0 Bobaflex at Rock on The Range
Bobaflex is a band that I thought was one of the better surprises at Rock on the Range. I have the band’s album Tales From Dirt Town, so I knew some of their songs, but I have not seen them live prior to Rock on the Range. Much to my surprise, most of the songs in their set came from their latest album, Hell In My Heart. I haven’t picked up the CD before Rock on the Range, but it didn’t matter. Bobaflex’s set kicked ass. The McCoy brothers know how to rock a crowd, and there was a ton of people in attendance for the headlining show on the Jaegermeister stage at Rock on the Range. I have to admit, that Bobaflex fell off my radar for quite some time, but after seeing them live, they are a band that I will be paying attention to. I loved their set, and especially loved their cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic “Sound of Silence”. If you haven’t checked out Bobaflex before, check out their videos below. I think you will like them!
Bobaflex set list at Rock on the Range included the songs: “Chemical Valley”, “Home”, “Vampire”, “Sound of Silence”, “Low Life”,” Bury Me With Guns On”, “Rise”, “Dangerous”, and “Slave”
0 In This Moment at Rock on The Range – Mini Review & Photo Gallery
Before In This Moment took the stage at Rock on the Range, I had no idea what to expect. I have never seen the band perform live. I knew a lot of their music, and thought they would be one of the heaviest bands on the two day bill at ROTR. The band has played several festivals including Ozzfest and Mayhem, but this is the first time they performed at Rock on the Range.
When the band came out, I didn’t know whether to be terrified or extremely entertained. Once the beautiful Maria Brink and her ghastly band mates took the stage, I knew without question, it would be the latter. With the exception of Maria Brink, all of the members of In This Moment had their faces painted in a dark charcoal color, and masks over the lower part of their faces. In This Moment has a couple of newer members with Tom Hane on drums and Randy Weitzel on rhythm guitar, but face paint aside, you would have never known it.
Maria’s powerful vocals was the driving force behind the tight set the band played at ROTR. In This Moment played a few songs from their up and coming CD Blood. Based on the new songs I heard, In this Moment is going to have a very big year in the hard rock and metal world. Their set was definitely one of the highlights at the 2012 Rock on the Range.
You can check out the title track “Blood” below. Please check out our In This Moment gallery from Rock on the Range as well.
0 Listen to Eve to Adams Cover of Alice Coopers Schools Out; Eve to Adam Photo Gallery From Rock on The Range Available
One of the bands I got to see for the first time at Rock on the Range, is New York City’s Eve to Adam. I liked their set at Rock on the Range a lot, but the song I knew best is their cover of Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out”. While I don’t think anyone could ever top the original song, I think Eve to Adam’s cover of it is pretty decent. It rounded out a pretty good set for them at Rock on the Range.
Eve to Adam have released the song as their new single. The track was recorded during a two day break, while on tour with Creed, at Vudu studios in Long Island. The new single has been climbing the charts since hitting radio last week and was played by Alice himself on his syndicated radio show Nights with Alice Cooper. “School’s Out” is available on iTunes. You can check out the song, and our Eve to Adam photo gallery from Rock on the Range below!

0 Success and Accolades Follow ‘World’s Loudest Month’ Festivals: Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, Rockfest, Rock On The Range and Rocklahoma
Don’t believe the hype that rock n’ roll is dead… The World’s Loudest Month has officially come to a conclusion for 2012 having hosted over 100 artists and played for more than 200,000 rock music fans across the country on five consecutive weekends. Created in partnership by AEG Live and Right Arm Entertainment, the World’s Loudest Month featured the biggest names in rock music performing throughout five distinct concert atmospheres in what can only be described as the official confirmation the often-maligned genre is thriving.
“The World’s Loudest Month is a testament not only to the artists that are grouped into this format but to the fans that have always shown their loyalty by spending their hard-earned money to come out and support what we do,” said Joe Litvag, co-executive producer of four of the five WLM festivals. “Every time I hear someone say that rock is going away or read articles that talk about the demise of rock, I smile. Rock music is alive and well and growing, and the success of the World’s Loudest Month proves just that.”
Kicking the month off was the return of Welcome to Rockville in Jacksonville , FL on Sunday, April 29. Taking place at Metropolitan Park, this one-day concert drew a sell-out crowd and saw performances from 24 local and national rock artists including: Shinedown, Korn, Evanescence, Five Finger Death Punch & many more.
Just up the road in Rockingham, NC, the 2nd Annual Carolina Rebellion got started with a campground party on Friday, May 4, and on Saturday, May 5 over 30,000 fans converged on Rockingham Speedway and were treated to performances by Five Finger Death Punch, Staind, P.O.D., Evanescence as well as an epic moment during Korn’s set with former guitarist Head joining the band on-stage for the first time in seven years.
The third weekend in the World’s Loudest Month delivered the biggest one-day rock music festival in the United States with RockFest in Kansas City on May 12. Celebrating its 20th year and cementing itself in concert history, the legendary event sold-out for the 8th consecutive year with 55,000 in attendance. Fifteen bands rocked for over 12 hours, including Adelitas Way, Theory of a Deadman, Slash, Volbeat, Cavo & more. As an added bonus, headliners Shinedown filmed the live performance video for their upcoming single “Unity” in front of the massive ‘sea of people’ that only RockFest can bring.
May 18-20 featured the nation’s most-acclaimed active rock festival, Rock on the Range in Columbus, OH at Crew Stadium. Kicking off ROTR’s 6th year, the party started on Friday night with the “Friday Night 4Play” featuring Foxy Shazam and Black Tide. Saturday saw sets by Incubus, Shinedown, Chevelle, P.O.D., Five Finger Death Punch and Cypress Hill. Sunday’s highlights included sets by acts like The Darkness, Volbeat, Anthrax, Megadeth, and for the first time ever, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson on the same stage. Once again the fans and bands showed that Rock on the Range truly is “Where Rock Lives.”
The World’s Loudest Month concluded in Pryor, OK on Memorial Day Weekend with Rocklahoma, a three-day camping festival unlike any other. Over 30,000 fans celebrated the Holiday by enjoying bands on four different stages, and memorable performances included sets by Creed, Rob Zombie, Chickenfoot, Megadeth, Jackyl, Theory of a Deadman, Cavo, Slash, Volbeat, Puddle of Mudd and Hellyeah. And, for the first time ever, over 30 million fans throughout the United States could check out eight full hours of live concert coverage from Rocklahoma on Mark Cuban’s ‘HDNet’ helping to spread the word of Rocklahoma: “Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Rock.”
Gary Spivack of Right Arm Entertainment adds, “We’re finally able to come up for air after an amazing month. The World’s Loudest Month proves to the planet that rock n’ roll is alive and kicking doors down. Right Arm is already looking forward to making WLM in 2013 even bigger and better. To echo what our partner Joe Litvag said—any demise of rock music by critics and naysayers has been greatly misguided.”

0 Cavo At Rock On the Range
One of the bands I had the pleasure of seeing and shooting at Rock on the Range this year was St. Louis, Missouri’s Cavo. Cavo is no stranger to Rock On the Range. 2012 was their third trip to this massive Columbus, Ohio music festival. Ironically, their video “Celebrity” includes live clips of the band’s 2011 appearance at Rock On The Range. I liked the band’s sophomore effort, Bright Nights Dark Days, but I haven’t seen them play live since the Crüe Fest 2 in 2009. I enjoyed their set, and thought their new songs were pretty good. I will definitely be picking up their new album, Thick as Thieves, as a result of seeing this show.
If you haven’t given Cavo a listen, you should definitely check them out.
1 New Medicine at Rock On The Range
One of the cool bands that I was able to photo at Rock at the Range is Minneapolis, Minnesota’s New Medicine. If you haven’t checked this band out yet, you ought to give their CD, Race You To the Bottom a listen. It is a pretty cool blend of rock and pop, and has quite a few tunes worth checking out. You can check out all of the videos released for Race You to the Bottom below. Our photo gallery and slideshow from Rock On the Range is below as well.

4 Vie’s Verses – Upcoming Hard Rock Festivals Worth Visiting
Spring has finally arrived. Gone are the cold, snowy days of winter and entering are the warmer, sunny days of spring. And with the arrival of spring, summer and the summer hard rock festivals are right around the corner. Rock festivals are the best way to enjoy some of your favorite bands all at once without breaking the bank. The only challenge is deciding which festival to attend. For this edition of Vie’s Verses, I’ve outlined some of the most promising festivals of 2011 both in the USA and Europe (for you world travelers).
Europe
For those fans that are a little more daring, or just wish to see another country while they enjoy their metal, Europe has some great rock festivals to attend. Below are the two most popular festivals. They are also the two with the hottest lineups in rock.
Download Festival – June 10th – June 12th
Taking place in Donington Park, UK, Download Festival is a world renowned metal fest. Every year, Download is able to secure some of the biggest names in rock and this year is no exception. With acts like Def Leppard, Alter Bridge, System Of A Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Linkin Park, Black Stone Cherry, The Gaslight Anthem, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, and Twisted Sister gracing the stage, Download simply rocks. Ticket packages are available that include camping for 5 nights and access to all three days of the concert starting at 190 pounds, which is roughly 380 American dollars. If you plan on visiting the UK this summer, early June would be the perfect time to attend.
Wacken – August 4th – August 6th
If you haven’t already obtained your tickets for this festival, then all I can say is good luck. Wacken is officially sold out, but tickets can be found through various ticket broker sites across the internet. Taking place in Schleswig Holstein, Germany for the past 20 years, Wacken is one of the most well known international metal festivals in existence. This year’s bands on the bill include: Airborne, Bullet, Crashdiet, Helloween, Iced Earth, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Sepultura, and Suicidal Tendencies. If you like British or Swedish heavy metal, this is the one place where you can see a lot of those bands. Since this festival is officially sold out (for the sixth year in a row) ticket prices can range anywhere from just over face value to ridiculously insane.
USA
If travelling abroad is not your thing, there are plenty of great festivals to attend right here in the good old United States of America. Below are some of the most well known and popular spring/summer rock fests for 2011.
M3 Festival – May 13th – May 14th
The M3 Festival is a hair metal lover’s delight. Taking place in Columbia, Maryland, M3 is in its third year and just keeps getting better and better. The lineup this year includes Kix, LA Guns, Warrant, Hurtsmile, Faster Pussycat, Mr. Big, Slaughter, Sebastian Bach, Tesla, and Whitesnake. Tickets can be purchased for an affordable $45 for lawn seats. Seats in the amphitheater go for $95, and for those wanting to get the whole VIP experience, VIP tickets are available for $195. With so many great bands on the bill, this is the festival to attend if you love hair metal.
Rock On The Range – May 21st – May 22nd
Celebrating their fifth year of rocking the masses at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, Rock On The Range is a modern rock lover’s dream festival. No classic or hair metal bands are featured here. Rock On The Range only brings the new rock. Acts that are performing this year include: Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Pop Evil, Hinder, Black Label Society, Alter Bridge, Staind, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, and A Perfect Circle. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and cost between $100 – $130 before fees. Single day tickets can be had for $60 – $70 before fees. If modern rock is your thing, then Rock On The Range is your festival.
Rocklahoma – May 27th – May 29th
Rocklahoma is celebrating their fifth year of entertaining hard rock fans in Pryor, Oklahoma. What started out as one of the best hair metal festivals in existence has recently morphed into a hair metal/modern rock fest. While last year’s bill was not so solid, this year’s offering more than makes up for it. With featured acts Motley Crue, Poison, Whitesnake, Staind, Black Label Society, Papa Roach, Hinder, Skillet, and Pop Evil all performing, this looks to be one fine weekend for music lovers. Granted, there are a lot of bands on the bill that I never heard of, but there are a lot of bands on the bill that are exceptional. Camping is available on site and ticket prices for this festival range from $139 for general admission to $350 for VIP. For a three-day event, those are decent prices.
Rock Fest – July 14th – July 17th
Rock fest has been around for 18 years. Taking place in Cadott, Wisconsin, this festival mixes hard rock acts both old and new. This is a great festival for fans of multiple metal genres. This year’s acts include Avenged Sevenfold, Hinder, Kid Rock, Cinderella, Slaughter, Three Days Grace, Rob Zombie, Saliva, Seether, Tesla, Heart, and Def Leppard. Tickets are a little pricey compared with other summer festivals, but with the bands on this bill, the entertainment value is high. General admission tickets go for $155, while reserved seating is $250, and the all access VIP experience is $500.
Rock USA – July 14th – July 16th
Solid rock. No Limits. That is the slogan for Rock USA, the rock music festival being held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. There are definitely some solid rock bands on the bill for this fest. Featured acts include: Journey, Cheap Trick, Puddle Of Mudd, Buckcherry, Warrant, Dokken, Korn, and festival headliners, Kiss. If you purchase your tickets prior to May 6th, a three-day pass can be had for $79. After May 6th, the price increases to $129. The early bird gets the discount. Rock USA offers a multitude of VIP packages that range between $89 – $329, if purchased by May 6th. Prices for the VIP packages spike after that date. With a mix of classic and modern bands, Rock USA looks to be a great summer metal festival.
And there you have it—full information for some of the greatest rock festivals of 2011. Which ones are you planning to attend?

The unforgettable weekend will also be highlighted by performances from Danzig, Hollywood Undead, Bullet For My Valentine, Black Label Society and Alter Bridge. In addition, Juliya of Fuse TV will return as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.
“Three years ago my other band Ashes Divide was fortunate enough to play Rock On The Range as a support act; to return to the same festival and headline this year with A Perfect Circle is truly an honor,” says Billy Howerdel of A Perfect Circle.
“We are honored that Rock On The Range has asked us be one of the headliners,” says M Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. “Not only is it an amazing show to be apart of, but it holds a deep spot in our hearts. Rock On The Range was the last American show we played with our best friend and drummer, The Rev. We are looking forward to continuing his legacy of rock n roll insanity that night! See you all there.”
“If you suffer from stimulus overload, the fifth anniversary of Rock On The Range may be too much for you,” quips Del Williams, co-executive producer of the event for Right Arm Entertainment. “Virtually all of the bands that make up the top of the Active Rock charts are performing at America’s biggest Rock festival. When you look at the acts on the bill, and think of the massive list of songs that live in the body of that lineup, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with excitement.”
The ROCK ON THE RANGE celebration will start early on Friday night, May 20 with the nation’s biggest pre-festival Anniversary Party at the venue, featuring performances from two of the world’s craziest throwback rock artists–Steel Panther and Lez Zeppelin. Best of all, your ticket to the Anniversary Party will be absolutely FREE with every ROCK ON THE RANGE weekend ticket purchase!
“It seems like only yesterday that we created this vision for an active rock festival in the heartland, but it’s actually been five years now.” comments Joe Litvag, co-executive producer of the event for AEG Live. “If it weren’t for the loyal fan base of active rock fans, the ‘Rangers,’ Rock On The Range would still just be an idea on the back of a napkin! We can’t think of a better way to say ‘thank you’ then to throw a big FREE party for everyone! It will be a night of unmatched celebration!”

5 Rockitt Rant – A Breakdown of the 2010 Music Festivals
It seems to me that this year, as well as in years past, Europe has been kicking the United States ass when it comes to major music festivals. I decided to breakdown some of major festivals this year and see which ones provided the most bang for your buck.
The Download Festival is quite possibly the biggest music festival anywhere. The promoters for this festival understand that if you want to draw a lot of people, you have to have a major headliner. This year, the Download festival has more than one with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Megadeth on the same bill. Add Motorhead, Rage Against The Machine, and Stone Temple Pilots to the bill, and you have the makings of one incredible rock show. The lineup for this festival is already stout, and they will be adding more bands soon. Will Aerosmith implode before then? Who knows? I imagine the paycheck must be pretty fat for big rock shows. Maybe money has healed all wounds with them. I know that if I lived in Europe, there is no question where I would be that weekend. This festival drew 120,000 in 2009, and will probably exceed that in 2010.
The six festivals I chose are Download, The Stockholm Rockout, The Sweden Rock Festival, Rock on the Range, Rocklahoma, and M3. There are many more that I didn’t consider in this including Sonisphere and Hard Rock Hell. Any way you look at it, Europe has the U.S. beat on major rocks festivals.
Why is the United States getting the major shaft on major festivals? What can be done to turn this around? What are your thoughts about this? This rock fan is fed up!

Stockholm Rock Out is a newer festival that is comparable to M3 in Columbia, Maryland. This festival has a solid lineup, although there are no real headliners. There are twenty bands performing over the two days of this festival, many of which you will not see perform in the United States. Is it worth $166 dollars? Probably not.

The Sweden Rock Festival has been around since ’98, and seems to get bigger and better every year. This multi-day festival has a good mix of hard rock and heavy metal. It would be this metalhead’s dream to see some of the band’s on this bill play live. With 4 days at $295.00, the price is pretty steep for the average rocker. I am guessing most folks will buy a single day ticket, and catch some of their favorite bands and live with it.

The M3 Rock Festival is a hair metal festival in Columbia, Maryland that is celebrating its second year. This is the only music festival that I attended last year, and will probably be the only one in 2010 as well. If you are really low on dough, you can cough up $35.00 for a lawn seat (an pray it doesn’t rain). The average price in the pavilion is $75.00. For 14 bands this isn’t a bad deal at all, although I admit there are a couple of bands on the bill that I could skip. Seeing the Scorpions on their farewell tour is a must! I am looking forward to this one!

Rock on the Range has become the premiere modern rock festival in the U.S. This is the festival’s fourth year, and the festival promoters always manage collect a large amount of radio friendly bands. This year, I believe the festival lineup is a lot weaker than the 2009 bill which had Motley Crue, Slipknot, Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold and Buckcherry but it is still a solid bill nonetheless. No single day tickets are available for this show, which is a complete disappointment to me. Is Godsmack or Rob Zombie a true festival headliner? I don’t think so. This festival typically draws about 60,000 over the two day event. My guess is, this year it will be less.

Wow, I understand that the folks at Rocklahoma nearly lost their shirts last year, but this new direction is not a good one. Something had to change, as the attendance was absolutely abysmal in 2009. AEG has taken this hard rockin’ hair metal festival and turned it into Rock on the Range part 2. In years past, Rocklahoma was a destination music festival. Now it is a regional one at best. They still haven’t figured out that you need a headliner to draw folks to a show. While I like ZZ Top & Godsmack, they really are not headliners. While I love Tesla and Cinderella, having them on the bill isn’t enough for me to travel to a multi-day festival. They at least got it right by moving the date to Memorial weekend, when it isn’t 105 degrees in Oklahoma. I am betting that they have alienated the majority of the folks who attended (or played) in this festival in the past. M3 will continue to grow as a result of this. Will the attendance be better than last year? Yes. Will it exceed 25,000 for the three days? Highly doubtful.

0 Art of Dying – S/T (2006)
In January 2007 Classic Rock Magazine hand picked Art of Dying as one of the Top 15 Bands To Watch worldwide. CRM’s recommendation did not fall on deaf ears.
The band has been out on the road with may of today’s biggest hard rock acts including Seether, Saliva, Hinder and Papa Roach. The band is opening up for Disturbed’s 2008. I saw them for the first time last Wednesday night, but has only gotten to know a couple of their songs prior to that show.
Art of Dying is a modern rock band, featuring the awesome vocals of Tony Hetherington. At times Hetherington’s vocals can be velvety smooth, and other other times have a rough edge that drives the harder tunes.
There are several good cuts on this disc including Get Through This, Completely, Inside It’s Raining and Fits of Clarity. Several U.S. stations have picked up the song Get Through This. This song has the potential to be a monster hit for Art of Dying.
The only drawback I can see with AOD, is that their sound is somewhat derivative of the modern hard rock acts of today. Their sound is not original, and as a result, they may get lost amongst the more popular artists out there.
To their credit, the five gentleman making up Art of Dying have crafted a fine hard rock disc, that will be getting a lot of spins from me now. I like this disc, and think a bunch of you will too. If you like bands like Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman, or Daughtry, definitely look into Art of Dying. Their CD is not available in the U.S. except through online retailers like See of Sound.com.
Check out Art of Dying on their myspace page!

0 Stone Temple Pilots Ready to Roll
Stone Temple Pilots have made some additions and changes to their North American reunion tour ahead of its May 17 launch.
The band will start with a headlining performance at the Rock on the Range Festival in Columbus, OH, and then make its way through a variety of venues and festivals across the US and Canada through fall. Dates currently stretch through STP’s October appearance at the New Orleans Voodoo Music Festival, though the outing is expected to expand into November, according to the group’s website.
Since last check, second nights have been added in Detroit and Las Vegas, and shows have been booked in Wallingford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Woodlands, TX; Elizabeth, IN; and Montreal. An updated itinerary is listed below.
Stone Temple Pilots announced their reunion tour in Los Angeles last month, when they performed publicly for the first time in nearly six years.
After forming the band in 1992, the grunge-rockers–frontman Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz–recorded five studio albums and went on to sell more than 35 million copies worldwide, according to a press release. They parted ways after completing a tour behind 2001’s “Shangri-La Dee Da,” which is their most recent studio album.
Weiland went on to join Velvet Revolver, which parted ways with the singer last month amid a volley of acrimonious press releases. The DeLeo brothers co-founded rock quartet Army of Anyone with Filter frontman Richard Patrick and former David Lee Roth Band drummer Ray Luzier, but that band slipped into hibernation following its 2006 self-titled debut.
Robert DeLeo recently told Billboard that STP will probably record a new album once the tour wraps.
