Doro – Warrior Soul (Release Year – 2006)
I must admit that Doro fell off my musical radar since her days in Warlock. Why that is, I don’t really know. The cover of this disc really caught my attention, so I had to give this a chance.
I am glad I did. This sounds just like the Warlock songs I used to remember back in the late 80’s.
Doro shows why she will continue by the reigning Metal queen for quite some time. I don’t think too many metal fans will have a hard time liking the majority of this disc.
You’re My Family starts the pace off right with a heavy rocking number. Haunted Heart sounds like it could have been on Judas Priest’s Angel of Retribution disc. Strangers Yesterday is an OK track.
Thunderspell kind of sounds like a heavy Pat Benatar song. I love this track. Warrior Soul is a low tempo almost haunting number. I didn’t really care for this song too much. Creep In My Brain is another very cool track.
At this point I start losing interest in the rest of the songs. The tempo slows down, on Above the Ashes and I think Doro’s voice works best on the faster numbers. My Majesty is an more upbeat rocker, and is a better song, but its not one of my favorites here.
There are also a couple of songs that are in German(In Liebe Und Freundschaft and Ungebrochen. They sound nice, but the only German words I understand is Farfegnuugen, weinerschnitzel and bier. 🙂
Shine on was just an average song to me, and not a very memorable way to end this disc.
There are certainly some moments of greatness on Warrior Soul, but the disc seems to fall off about midway through. It may not be the best disc you will buy all year, but it definitely wont be the worst.

I love DORO solo but loved even more her WARLOCK days. She had and still have a great voice. She is the real QUEEN OF METAL.
