Global Music are proud to announce the return of the original Irish punk-rockers, Therapy?, with their new studio album, Crooked Timber, out March 23rd 2009.
For past two years, Therapy? fans have eagerly awaited the bands return, now they’re back with a hard-edged recording that will really get under your skin and into your mind.
According to the band, the album Crooked Timber focuses more on rhythm, rather than melody. Admitting that while it is a heavy recording, its not exactly the obvious path for Therapy?. Why?
Front-man, Andy Cairns has the answer:
I guess were always challenging just what makes us Therapy?. After so many years, if we were formulaic about it, wed have gotten bored with the band long ago. The album was written together as a band, and each track has its own concept and inspirations. They took a while to write and weve taken our time to write them.
From the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made.
– Immanuel Kant (18th-century German philosopher)
Andy explains: The recording is about celebrating peoples quirks, the things which make us unique. These days everyone tries to fit it, instead of just being themselves.
The songs examine what it means to be human – To realise that we are the only living things on the planet aware of our own deaths.”

Talon is a California based band made up of vocalist Chandler Mogel, lead guitarist Jim Kee, rhythm guitarist and keyboards from Kory Voxen, bassist Phil Keller, and drummer John Parker. They are also a band that I have been hearing a lot about over the past couple of months, especially since they opened Firefest V. Once I was able to get my hands on their album “Fallen Angels” I couldn’t wait to hear what all the fuss was about. IF I was a man of few words I could sum up my review of “Fallen Angels” in two words Holy %$#!
These California guys know how to kick ass!! “Fallen Angels” is stuffed with great arena ready melodic rock, amazing guitar work, and outstanding vocals. From what I understand this is the band’s first album with vocalist Chandler Mogel and what an outstanding choice, Chandler is an amazing singer. Since I found out about Talon and “Fallen Angels” I went and picked up their 2002 self titled debut and Chandler simply blows the previous singer out of the water.
Almost every review I have seen mention the opening track “Fallen Angels” as a song of the year now while I personally would not go that far, although there are at least three or four other songs I could consider for song of the year, it is a great song and an excellent preview for the things to come on this album. Filled with soaring vocals, cool keyboard work from Kory Voxen, great background vocals, and outstanding guitar work from Jim Kee, where did this guy come from, he is awesome!!
“Burn” is the second song on the album and it is every bit as great as “Fallen Angels” more brilliant playing from Kee and the band as a whole. Mogel’s vocals are simply addictive. Believe it or not the album only gets stronger after these first two songs.
“What About Me” is the first song on this album I could consider as song of the year. Absolutely amazing, it has a catchy sing along radio ready chorus, background vocals most bands would kill for. This song should sound great in the arenas and have everyone singing along as they bang their heads along with the words.
Another song of the year candidate comes in the form of “Baby Jane” and it is without a doubt the best power ballad I have heard this year. Mogel, Kee, and bassist Phil Keller all shine on this song. This is another song ready made for arenas that should have the audience singing along and flicking their bics.
Remember how I said “Fallen Angels” only gets stronger the further into the album you go. “Always Be My Baby” is another prime example of that, yet another song of the year candidate. Pretty much outstanding everything on this song guitars, keyboards, background vocals. The thing I really love about Voxen’s keyboards on this entire album is they enhance every song without over saturating any of the songs that a lot of bands tend to do.
“Paradise” is probably my least favorite song on the album and it is still a extremely good song, I really don’t know what is keeping me from getting into this song. It has great vocals and more great guitars but it just hasn’t clicked with me yet.
Honestly I could go on and on about how great the rest of the songs on this album such as “I Won’t”, “Crying In The Dark”, “All I Ever Needed”, and “Wrecking Ball 2008” are, but I will make it simple if you like melodic hard rock with great vocals, killer guitars, great songwriting and playing all the way around you have to have “Fallen Angels” in your collection no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Joe and Lesa Johnston of Sacramentos Pus Cavern spent October and November assembling 23 musicians with ties to Sacramento, balancing egos and schedules, harmonies and delayed flights to produce Happy Christmas (War Is Over) in time for a December 10 worldwide release. Marrying their clout as Sacramentos premier recording studio with their desire to support their community, they managed the ambitious project of assembling the Pus Cavern Allstars to record a holiday song. Profits from the distribution will go to the scholarship fund of the Sacramento Childrens Chorus.
The positive message of this song echoes our objective. Several years ago we undertook a charitable project of this magnitude and we felt the time was right to make this happen again—to do our part to give back, said Joe Johnston, engineer and Pus Cavern owner. So many musicians eagerly lent their time and considerable talent to this project and we actually had a great time pulling it all together.
Engineered by Johnston, produced by Dave Buckner of Papa Roach and mastered by Eric Broyhill of Monster Lab Audio, the recording also includes talent from Tesla: Jeff Keith at vocals, Brian Wheat on bass and Frank Hannon on guitar; the Deftones: Abe Cunningham on drums, FAR: Jonah Matranga at vocals and Shaun Lopez playing the vibe; Endeverafter: Michael Grant on guitar and vocals; and Day Care: Sonny Mayugba on guitar. Also lending talent are Brandon Tyler on piano and vocals; The Snobs Jason Boggs on saxophone; Aroarah, The Secretions, Last Angels (Buckners current project), Lonely Kings, The Hoods, Larisa Bryski, Phallucy, The Skirts, Rowdy Kate, Evelyn and Joe Getty of The Dead Flowers and Armstrong and Getty on Mandolin.
The song, a cover of John Lennons Happy Christmas (War Is Over) will be released December 10 by Nozzle Records with worldwide digital distribution by Ingrooves.
In addition, the song will be available on Itunes and live sessions at the Pus Cavern, filmed by Will DaRosa, will be viewable on Youtube and Vimeo. The Sacramento Childrens Chorus is a world class training and performing group under the artistic direction of Lynn Stevens. sacramentochildrenschorus.org myspace.com/puscavernrecording
