The Veer Union was founded in 2004 by singer/songwriter Crispin Earl from Vancouver, Canada. The band made their mark in 2009 with the top 10 hit single “Seasons” off their debut album Against The Grain, which peaked at #7 and was the longest charting rock song for a new artist all year. It became the theme song for the 2009 Stanley Cup winners, the Pittsburgh Penguins. “Seasons” was also featured in all Major League Baseball postseason telecast as well as NFL, NASCAR, ESPN, WWE, NHL and more.
Pavement Entertainment now brings you the “Deluxe Edition” of Divide The Blackened Sky which includes three new songs and re-mastered tracks. Frontman Crispin Earl said of the album,“Divide The Blackened Sky,is a much darker and heavier effort than our previous works. It depicts all the hard times we have been through over the last couple of years.” The band will be supporting this effort with a full tour, a new single and video for the single “Borderline” which can be viewed at Revolvermag.com.

0 The Veer Union – Divide The Blackened Sky (2012)
Like any vice, The Veer Union is enjoyed more and more over time. At first listen, Divide The Blackened Sky is a decent record that has some potential. After a few listens, it is recognized more as a great album that needs to be heard. After several listens, it is classified as one of the strongest modern rock releases this year that everyone needs to hear.
Divide The Blackened Sky is the sophomore effort for modern rock darlings, The Veer Union. Following up their successful debut, Against The Grain, The Veer Union have released another album filled with modern rock delights. Hard rocking power riffs, strong vocals, and excellent drum beats all combine to make Divide The Blackened Sky an excellent release.
“Borderline” starts the album and shows off The Veer Union’s strengths—powerful rock, with a heavy beat. This is modern rock with an edge. The influences of bands like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace can be heard throughout the disc, but “Borderline” is where these influences stand out the most. If you are a Breaking Benjamin fan, you will love the lead track from Divide The Blackened Sky.
On their sophomore release, The Veer Union decided to go all power. No ballads made an appearance on this record, however, they aren’t missed. Usually modern rock records need balance between the hard rock hits, and the loving ballads. Divide The Blackened Sky mixes melody and power so well, that the lack of ballads isn’t a deterrent to the record.
“Inside Our Scars” is the strongest song on the disc and the most enjoyable track as well. Lead singer Crispin Earl has a chance to show off the true power of his vocals and sings like a siren. While the intro of the song might have listeners thinking that it is a ballad, the song kicks in so heavy halfway through, that the hard rock prevails. Drummer Neil Beaton shows off his talents as well, playing some of the best drums of the record on “Inside Our Scars.”
Divide The Blackened Sky is a strong release, especially considering the expectations following such a solid debut. The Veer Union didn’t shy away from the challenge and put out a heavy, dark, hard rocking record, worthy of being called the follow up to their first release. If you’ve been looking for a new band to add to your rotation, I highly recommend The Veer Union. Divide The Blackened Sky is an addictive record. The more you spin it, the more you want to hear it.

0 JANUS: Tour Dates Confirmed With Framing Hanley & The Veer Union
JANUS ADDS DATES WITH FRAMING HANLEY AND THE VEER UNION
TO THEIR ONGOING U.S. TOUR
AS THEY PREPARE TO RELEASE
‘RED RIGHT RETURN’ SEPTEMBER 22 ON REALID RECORDS
JANUS hit the road last month to get the buzz started about the September 22 release of their debut album, RED RIGHT RETURN (REALID Records, through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group), which will keep them on the road throughout the remainder of 2009. Now comes word that new dates for the Chicago band—with Framing Hanley and The Veer Union–have been added to their itinerary, which will last from October 8 through October 27.
The album’s first single, “Eyesore,” is currently spinning on over 20 Rock radio stations nationwide, including KBPI/Denver, KQRC/Kansas City, WJJO/Madison, KXFX/Santa Rosa and KISW/Seattle, and is most requested on Q101/Chicago, KPNT/St. Louis and WWBN/Flint. A video for the track—directed by Noah Shulman (Sleepless City Productions)–has over a half a million views this summer and can now be seen on the band’s Myspace page (www.myspace.com/janus).
In online news, JANUS has been selected as the “Rock Artist To Watch” on iheartradio.com for the month of September. The band’s page can be found at http://www.iheartradio.com/new2/featured/f/2288.
RED RIGHT RETURN is a collection of ten seamlessly flowing tracks that showcase the band’s ability to bring the Rock world an intelligent fresh sound. JANUS’ debut harkens back to the days when albums were written as a total piece of work, as opposed to a group of single songs. The Chicago natives recorded, produced, created all the themes, digital presence, and artwork on their own. Lyrically, the songs have very strong universal underpinnings to real life experiences. While they tell a particular story, the end result is left open to interpretation and the listener is free to draw their own conclusions.
In an early review of RED RIGHT RETURN, Absolutepunk.net raved: “There are a few bands, given the opportunity, could take the radio by storm. JANUS is a perfect example of this type of band. If they were given the chance, and played on some larger radio stations alongside all of our alternative ‘favorites’ (sound-alikes), they could earn themselves hordes of fans.” The Wildy’s World blog calls it “…a brilliant Rock-based soundscape…” and Blogcritics.org hails it as a “…diamond in the rough.”
Check out JANUS–David Scotney (vocals), Johnny Salazar (percussion), Alan Quitman (bass), Mike Tyranski (guitar/programming)–at any of the following stops:
