0 POP EVIL DEBUT A BRAND NEW SONG
Michigan rock band POP EVIL have released a brand new song today called “Unstoppable.” ESPN has debuted the track HERE. “We are very excited to announce the addition of two new songs to our iTunes Deluxe Version of ‘War of Angels‘: ‘Unstoppable’ and a new acoustic version of ‘Monster You Made,'” says front man Leigh Kakaty.
Produced by Johnny K, this is the first time the band has released all new material since their highly viral Michigan Wolverines football fight song which debuted over the summer.
Kakaty continues, “We recently had a break from the road to go into the studio with Johnny K. We knew we wanted to release these tracks soon so our fans would have something to kick off the new year! They deserve it, they’ve been there for us through the thick and thin!”
“Unstoppable” is about the obstacles we dealt with as a band during the past year. Going through a six month battle with our former record label and the loss of our drummer were both stressful for us as a band. Despite these obstacles, we still managed to overcome them all while playing over 200 shows this year!”
POP EVIL released “War Of Angels” over the summer to much critical praise:
- “War Of Angels is a heavier and more mature departure from their debut album,” – Billboard Sep 2011
- “Pop Evil just seems like one of those bands that as more and more people hear them, they are going to tell their friends,” – Connections Dec 2011
Other accolades include being named Revolver Magazine’s “Band To Watch” in their Nov/Dec issue.
POP EVIL is Leigh Kakaty (lead vocals) Chachi Riot (drums) Davey Grahs (guitar) Tony Greve (guitar) and Matt DiRito (bass).
1 Pop Evil – War of Angels (2011)
Pop Evil has released their follow up effort to their 2008 debut Lipstick in a Mirror. While I thought Lipstick in a Mirror was good, the band has improved, and War of Angels is definitely a step above the debut. Luckily, I have been able to hear the band perform a few of the songs from War of Angels live prior to purchasing the CD, and I already knew that I liked the tunes I have heard.
War of Angels seems like a more balanced effort. Some songs like “Last Man Standing” and “Boss’s Daughter” are heavy, while the song “Let It Go” is more of a pop/power ballad, that has huge radio potential.
Leigh Kakaty’s voice surprised me on this CD, as I thought his voice sounded higher than it did when I have seen him live. He sounds great, as does the rest of Pop Evil.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of too many modern rock bands, however, Pop Evil has won me over with their energetic live shows. Judging from the tunes on War of Angels, Pop Evil is clearly one of the better new bands out there. I would compare their sound to Shinedown’s at this stage in their career, and that is not a bad place to be in my opinion.
I have enjoyed War of Angels much more than I expected to, and definitely believe it is worth picking up.

2 POP EVIL ANNOUNCES “WAR OF ANGELS” RELEASE DELAY
Band plans to give fans a free download and sneak preview of entire album
Michigan’s Pop Evil regrets to inform their fans that the release of their sophomore album, War of Angels (Universal Republic), will be delayed. The band has revealed that due to circumstances beyond their control, it will be necessary for the band to push back the originally scheduled February 8th release date.
With the first single, “Last Man Standing”, steadily climbing the charts and currently #15 at Active Rock, the band assures fans they will have a new release date set very soon.
“We are sorry to make you [the fans] wait even longer than you already have. We put our blood, sweat and tears into every song on this album and want nothing more than for it to be successful. By delaying the release, we are creating a greater chance for our investment to succeed,” stated Pop Evil.
To make it up to the disappointed “Evil Nation”, Pop Evil plans to give away a monster surprise in the upcoming weeks. This is not the first song they have given away from the new album; in December the band posted “Save the World”, an ‘in your face’ high energy rock track, to get fans excited for what’s to come. Become a ‘fan’ of Pop Evil on Facebook and download “Save the World” (here).
“We love giving our supporters a little taste of what is in store. Not only will we be giving you a surprise via Facebook, we also have posted a video with snippets of ALL the tracks off the album via YouTube” the band remarked.
The YouTube video, posted February 1st, includes one minute clips of every track off War of Angels in chronological order. Check out the sneak preview (here).
In the meantime the band asks fans to continue requesting “Last Man Standing” on their local radio stations to help drive it up the charts!
