0 HALCYON WAY TAKES PART IN HUGE ROCK BAND NETWORK CONTEST

  • November 7, 2011
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

HALCYON WAY, Atlanta’s premier metal band is bringing their powerful mixture of heavy, punishing riffs and infectious melodies to North America with their new release “IndoctriNation”. “IndoctriNation” is the sequel to 2010’s “Building The Towers” and continues the sound and theme of that album. It features 5 brand new original tracks; a cover of “Stand Up” by Steel Dragon, a radio edit of “The Age Of Betrayal”, and an industrial remix of “The System”.

Aurally combining the heaviness of bands like Testament, the technical prowess of Dream Theater, the power metallic attitude of Evergrey and soaring vocal melodies, HALCYON WAY will leave you awestricken by their punishing riffs and unforgettable hooks.

Order your copy now at www.halcyonway.com/webshop

HALCYON WAY are hugely involved with the Rock Band Network and Rock Band video game series. The band is now part of the largest contest ever run by Rock Band Network. All details and a comment from guitarist Jon Bodan about the contest:

“HALCYON WAY are proud to be part of this great contest and ready to see how the fans do as they try to outshred us!  BRING IT,” said Bodan.

Did you guys say you wanted a contest? Boy have we got one for you!

First the bad news :

To win this contest you’ll have to prove your mettle in a TAG “Endless set list” featuring THIRTY of our songs in one play list!

Thirty songs you say? THIRTY?!? Yep 30. BUT the spoils that go to the victor will be well worth going through the set list.

First up :

You’ll get a signed copy of Rishloo’s “Feathergun” album, a signed Rishloo poster, a limited edition very RARE signed Halcyon Way poster, a copy of Halcyon Way’s “Building the Towers” and “Indoctrination” CDs, CYNIC “Traced in Air”. THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN “Option Paralysis”, AND SEPTICFLESH “Communion” CDs!

WHAT? Still not enough?

Good god people….ok then how about a set of drum sticks for your rock band drum set, some drum tape, a gaggle of T-shirts from Fender, Martin, Vic Firth, and other brands, AND a cooler with an ipod dock!

Surely that’s enough….No?!?! You want more?!?

Ok last thing. I mean it.

The winner of this contest will also receive one FENDER PRO GUITAR AND A MIDI ADAPTER FOR THE XBOX 360.

Yeah you read that right. That Pro guitar that everyone wants and no one can find because it’s no longer in production? All you have to do is win this contest and it’s yours.

Along with all that other stuff.

Oh and since you twisted our arm we’ll throw in 3200 ms points to get your new pro guitar Rock Band collection started.

We told you we’d be announcing the contest to end all contests and we meant it.

Oh what’s that? How do you win?

Well that’s the easy part. You don’t have to be first place, or tenth place, all you have to do is log in a score on the leader boards for this battle on ANY instrument or combination of instruments during the next seven days.

A winner will be picked at random from all the leader board scores.

So for you guys that don’t think you’re good enough to win a contest because there are better players out there, then this is THE contest for you.

WHAT?!?! STILL NOT GOOD ENOUGH!?!?!

OK how about some very rare Harmonix swag then? A bunch of RB stickers (instrument icons and John Dee artwork), pins, wristbands, a RBN tote bag AND a signed copy of RB3 for the 360.

Go. Play. Win.

OZZY OSBOURNE THRASHES ONTO ROCK BAND WITH
SIX SONGS, INCLUDING THREE UNRELEASED SONGS
FROM UPCOMING ALBUM SCREAM!

Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, will make his Rock Band debut June 15 with a six pack of songs in the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™.
“It’s great to bring my songs to Rock Band, especially material from the new album, Scream,” said Ozzy Osbourne. “I hope Rock Band players around the world are ready to have their living rooms invaded by me!”
Scream – Osbourne’s first album in almost three years and 10th studio album overall – is set for a June 15 release via Epic Records. Produced by Ozzy and Kevin Churko, both of whom did the same honors for Ozzy’s 2007 worldwide million-seller Black Rain, the new album is fueled by the red-hot first single “Let Me Hear You Scream.” Ozzy’s band consists of Ozzy’s new guitar player, Gus G., bassist Blasko, drummer Tommy Clufetos and keyboardist Adam Wakeman.
Ozzy Osbourne’s career has spanned four decades, and his music is as relevant today as ever. On any given day, you can hear his music blasting at sporting events, in the movies, on the radio, in TV commercials, video games or on your MP3 player. Ozzy is not only a legend and an icon, but is a pioneer in his genre of music.  He has helped open the door for countless bands by giving them their big break by taking them on tour or by taking them on Ozzfest, his all-day metal festival, now in its 15th year.
With more than 400 artists, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, AC/DC and Green Day, who are exclusive to Rock Band, as well as more than 1,500 songs available through the Rock Band platform and 68 million songs sold through its download store alone, Rock Band is the undisputed sales and content leader in the interactive music space, providing the deepest and best selection of artists, songs and albums.
Rock Band DLC additions for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii
One of the best-known rock vocalists of all time, Ozzy Osbourne began his career in the 70s with Black Sabbath, which released 10 albums and sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. Ozzy embarked on his solo career in the 1980s and has since sold another 50 million albums worldwide on his own. The rock legend has won two Grammy® Awards, an MTV Movie Award, was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame and the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and his reality series, The Osbournes remains the highest rated series in MTV history. And now, the Godfather of Heavy Metal is coming to Rock Band.
Ozzy will make his Rock Band debut June 15 with a six pack of songs spanning his solo career. From his latest and 10th studio album, Scream, are “Diggin’ Me Down,” “Soul Sucker” and the album’s first single, “Let Me Hear You Scream.” These songs are available exclusively through Rock Band until the album’s release June 22. “I Don’t Wanna Stop” from 2007’s Black Rain, “Crazy Babies” from 1988’s double platinum No Rest For the Wicked, and “No More Tears” from the 1991 four times platinum album of the same name, will also be featured as downloadable content in the Rock Band Music Store.
“Harmonix and MTV are excited to bring Ozzy Osbourne’s epic music to Rock Band,” said Paul DeGooyer, SVP, Electronic Games and Music, MTV Networks. “It’s very cool that Ozzy fans will get to experience both his classic and very latest songs through our platform.”
MTV Networks is celebrating Ozzy Osbourne’s debut in Rock Band across its television channels, including the following:

Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, today announced the launch of “Rock Band Bar Nights,” a ground-breaking initiative providing tools for U.S. bar owners to host their own Rock Band Nights. The program gives bars a cutting-edge in-bar entertainment option to help increase foot traffic and provide Rock Band fans with the opportunity to take the stage for a true rock star experience.

Rock Band – featuring a full band performance with guitar, bass, drums and mic – is revolutionizing the standard karaoke night in bars. The Rock Band Bar Nights program expands the Rock Band social experience for current fans and gives new fans the opportunity to try the game in an authentic performance setting with a live crowd cheering them on.

To help venues host and promote their own Rock Band Bar Nights, the program offers support to registered bars with everything from exclusive Rock Band product offerings to multiplatform marketing support. Through an exclusive e-commerce store, the program will also provide bars with a full music solution to easily rock their bar with the extensive Rock Band catalogue featuring more than 800 tracks and growing every week!

To kick off the program, Harmonix and MTV Games are providing bars that sign up before September 8th with an exclusive five-song preview disc from The Beatles: Rock Band, allowing their customers to experience the highly anticipated game before it hits stores on September 9th.

In addition to offering in-bar support for this new entertainment option, the Rock Band Bar Nights program extends online and gives members direct access to the Rock Band community with hundreds of thousands of fans, as well as the chance to stay connected on Rock Band’s official Facebook and Twitter pages. 5 Cruefest 2008 – Motley Crue

Before Mötley Crüe started their set, the winners of the Rock Band competition performed/played Bang Camaro’s Push Push (Lady Lightning).  They screens of the game being played showed up on the giant screens on the left and right hand side of the stage.  It had to be cool for these kids to be on stage in front of thousands of people.

Mötley Crüe’s stage opened up with an angelic looking image glowing though the black curtain that kept the stage hidden, this image was followed up with a Devil complete with pitchfork.  I don’t think anyone knew what to expect before the curtain dropped.

Mötley Crüe has been known to put on a huge stage production and Cruefest ’08 is no exception.  The stage has the huge steel letters Los Angeles in Reverse.  The light show and sound were fantastic.

Mötley Crüe’s set list included the songs “Shout at the Devil”, “Kickstart My Heart”, “Dr. Feelgood”, “Live Wire”, “Don’t Go Away Mad” “Sick Love Song”, “Same Ol’ Situation”, “Primal Scream”, “Looks that Kill”, “Girls Girls Girls” and new songs “Saints of Los Angeles” and “Mother Fucker of the year” and an encore of “Home Sweet Home”.

I don’t know how Mick Mars manages to perform to the level he does on stage. His battles with ankylosing spondylitis has him in a lot of pain.  Regardless if he is overwhelmed with pain, he plays to the best of his ability.  He was great in Cincinnati.  He played a bunch of solos including one that he borrowed from Jimi Hendrix.  Awesome!

I thought Mötley Crüe as a whole sounded great, and if they didn’t I would gladly say so.  My wife didn’t think Vince Neil was singing all the words, but I though he sounded pretty good for the most part. There was a part of “Mother Fucker of the Year“, where he looked like he forgot a lyric.  You can see it in the video below. He recovered pretty quickly though.

“Saints of Los Angeles” was pretty cool.  The song closed out with the gang vocals of James Michael, Jacob Shaddix, Chris Brown and Josh Todd.

It seems that the Mötley Crüe Tittycam (or Tit E. Cam if you prefer) has taken the place of Tommy Lee’s drum solo which there was none.  One of the things you could always count on at a live Motley Crue show was an over the top drum solo by Tommy Lee.  I was disappointed that he didn’t do something special this year.  This was about my only disappointment with this show.

Motley Crue’s set was great, as was Cruefest’ 08.  I can’t wait to see what the Crüe has in store for us on  Cruefest ’09!  I will definitely be there!

I have included some of my favorite pictures from the Mötley Crüe set, and a couple of video clips as well.  Enjoy!
