0 GILBY CLARKE EMBARKS ON A WORLDWIDE SUMMER TOUR SELECT U.S.A. DATES WITH QUIET RIOT
Gilby Clarke embarks solo on a worldwide summer tour – kicking off in London, England at The Underworld. Before Clarke crosses the pond, he will deliver to all the fans a new track, which will be announced in the weeks to come.
Recently, Clarke released a new video Tijuana Jail – Originally released in 1994, Clarke updated this fan favorite with a 2014 video version that can see here: http://youtu.be/74-pGsvqnvE.
Best known for his tour of duty with Guns n’ Roses, Gilby Clarke was 17 when he traded Cleveland for Hollywood. A troubadour in the Ronnie Wood tradition: a barroom brawler with attendant Stonesy swagger, plus a catalog of well-written ditties. Clarke joined Guns in the early 90’s as the Use Your Illusion tour kicked off. He appeared on the bands Spaghetti Incident, Live Era ’88-’91 & Greatest Hits albums. Surviving the longest tour in history – Clarke went solo & came out swinging with PawnShop Guitars. A catalog of rock n roll purity: Tijuana Jail, Cure Me… Or Kill Me… & The Stone’s Dead Flowers put this record on many year-end top 10 lists.
Along the way Clarke split time producing worthy bands: LA Guns & The Bronx while touring/recording with Heart, The MC5, Nancy Sinatra & Slash’s Snakepit. Clarke also starred in the CBS TV show Rockstar Supernova with Tommy Lee and joined his new bandmate for an all-star VH1 Rock Honors appearance. Recently, Clarke & his GNR alumni pulled off an amazing Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame performance when the band was inducted in 2012 & continues to play with the ex-gunners from time to time in Kings Of Chaos.

0 Quiet Riot to Perform with Brett Michaels at Chesaning Showboat Festival
Keeping that rock and roll spirit alive, hard rock legends Quiet Riot will bring the sounds of the MTV generation to the Showboat Festival in Chesaning, MI on July 17th, 2013.
Quiet Riot, the LA born hard rock band, has continued a legacy in the genre of rock and roll since establishing their musical art form in the early 1980’s. With consistent airplay, MTV video plays and international touring that was showcased in every major magazine worldwide for decades, the band’s footprint is forever embedded into the history of rock and roll. On July 17th, the band will bring the hits to the stage of the Chesaning Showboat Festival alongside former Poison front man, Brett Michaels.
Quiet Riot’s 6-time platinum release Metal Health instantly became the inspiration to millions of rock and roll musicians around the globe looking to score a bite of the fame Quiet Riot achieved. As MTV bought a new form of entertainment to television viewers with 3 to 5 minute video shorts that exploited the teen angst of a generation with rock and roll dreams and visions of stardom, it seemed that the dream was attainable to anyone who could knock out three chords and some decent lyrical content. The truth, at the time, was hushed by the visions of splendor. The truth being, you had to have the skills to back up the look. It isn’t as easy as it looks to create a song that stands the test of time. Quiet Riot has done that over and over, as their long string of success is evident in the current tours set list.
While the line-up of the band has changed since the passing of former front man Kevin DuBrow, the mastery of the musicianship remains intact. Drummer Frankie Banali and bassist Chuck Wright were both instrumental in bringing the band into the light of fame. Despite what viewers saw while watching the song play on MTV, Chuck Wright and Frankie Banali were the driving rhythm section that recorded their number one hit and defined the sound of the generation. In the studio, they together assembled and recorded rock’s biggest and most influential song with the words, “Bang Your Head – Metal Health will drive you mad!” – it’s impossible to read it without hearing it play in the back of your mind. The reason being, it’s an art form, performed by those who have been educated in mastering the art.
While often behind the scenes, bassist Chuck Wright, who will be performing on stage at the festival, has laid down some of hard rock’s most familiar chart topping hits over the past two decades. Recording, performing and touring in support of acts including Stephen Pearcy of Ratt, Doro Pesch of Warlock, House of Lords, Mr Big, Jeff Scott Soto and the legendary madman Ted Nugent to name a few. Chuck Wright’s latest efforts outside of Quiet Riot’s tour include the 2013 release of Heaven and Earth’s “DIG,” the passionately awaited album rock fans have clamored for featuring Stuart Smith, Richie Onori, Arian Schierbaum and the debut original release to feature Joe Retta bringing his heartfelt and wide vocal range to the plate for a swing and a clear cut home run. The album can be heard and purchased by visiting: www.heavenandearthband.com.
After the show in Chesaning, fans are urged to stick around, as the band is known for taking the time after each performance to meet their fans and take pictures, sign autographs and share laughs with long time supporters of their music.

After the tragic passing of co-founding Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow in 2007, many figured that the band was over. But while going through the vaults of vintage video material for an upcoming documentary of the band’s history, the spark was reignited once more for drummer Frankie Banali to kick QR back in gear. The easy part was filling the guitar and bass slots – as former members Chuck Wright (bass) and Alex Grossi (guitar) promptly signed on. However, having to fill DuBrow’s large shoes was no small task.
A longtime fan of heavy metal, singer Mark Huff came to Banali’s attention while fronting a California-based VAN HALEN tribute band (that focused on the “Sammy Hagar era”). A true Cinderella story, Huff auditioned via a cattle call audition, promptly blew Banali away, and got the gig. After getting the blessing from DuBrow’s mother to carry on with Quiet Riot (and to celebrate her son’s music), the group was ready to rock once more.
In addition to the aforementioned concerts, Quiet Riot will be guests on US syndicated radio show Rockline on Wednesday, January 19th. The program airs at 8:30 PM (PT) / 11:30 PM (ET). The show will feature drummer Frankie Banali, exclusive live Rockline performances with the late Kevin DuBrow and recordings with new vocalist Mark Huff. Fans are encouraged to speak with Quiet Riot by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625). 4 Video Showdown #20 – Slade vs. Mama’s Boys vs. Quiet Riot
In 1972, glam rockers Slade released the song “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” on their classic album Slayed?. Little did they know the song would be covered by several bands later on.
In 1984, Irish rockers Mama’s Boys released a cover of the song on their self titled disc. In the same year, Quiet Riot also released their cover of the song on their disc Condition Critical.
The Slade version was the most successful, although Quiet Riot did experience some modest success with their cover as well. I am guessing many folks are not familiar with the Mama’s Boys version of the same tune. The band Mama’s Boys never really took off in the United States.
Check out the three clips below and tell us what you think! Which version of the song is best? Which video is the best? Obviously, Slade’s version is not an official video, but considering the age, it is still kind of cool. Quiet Riot & Mama’s Boys both had unique takes with their own videos.
Which one do you think is best? Decide with your votes below!
Has this song been covered too much, or do you think one of today’s hard rock bands should put their own unique spin on this song?
Please comment and let us know what you think.

5 QUIET RIOT BACK IN BUSINESS WITH NEW SINGER AND UPCOMING TOUR
Quiet Riot hit mega-success with their first-ever US release in 1983, the classic ‘Metal Health.’ Spawning two hit singles that have gone on to become synonymous with heavy metal – “Cum On Feel the Noize” and “Metal Health” – the ‘Metal Health’ album went on to become the first-ever metal US debut to hit the #1 spot on the Billboard album charts, and resulted in a solid year of sold-out arena shows and non-stop MTV video airplay. However, it was the DuBrow-Banali-Wright-Grossi line-up that proved to be DuBrow’s favorite touring line-up (and also, most stable).
Quiet Riot is currently firming up plans for a full U.S. tour – their first in three years. And with the aforementioned documentary on the horizon, and the band’s music being used in hit films (‘The Wrestler,’ ‘Tropic Thunder’), video games (‘Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s’), and even musicals (‘Rock of Ages’) – as well as QR being name-checked in songs by Weezer and Ben Folds – Quiet Riot remains a major force in heavy metal. And soon, you will get a chance to bang your head once more to Quiet Riot, at a concert venue near you!
Please visit Quiet Riot’s website, where you hear classic Quiet Riot songs recorded with Mark Huff on vocals. (HRH Note: They sound great! You gotta check this out!!)
3 Classic Video – Quiet Riot – Laughing Gas (Live)
My friend Bob and I were talking about the Randy Rhoads era of Quiet Riot last night. He recommended that I check out the live video, “Laughing Gas” on Youtube. If you have never seen the late great Randy Rhoads play before, check out this live clip! The video quality is poor, but Randy’s playing is amazing.
0 FORTHCOMING QUIET RIOT DOCUMENTARY TO GO BEHIND THE SCENES CIRCA CRAZED ‘METAL HEALTH’ ERA – FANS ASKED TO HELP RAISE FUNDS
Without a doubt, THE heavy metal success story of the early ’80s was none other than Quiet Riot. After years of struggling in LA clubs (despite legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads being in their ranks throughout the ’70s), the classic QR line-up of Kevin DuBrow (vocals), Frankie Banali (drums), Rudy Sarzo (bass), and Carlos Cavazo (guitar) hit mega-success with their first-ever US release in 1983, the classic ‘Metal Health.’ Spawning two hit singles that have gone on to become synonymous with heavy metal – “Cum On Feel the Noize” and “Metal Health” – the ‘Metal Health’ album went on to become the first-ever metal US debut to hit the #1 spot on the Billboard album charts, and resulted in a solid year of sold-out shows and non-stop MTV video airplay.
11 Kevin Dubrow Remembered
Today is the one year anniversary of the death of Quiet Riot singer Kevin Dubrow. It is hard to believe that it has already been a year since the news came over of Kevin’s untimely death. His demise spelled the end of Quiet Riot, which was easily one of the biggest bands of the early 80’s. I can’t imagine what direction hard rock music would have gone in, without the early successes of Quiet Riot.
The following videos are from Dubrow’s long career with Quiet Riot. Rest in Peace Kevin!
1 New Freakshow Tune Unleashed
Freakshow, the new band featuring Markus Allen Christoper (Miss Crazy), Frankie Banali (Quiet RIot), Jeff Labar (Cinderella) and Tony Franklin (Blue Murder) have released a new song called “Everyone” on their myspace page.
Cinderella fans are going to love it! The guitar riff on this tune reminds me a lot of Cinderella’s song, “Somebody Save Me”

4 Did John Corabi Quit Ratt?
Rumor has it that the former Motley Crue front man, John Corabi has left RATT, and former Quiet Riot guitarist, Carlos Cavazo has joined the band. There has been no official word from the RATT camp yet!
Stay Tuned!
4 New Band Project in the Works: Freakshow
A new band called Freakshow featuring, Frankie Banali from Quiet Riot on Drums, Jeff Labar from Cinderella on Guitar, and Markus Allen Christopher from Miss Crazy on Vocals.
Check out the band’s new myspace page for more info.
A new bass player will be announced soon!
5 Quiet Riot Will Not Reform!
QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has issued the following statement:
“I have been approached to see if I would be interested in contacting Rudy Sarzo and Carlos Cavazo and to audition singers for QUIET RIOT.
“I have also been approached to see if I would be interested in contacting and reforming the version of QUIET RIOT that included Paul Shortino, Carlos Cavazo and Sean McNabb.
“Let me make this very simple and perfectly clear. While I am still actively involved in the business interests of QUIET RIOT and will continue in that capacity, I reject any and all suggestions to have QUIET RIOT continue as a live performing entity.
“My friendship, love and respect for [late QUIET RIOT singer] Kevin DuBrow as well as my personal love and affection for Kevin’s mother and his family makes it inconceivable for me to ever entertain any ovation to reform or to continue QUIET RIOT. Kevin was too important to go on without him. It would also be a disrespect to the fans who have supported QUIET RIOT for nearly 25 years.
“I thank everyone for the wonderful and sometimes unpredictable adventure that I was able to share as a member of QUIET RIOT. The only regret that I have is the loss of Kevin. May he rest in peace.
“I now begin life after QUIET RIOT.”
2 Kevin Dubrow’s death ruled a Cocaine Overdose
The death last month of Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose.
Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles said after toxicology results were received Monday, “The cause is cocaine intoxication.”
Police have said there was no forced entry and no suspicious circumstances when Dubrow was found dead Nov. 25 at his Las Vegas home. He was 52.
Quiet Riot was perhaps best known for its 1983 cover of “Cum on Feel the Noize.” The song, featuring Dubrow’s powerful, gravelly voice, appeared on the band’s album “Metal Health” – which was the first by a metal band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard chart.
DuBrow recorded a solo album in 2004, “In for the Kill,” and the band’s last studio CD, “Rehab,” came out in October 2006.
0 Kevin Dubrow Audio Interview Available for Download
The Hairball John Radio Show as made a 2004 audio interview with Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin Dubrow available for free download.
In August of 2004 I conducted one of several interviews with Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin Dubrow. During this particular interview I felt he was the most open and candid as he discussed the fresh (2004) break-up of Quiet Riot, his first solo release “In For The Kill“, his conflict with other artists and his memories of the late Randy Rhoads. In light of Kevin’s recent passing I felt that fans of Kevin and Quiet Riot would treasure this unedited conversation. So we are making as a free download courtesy of The Hairball John Radio Show.
Enjoy the interview. Hairball John
The entire 10-minute interview with Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin Dubrow and can downloaded for free at the home site of The Hairball John Radio Show
Show Host Hairball John posted the following personal thoughts regarding the passing of Kevin Dubrow.
This past week the Metal community lost a very instrumental player in the passing of Kevin Dubrow from Quiet Riot. I was shocked when I heard the news but it did not fully register with me until we were recording our show later that week and were using a promo from Kevin to lead into “Cum On Feel The Noize“. It was then that I recognized the passionate artist that we had lost. I remembered the numerous times that I had been up against the stage for Quiet Riot shows since 1984, the three interviews that I had conducted with him over the past five years and then The Acid Chimp and I meeting him in person in 2004.
Over the past 25 years Kevin fully embraced his personal freedom to speak his mind and do as he pleased. Not always to the liking of the fans, other musicians or for the good of Quiet Riot, but always true to himself and that sense of living in the moment and speaking freely is something to be admired. Although it is always sad for a generation to lose an icon I am extremely grateful for the legacy that will live on and the incredible affect that Quiet Riot has had on the music industry. Not only were they the first Heavy Metal band to have a number one record (Metal Health), but the success of that release opened the flood gates for numerous Los Angeles based bands to get the full marketing support of their labels. This in turn made Los Angeles a magnet of proportional strength as it drew bands from all over the world to ride the second and third wave of success off of the Sunset Strip. But one of the most valuable aspects that came from Kevin Dubrow and Quiet Riot is the bevy of incredible artists that it spawned in the likes of Frankie Banali, Rudy Sarzo, Carlos Cavazo, Chuck Wright, and Randy Rhoads. All of which went on to play in a multitude of high profile bands. Try to imagine what Hard Rock and Heavy Metal would be like without the contributions of these artists.
While many fans and friends mourn the loss of Kevin I think he would want to be remembered by a line from Metal Health that seemed to represent how he lived his life I’m not a loser and I ain’t no weeper. Kevins contributions are invaluable, unforgettable and forever eternal. What more could an artist want?
You rocked us til it struck the hour.
Thank you.
