Grand Lux – Carved In Stone (Release Year – 2007)
A new surprise contender for best album of 2007 has come from the Norway Metal band Grand Lux. I never heard of these guys before digging up some info on them last month, I heard a couple of songs, and decided to pick up their new disc on a whim. Based on what I have heard on Carved In Stone, I will be buying their back catalog.
Grand Lux states their influences as Dio, Kiss, Ozzy Ozbourne and Judas Priest. The influence of these bands is quite obvious in the music. Lead Singer, Phil Goode sounds like a mix of Michael Sweet and a dash of Rob Halford for good measure. The guitar duo of B.D. Hughes and Kirk Evin, really make this disc a worthy listen. It is a heavy, yet very polished sounding hard rock record.
One of the coolest hard rock videos I have seen in a while is their video for Escaping the Clouds, which you can view below.
If you like the video above, you ought to give Grand Lux a listen. Carved in Stone rocks hard from beginning to end, and there isn’t a bad song in the bunch. I think if you take a chance on this disc you will be pleasantly surprised like I was. You can check out a few of their tunes at their myspace page here!
This is a great slab of 80’s style hard rock that is going to appeal to a lot of hard rock and metal fans out there. Check it out!!
