0 Theory Of A Deadman on Rockline Tonight!
We like to invite certain guests to join us a couple of times for each album, if it’s warranted, of course. Having a successful album will go a long way toward making that happen. Hey, we’ll even go three deep if there’s a live performance involved. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s hard to believe it was last March when Theory of a Deadman joined us for the national radio debut of “Scars and Souvenirs”. We must have been having fun because the time has certainly flown.
During that time, Theory has enjoyed the most successful period of their rapidly growing career. It took a band the caliber of Metallica to recently knock “Bad Girlfriend” out of the number one slot on the rock radio charts. It now occupies the number two hole (behind some heavyweight company) and has charted for 20 consecutive weeks. All this comes on the heels of “So Happy”, which enjoyed similar success and a top two chart posting. But chart numbers are only a tiny measure of what an album is all about and “Scars and Souvenirs” shows the depth and breadth that are the hallmarks of good old Rock & Roll.
The album is perfectly balanced with a range of emotions: anger, humor, betrayal, turmoil, resolution and resolve, just to log a few. And if there’s anything Theory has gotten better at with each release it’s making sure their music sticks in your head. On this third album, they’re making the creation of good songs seem like anyone could do it, because their music feels natural and just right. But if anyone could we’d all be doing it, right?
Theory is in the midst of a full blown tour right now…they’re full fledged headliners now. You can find all of the dates at TheoryofADeadman.com and on their My Space site as well. We will catch up with the Vancouver, BC based band in the Midwest, Michigan specifically, and see if there have been any major changes since they joined us half of a year ago. We’re expecting the entire band to join us to talk about their music, take your calls and play some songs on the radio for you. We’ve welcomed Canadian bands to ROCKLINE for as long as we can remember and there seems to be a common trait, they’re all polite and tend to be stand up guys. (They must hate hearing that but it’s true.) We had one of the most legendary “north of the border” bands of all time join us and they were asked about exactly that and simply replied, “We’re nice Canadian lads, we’re taught to be that way”. They apparently learn well, but just because the guys in Theory are decent folks doesn’t mean they’re boring or uninteresting. It just means it’s highly unlikely you’ll be seeing them on the police blotter or on the next TMZ, which means we can talk about their music. That’s why we’ve invited them back, they make good music and that’s reason enough.

3 Theory of a Deadman – Scars & Souvenirs (Release Year – 2008)
Theory of a Deadman got their first break, when Chad Kroeger from Nickelback signed the band to his label, 604 Records. Scars & Souvenirs is the bands’ third release, but the first one that I have picked up.
Two things made me pick up Scars & Souvenirs. The song So Happy has gotten a lot of airplay on our local radio station, 96 Rock. The band is also the headliner of a concert, that Airbourne is opening up for tomorrow night.
I don’t recall hearing T.O.A.D.’s tunes prior to this record, and I can hear a definite similarity between their music, and Nickelbacks’ tunes. If you don’t like the latter band, you probably won’t enjoy T.O.A.D.’s music either. For those of you that do, you are going to find quite a few songs to enjoy on Scars & Souvenirs. There are at least 4 or 5 songs that could be singles on this record, if not more. I prefer the harder numbers on this record, therefore the songs, So Happy, Crutch, Bad Girlfriend and Little Smirk are my current favorites. I also like the tunes, All or Nothing and Heaven, both of which are balladesque tunes that could be massive hits for T.O.A.D.
Theory of a Deadman has two platinum albums in Canada, and without a doubt, this will be their third. Will this be their first platinum album in the U.S.? With the right amount of support, it just might. Theory of a Deadman has put together a very solid modern rock album that should have mass appeal. Scars & Souvenirs was a nice surprise, and worth picking up for fans of bands like Hinder, Nickelback and Daughtry.
