0 Priestess to Release Prior To the Fire in 2010
Electrifying hard rock band Priestess has signed to NYC’s Tee Pee Records. The Montreal-based group will issue its highly-anticipated sophomore album Prior to the Fire in February, 2010.
Recorded in Los Angeles with producer David Schiffman (System of a Down, Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails), Prior to the Fire underlines Priestess’ hard-hitting songwriting, memorable hooks and earth-shaking ability to rock. With a sound built upon a resolute sense of purpose and shaped by hundreds of explosive live shows, Priestess’ Prior to the Fire is an electric recording, bringing to light a colorful pool of both creativity and innovation. The long-awaited follow up to 2006’s critically acclaimed debut Hello Master, Prior to the Fire sees Priestess at once hungry, fierce and focused. The record’s majestic power merges titanic riffs, memorable metal, progressive rock and hard psych elements with the powerful, expressive vocals of frontman / guitarist Mikey Heppner to create an album that will floor heavy music fans.
“It wasn’t the easiest record to make,” says Heppner. “But the hard work definitely paid off and we’re really, really proud of the end result. We’ve done so much touring and seen so much since our first record that it only galvanized our feelings of what the band is. The songs that make up “Prior to the Fire” were meant to be heard live and loud. We can’t wait to get out on tour again and really do them justice!”
Formed in 2003, Priestess has consistently garnered top notch praise for its dynamic sound and monstrous modern rock. The band has toured incessantly since its inception, sharing stages the world over with friends and peers such as Mastodon, The Sword, Converge, dinosaur Jr and Motorhead. The bands song “Lay Down” is currently featured in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock and the new song “Raccoon Eyes” (from Prior To The Fire) appears on the soundtrack to the wildly popular EA Sports game NHL 10.
In addition to Heppner, Priestess features Dan Watchorn (guitar, backing vocals), Mike Dyball (bass) and Vince Nudo (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

1 Priestess To Release Prior To The Fire in October!
Montreal’s PRIESTESS will release its sophomore album, “Prior To The Fire”, in Canada on October 20 via Indica Records/Red Ink. The punishing eleven-song effort was recorded in Los Angeles in the fall of 2008 and produced by Dave Schiffman (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, NINE INCH NAILS, MARS VOLTA).
Since its formation back in 2003, PRIESTESS has become one of Canada’s most successful hard rock bands, and an international force to be reckoned with. The band released its debut, “Hello Master”, back in 2006 and since then has spent most of its time on the road touring with heavy hitters like MEGADETH, MOTÖRHEAD, MASTADON, GWAR and participating in several high-profile events such as Heavy MTL with IRON MAIDEN, Festival d’Èté de Québec with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, and Monsters of Rock/Ozzfest with OZZY OSBOURNE, just to name a few.
PRIESTESS’ profile skyrocketed when the band’s song “Lay Down” was featured in the smash-hit videogame Guitar Hero, earning them a legion of new fans. Their music has also been heard in the HBO series “Entourage”, “Friday Night Lights” and it was recently announced that their new song “Raccoon Eyes” will be on the upcoming EA Sports’ NHL 10. Their two singles, “Lay Down” and “Talk To Her”, also became top 15 hits at rock radio across Canada.

8 Priestess – Hello Master (Release Year – 2006)
The first time I ever heard any tunes by Priestess, was on Kevin Kash’s Breaking Bone Hour, on XM41, The Boneyard.
Usually, I know most of the new bands that are being introduced, but strangely enough not Priestess. This Canadian quartet are one of the many bands that are pioneering the Retro Rock movement. I have heard a few people call this stoner rock, but I don’t know if I completely agree with that assessment.
There are some definite stoner like elements in the band’s music, but Hello Master sounds like a brand new classic rock/metal CD. I can hear the influence of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath in the band’s music, but they are not a copycat act by any means.
This 4 piece band is led by Mike Heppner on vocals, Dan Watchorn on guitar, Mike Dyball on bass, and Vince Nudo on drums. It took me a while to put my finger on it, but Mike Heppner’s vocals remind me of Glenn Danzig.
The songs Lay Down, Run Home, and Talk To Her are among my favorites and good selections for videos.
Lay Down
Run Home
Talk To Her
Hello Master appears to be one of those CD’s that grows on you with repeated listens. The songs, Time Will Cut You Down, I am the Night, Colour Me Black, and Blood have grown on me quite a bit.
This CD is one that classic rock fans, and quite a few hard rock fans are going to enjoy. Priestess will certainly be a band worth keeping an eye on in 2007. For information on Priestess, check out the band’s website here, or their myspace page here.
