Geffen Records signed the Rock City Angels to a massive 6.2 million dollar deal back in the mid 80’s. With so much money at their disposal, surely this band was headed for greatness right?! Where are they now?! Check out their video, “Deep Inside My Heart”. This is from their debut CD, “Young Man’s Blues”.
“Damned Nation” is the CD that should have taken Jetboy’s career to the next level. While “Damned Nation” may not be as classic as say, Guns N’ Roses “Appetite for Destruction”, it is easily Jetboy’s best offering. If more fans would have heard this disc back when it was released in the day, Jetboy would have been more of a household name than a mere footnote in the world of hard rock.
I have been a fan of Jetboy since their debut CD from the 80’s, but “Damned Nation” is the disc I still play the most. With awesome cuts like Stomp It (Down To the Bricks), Moonlight and Heavy Chevy, this CD will likely appeal to fans of bands coming out of the Sunset Strip in the mid eighties such as L.A. Guns and Faster Pussycat. There is also a really cool guest appears by Michael Monroe (Hanoi Rocks) who plays saxophone on the tune “Rock N’ Roller”
Jetboy’s mixture of glam and punk was very well done, and they should have hit a homerun with “Damned Nation”. Jetboy never got the proper support from their label and instead of “Damned Nation” propelling the band to superstar status, the lack of label support for this disc eventually led to their demise. Thank the rock gods that the band has gotten back together again once more!
This CD has been out of print for years, but you find used copies of it at this link. Grab this CD while you can!

Hello rock’n rollers from all over the world! The Saint here to give you all the latest in the world of Black’n Blue. We high tailed it up north to play Seattle Washington and Portland Oregon at years end. Unfortunately we hit the biggest snow storm since Lewis and Clark burned squirrels for heat on the great Columbia river. Portland was cancelled but we did play for some hungry BNB fans in Seattle and the band sounded great. I flew up a few days early to work on the Hell Yeah recordings. Things are sounding fucking killer. We do hope to get this out sometime in 2009. We are also psyched to announce that we are working with ARM Entertainment as our booking agent to kick the shit out of this glorious new year in true Black’n Blue style. We also have finally got a great hold on some European/Great Britain shows this year.2009 is going to be a kick ass year for us so stay tuned for a BNB rock show in the near future! Jaime St James

Tommy Lee is ready for a little mayhem — and not just with Motley Crue.
The rock drummer — who with his bandmates kicks off the group’s Saints of Los Angeles tour January 31 in Indio, California — told Billboard he has started work on his second Methods of Mayhem album, following up his side project’s platinum 1999 debut.
DJ Aero and guitarist Kai Marcus are still onboard, and Lee’s producing partner Scott Humphrey “is starting to get involved” as the songs are formulating. “We’re going to start tracking as soon as Motley is done (touring) at the end of March, and hopefully I’ll have it ready by April/May and done by the top of June,” Lee said.
Lee said he wouldn’t mind having Methods of Mayhem on the Crue Fest II tour, which is slated to begin in July, “like (Motley Crue bassist) Nikki (Sixx) did with Sixx:A.M. last year. That’d be killer.”
As for the rest of the Crue Fest II lineup, Lee said it’s still being discussed. “There’s offers going around all over the place,” he said. “We actually talked about that a little. Rob Zombie’s name came up. Godsmack. Alice Cooper. I’d like to switch it up, add a little bit more variety this year. I think it’d be fun to inject that.”
It appears that the format on XM Radio’s Boneyard has definitely changed. Their new format is, “Classic Rock that is Hard and Heavy”. Over the last couple of days I have heard heavy cuts from Motley Crue, Metallica, Megadeth, Rush, Aerosmith, The Cult, Black Sabbath and more. I can’t say that I have heard anything that truly falls under the hair metal envelope, so that is one major change to the Boneyard.
Still no sign of the familiar “Bone Me” either.
The station seems to be a little heavier than it used to be, but I have heard no new songs on the Boneyard and that is a complete disappointment.
Hopefully, it will get better as time goes on, but it is definitely not the same.
MALTESE FALCON can easily be called the lost heroes of the golden years of heavy metal. Inspired by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon and Grim Reaper, the band invaded the 80’s metal scene with a solid mixture of power, melody and heaviness. Their short, yet successful career brought a true gem – the album “Metal Rush”, released in 1984. The band’s debut album was packed with prime quality heavy metal and even though it was reminiscent of early W.A.S.P., Maltese Falcon managed to show some tricks of their own and instantly gained recognition on the Danish metal scene. “Metal Rush” starts off with the sharp opener “Alive” and is followed by such highlights as the massive “Heavy ‘n’ Loud”, the catchy “Rebellion” and the ultimate crowd-pleaser “Headbanger”. The band also included a ballad – “On Fire” – which ch immediately precedes the last song on the album, the ultra-fast title track. Musically, Maltese Falcon did not venture far from the typical heavy metal formula, however in terms of vocals, they were quite original. Some reviewers called Jensen’s voice a mixture of AC/DC’s Brain Johnson and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford. Indeed, his singing was extremely high-pitched and offered an interesting range of possibilities, which some critics loved and other hated.
Now, with this exclusive re-release, you can one again see the Maltese Falcon fly high all the way to the heavy metal top! First CD release of “Metal Rush” will be available in a digipak edition limited to 2000 copies, digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on a golden disc. The release date is set up for 19th January in Europe and 10th March in USA (via MVD).
BALANCE is the history of MELODIC ROCK. Formed in the early 80’s by BOB KULICK (KISS, ALICE COOPER, MEAT LOAF etc) with Peppy Castro (ex WIGGY BITS, BLUES MAGOOS) and Doug Katsaros (keyboard player who later found fame and fortune with KISS, Rod Stewart, Cher, Bon Jovi, Sinéad O’Connor and Aerosmith among others), they have released 2 albums which made waves between the fans of this particular music style, especially “In For The Count” which was recently reissued by Rock Candy / Universal.
The band members after the end of BALANCE in the 80’s went on to have shining careers in the music business, however they never had the chance to work on a new Balance album and complete their musical circle, so as soon as they got a proposal from Frontiers Records, and after the recent reissue of their classic “In For The Count” album on Rock Candy / Universal, they decided the time was right to start working again.
Completed with the help of Bret Chassen on drums (who also co-produced the album together with Bob Kulick), the resulting album “Equilibrium” is truly a labour of love: a record written and crafted with the highest respect for the fans and the same enthusiasm as the old days, bringing back the trademark sound and updating it to the production techniques and taste of the new millennium. A true Melodic Rock masterpiece!

What would you get if John Bush was the lead singer for Corrosion of Conformity and Monster Magnet’s Dave Wyndorf was the lead songwriter?? The answer very well could sound like Columbus OH’s Robot Lords of Toyko. The duo of Rick Ritzler – Drums/Guitar and Paul Jones – Lead Vocals/Guitar have been playing together for almost 15 years and as Robot Lords of Toyko for the last four years. They released their second album “Whiskey, Blood, & Napalm” in Oct ’08 after employing a virtual list of who’s who from the Midwestern rock and metal scene, including Joe Viers (Snowblynd), Beau Van Bibber (Deflagration), Steve Theado (American Dog), Rob Johnson (Magnitude 9/Solo), Steve Pollick (ex-Icarus Witch/Order of Nine), and instrumental guitar great Neil Zaza, among others to record the album. The guys were able to pull of the nearly impossible trick of making an album that sounds like a band album. The songs are all solid and concise from start to finish with the sound of a seasoned band that has more than a couple of tours together under their belts instead of a project put together and played by a dozen or so individuals.
Taking their cue from influences such as Black Sabbath, the aforementioned C.O.C., King’s X, and Motorhead RLoT is not pretty boy music, it is thick, sludgey, heavy in your face music. If you don’t believe me give songs such as “Princess of Hollywood”, “Deathwagon”, or “Burn the Sky” a listen they will make you a believer.
After years of touring the Midwest, “Whiskey, Blood, & Napalm” should be the album that finally gets Robot Lords of Toyko known nationally. You can check them out for yourself at http://www.robotlordsoftokyo.com/. You can preview RLoT music at http://www.myspace.com/robotlords
Their self titled debut and “Whiskey, Blood, & Napalm” are both available for purchase at CDBaby http://cdbaby.com/found?allsearch=Robot+Lords+of+Tokyo&submit=
For the fans of a rifftastic brew of stoner/doom groove anthems with alcohol-fueled riffage, guitar hero shredding, and more groove-metal swagger than you can shake a stick at Robot Lords of Toyko will be right up your alley.
Atlantic recording group Shinedown will kick off 2009 with an eight-country, European tour starting on January 21st at London’s O2 Academy Islington. The Jacksonville, FL-based band will make stops in Paris, Amsterdam and Stockholm for the Radio Bandit Awards among numerous other cities.
Beginning with the Punk To Crunk Festival in Lafayette, LA, on February 23rd, the group returns for another run of U.S. tour dates (see attached itinerary). More shows will be announced as the band expects to be on the road for the rest of the year in support of The Sound Of Madness. Fans can check http://www.shinedown.com for the latest tour updates and information.
In other news, Shinedown has landed their second consecutive #1 hit at rock radio with “Second Chance.” The band’s run of hit singles from their first three albums makes them one of the most successful rock bands of the decade. Shinedown launched “Second Chance” with a blistering performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this past fall. The song’s companion music video made its debut on MSN.com at the start of the new year and has been added to FUSE’s Rock & Alternative Countdown shows. “Second Chance” goes to Top 40 radio later this month.
Shinedown’s latest album, The Sound Of Madness, was produced by multiple Grammy Award-winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day, My Chemical Romance). Upon its release it became the band’s biggest debut of their career landing at # 8 it’s first week on the charts. The album has remained on the Billboard Top 200 album chart for 16 consecutive weeks. Both singles from The Sound of Madness: “Devour” and “Second Chance” have reached #1 on the Billboard Active and Mediabase Rock charts.

On the drive home tonight, I heard Iron Maiden, Scorpions and Aerosmith. I didn’t hear the familiar “Bone Me”, but I am hopeful that the station will return to the format it once had. Time will tell.

Next Braverman hooks up with the legend known as Lemmy. Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of the highly anticipated second album from PLACE VENDOME entitled “Streets of Fire” on February 20th 2009.
During the winter of 2004 fomer HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske, whose voice is still nowadays regarded as one of the most fascinating of the whole scene in Rock, accepted to be part of a Melodic Rock oriented concept patronized by Frontiers Records’ President Serafino Perugino. The resulting PLACE VENDOME debut album brought Kiske back to a more straight ahead and Rock sound, still very accessible and melodic and far from the Heavy Metal stereotypes of blood, violence and hate from which Kiske decided to move away from. He collaborated for the first time with PINK CREAM 69’s Dennis Ward, Kosta Zafiriou and Uwe Reitenauer with Gunther Werno (VANDENPLAS) on keyboards. In a quite ironic twist of fate Michael found himself to work with members of PINK CREAM 69, when the band’s original singer Andy Deris took his place in HELLOWEEN when he left. In Kiske’s view “Without Serafino Perugino offering me this Place Vendome project, I would probably never have sung a few of the musical styles on there up to this day (also in terms of lyrics), because my own songwriting is different. But I have found it exactly because of that reason interesting to do: it’s like playing roles or testing possibilities. To sing songs you did not write has its own quality: you can learn something here you otherwise probably wouldn’t and get a chance to look beyond your own borders. AOR won’t ”revolutionize” our music-world these days, but it is certainly fun to sing and people seemed to have enjoyed the first Place Vendome a lot. It did pretty well and also received surprisingly good reviews all over the world”.
The very favorable acceptance of the first PLACE VENDOME album planted the seeds for a second recording which was recorded during 2008. The songs this time were supplied by different songwriters, particularly motivated and enthusiast to be part of this new album. Torsti Spoof (Leverage) offered “Dancer”, “Changes”, “Believer” and the title-track “Streets of Fire”. Ronny Milianowicz (Saint Deamon and songwriter for Primal Fear) wrote “Surrender Your Soul”, “Completely Breathless” and “A Scene In Replay”, while Robert Sall (Work of Art, W.E.T) supplied “Follow Me” and “Valerie”. The production and the musicians’ team have anyway remained unchanged with Ward, Zafiriou, Reitenauer and Werno supplying all the necessary musicianship and skill to make this new album a success. “This second one appears to be even more AOR for my ears. It was also (again) very interesting for me to see how different a song sounded after I did the vocals” says Michael, adding “When Serafino sent me the songs one by one as demos, I sometimes secretly thought: OK, nice tune, painless and sweet, but it could also be a bit better. But after I did the vocals and Dennis Ward produced it in his own way with his guys, that impression changed and I am always surprised at how good it actually turns out in the end! This shows once more the importance of ‘HOW’ we do things”.
A promo videoclip for the song” My Guardian Angel” (written by Magnus Karlsson) is included as a special interactive bonus on the album and marks Michael Kiske’s visual return on the scene after years of a self-imposed exile. A record that marks a strong beginning of the year in Melodic Rock and brings back again Michael Kiske to the spotlight that he truly deserves as an artist and performer.
“Streets of Fire” final tracklisting includes:
Streets Of Fire; My Guardian Angel; Completely Breathless; Follow Me; Set Me Free; Believer; Valerie; A Scene In Replay; Changes; Surrender Your Soul; Dancer; I’d Die For You. My Guardian Angel (bonus videoclip).
One of the better bands to hit the music scene in 2008 was Muskegon, Michigan’s Pop Evil. I picked up a copy of this CD months ago, and I should have reviewed this long before now. When Pop Evil’s latest single “100 in a 55” was played on XM Radio yesterday, I unfiled my copy of the CD to check out “Lipstick on the Mirror” once more.
Singer Leigh Kakaty’s vocals are the driving force behind Pop Evil’s hard rocking tunes. He has just enough coarseness in his voice to separate Pop Evil’s music from the many sound alike acts on main stream radio.
There are several songs on “Lipstick on the Mirror” that could be hit worthy tunes. As I mentioned before, “100 in a 55” is already getting airplay on XM Radio (as well as Sirius) and many terrestrial radio stations. There are quite a few other tunes that should help get this band noticed including the debut single “Hero”, “Somebody Like You”. “Stepping Stone” is this massive sounding song where Kakaty’s voice truly shines. This is the type of song that put Creed on the map, and should do the same for Pop Evil.
If there are any downfalls on “Lipstick on the Mirror”, some of the song writing is kind of weak. I expect that will improve as the band continues to grow. There are moments on this disc where the band reminds me of acts like Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and Creed. That is pretty good company to be in, if you are going to make in the music business.
All in all, this is a very solid debut from Pop Evil, and is one that I will be playing a lot more over the coming months.

The three Categories below, Best New Rock Festival, Best New Album, and Best New Band of 2008, were voted on by HRH visitors over a two week period. The following award winners received the most votes in the 2008 Reader Awards!
There were a ton of awesome festivals all over the world including the Sweden Rock Festival, Hard Rock Hell, Rock The Bayou, Rocklahoma, The Mayhem Festival and a lot more. When Motley Crue took brought their festival tour all over the U.S., it gave more fans a chance to see a great bill with some really cool bands. Although Cruefest had the fewest amount of bands (Trapt, Sixx A.M., Papa Roach, Buckcherry and Motley Crue) of the festivals in this competition, more people were able to see attend this touring festival, and the vote was loud and clear. Cruefest was the top festival of 2008 and is Hard Rock Hideout’s 2008 Reader Award, Gold Award Winner!
In the final week of voting, AC/DC fans came of no where to push AC/DC’s Black Ice to the number one stop in 2008. As no surprise, “Black Ice” has been the top selling hard disc of 2008. It has already exceeded three million copies sold and quickly approaching the four million mark. Congratulations to AC/DC for winning the Best New Album of 2008 Gold Award!
The Best New Band of 2008 was the most heavily voted in category in the 2008 Reader Awards. There were some pretty amazing bands nominated in 2008, and the Syrym fans came out in mass numbers to push their band to the top. Syrym is the new band featuring former Babylon A.D. members, Ron Freschi, and Jamie Pacheo, as well as singer Jeffrey Winslow, and bassist Rich Talley. They are a great new band with a very good CD that is available now!. Check them out if you haven’t already at their website, Syrym.com. Congratulations to Syrym for winning Hard Rock Hideout’s 2008 Reader Awards, Best New Band of 2008, Gold Award!
Thanks to all of the fans who voted in this competition! Without your votes, this competition would not have been possible!
