L.A. Guns Indianapolis Concert Review

Phil LewisThe real L.A. Guns featuring Phil Lewis, Steve Riley, Scott Griffin and Stacey Blades played Indianapolis last night in the 8 Second Saloon. It wasn’t a packed house, but I would guess 500 people showed up for the show. This is a big club, and they could have easily packed in twice as many people that showed up.

Rok Hollywood, an Indianapolis glam band opened the show. Sadly, I got stuck in construction leaving Kentucky, and it took a lot longer to get to the Indy based club than anticipated. I misssed Rok Hollywood completely, but made it to the club in plenty of time to catch L.A. Guns.

I flipped a coin this week to decide which show I was going to go see. There were plenty of shows within a two hour drive this week, including Alice Cooper, Black Stone Cherry (One of my favorite bands), L.A. Guns, and Great White.

Judging from the show that I saw last night, I think I made the right decision! L.A. Guns was fantastic last night. Phil Lewis’s voice is in fine form. He sounds just as good today as he did back when he first started with the band back in ’87. For those neigh sayers, whoStacey Blades think this band can’t survive without Tracii Guns, obviously haven’t seen Stacey Blades play live.

Stacey is a very solid player, and handles all of the L.A. Guns tunes easily, without missing a note. I enjoyed watching him play, he is obviously enjoying playing the songs live.

The L.A Guns set was approxiamately an hour and 15 minutes long. The following songs were played during the set (this is just a partial list): Sex Action, One More Reason, Rip and Tear, The Ballad Of Jayne, Over the Edge, Long Time Dead, Electric Gypsy and Kiss My Love Goodbye.

During the show Phil mentioned that they played live in Detroit the night before with Jani Lane, and Dokken. He said Jani is looking and sounding better than ever. He said Don Dokken said to tell everyone “Hi”, and they would be out to kick everyone asses real soon.

The show itself was absolutely killer. Phil Lewis and company kicked ass on Friday night, and I was damn glad that I caught this concert.

After the show, all of the guys from L.A. Guns came out for a meet & greet with the fans, and were absolutely cool. I enjoyed meeting all of them! I love how the band was completely accessible to the fans, and how they took the time out to talk to everyone. Twenty years ago, this never would have happened. This means a lot to me, and to a lot of the other rock fans out there for sure.

The following videos are from the Friday night show. Enjoy!

Phil said the band hasn’t played this song for a while, so I am glad I captured this one on video!

Phil Lewis dedicated this song to that other L.A. Guns band out there:

The band plays their biggest hit ever!

In summary, this was a great show, and worth the drive and the little cash spent at the door. Do not miss L.A. Guns if they come to your down. You won’t be disappointed!

I’d be happy to. I have a week coming up where I plan to review nothing but the new and latest glam metal bands out there. I am waiting for a couple more discs to come in before I do it. If you are interested, I would be happy to add Rok Hollywood to the list.

Maybe we can send you a copy of the dvd that we made that night? You can always review it off of that.

We had one of the best times as a band at this show. It was great playing with, and watching LA Guns! The audience was awesome to say the least!
