2 Rock Gone Wild is Officially Cancelled!
Rock Gone Wild, an Iowa based LLC was informed by Diamond Jo Casino, LLC legal counsel on August 5, 2009, that “the event cannot take place anywhere on the licensed premises”.
Due to Diamond Jo Casino, LLC refusing to honor its obligation to provide the venue, we are unable to produce the event as planned. This matter has been referred to legal counsel.

Sadly, in another example of “eyes too big for one’s stomach”, the organizers of Rock Gone Wild – the four-day outdoor event scheduled in Northwood, Iowa, set to host some of the ’80s biggest acts, including the likes TWISTED SISTER and GEORGE THOROGOOD as well as overseas metal stalwarts PRIMAL FEAR and SAXON – has cancelled, just two weeks from its scheduled August 20th debut.
The net has been abuzz with rumors since the weekend and the festival’s main page switched to discount pricing options last week (never a good sign). However, writing in the on-going thread on the page Natalie Wild (one of the organizers and listed as administrator of the fest’s forum) says, “Official RGW press release will be posted today (August 6th). Please understand that we have to wait for our legal department to advise how to move forward. Someone is going to pay for this, and it won’t be the fans or me, not two weeks out. Not after every penny of my life savings has gone into this, NOT when everything has been paid for. I don’t think anyone can feel what I’m feeling right now.”

Rock Gone Wild, America’s newest and most diverse rock festival, has announced that Epiphone Guitar has signed on as the official guitar of the festival. The company will partner with Rock Gone Wild to produce an exclusive signature festival guitar that will be used in promotional giveaways to further enhance the profile of both RGW and Epiphone.

Organizers of the show have also announced that the Iowa-based, four-day festival is being moved from Freedom Park in Algona to The Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood. The Diamond Jo Casino is a gambling casino and entertainment complex located just south of the Iowa/Minnesota border on Interstate 35 in Northwood. Rock Gone Wild is an all-ages festival, which will be held outdoors utilizing the casino and adjacent properties. RV and tent camping areas are available for the duration of the festival. The new venue is 110 miles south of Minneapolis and 135 miles north of Des Moines, which means fans who are flying into those areas will actually be closer to the venue than they would have been to the Algona site.
The festival will still be held on August 20-23. All previously sold tickets will be honored on the original dates. The festival organizers have announced the line-ups for each day of the festival:

3 CHANGE OF LOCATION FOR ROCK GONE WILD FESTIVAL!
Rock Gone Wild, America’s newest and most diverse rock festival, is on the move-literally.
Organizers of the show announced that the Iowa-based, four-day festival is being moved from Freedom Park in Algona to The Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood.
“The size of the festival necessitated the change,” stated Donnie Frizzell, managing partner of Rock Gone Wild. “Thus, the move to Diamond Jo’s will allow us to best serve the fans of the festival who have already bought tickets, all of the great bands we’ve booked, our employees and those who are still making plans to attend.”
“We’d like to thank everyone involved at Abate and the City of Algona who helped us prepare over the last year for the event. Unfortunately, after visiting the venue several times this year and also looking forward to next year, we decided to make the move to best serve the future of the festival, ” Nathalie Faghihi, festival general manager, added.
The Diamond Jo Casino is a gambling casino and entertainment complex located just south of the Iowa/Minnesota border on Interstate 35 in Northwood. The new venue is 110 miles south of Minneapolis and 135 miles north of Des Moines, which means fans who are flying into those areas will actually be closer to the venue than they would have been to the Algona site.
“This is the first four-day, mega rock, outdoors festival in the world that has aligned itself with a major casino location,” Frizzell said. “We want to offer all concert goers the ultimate experience to fulfill all of their entertainment desires. This is something Rock Gone Wild as an intellectual property will roll out worldwide in 2010.”
A list of hotels in the Clear Lake/Mason City and Albert Lea areas will be posted at the festival website this week. “There are more than 20 major hotels in the area to accommodate our fans,” Frizzell added.
“The move allows us to consolidate our festival operations into one premium site that is located just off a major highway,” Frizzell continued. “We will be able to set-up stages in one venue instead of two, and can use the hotel and casino to accommodate the bands, media and also give fans something to do after the music stops.”

Eddie Trunk, the popular host of VH1’s That Metal Show, will be in Algona for the entire day on August 22 (the entire schedule for the day is listed below) to bring on such classic rock acts as Twisted Sister, Skid Row and Lita Ford.

0 Rock Gone Wild Interview With Amored Saint’s John Bush
Rock Gone Wild, America’s newest and most diverse rock festival, will feature over 50 rock legends on two stages during the festival’s four-day run. One of those bands, L.A. metal gods Armored Saint, will be making its return to Iowa after playing the legendary Iowa Jam in 1986. We talked to Saint vocalist John Bush about that show and the band’s plans for this year’s RGW.
What do you remember about the Iowa Jam? “I remember the bands-Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Dokken, Metallica and us. It was at a racetrack in Des Moines (the show was held on May 26, 1986 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds), I believe. It was held the same night as a Van Halen concert downtown. It was the biggest show that we played in America. We’ve played many big shows in Europe (festivals), but that was the biggest for Armored Saint in the States. We were touring with Metallica at the time.
Was it a good show? One of my favorite bands, Aerosmith was a little shaky; I don’t think that they had reached that rehab period yet. Nugent was great, everyone did a good show. We went on at 11 a.m. or so, your typical opening slot at a festival. We played the night before in Chicago and spent the whole night on a bus to get to the show.
Any other Iowa memories? We did a great show with Dio in Cedar Rapids years after that. A few club shows, nothing like the Jam or Rock Gone Wild.
Why do you think that this sort of festival (Rock Gone Wild, others) plays out so well in the Midwest? People in the Midwest aren’t as trendy as those on the Coasts. They value entertainers and don’t get caught up in the scene as much. The fans in the Midwest are dedicated to a certain type of music-rock, country-and are loyal to it. I think it’s great.
What is Armored Saint up to these days? We’re working on a new record—we’re now about nine songs into it (note: RGW heard four of these songs while in L.A. in November, and they rock!). It should be out later this year or early next year. Metal Blade is still our label in the states; we’re working out some of the legal stuff for an international release.
Will any of these new songs feature in your set at RGW? Yes, one for sure; the rest of the set will be the typical Saint stuff.
What should the RGW fans expect from the show? We don’t play that much anymore, so when we do, we give it our all; it’s an event. It will be an in-your-face, high energy, metal fest. I expect the crowd to participate as well.
It’s rumored you are going to make a vacation out of your Midwest visit? Yeah, that’s true. My wife, Tori and I, and the family (John and Tori have two young children, daughter Jezebelle and son Guiseppe) are going to rent an RV and drive back thru Yellowstone after the show-make a vacation out of it.
If you had to pick five songs that best represent Armored Saint, what would they be? “March of the Saint,” “Can You Deliver,” “Nervous Man,” “Aftermath,” “Reign of Fire” maybe “Chemical Euphoria.” (Writer emphatically agrees but misses “Isolation.”)
Is it true you were offered the gig in Metallica after Cliff Burton died? I actually was invited to join the band around the Kill ‘Em All period. It was a hard decision, but Armored Saint was already up and running, and these guys (in Saint) were my childhood friends. Who knows what would have happened if I had? I don’t think about it much. Joey (Vera, Saint bassist) was one of the bassists that were asked to audition after Cliff passed, but never did.

1 Diverse Bands Join Rock Gone Wild Including Candlebox, Saxon and the Gypsy Pistoleros

Forming in the early 1990s, Candlebox immediately broke from their Seattle brethren. While many bands from the region followed the grunge path, Candlebox made their own way. Blending modern sound with classic guitar rock, Candlebox created their own unique sound – and gathered an army of fans along the way. The band’s self-titled debut became a near instant success, spawning several hit singles including “Far Behind” and “You.” Candlebox are currently supporting their newest hit album Into the Sun, released earlier this year. Candlebox is Kevin Martin (vocals, guitar), Peter Klett (guitar), Scott Mercado (drums), Adam Kury (bass) and Sean Hennesy (rhythm guitar).
Leading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon formed at the end of the 1970s and created a signature sound that new bands still attempt to imitate today. Saxon released their self-titled debut in 1979, but it wasn’t until 1980 and Wheels of Steel that the band really began to take hold. Since the early years, Saxon has weathered several lineup changes and continued to tour heavily and record new music. Lead singer Biff Byford has remained a constant force in the band, bringing a balls out in-your-face Metal show to each and every paying customer. Be warned! Mainstream rock stars Saliva are no strangers to the Billboard charts. As the band prepares to release their new album Cinco Diablo on Island later this month, Saliva will look to repeat past album success. Five albums, platinum records and many sold-out shows later, Saliva promises an in-your-face set on the main stage at Rock Gone Wild. Saliva is Josey Scott, Wayne Swinny, Dave Novotny, Paul Crosby and Jonathan Montoya.
Tantric rock harder with each passing year. Forming in 1999, the band has released three albums, reaching the much-coveted platinum status. Fans love the band’s self-titled debut, featuring the hit single “Breakdown.” Around for about a decade, Tantric has evolved and now embraces a heavier sound and invites an active pit at shows. The band released The End Begins earlier this year on their new label Silent Majority. Tantric is Hugo Ferreira, Richie Monica, Joe Pessia, Erik Leonhardt and Marcus Ratzenboeck.
Tigertailz bring an international flair to Rock Gone Wild. The Wales-based band formed in the 1980s and instantly gained fans, thanks in part to their image. Heavy make-up and wild hair became the calling card of Tigertailz. It doesn’t hurt that the band creates songs with memorable hooks. Tigertailz has released eight albums, with Bezerk spawning the band’s signature tune “Love Bomb Baby.” Tigertailz are Kim Hooker, Jay Pepper and Matt Blakout.

3 Superstar Rockers Puddle of Mudd Play Rock Gone Wild 2009
Puddle of Mudd currently have two singles climbing the charts and the band continues to circle the globe promoting their new album Famous. Planets aligned, deals were struck and Puddle of Mudd will be main stage at Rock Gone Wild. The festival is slated for August 20-23, 2009 in Algona, Iowa.
The guys in Puddle of Mudd are hardened road warriors and quite at home playing in front of capacity crowds. 2 Skid Row Added to Rock Gone Wild 2009
It makes sense that the “youth gone wild” would play Rock Gone Wild! New Jersey rockers Skid Row will play the inaugural Rock Gone Wild festival in Algona, Iowa August 20-23, 2009. Tickets are available now.
In the beginning, there were five guys that set out to make a name in the music world. It didn’t take long for said boys to become men among an already crowded 80s Metal scene. They didn’t play by the rules, and they didn’t care: Skid Row was destined for success. Success indeed: the band’s self titled debut and follow-up Slave to Grind are both multi-platinum. Since that time, Skid Row has continued to make records and tour tirelessly. These days, Johnny Solinger fronts the band – with more energy than ever. 2 Rhino Bucket Added to Rock Gone Wild 2009
Blue collar. Black leather. Hard times. Three phrases that California-based Rhino Bucket use to describe their sound. Countless others have compared Rhino Bucket to AC/DC. Rhino Bucket will bring their down and dirty sound to Algona, Iowa for the inaugural Rock Gone Wild festival. The festival is slated for August 20-23, 2009. Rock Gone Wild will feature more than 50 bands on two stages over four days of hard rock and heavy metal.
Formed in 1988, Rhino Bucket took a slightly different turn from the Sunset Strip Glam craze. Instead of sleazing it up, Rhino Bucket went a little harder, a little grittier, a little more down home rock n’ roll.
Like many 80s bands, Rhino Bucket had their share of ups and downs, breakups and member changes. After a lengthy hiatus, the band reformed in 2001 eventually recording And Then It Got Ugly in 2006. Rhino Bucket have six albums in their discography – and are working on lucky number seven. The band plans to release a new disc in 2009. Rhino Bucket is Georg Dolivo (vocals, guitar), Brian Forsythe (guitar), Reeve Downes (bass) and Simon Wright (drums).

They might come from different parts of North America, but in August 2009, Dangerous Toys, Junkyard and Helix will join forces in Algona, Iowa for the inaugural Rock Gone Wild festival. The festival is slated for August 20-23, 2009. Rock Gone Wild will feature more than 50 bands on two stages over four days of hard rock and heavy metal. The festival promises four decades of rock n’ roll debauchery at its finest!
Dangerous Toys formed in Texas in 1987. They immediately impacted radio and MTV with hits like “Teas’n, Pleas’n” and “Scared.” The band has released four studio albums, a live disc and a greatest hits compilation. The current Dangerous Toys lineup features Jason McMaster (vocals), Paul Lidel and Scott Dalhover (guitars), Mike Watson (bass) and Mark Geary (drums).
Like many bands from the 1980s, blues-based rockers Junkyard saw their beginnings in Los Angeles. Forming in 1987, the band got their start with a little cash from Geffen Records. The band made some demos and later released a self-titled debut album. Junkyard has released seven albums, including early demos, live cuts and the recent Put It on Ten and Pull the Knobs Off! The current Junkyard lineup features David Roach (vocals), Chris Gates (guitar and vocals), Tim Mosher (guitar), Todd Muscat (bass) and Patrick Muzingo (drums).
Canadian rockers Helix formed in 1974 and hit their stride in the early 1980s, releasing songs like “Heavy Metal Love” and “Rock You.” To date, Helix has well over a dozen albums to their credit. That discography will grow as Helix prepares to release A Heavy Metal Christmas in the next few weeks. The current Helix line-up features Brian Vollmer (vocals), Paul Fonseca (bass), Jim Lawson (guitar), Rick VanDyk (guitar) and Brent Niemi (drums).
Dangerous Toys, Junkyard and Helix will join Saigon Kick on the Rock Gone Wild festival roster. Rock Gone Wild marks the only festival appearance for Saigon Kick – featuring Matt Kramer and Phil Varone – in 2009.
