6 The Donnas – Bitchin’ (Release Year – 2007)

The Donnas The Donna’s new CD, Bitchin’ may seem like an odd choice for Glam Month at Hard Rock Hideout.

The Donnas may not consider themselves part of the glam scene today. One look at the picture below, and a single listen to Bitchin‘ and you will quickly discover that the four girls from L.A. have created a sound and a look that will appeal to most Glam fans!

Usually, I bypass rock bands fronted by female lead singers. It isn’t because of chauvinistic reasons. It is because time and time again, I have been disappointed by releases with bands fronted with women. Their have been many exceptions to the rule, but as of late, I haven’t found any bands that got their hooks into me as much as The Donnas have.

On this record, you will find a bunch of catchy upbeat tunes that have a distinct Joan Jett feel, with a dash of Lita Ford 80’s pop metal thrown in for good measure. Bitchin’ isn’t a heavy sounding record by any means, but has a hard enough edge that will make it palatable to a lot of hard rock fans. You won’t find much filler material on Bitchin’. Most songs are sing-a-long anthems that grab you on the first listen.

As a bonus for a limited time, when you buy the CD, their is a bonus code inside for a downloadable song called Randi. This isn’t a throw away song either. It is actually pretty good. It is a nice little extra for those that decide to pick this disc up.

The Bottom line is, Bitchin’ is a great disc, and one that is going to see a lot of play from me in the weeks to follow. The Donnas rock, and are well worth checking out! You can preview four tracks at the Donnas’ myspace page. Go check them out!
