Pump – Breakdown to Breakthrough (2007)

Pump - Breakdown to BreakthroughI must admit that Pump’s 2006 release, Breakdown to Breakthrough, has about the ugliest cover art that I have seen in quite some time. Luckily, the tunes are much better than the artwork here! Breakdown to Breakthrough is a solid piece of 80’s style metal. After giving this disc a couple of spins, and can hear some Accept,Whitesnake and Victory like Marcus Jurgensinfluences, as well as a bit of Y&T.

I have to give props where it is due! Hairball John has Breakdown to Breakthrough listed as his #1 disc of 2006. With a recommendation like that, I had to pick it. It took nearly a month to get this imported from Russia, and I began to lose hope that this would show up. Luckily it arrived today, and it hasn’t left my CD player since.

Lead Singer Marcus Jurgens has a vocal style that is a cross between Dave Meniketti (Y&T) and Fernando Garcia (Victory). His excellent vocals mixed with the dynamic duo of shred, Aki Reissmann and Ullrich Simon Hauff are going to bring some joy to the ears of a lot of hard rock fans out there. There isn’t a single track without some killer heavy guitars and great vocals to match. The rhythm section of Stephan Burk on Bass and Achim “Animal” Keller on Drums provide the infectious beats and awesome grooves on this disc.

This is one of those CDs that will immediately appeal to 80’s style hard rock fans. Some of the songs took a couple of listens to truly enjoy, but I really couldn’t find a single track that I didn’t like.

You can also hear more tracks at the band’s my space page, here! Check these guys out! You will be glad you did.

Hello. Good to read about Pump. Marcus is my distant German cousin’s cousin… so, he’s an extremely distant relative, but the rock runs strong in our veins on both sides of the Atlantic. I have Pump’s first release and I was so happy to hear that it kicked ass when I got it. You know how it is hearing cds of people you know. 9 times out of 10….. But Pump is an outstanding band. I play in a Detroit heavy metal band called Overloaded. I’d like to send you our cd for review. Please contact me. http://www.overloadedmusic.com http://www.myspace.com/overloaded.

    Cheers,
