TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

Multi-Platinum rock band Great White, celebrated the 25th anniversary of the band’s inception with the release of BACK TO THE RHYTHM in 2006. The band’s new record RISING is a no holds barred, all original LP that is among their strongest releases to date. The bands new CD is their second studio recording in 10 years and features 11 brilliant new compositions penned by the band.

An international phenomenon, Great White has been reported to have sold in excess of 10 million units internationally, including the double platinum “…Twice Shy,” which spawned the Grammy-nominated Ian Hunter cover of “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.” With other hits such as “Rock Me,” “Face The Day” and “Save Your Love” cranked up around the world, Great White established themselves to the masses as a classic rock band with memorable riffs, steeped in the hallowed tradition of blues and rock and roll.

Eschewing an 80’s production in favor of a retro/modern one, long-time band producer and keyboardist Michael Lardie captures the essence of Great White with a sound that has more in common with the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin than that of their contemporaries. Unlike many bands of the era that are making new records, Great White consists of nearly all original members. The guitar and vocal team of Jack Russell and Mark Kendall are stronger than ever on this explosive new CD and have a unique synergy, not unlike Plant/Page, Tyler/Perry or Jagger/Richards.

great_white_-_rising_artworkGreat White seems to live by the old addage “If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It” and after 27 years, 12 original studio albums, and countless live and compilation albums it has worked, but sometimes even if it doesn’t need fixed a little tweaking can do wonders. On their newest release “Rising” the guys could have definitely used a little tweaking. Now don’t get me wrong “Rising” rocks it just doesn’t rock hard enough at least on a consistent basis.”Rising” starts out promising enough as the first three tracks “Situation”, “All Or Nothin'”, and “I Don’t Mind” are absolutely vintage Great White. Jack Russell’s voice is still one of the best in the business and doesn’t sound like it has lost in power over the years as some singers are prone to do. Newcomer, bassist, Scott Snyder makes his presence known right from the start with a great foot tapping bass line on “Situation” and follows it up with another great performance on “All Or Nothin'”. The rest of the band, guitarist,  Mark Kendall, who is still one of the most underrated players in the music business, guitarist/keyboard Michael Lardie, and drummer Audie Desbrow are all outstanding and give solid performances from start to finish.

The problem I have with “Rising” are the songs themselves. They seem to be stuck in the mid-tempo range and rarely break out into full fledged rockers I have come to expect from Great White, with “Danger Zone” being the one exception, and to be completely honest they just aren’t very memorable. Of the 12 tracks on this album there are 4 songs I would consider standout tracks as I said before “Situation”, “All Or Nothin'”, and “I Don’t Mind” are all vintage Great White and you can add the ballad “Only You Can Do” to that list also. “Loveless” is almost there but it is missing that little something extra to make it special. It would not surprise me at all if a country artist ended up covering “Is It Enough” or “the Last Chance”, even the versions on “Rising” could get airplay on today’s country stations. The rest of the songs are just there more like background music than anything you would crank the stereo up too.

I’m sure for the fans just discovering Great White “Rising” will fill their cup, but for lifelong fans, like myself, “Rising” will definitely leave you feeling a little deflated. “Rising” is a prime example of the pieces being better than the whole.

great-white-ris-coverSince reuniting in January 07’ to perform a benefit concert, Great White has moved forward with the successful release in the summer of the same year of their return album “Back to the Rhythm”, a record which was hailed by critics and fans as a return to the heydays of the band. After a world tour that celebrated the first 25 years of Great White and that brought them for 14 concerts to Europe, bass player Sean McNabb opted out and was replaced by Scott Snyder (ex Ramos, Accomplice).

The band (which of course includes long-time members by Jack Russell, Michael Lardie, Audie Desbrow and Mark Kendall) went back to the studio and produced the brand new album “Rising”, once again a tribute to the Great White root sound with Rock, Blues and strong melodic elements.

The Southern California blues Hard Rock band first took a bite out of the rock scene in 1984 and since then has achieved worldwide success, encompassing sales of over six million records. They received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” and earned a double platinum certification for the album “…Twice Shy”.  The late 80’s were boom years for the band, marked by non-stop touring with some of the biggest bands of the era and playing also in Europe and Japan. Great White recorded two more albums for Capitol — “Hooked”, which was certified gold and “Psycho City”.

The album includes an exclusive bonus track for Europe “Let’s Spend the Night Together”.
