Video Showdown #2: Avenged Sevenfold vs. Overkill
Today’s Video Showdown puts the Metal band Overkill against Avenged Sevenfold.
It seems that there is some logo infringement between the bands Overkill, and Avenged Sevenfold. Overkill has been using the flying bat skull logo since their 1988 release, Under the Influence.
Meanwhile, the flying bat skull started showing up on Avenged Sevenfold covers in 2003, with the A7X’s release, Waking the Fallen.

Sevenfold is the better band and can steel their logo if they want to. If you disagree, M-shadows will put you through a wall.
Pffft. Listening Overkill, Overkill II (The Nightmare Continues), Overkill III (Under the Influence), Overkill IV (E.vil N.ever D.ies), Overkill V…The Brand first and after this, Fuck yourself.

…Hear me… I hear your call..
Fuck Avenged Sevenfold, fuckin fruitcakes, wtf do they think there doin with a logo like Overkills, i dont care if there doing it in honor of them, its disgraceful to call a band metal when there sound so shitty!
Overkill by far wins this one, fuckin classic, fuck this new shit there tryin to call metal!
Smartguy….Overkill hasn’t faded into history. They have been playing live and releasing new albums since 1985. They are one of the few Thrash Metal bands that have stayed active since the mid 80’s. They may not have the popularity with today’s youth, as does Avenged Sevenfold, but they haven’t faded into history either.
I would say that Overkill’s new CD Immortalis is as good as A7X’s new self titled disc, but I like 80’s thrash metal. Nothing against A7X either. They are pretty good too.
oh and btw. overkill aren’t bad. they obviously started the skulls and shit way back before most people knew what music was. but who’s to say that the person that designed avenged sevenfold’s logo wasn’t just paying homage to overkill and other bands of that time? who’s to say they weren’t trying to keep an image alive so that people could remember overkill and WHO is to say that they didn’t use that logo so that it would bring attention to overkill? did it NOT bring attention to overkill? no i’m pretty sure it did. so you should be THANKING avenged for reminding you about a band that has otherwise faded into history…
ok wow. some people really need taste. i’ll tell you what. i’ll keep it simple. if ANYONE that has bashed on avenged sevenfold can write just ONE song that’s HALF AS GOOD as ANY of avenged sevenfold’s songs then i’ll shut up. but you can’t. avenged are just too amazing. you say comercialized, i say talented musical geniuses. they know how to give the people what they want and then some. and like i said, if you don’t like a single song they have made then you have no taste and/or brain at all because they cover the spectrum. mostly metalcore or hardcore is their genre but unlike any other band in history they’ve added elements or dance, rap, punk, pop, metal, and country (they even have a country song, “dear god” look it up). how many bands do you know can blend the BEST elements of the biggest genres together and still be so damn talented? uh… none! everyone else has one maybe two set sounds… so get some taste you crusty old metalheads.
p.s. there is nothing wrong with liking metal music. i like metal music, i like punk and new age as well. maybe that’s because i UNDERSTAND what music is… it’s not just palm mute one note af fast as possible and scream nonsense… it’s about making a melodic connection, thinking things out, and delivering a message.
They really aren’t that similar that’s like saying a skull with angel wings is plagerizing them. One has a ton of Horns on it the other doesn’t ontop of the fact Overkill has changed their logo so many times over the year it’s just ridiculous. If they did pursue sewing over something so petty they would just be pathetic and alot of people would view them as trying to get more CD’s sold by taking on a very big mainstream band.
I’m a fan of both bands but a bigger fan of Overkill… and besides, logo plageurism is just plain uncool. The Years of Decay has to go down as a classic album – one of the finest of it’s time. And i just want to ad that the new A7X album ain’t half as bad as the reviews it’s been copping here in Oz. \m/
Overkill wins…..no question about that…..
Cool video bro. Increible, OVERKILL looks cool and AVENGED SEVENFOLD look stupid. Anyway, just a old school maniac talking lol.
I have to go with Overkill. A7X is an okay band, but they’ve largely commercialized their sound. Overkill may have been a little inconsistent over the years, but they’ve released some real classics like Taking Over and Horrorscope even if they haven’t met with commercial success. The skull mascots are awfully close aren’t they? I wonder why Overkill never pursued this. Maybe they’re too lazy or maybe they’re just too decent to be that petty.
