a Nickelback fan, and I honestly thought I was taking one for the team by going to see this show. My wife goes to see quite a few bands that she doesn’t care for, so I definitely owe her a bunch.
I like Saving Abel and Seether well enough. In fact, I saw Seether just a few days prior to this show. This was my first time to see Nickelback live, and I must say, I was pretty surprised by their show. It was like an old school 80’s rock concert. This band often takes a bad rap, but I enjoyed their show, and wouldn’t hesitate to go see them again.
I was able to capture a few clips from the show, including Nickelback’s performance of the Filter song,”Hey Man Nice Shot” with Seethers, Shaun Morgan.
Enjoy the clips below!

0 Nickelback, Sprint and Ace Marketing & Promotions Inc. Partner to Deliver Bluetooth & Wi-Fi Proximity Marketing Campaign
Nickelback Fans Attending the April 8th Show at the Sprint Center to Receive Free Content via Bluetooth & Wi-Fi — Fans, Turn Your Bluetooth Visibility “ON”
Ace Marketing & Promotions Inc. announced today that they have teamed with Nickelback and Sprint to deliver what has come to be known as Ace’s flagship product, Rockzimity — a dynamic Bluetooth & Wi-Fi multimedia content delivery system compatible with over 1000 mobile devices, including the iPhone. All fans have to do is to turn their Bluetooth Visibility to “On” & Discoverable and upon entering key areas in and around The Sprint Center in Kansas City, for example, fans will be presented a message “Would You Like A Free Video From Nickelback?”. Upon accepting “YES” the message download immediately begins, quickly and seamlessly and is then stored in the consumers media folder. From there the content can be virally spread to family and friends via email or Bluetooth. For Wi-Fi enabled devices all consumers have to do is connect to the Nickelback localized network that is created and then launch their browser.
Ace Marketing & Promotions Inc., a mobile marketing leader focused on the advancement of the brand to consumer relationship, utilize Proximity Marketing to engage fans and touch them from many angles and access points. Most recently, Ace Marketing & Promotions Inc. and Madison Square Garden successfully delivered content and downloads to thousands of consumers in their most recent campaign focused on delivering branded content & promotional ticket offers to some select events at the Garden. Michael Trepeta, President for Ace Marketing & Promotions Inc., stated, “We have seen great results in our most recent campaigns at MSG and across the country, fans are coming to the shows with their Bluetooth Visibility ‘On’ and coming expecting something exciting, something that engages them.” When asked, Nickelback Manager, Bryan Coleman, stated, “Nickelback are continually searching for new and exciting ways to interact with their fans. This amazingly creative Bluetooth technology allows for actual ‘real time’ contact with our fans during our live show and creates unlimited opportunities.”
Matt Gaines, CMO for Ace Marketing & Promotions, went onto say “We are focused on what we want to accomplish with this pilot program with Nickelback and Sprint. We want to engage fans, deliver rich media relevant content from Nickelback and motivate consumers to make a move to Sprint. By enhancing the artist-to-fan relationship, something vital in today’s music industry climate, we can allow fans to participate in the marketing campaign. All fans coming to this event with their Bluetooth Visibility enabled, they leave with something on their mobile device that they share with families and friends not only at the event, but for weeks to come, a perfect viral result. Fans will receive wallpapers, ringtones and some other great pieces of content, totally Free from Nickelback and Sprint.”
7 Rockitt Rant – Songs That Sound The Same
Twice in 2008 (and maybe more) we have had examples of bands stealing songs from another group. First, Velvet Revolver was busted for swiping a guitar riff off of the band Dirty Deeds. More recently Joe Satriani has accused the band Coldplay of the same thing.
Last night I was listening to Saliva’s 2007 CD, “Blood Stained Love Story”. A song of interest to me was the song “Black Sheep” by Saliva. This wasn’t a hit by Saliva, but I thought it sounded somewhat familiar. It finally dawned on me what song this reminded me of. It was Nickelback’s song “Animal” off of their 2005 CD, All The Right Reasons.
Here is a copy of Saliva’s tune “Black Sheep”:
Here is Nickelback’s “Animals”:
Listen to the music! The similarities are uncanny. While the songs are not exactly the same, there are parts of “Black Sheep” that sounds like it was heavily borrowed from Nickelback.
This seems to be a disturbing trend that I am seeing more often as of late. I don’t know if this recent example is lawsuit worthy or not, but you can’t deny how similar the songs are.
I am sure there are a lot more examples than this one.
Do you know of any songs that sound the same from two different artists?

Black Stone Cherry aren’t aliens to huge arena tours after securing an opening slot with rock legends Def Leppard and Whitesnake on their European double headline arena tour. They are released their second studio album ‘Folklore and Superstition’ in August 2008. Vocalist/guitarist Chris Robertson reflects on the process, saying,
“Starting out as a band seven years ago, with high hopes and even bigger dreams, I honestly believe this record shows the experience of our past travels, and gives a hint of the future. It captures all the energy and heart that embody Black Stone Cherry. We took some chances on this album and I believe that our fans will appreciate seeing the other sides of the band that they may or may not have known existed.”
Nickelback vocalist, Chad Kroeger has also commented on his take on Nickelback’s popularity, “I honestly think that with every song you release you have to keep winning your own fans over again,” he explains. “I want every single song to be amazing. That’s what I want to hear, so that’s what we have to try to provide to our fans.”

Combining influences of southern rock, hard rock and alternative music, the band was first heard on a 2005 EP, produced by Skidd Mills (12 Stones, Saliva, Submersed).

21 Nickelback 2009 Tour Dates
Billboard.com is reporting that Nickelback will begin a North American tour Feb. 25 in Nashville in support of its just-released Roadrunner album “Dark Horse.” Tickets go on sale Dec. 5 via LiveNation.com, but Nickelback fan club members get first crack on Friday (Nov. 28).
Seether and Saving Abel will support on the jaunt, which runs through April 23 in Columbia, S.C.
“Dark Horse” is expected to debut tomorrow in the upper reaches of The Billboard 200. First single “Gotta Be Somebody” has sold 570,000 downloads in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Asked recently by Billboard why NIckelback opted to wait to tour until next year, frontman Chad Kroeger said, “We’ve been bitten too many times by going out too early. I’m always adamant about making sure there’s at least a true rock song from the band that’s gone to radio, just to give a more diverse selection of music for people to listen to.
“We’ve been consulting with some people; I’m interested to see someone else’s take on what this band could look like live, and we’ve had some real interesting stuff come back,” he continued. “I think we’re gonna try some stuff that, believe it or not, no one has ever done live before.”

0 Nickelback – Dark Horse (Release Year – 2008)
Nickelback has returned with their follow up to 2005’s multi-platinum disc, “All the Right Reasons”. This time around Nickelback has brought in superstar producer Mutt Lange (Def Leppard, AC/DC) to help craft their new album.
Like many of you, I downloaded the new single, “Gotta Be Somebody” when RoadRunner Records made it available. I don’t know if it was a preconceived notion in my head knowing who the producer was, but I thought, at least with the first single that Mutt Lange figured out a way to (Def) Leppardize Nickelback’s sound. The first single was good enough to entice me to purchase the new album.
Prior to the release of Dark Horse, Nickelback has released a second single “Something In Your Mouth”. My first thought was that this was a terrible choice for a song title. Strangely enough, this song has an upbeat groove that will likely make it a crossover hit in both pop and rock formats, bad title or not.
“Burn It To the Ground” is amazingly catchy. The guitar riff on this song had me tapping my feet, and doing a little headbangin’. This song is one of the heavier cuts on “Dark Horse”, and an early favorite of mine.
“I’d Come for You” is a mid tempo number that ought to be released as the third single on Dark Horse. This song could be a #1 hit for the band. Yes, it really is that good.
“Next Go Round” reminds me a lot of the song “Animal” off of “All the Right Reasons”. This song is a high tempo rocker with some heavy guitar elements. Is that a guitar solo I hear? Somebody pinch me, surely I must be dreaming. This is a Nickelback CD right?! Mutt Lange must of broke out a can of whoop ass on Nickelback, as Ryan Peake plays his butt off. “Just To Get High” has even more guitar solos in it. I thought this was a lost art form on today’s modern rock artists. I leave it to Mutt Lange to get the best out of Nickelback. I love hearing Peake play like this.
The song “Never Go Alone” reminds me a lot of Hysteria era Def Leppard. If you listen closely to the guitar parts, there are some definite similarities on this song. This is going to be a huge hit for Nickelback. I guarantee it.
“Shakin’ Hands” has this upbeat sexual groove that will likely help this song become a staple in strip clubs everywhere. You have to listen to the lyrics to truly understand why.
“If Today Was Your Last Day” is a little bit too much of a generic Nickelback song for my tastes. Even though this comes across as an average tune in my ears, this will likely be a pop hit for the band.
“This Afternoon” is a song that was crafted more for the pop audience than the hard rock crowd. This is a throw away song for me personally, but I am sure their will be some folks that like it.
Has Nickelback surpassed their monster effort “All the Right Reasons”? I believe they have. I thought their last album had a few good songs, but was quite a bit over rated. Dark Horse has at least 6 or 7 songs that have single potential. This is an album could easily carry Nickelback well into 2010 with its monster radio potential.
Nickelback fans ought to pick this one up without question. You can buy this in the HRH music store, at this link.

0 Nickelback’s Dark Horse Out Tomorrow!
Chad Kroeger laughs when asked if the phenomenal sales for 2005’s “All the Right Reasons” gave confidence to Nickelback as it set out to make its sixth studio album, “Dark Horse.” “No, because look what we have to try to live up to,” says Kroeger, who co-founded the quartet in 1995 in Alberta, Canada. “There’s a mountain sitting behind us. We’ve got to try and put something out now that’s going to stand up to that. So for us, the bar has been raised ridiculously high.”
“Dark Horse,” which comes out this week on Roadrunner and was co-produced by Mutt Lange, certainly has a target to clear. Buoyed by seven multiformat hit singles and five No. 1 videos — and apparently unaffected by widespread critical drubbing — “All the Right Reasons” has sold 10 million copies worldwide, according to Roadrunner, and spent a staggering 110 consecutive weeks in the top 30 of the Billboard 200.
First single “Gotta Be Somebody” has already sold more than half a million downloads in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. “I had the chorus, and we recorded it, actually, when Mutt went home to go spend some time with his son. Before he came back I played him this chorus over the phone, and he was like, ‘Oh, I want to get working on that song as soon as we get back to the studio!'”
“Dark Horse” is Lange’s first full album production credit since ex-wife Shania Twain’s last album in 2002. “I think Mutt was coming into a situation where he knew Nickelback fans were happy with everything we’d been putting out so far,” Kroeger says. “He didn’t really want to change the band too much; he just wanted to bring in a slightly different perspective and a slightly different influence. It definitely still sounds like Nickelback, but you’re definitely going to hear a couple different flavors.”

The Canadian rock outfit is recording the as-yet-untitled project in Vancouver with producer Mutt Lange, who hasn’t worked on a new album since ex-wife’s Shania Twain’s “Up” in 2003.
