It isn’t about ignoring the past, just not living there. Punk in no way shape or form ignores Elvis, the Beatles, the Stones. It was actually about reconnecting with rock n roll’s essence and moving forward with that rather than continuing in the bloated, commercialized dinosaur that rock was already becoming in the 70s.
100,000 people did not attend Rocklahoma last year. You have to divide that by three days. That’s 33,333 people. I’ll give you a little bit of wiggle room on that for the few people that came for one day only and you’re still well under 40,000. If it was really that big, it would be a traveling festival, but there aren’t enough people into it and willing to spend that much time in the past to sustain a tour. So they put on this big show in Oklahoma that caters to all of you who think grunge was the worst thing to happen since Buddy Holly died and Elvis got drafted. Kids today do hear real rock n roll and its theirs. If you want to live in the 80s with yours, that’s fine, but I’d rather curl up and die than grow that old and jaded.
I’m happy to agree to disagree. That’s what I usually do with people who are wrong.
Hi Bob, Why don’t we agree to disagree. If you’re a “punkster” you’ll never get what true rock and roll is. With your philosiphy Elvis, the Beatles and the Stones never existed or should be forgotten. The past is what makes the future and I’ll be honest, I never really got into the “punk” thing. Slam dancing in a mosh pit is not my idea of a good time. With bands like Crooked X coming out holds out hope for me that the future generations are seeing what true “rock and roll” is. I’ll be at Rocklahoma again this year with 100,000 burnt out rock and roll fans from all 50 states, all Canadian Provinces and most of the European and Asian countries. Rocklahoma tickets including free beer and food $375.00, 4 days and 80 bands of Rock and Roll INCLUDED, all the boobs you can photograph…Priceless!
Craig, I think it’s more like you don’t need my good sense and recognition that music has moved forward in the last 20 years. The party is over. 30,000 die-hards who can’t let the past die isn’t all that impressive.
As far as bands hanging with the fans, punk rock has been that way for years, so you can experience that all over the place and get conversation that doesn’t revolve around boobs and beers to boot!
QUEENSRYCHE is one of the most innovative groups ever assembled. They ARE music ! As for bob_vinyl…you’re not invited to Rocklahoma 08, don’t need you or your attitude there. You probably weren’t at 07 because living in your mom’s basement playing dungeons and dragons online for hours takes too much of your time anyway. I was at Roclahoma 07, just got back from Bikelahoma and in 2 1/2 months I’ll be at Rocklahoma 08 !!! Can’t friggin wait ! Saw Jesse and the boys from Jackyl, front row center stage and Joe Leste and the boys from Bang Tango surfed the crowd after the show hanging out with the fans. Where else can you experience up close and personal with the bands like Rocklahoma/Bikelahoma. Dirty Penny was there as well always hanging with the fans and you all really need to check out the group CROOKED X ! Log onto their site and listen, they opening for KISS in Sweden and will be back at Rocklahoma 08 unfortunately on the side stage. These guys are 14 years old but crank it out like 40 year old veterans ! The band PEDAL POINT from the Tulsa area saved the day Friday at Bikelahoma cranking out covers and original material for the AFTERPARTY. Shout out to lead singer Mike and “Green Beard”. I’ll be at Rocklahoma with my crew from Kansas aptly named the “Kansas Krew” ready to drink, party, rock out and hang with some of the best bands ever ! Sleep is over rated because “IT’s ALL ABOUT THE PARTY !!!”
I have seen Queensryche 3 times in the last year and a half at House of Blues, Chicago. Every show has been great. The Mindcrime “reenactment” show was one of them. I thought it was kind of corny and didn’t really care for that aspect of it, but I really went to hear the music, which was awesome as always. I think Queensryche and Tesla in the same evening would be cool to see. To bad I wont be making it to Rocklahoma this year, the lineup is looking better and better all the time.
Yet another reason to avoid Rocklahoma. Queensryche seemed good in their prime, but I can’t figure out why anyone still cares. I can’t even get through all of Operation:Mindcrime anymore. Yeah, they can play, but the concept is silly and the music is cold and lifeless.
