German metal powerhouse AFM Records has an array of brand new titles slated for North American release in the weeks ahead, and we aim to fill you in on what’s in store…
Scheduled to hit the streets on May 3, 2011 are new albums from SHAKRA, SUIDAKRA and VOODOO CIRCLE:

SHAKRA
Back On Track
The rise of SHAKRA continues! It seems like nothing can stop the successful Switzerland-based hard rock force, as their previous album Everest fought its way all the way to #4 on the Swiss album charts in 2009. Since Everest, the band have recruited new vocalist John Prakesh, and showcase their newly refined lineup on their latest piece of work, Back On Track. Recorded and produced at the renowned Power Ride Studios with the band’s own guitarist Thom Blunier, the new album is quite varied from previous releases, as SHAKRA´s catchy rock moves in some slightly new directions. Prakesh´s voice allows the unit to combine the classic SHAKRA sound with the most passionate, soulful and energetic vocals the band ever offered. [http://www.shakra.ch]

SUIDAKRA
Book of Dowth
German Celtic metal warriors SUIDAKRA have trampled audiences at major festival appearances and tours all over Europe, Asia, Russia and North America since their inception in 1994. Having toured with everyone from Children of Bodom, Tristania, Soilwork and more, and are currently embarked on a European tour with labelmates Onslaught, continuing to reap worldwide mass appeal and expanding their diehard fanbase as they have with each release to date. Now in 2011, SUIDAKRA proudly deliver their mammoth tenth full-length Book of Dowth to the masses! Recorded in Gernhart Studio (Destruction, Elvenking) and produced by Martin Buchwalter, Book of Dowth provides fans with some of the most epic tunes and tales to date over its glorious ten tracks. VOODOO CIRCLE
Broken Heart Syndrome
The second album from supergroup VOODOO CIRCLE has arrived. Comprised of several musicians who hail from the classic hard rock elite including David Readman (Pink Cream 69), Mat Sinner (Sinner, Primal Fear) and Alex Beyrodt (Silent Force), the new album, Broken Heart Syndrome, pays full homage to bands like Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow and Yngwie Malmsteen, all major lifelong inspirations to every member of the outfit. Mixed by Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Krokus, Allen/Lande) and produced by Alex Beyrodt, the twelve, bold anthems on Broken Heart Syndrome undoubtedly solidify why the musicians that form VOODOO CIRCLE are heralded as being at the top of their game, and makes this album a must-hear for all fans of the “classic” eras of metal and hard rock. And scheduled for release on May 31, 2011 in North America, is the new release from German metal gods U.D.O.:

U.D.O.
Rev-Raptor
Longevity, integrity and constancy; these are the hallmarks of German metal kings U.D.O. Formed by two former members of Accept — Udo Dirkschneider (vocals) and Stefan Kaufmann (guitar) — U.D.O. have been flying their triumphant flag since their 1987 formation, but their 2009-released Dominator was a true triumph for the band, as the endless praise from fans and metal critics alike will attest. Since Dominator’s release, fans have been venomously awaiting the follow-up, and the wait is now over, as their thirteenth studio album, entitled Rev-Raptor, is confirmed for stateside release on May 31! On the thirteen-track album, U.D.O. provide the logical successor to Dominator; its concise rhythms and machine-like grooves are a perfect complement to the traditional and as usual outstanding songwriting of the band, and Dirkschneider’s incisive voice as always triumphantly at the forefront of the action.[http://www.udo-online.de]

1 SHAKRA PRESENT NEW SINGER JOHN PRAKESH!!!
Swiss Hard Rock giants SHAKRA are happy to present their new singer, John Prakesh:
After many weeks of intensive searching for a new singer, we are now very happy to announce that we finally found our new frontman. It is the Swiss guy JOHN PRAKESH who originates in India! John lives in Zuzwil(SG), is 30 years old and was the lead singer of the Hardrock band “Prakesh” up to now.
John has left behind more than 100 competitors (some of them very prominent) and impressed us in many ways! On one hand, we are totally delighted with the sound of John’s voice and his singing skills. On the other hand, he is a really nice, open-minded guy with a good sense of humor! We have now worked with John in the Studio as well as in the rehearsal room, and also had some longer conversations. We couldn’t be happier when looking ahead into the future! Welcome JOHN PRAKESH!
Here is what John says: “I am very happy to be a new Bandmember of SHAKRA. The decision to join that Supergroup was made very easy for me because of the cordiality of the musicians and the whole team. The beautiful welcome has touched me deeply. I am really looking forward to the challenge of working together with these great musicians.”
The first show with the new formation will take place on the 8.November in the TV-Broadcast “Die Grössten Schweizer Hits”, and we will rock some live-concerts starting in March 2010. For News, please check our Homepage (http://www.shakra.ch) with regularity.
Last but not least, thanks to our Fan-Club, our business-partners, our sponsors and all SHAKRA-Fans for the kind words in the last couple of months and we are looking forward to meeting them all again in the near future!

1 Shakra – Everest (2009)
“Everest” may be the best release of Swiss rockers Shakra’s career, but shortly after its release the band announced vocalist Mark Fox would be leaving the band due to conflicts with Shakra’s business partners. What a shame because Fox’s vocals on “Everest” are his best performance in the six years he has been with Shakra.
“Ashes To Ashes” gets “Everest” started off, this heavy melodic rocker has a great intro with a tight groove from the rhythm section of Dominik Pfister (bass) and Roger Tanner (drums). Lead guitarist Thom Blunier puts on a great solo as well, very hard not to do the ol’ head bang with this song. “Love & Pain” is up next heavier and slower than “Ashes To Ashes” but just as melodic the band as a whole sounds great on this song but Pfister & Tanner may well be on their way to becoming my favorite rhythm section. “Let Me Lie My Life To You” is one of my favorite tracks on the album, a great melodic rocker with some great sing along verses and choruses guitarists Blunier and Thomas Muster absolutely smoke this song. “the Illusion of Reality” is a slow, moody rocker that picks up at the chorus, I just can’t get over how tight the band sounds on this album. “Why?” is power ballad with a nice acoustic intro and some nice piano pieces throughout kind of sounds like a mix of Gotthard/Scorpions. “the Journey” starts out a slow, thumping rocker that kicks in before the first verse then slows down and speeds up throughout at 4 minutes this song would be awesome but at 8 minutes long I am ready to get to the next track. Blunier pulls of a nice solo but does it really need to be 3 minutes long? As soon as “Regressive Evolution” starts so does the foot tapping great song and Pfister’s bass sounds great as well. “Anybody Out There” is another song I would consider a favorite on “Everest” a mid tempo rocker that sounds like it would get over big in a live setting. “Right Between The Eyes” and “Dirty Money” are solid rockers that should go over well live. “Insanity” has stadium written all over it, another favorite of mine. Blunier once again pulls off a great solo. “Hopeless” is the album closer with some nice piano and strings included but I just never understand it when a band closes an album with a ballad.
The remaining members of Shakra are going to continue without Fox, in fact if you think you’re their man send a demo-song or just an e-mail to infos@shakra.ch . Whoever they decide on as the next singer are going to have some big shoes to fill, especially after Fox’s performance on “Everest” . Otherwise you can check out Shakra at http://www.myspace.com/shakrarock or www.shakra.ch.

0 SHAKRA NEWS: MARK FOX LEAVES SHAKRA / NEW SINGER WANTED!!!

We just received the following news from AFM Records regarding the band, SHAKRA:
Dear SHAKRA-Fans
Quite recently, we were informed by Mark about his intention to leave the band by the end of October and we took note of it. Mark feels that some of the contractual agreements between the band and their business environment are too much to his disadvantage.
The remaining four band members however don’t see themselves put in a disadvantage by their business partners. On the contrary, it is not least thanks to the management, booking-agency and record label’s professional contribution that the success of SHAKRA was made possible.
All band members have been able to harvest the fruits of the hard work they’ve done for us in the past years. It is only natural that people around the band earn money for this too. We wish Mark all the best for his private and musical future. It is important for us to let the SHAKRA-Fans know, that we consider our chosen path to be the right one and that we will continue to follow this way with all that lies in our power. After Mark’s departure, we will continue to work together with the same business partners and keep our passion – SHAKRA – burning, with a new singer on our side.
Thom, Thomas, Roger, Dominik
NEW SINGER WANTED!!!
Due to Mark will leave SHAKRA this fall, we’re looking for a new singer! If you think you’re our man send a demo-song or just an e-mail! infos@shakra.ch
0 New Video – Shakra – Ashes to Ashes

Shakra has released their second video in support of their new CD, “Everest”. Check out “Ashes to Ashes” below.
0 Shakra – Infected (Release Year – 2007)
Another hot release in 2007 is the new disc Infected by Swiss rockers, Shakra. This band reminds me of a cross between Gotthard, Pink Cream 69, and a dash of the Scorpions and Def Leppard for good measure. If you like any of those bands, then Infected may be a disc for you to check out.
This is very good 80’s style metal release. There are plenty of great vocals by Mark Fox, and lots of excellent guitar work throughout this disc by the guitar tandem of Thom Blunier and Thomas Muster. Most of the songs on this disc are upbeat semi heavy rockers, but this disc does have a slower moment or two.
The video below is for the excellent low tempo number, Love Will Find A Way.
Infected is one of those discs that you have to hear to appreciate. I have given this one quite a few spins, and seemingly enjoy more with every listen. It also mixes well with my playlist that is a good mix of 80’s through 00’s hard rock and metal.
I recommend checking out some of the band’s other songs off of Infected, on their myspace page here. You can pick up Shakra’s infected at CD Inzane, and Impulse Music. All other U.S. retailers sell this disc at import prices.
