Aerosmith – Toys in The Attic (Release Year – 1975)
Toys in the Attic is Aerosmith’s 3rd record. This album helped turn the band into international superstars.
This CD is definitely more hard rock than metal, but it is definitely a classic! I can’t even imagine what people thought about this back in ’75, but to hear Stephen Tyler’s voice with the funky blues rock of Toys in the Attic had to be something special. It still is today!
I had the pleasure of seeing the band play Uncle Salty live last year, and gained a whole new appreciation for the song. Between Joe Perry’s bluesy guitar licks, and Stephen Tyler’s killer vocals, it just does not get better than this.
The songs Walk This Way, and Sweet Emotion need no introduction. These are some of the biggest hits that Aerosmith has ever written, and still get plenty of airplay in 2007. I found a video that I recall getting some airplay during MTV’s Headbanger’s ball for Sweet Emotion, check it out below!
I enjoy Joe Perry’s guitar playing on Adam’s Apple quite a bit, even though it isn’t my favorite song on the record.
I can’t help but love Aerosmith’s witty, Big Ten Inch Record. I love the boogie woogie bluesy piano of this tune. What a fun song!
No More No More is one of those songs that needs to grow on you a little bit. Once it does, it is an ultimately satisfying tune.
Round and Round almost has a Black Sabbath like feel to it. It has elements of stoner rock, that seems kind of odd when comparing it to the rest of the songs on Toys in the Attic.
You See Me Crying closes this disc out with a piano based number, that has an orchestral arrangement, that I could have lived without. This song sounds a little dated to me, but this was the style that quite a few bands were trying out back in the 70’s.
Sweet Emotion
With the exception of a couple of songs, Toys in the Attic is damn close to perfection. This multi-platinum disc put Aerosmith on the map. It should be essential to any fan of hard rock music.

Before giving a proper review of this album, it must be said that Aerosmith, considered one of the great American classic rock bands, has become a parody of itself. They have the formula that brought them back from the dead and they aren’t going to give it up anytime soon. It’s sad.
Anyway, Toys in the Attic was huge. So many bands were infuenced by this band, and this album in particular, I could not even begin to name them. They were a seamless concoction of blues and junk rock that was the perfect soundtrack to 70’s excess. Cocaine, qualudes, booze, hairy Los Angelian porn stars and Aerosmith all went hand in hand. It was a beautiful thing…or something….well, you had to be there. Steven and Joe are now iconic figures in the rock game, and deservedly so. Their music of old stands up, but I would seriously doubt about their music of late.
YES! This is one of the best rock albums ever recorded- zero filler. This and “Rocks” are Aerosmith’s finest…and “Round and Round” is one of my favorite Aerosmith songs, period. It’s quite rare…I’ve never heard them play it live. Steven Tyler’s voice is so hot on this song…well, I can’t even go on.
I love Toys in the Attic so much. I even have a 24 carat gold audiophile pressing of the disc.
