Blabbermouth.net posted the following article this afternoon:
HINDER frontman Austin Winkler has told The Pulse of Radio that the band will team up with MÖTLEY CRÜE for an arena tour early next year. Winkler did not provide any more information about the trek except that it will begin in January. HINDER will be supporting its second album, “Take It to the Limit”, which arrives on November 4 and has its own CRÜE connection: guitarist Mick Mars plays lead on the title track. Drummer Cody Hanson told The Pulse of Radio how they got together. “He actually called us up and wanted to do some writing,” he said. “And we were like, ‘Yeah, of course, I mean, would you be interested in playing some guitar on the album? And he was like, ‘Absolutely,’ you know. So we sent him the track and he loved it, and we ended up going up to his house. And, you know, he laid down a few different passes of the solo on ‘Take It to the Limit’. So it was an amazing experience, you know, getting to meet one of your idols, I guess.”
“Take It to the Limit” arrives on Election Day (November 4). The CD’s first single is called “Use Me”.
The new album will follow up HINDER‘s triple-platinum 2005 debut, “Extreme Behavior”.
Before joining the CRÜE in January, HINDER will headline this fall’s Jägermeister Music Tour, which kicks off on October 24 in Magna, Utah and lasts through mid-December. TRAPT and REV THEORY will be the opening acts.
New Album Virus From Randy Piper’s Animal Really Gets Under Your Skin
When Locomotive Records spreads the Virus from Randy Piper’s Animal on October 21, it will be a clear case of musical infection, with symptoms including repetitive spins, severe neck trauma (from the massive amounts of headbanging), and blown eardrums, from blasting this one to eleven!
According to guitarist Randy Piper (ex-W.A.S.P), Virus, produced by guitarist Chris Laney, will “smoke your ass.” Recorded at Platform Studio and the legendary Polar Music Studios (where such acts as Led Zeppelin, ABBA and Genesis made some of their greatest albums), it is both more aggressive and more melodic than the debut. Lyrically, its real-life issues will keep the listener enthralled with thought-provoking conundrums of daily life. Several songs, in fact, deal with being unable to change a lifestyle that you know will kill you in the end, be it dangerous habits (“Can’t Stop” and “Unnatural High”) or working yourself to death (“Cardiac Arrest”). There’s also a cover of “Zombie” by The Cranberries.
This Animal was born in Scandinavia in 2007 as a Violent New Breed. It proved to be a rousing debut. By the time of its set at the prestigious Sweden Rocks Festival, Piper, Laney, vocalist Rich Lewis, bassist Nalle “Grizzly” Pahlsson and drummer Johan Koleberg had proved to over 100,000 that they’re the real deal.
1. Cardiac Arrest
2. Can’t Stop
3. Don’t Wanna Die
4. Crying Eagle
5. Unnatural High
6. Judgment Day
7. Who’s Next
9. Shoot To Kill
Rock author Joel McIver’s twelfth book, “The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists”, will be published globally in January 2009 by Jawbone Press, the world’s leading publisher of guitar titles. Featuring a foreword by Glen Benton of Deicide, the book takes the reader in reverse order from No. 100 to No. 1, the greatest metal guitarist of all time. McIver, a regular contributor to Total Guitar magazine, the biggest guitar mag in Europe, based his selection on the technical ability and historical significance of each player and adds that all generations of metal are covered in the book, with the oldest guitarist aged 61 and the youngest a mere 26.
McIver says, “The idea for this book came to me a couple of years ago after I read a list of the supposed 100 best metal guitarists of all time in a popular guitar magazine that should really know better. The list contained all these non-metal guitarists like Neil Young and Kurt Cobain, so I thought, ‘Screw this!’ and wrote my own list, which became an 80,000-word book. The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists features musicians from heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, power metal, doom metal and grindcore bands and that’s it!”
DC4 vocalist/guitarist Jeff Duncan recently cut guitar tracks for a new ‘Dizzy Reed’ solo project. Jeff performs on the track ‘Mother Theresa’. Many know the name ‘Dizzy Reed’ as the keyboardist for ‘Guns & Roses’ and his super group ‘Hooker’s N Blow’. It was recently announced that the long awaited Gn’R release, ‘Chinese Democracy’, will see a release on November 23rd through an exclusive deal with Best Buy.
Jeff Duncan is a current member of ‘Armored Saint’ and a founding member of ‘Odin and DC4’. Jeff Duncan is an exceptional guitar player who also showcases his vocal talent as the frontman for DC4. As previously mentioned, DC4 signed on with Chavis Records for the release of ‘EXPLODE’. The released has been pushed back to January 2009. “We all decided that we wanted to add a little more substance to the official release. We are finishing up a video shoot as well as heading back into the studio to record a few new ‘bonus tracks’.” says Jeff.
Surprise! Metal Church has a new album out, it’s scary to think that a legendary band like Metal Church would release a new album and there be no press on it. I have all eight of the other Metal Church albums and found out about “This Present Wasteland” looking through the new release section of a very non-metal website. As soon as I found out when it was being released I went straight to my favorite record store, known to many as Amazon and ordered it.
Metal Church has always been a strange band for the fact that they are hard to classify. Are they thrash or power, I think the answer is a little of both, especially with Ronny Munroe as the vocalist, if you haven’t heard him sing think of him as a cross between Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and Biff Byford (Saxon). This is Munroe’s third album with the band and I still can’t get used to his voice, maybe I am just a die hard David Wayne (R.I.P.) fan.
The musicianship on “Wasteland” is excellent Kurdt Vanderhoof shreds as he always has and guitarist Rick Van Zandt, bassist Steve Unger, and drummer Jeff Plate round out the ’08 version and are all very tight. Jeff Plate is a monster behind the drum kit. Without a doubt the songs are there, but once again it goes back to the vocals and the fact that I just can’t get into Munroe’s vocal style.
“Breathe Again” starts everything off and probably is the best track on the album but it reminds me more of Iron Maiden than Metal Church. “Crawling To Extinction” is where Jeff Plate gets to shine but in all actuality he shines throughout the whole CD. “Deeds of a Dead Soul” kind of reminds of Metallica in the way it is almost nine minutes long but also the solo is very reminiscent of Kirk Hammett.
If you haven’t heard Metal Church before or only the three albums Ronny Munroe has sang on “This Present Wasteland” may appeal to you but if you are a fan of David Wayne or Mike Howe it may leave you wishing for a little more.

Legendary Glam-Punk rockers Jetboy are pleased to announce that the band has formed a strategic alliance with trueAnthem (TrueAnthem.com) in an effort to shift the paradigm of music distribution. The new format offered by trueAnthem allows for totally free access to artists music for download, thus decriminalizing the practice of file sharing.
“We make our music for the fans, that’s the bottom-line” says Billy Rowe, Jetboy guitarist. “Jetboy has been searching for a way to introduce people to our music in a cost effective way, and with trueAnthem, we’ve found the perfect vehicle”.
trueAnthem couples corporate sponsors with musical acts in an effort to bring the downloads to fans at no charge. Ten Jetboy songs, including hits like Feel the Shake, Evil, and Stomp it Down to the Bricks appear on the trueAnthem website courtesy of Orange County Choppers.
Based in San Francisco, Calif., trueAnthem is a unique, advertising supported, online music distribution, promotion and marketing company. As a music label for the modern ages, trueAnthem provides online and offline services to promote independent and undiscovered talent. The company’s success strategy leverages the viral nature of information distribution on the Internet to become a leader in the new world of music.
The members of Jetboy believe that a new distribution model is necessary for the music business as we know it to survive. “trueAnthem provides the perfect vehicle for bringing the music to our fans. History tells us that when people like what they hear, they’ll look for avenues to purchase the full albums, and better yet, come to see us play live” said Rowe. “It’s time for this industry to get back to what music is all about, making listeners feel good”.
Jetboy is preparing to play the Viper Room in Hollywood, California on October 16 with Gilby Clarke and Black Cherry.
