Journey – Revelation (Release Year – 2008)
I must admit that Journey is a band that has fallen off of my musical radar for quite some time. I wasn’t a big fan of Steve Augeri’s work in the band, but was I glad that Journey kept going. Like the majority of Journey fans out there, I too am a fan of the Steve Perry era of the band. I had no plans to check out Journey’s new CD, Revelation at all.
I recently read Andrew McNiece’s review at Melodic Rock.com giving this release high marks. I have come to trust Andrew’s opinion over the years, so I decided to give Journey another chance.
In the U.S., Revelation is a Walmart Exclusive release, and is two CD/ 1 DVD set, for the price of one CD. Yes, you read that correctly. Journey is giving you a chance to check out the latest version of the band, with a CD of new material, a CD of re-recorded hits with Arnel Pineda on vocals, and a DVD covering some live footage with the band.
There have been quite a few bands as of late trying to recapture the magic of their old sound. Some of them have done it well (Whitesnake) and some of them not so well (Dokken). I can honestly that with Revelation, Journey has finally put out a release that rivals those of their hit making years with Steve Perry.
By now, I am sure you know that Journey found Arnel Pineda via a You Tube video. They must have been impressed with what they saw and heard, and I have to second that opinion with his work on Revelation. Make no bones about it, Pineda doesn’t try to inject a new sound into Journey’s music. He is almost a dead ringer for Steve Perry vocally.
I don’t know if Pineda’s vocals have breathed new life into Journey, but the whole band seems re-energized. Neal Schon’s guitar work on this album is nothing short of superb. Cain, Vallory and Castronova also sound inspired.
With Arnel Pineda, Journey can forge ahead with the sound their fans love. While it may be true that Journey isn’t breaking any new ground here, I don’t think too many people will care. Revelation is going to please a hell of a lot of Journey fans, as well as the Steve Perry diehard fans out there.
Revelation is one of the highlights of 2008, and one of the best Melodic Rock discs so far this year. Highly recommended!

I am so addicted listening to the new Journey CD. I listened to it everyday. I am so blown away with Arnel’s voice. I like all the new songs. My husband asked me if I am falling in love with Arnel. I highly recommend this CD to everyone. You will NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been a Journey fan since before Infinity. I saw this @ Wal Mart and did not hesitate to buy it. I actually liked the Steve Agueri era but could not believe my ears when I heard this new dude. He is not Steve Perry but he does his best to be himself. Super stuff. Excellent addition to the Journey legacy.
OMG, its addicting. Thanks to AP’s voice. thank you JOurney for coming out with an album i am totally enjoying everyday, in the car, around the house, at work, during workout, man, im psyched.
THE CD AND DVD IS GREAT,I ALWAYS WATCH THE DVD IF GOT NOTHING TO DO AT HOME,ACTUALLY MY 8 YRS OLD SON ALSO SINGING AND HE REALLY ENJOYED THE SONGS THEY PLAYED,MY FAVORITES ARE LIKE A SUNSHOWER, AFTER ALLTHIS YEARS AND ALL THERE SONGS ARE GOOD..
Since I got the cd (Revelation), it’s been playing to & from my work..All the new materials are so amusing…Like A Sunshower (for young lovers) & After All These Years ( mom & dad)..These were made perfectly for Arnel’s “soaring” tenor. GO!!! Journey…
I’ve been a casual Journey fan all through the years. As a young Nurse in the USA, I’ve slow-danced to a Journey ballad with all the toads I’ve met. I finally found my Prince one day, I think we received each other with “Open Arms” that night and promised to love each other “Faithfully”. Now four kids later and a hell of a lot of raising spoiled American teen-agers, I finally came back to my senses and found time to enjoy what I love the best. ROCKIN!!!!
I HAVE SKY SEATS TO A JOURNEY CONCERT IN CHICAGO. I convinced 20 other friends to go with me, THEY THOUGHT I WAS A PROMOTER FOR JOURNEY!!!!!!!HAHHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER AT THE MIDWEST THEATER IN TINLEY PARK, WE’LL BE IN ONE OF THOSE SKYBOXES SCREAMING LIKE MIDDLE-AGED TEEN-AGERS.
This is a stunning album from one of the best ever rock bands
Will see them in Glasgow. The excitement is killing me.
Buy it you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!
The new CD is great! This is the best sounding music album I’ve heard in a long, long time. It’s for everyone – young & old. JOURNEY is making the best comeback of any American/international band.
This is a great album. I bought 2 CDs (one in the car and one in the house). Songs are just addicting. The more you listen to it the more you’ll love it. Ballads are just genuinely written and brilliantly performed. Starting from “Like a Sunshower” followed by “After All These Years” then “What I Needed” and finally “Turn Down The World Tonight”. They all sound amazing.
And for the rocker, I like “What it Takes To Win” very much. Arnel’s voice is unexplainable. Sounds like a combination of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and Bryan Adams. “Never Walk Away” is another favorite. It’s relly a great CD. Get your’s now before it’s too late.
